Pregnancy 12 week + post IVF/infertility - general chat and support

Janefx40 · 09/07/2018 21:11

I thought I would start a thread for those of us pregnant post IVF/infertility. There are lots of pregnancy clubs on Mumsnet but it feels like a slightly different experience having got here the hard way!

I've put 12 weeks + because there is another group for women who have just got their BFPs. That is such an anxious time and definitely needs support.

But I thought this group might pick us up a little further along - over the first panic but still learning about the experience.

Not being exclusive tho - if you think this is the group for you, come along in...

So come and join us if you would like to xxx

beherenow I couldn’t lift my arm for 4 days and it swelled right around where she done it!! So sore. X

emalady · 10/10/2018 07:07

@liverpool19 sounds like you are pretty sorted.
I'm planning on breast feeding, if other people are planning on breastfeeding are they getting bottles etc to express or in case it doesn't work out?
@beherenow32 I had my whooping cough and flu jab at the same time. Was a bit sore but not too bad, felt a bit bruised but ok to work and went to the gym after.

emalady · 10/10/2018 07:10

@liverpool19 good luck today, they really should take it seriously. Might be worth a chat with PALS to complain about the previous treatment. Could be awful if you weren't strong enough to insist.

Liverpool19 · 10/10/2018 07:50

That’s my next step emalady going to get this sorted then will be onto PALS. I’ve had to get in touch with them before because of the awful experience I had with my laposcapory.

emalady · 10/10/2018 07:58

@liverpool19, that's rubbish you have had problems with the trust before. Hope you do manage to get things sorted. At least if you let someone know things might get better for others 🤞

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 08:29

@emalady I’m planning on breastfeeding. And have bought pump and bags (for storing milk) and also about 15 bottles.... I bought set of 6 (or 8) Tommee Tippee and then my work colleague said NUK is the best ever for colic so got set of them too... millions of muslins, breast pads etc.
However no idea about what I actually need! I will have one to one breastfeeding antenatal class next Thursday so I will update you then on what we actually need 😉
@liverpool19 good luck!!!!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 08:36

@liverpool19 when are you going on maternity leave?

beanhunter · 10/10/2018 08:41

For feeding you need lasinoah cream for your nips and breast pads. Personally I found the disposable pads really irritating and brought some bamboo ones from little lamb which were washable and dead easy. I also ended up needing shields as my small struggled to latch but that’s unusual. I would say the main thing is look into where your local bf group is and go as soon as you can. Get help. Feeding shouldn’t hurt and make sure you get your latch checked before you go home. After a very rocky start mine fed until 2 years!

Liverpool19 · 10/10/2018 09:31

23rd November fox due 1st December 😬 I don’t have any extra leave to take and don’t want to waste my mat leave as I’m only having 7 months off. So working right up until the end. Unless of course he is going to come early then I’ll change my dates. X

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 09:42

@Liverpool19 you are such a hero! 😊 that’s what I call being tough and resilient! I just couldn’t work any longer than I did...
Oh and when you enjoy your last day at work I will be celebrating my Birthday!
Once again- good luck today!!!!

emalady · 10/10/2018 11:27

@beanhunter I need to look for alternative to lanisinoh as I'm allergic to lanasin. Hoping vaseline will do the job!! I'm very tempted to get some washable breast pads and also maternity pads / sanitary towels as I'm getting a bit paranoid about the state of the world /environment. Not sure if I can cope with washable nappies though or if that's too much?!
I'm planning on working until basically due date too but will see how that goes for you ahead of me!!

beanhunter · 10/10/2018 11:43

I didn’t do reusable maternity pads but did do washable nappies from around 4 months. Actually once we got into a routine it was fine. Just washed every other night. Used disposables overnight though so wasn’t perfect! Will plan to use them earlier this time round.

Liverpool19 · 10/10/2018 13:41

So, I was basically told that I’m wasting everyone’s time and 4d scans mean nothing! However as I insisted he will send me for a growth scan as any other scan he requests will be rejected by them.
I will be induced at 39 weeks as I asked for it. So I will get a date for induction sometime in November!
X

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 14:07

@Liverpool19 ok, not ideal but it’s better than walking away empty handed, right? They will at least do growth scan and you will get a date soon as well. What are they saying regarding your placenta? Are they saying it’s not low?

Liverpool19 · 10/10/2018 14:41

They haven’t even looked at it fox!! As the scan was a private one then refuse to look at it. So I won’t find out until the growth scan. I feel like I have got somewere but not far enough yet. They have said basically a private scan means nothing and they won’t listen to anything that comes from it 😳
He was so rude aswell didn’t like him one bit.

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 18:19

@Liverpool19 I’m so sorry you had rubbish day... isn’t it crazy... there we are, instead of enjoying calm and stress less approach to delivery date, you have to deal with stubborn, rude and “up their own” medical staff.
But try to stay calm, stress is not a good idea for either of us.

Liverpool19 · 10/10/2018 18:35

I know fox I literally couldn’t believe his attitude towards me. Normally I’m not backwards in coming forward With what I need to say 🤣 but today I just kept my cool. I’m 100% complaining after this growth scan though. I’ve got to see him again in November, I’m already not looking forward to it. X

Janefx40 · 10/10/2018 20:22

@Liverpool19 that's awful. I can't believe that they were rude to you firstly. If they have a good reason not to scan (not that I can think of one) they should explain and be reassuring. And why would you ignore a private scan? Most private places are staffed by NHS staff anyway in their spare time so the quality should be the same.

Hopefully they will be able to see your placenta on the growth scan. Sorry they were eejits

emalady · 10/10/2018 21:12

@liverpool19 sounds absolutely ridiculous. I'm so sorry they were that rubbish. Were they saying that the 4d scan is inaccurate or just they don't believe anything private. I don't understand.

Beherenow32 · 10/10/2018 21:12

@Liverpool19 I hope they sort things out after this scan... and they can tell what needs to be the next step from it.

When did everyone start to feel movement? I’ve actually felt bubbles and little jabs for quite a few weeks now. But feeling it less over the last couple of days. Telling myself it’s still quite early and that it’s ok! (I’m just under 18 weeks). Think I will always worry about something! Xx

Fox23 · 10/10/2018 22:14

@Beherenow32 I didn’t feel any movement until about 21-22 weeks... scans confirmed all is ok, but it was the private gender scan that explained why I’m not feeling movements- I have antherior high placenta- so basically baby is touching placenta and it doesn’t reach my nerves. Only by week 22 she was strong enough to punch hard enough for me to feel.
If you started feeling movements over the last few weeks that sounds about right. Also at the beginning there is no pattern, but over the next month it will get stronger 😁😁😁

Janefx40 · 10/10/2018 23:03

@Beherenow32 I felt the occasional thing from about 16-17 weeks but I might feel a few flutters then nothing for a week.

Then a day before 21 weeks I suddenly felt consistent movement and texted DP saying "she's moving". I've felt her every day since. It's becoming more regular although I still have some days when she is crazy busy and others more quiet. The midwife said it won't settle into a clear pattern until 28 weeks.

Then around 24 weeks I started being able to see it too!

I think you are well on track xxx

OP posts:
Beherenow32 · 11/10/2018 07:40

Thank you for the reassurance! I did think it would be ok. For now, I’ll just enjoy the wee flutters for now! X

Liverpool19 · 11/10/2018 08:58

jane I know, I couldn’t believe it. He was so dismissive of it like I was stupid for paying for one.
emalady he said paying for a private scan means nothing to the NHS if they find something on the private scan and don’t provide notes.
beherenow I felt movement about 18 weeks like a swimming feeling in my belly, this wasn’t constant but I felt it every now and again. I didn’t actually feel kicks until about 26/27 weeks.

emalady · 11/10/2018 13:31

@liverpool19 I guess I understand the issue if there is nothing written / no notes. I just struggle to accept if you have undiagnosed placenta previa why they would be willing to risk a natural labor without rechecking. But I don't work in obstetrics.
I'm reassured you didn't feel proper kicks yet. The due February group seems to have loads of people who are already feeling kicks and seeing movement from the outside. I'm definitely in the occasional flutters stage still.
