Pregnancy 12 week + post IVF/infertility - general chat and support

Janefx40 · 09/07/2018 21:11

I thought I would start a thread for those of us pregnant post IVF/infertility. There are lots of pregnancy clubs on Mumsnet but it feels like a slightly different experience having got here the hard way!

I've put 12 weeks + because there is another group for women who have just got their BFPs. That is such an anxious time and definitely needs support.

But I thought this group might pick us up a little further along - over the first panic but still learning about the experience.

Not being exclusive tho - if you think this is the group for you, come along in...

So come and join us if you would like to xxx

@swimchick1980 omg!! Thank you sooooo much!!! I cried myself laughing!!! It’s just so funny! Probably the funniest was when me too only few weeks ago realised that it’s 10, not 9 months 😂
Oh and the gap judging... I keep getting stuck between car mirrors in car parks 😂😂😂😂
And yes! I can’t dress myself properly anymore.., I asked my DH to help me with socks, shoes and even... cutting my toenails😳
Yep, this article is the best! I’m still crying (from laughter)- thank you @swimchick1980

swimchick1980 · 23/08/2018 21:10

Thought you would like it @Fox23. Socks are a no go, otherwise I have to try and hook them onto my feet from afar 😂.

Liverpool19 · 24/08/2018 07:41

Hahah this made me laugh. I’m lucky I can still dress myself (for now)

Was with the midwife yesterday for my 25 week check even though I am 25+6. Everything is fine, he gave her a kick when she was checking his heart 😂 I asked about being induced as it’s an IVF pregnancy she’s happy to refer me at my 28 week check. I’m happy about this as I’ve been really stressing out about going over!

Hope everyone is well. X

swimchick1980 · 24/08/2018 08:29

That’s good news Liverpool. I was told at my booking in appointment that they don’t let IVF pregnancies go over so I will be booked in for an induction the week before due date. I was late with DC1 so I suspect i will be induced, though every pregnancy is different I guess. Got my socks on this morning, woohoo 😂😂

Liverpool19 · 24/08/2018 09:02

Yes I’m hoping for the week before also swimchick nice to have a date. We’ve decided not to tell anyone what date I will be going in and just go as certain people (mother in law) is saying she is going to wait in the waiting room through the whole labour. I told her she isn’t allowed in the hospital until I ring her. It’s just me and my boyfriend at the birth. It’s not a circus 😂 x

swimchick1980 · 24/08/2018 09:09

Are you kidding?? That sounds horrendous. Definitely just the two of you. I didn’t tell anyone until DC1 arrived either. My MIL, who is an awful woman and who we handed seen for months and months, turned up uninvited at the hospital. That won’t happen this time!! I’m sure your MIL is much nicer, but you don’t need the stress of knowing she is waiting outside, flipping heck!!

Liverpool19 · 24/08/2018 09:38

She’s lovely swim but really interfering sometimes and I’ve had enough. I’m not even having my mum there so she will certainly not be coming. She moaned about not being asked to come my 20 week scan when I told her your only allowed yourself and 1 person. So I just didn’t tell her when it was. She’s got a daughter of her own who’s had two kids and she’s been there through both labours. She doesn’t need to be included in mine. Oh I could go on and on 😂😂 x

DameSylvieKrin · 24/08/2018 11:30

@marthame It might be because of the low carb diet that you have it. My wife and I, pre babies, never ate carbs after lunch to avoid feeling sluggish in the evening, and we both got diabetes. I've heard the same from others.
I'm on insulin at night now and it's giving me near daily migraines. It's horrendous.
However, I might have the baby on Tuesday (32w) and will definitely have him in the next four weeks so I can put up with it.

swimchick1980 · 24/08/2018 13:24

I didn’t have my Mum there either......I don’t know anyone who did.....Each to their own I guess

Liverpool19 · 24/08/2018 13:39

All my friends did swim but I just think we’ve been through so much to get to this point I just want us two and then we get a couple of hours on our own afterwards (excluding the nurses) 😂

Fox23 · 24/08/2018 14:02

I agree. My MIL said that she will definitely be there... I said “no, you definitely will not!” I feel the same as you- it’s a private moment and not a circus, and it’s for me, my DH and the new baby to bond.... everybody else can wait until later.
Had my 4D scan yesterday and my little daughter decided that this time she block her face with both hands and FEET!!!! We literally only got three pictures... kids! Right?

Liverpool19 · 24/08/2018 16:45

fox that’s funny she is determined that she’s not to be seen before the day! I’m glad you’ve said that about your MIL I thought I was just going mad!! I said I hope he arrives either really late at night or really early as visiting isn’t allowed until 3pm 🤣

swimchick1980 · 24/08/2018 18:39

Totally agree - none of us have had an easy ride to get here so those moments will be so precious. DC1 was born in the early hours and we were in the delivery room ourselves for a couple of hours after the birth, which was lovely, before heading onto the ward.

Fox, oh dear, get used to her not doing what you want 😂😂. She’s clearly already got her own personality, such exciting times ahead.

hailseitan · 25/08/2018 20:41

Hey all. I've not posted for ages (been having a stressful time with family)

Just curious... is anyone else planning a home birth?

Liverpool19 · 25/08/2018 21:10

Hi hailseitan hope your ok.

No I’m probably going to be induced so will be in hospital. X

Fox23 · 26/08/2018 06:27

@hailseitan hope u ok 🌷
Me neither. I’m hoping for elective c section.

swimchick1980 · 26/08/2018 10:04

Same as Liverpool for me - they don’t let IVF pregnancies go over so i’ll probably need to be induced in the week before my due date.

I had a water birth with DC1 and found it very relaxing, so would be keen for that again but not sure it will be a possibility if I am induced.

hailseitan · 26/08/2018 10:31

@swimchick1980 omg... you HAVE to be induced with an IVF pregnancy??? I had no idea! Is it absolutely compulsory because I 1000% don't want it. I was kind of hoping for no medical intervention and a nice water birth at home Confused damn it!!!

swimchick1980 · 26/08/2018 11:07

I don’t think you have to be but where I am they won’t let you go over your due date. I was a week late with DC1. If you haven’t gone into labour naturally they induce you in the week before due date. It might not be the same where you are - they told me that at my booking in appointment (I didn’t know they did it before then). Their theory is the placenta works best in the 40 week gestation period.

Fox23 · 26/08/2018 13:13

Yes, some with me. During my 20 week appointment I was told that with IVF pregnancy, I will not go even one day over my due date.

swimchick1980 · 26/08/2018 16:23

@Fox23, have you got your c section sorted? Will they do in at week 38? Not too long now......

hailseitan · 26/08/2018 16:26

@swimchick1980 @Fox23 My 20 week is on the 7th so I guess I'll find out then. Gulp!!

swimchick1980 · 26/08/2018 16:42

Hope all goes well at the scan and that you can chat through your options then if there is a similar policy. It’s definitely good to have a plan (and hopefully it will pan out that way) but I would say be as open minded as possible as things don’t always go to plan! One of my friends had planned a home birth but wasn’t able to in the end.

Liverpool19 · 26/08/2018 17:16

You can also speak to your midwife hailseitan that’s who I spoke to. I literally haven’t made any plans yet with regards to the birth I’m just going to go with the flow on the day! From what I have heard they offer a sweep first, but I will have a fixed date. So if the sweep doesn’t work I’ll go in on the day to be induced. 14 weeks (possibly 13) left 😳😳 x
