Pregnancy 12 week + post IVF/infertility - general chat and support

Janefx40 · 09/07/2018 21:11

I thought I would start a thread for those of us pregnant post IVF/infertility. There are lots of pregnancy clubs on Mumsnet but it feels like a slightly different experience having got here the hard way!

I've put 12 weeks + because there is another group for women who have just got their BFPs. That is such an anxious time and definitely needs support.

But I thought this group might pick us up a little further along - over the first panic but still learning about the experience.

Not being exclusive tho - if you think this is the group for you, come along in...

So come and join us if you would like to xxx

I do have a massive bruise where it went in and I still feel like I have a dead arm 😂. I am so clumsy and can’t remember anything (including my PIN number!)

MarthaMe · 05/08/2018 12:51

@Liverpool19 A pregnancy pillow was the first thing I bought when I was 5 weeks! I don't think I'll ever get rid now 😀

So I'm just 16 weeks and having a wobble today. My boobs have stopped hurting, my belly looks smaller and I haven't felt any flutters for a couple of days (been feeling slight flutters since about 12 weeks). Wish I could stop feeling anxious. It's times like these i wish I had got myself a Doppler just for a bit of reassurance.

Janefx40 · 05/08/2018 13:00

Hi @MarthaMe it is hard not to worry. I think my belly has either got smaller or certainly not got much bigger. I think this is the progesterone tailing off from meds so maybe you are the same. But my boobs have grown and shrunk throughout the pregnancy. At one point around 13-14 weeks they were pretty much back to normal size. Yesterday they were giant, today medium.

Things definitely fluctuate. But I had a scan at 15 weeks so I know things were still fine following all these changes.

Hopefully all will be well with you too. If you are still worrying and can afford it, go for a reassurance scan?

X

Thanks for the reassurance @Janefx40. I feel really emotional today, not sure why - must be the hormones!
I did have a midwife appointment on Wednesday and she listened to the heartbeat and said it sounded lovely & strong. And I've got my 16 week scan on Thursday when I'll be 16+4. Never thought I'd worry as much as I'm doing!

Liverpool19 · 05/08/2018 13:50

martha your symptoms come and go. I’m 23 weeks and someone asked me the other day if I am really pregnant 😂 your pregnancy “bloat” does go down from 16 and from 12 weeks my boobs didn’t hurt at all! Don’t stress

Barcelo18 · 05/08/2018 15:15

I think we all worry that little bit more for up how hard it’s been for us all to get this far. I’ve had a uti this week and ended up bleeding a little and the maternity assessment unit asked for me to go in to check me over. They think the bleeding is down to the uti and I’m on antibiotics for it which have then given me thrush 🙈. They checked heartbeat of baby etc and all was fine. We had had our 20 week scan the previous day and found out that we are expecting a gorgeous little boy. Note to anyone who hasn’t had this yet make sure you eat something sweet prior to going. Initially he wouldn’t move so they sent me off and told me to go get something sweet so had a pain au chocolat and a fresh orange juice and when we came back he was doing somersaults. I’m now studying the foods I can and can’t eat as we are going to Italy for a week tomorrow, looks like I’ll be having to watch the husband eating all of my favourites but it will all hopefully be worth it in the end.

Janefx40 · 06/08/2018 14:40

Thanks for the tip @Barcelo18 I don't need much persuading to eat a pain au chocolat!!

I feel crapola. Just so tired although I know I should be grateful that my headache and nausea have gone. But I feel so drained, I can hardly move.

Have the day off today and instead of enjoying it, I feel like I can hardly move around the house, let alone go out to do something fun. Sorry for the whinge!!

How are you all?

OP posts:
Fox23 · 06/08/2018 16:02

@Janefx40 it must be so frustrating to have a day off just to feel drained. I can totally understand what you are saying and I do blame the weather. I spent Saturday and Sunday more or less asleep. So out of energy that I was struggling to even get myself cup of decaf.
Today I went to work, then had blood test (fasting one, so I had two tests with two hour waiting in between). Got home about 1.... been asleep ever since, with the must horrendous headaches ever!
So @Janefx40 please don’t think you are whinging, we all sometimes feel rubbish 😁💐

Liverpool19 · 06/08/2018 17:25

Awful. Work sent me home at 9am in a taxi. I’ve been in since 8! Feel like I can vomit at anytime and everytime I wake up I sweating! I know I should be eating but I’ve had an ice cream and water!

MarthaMe · 06/08/2018 19:32

Aw sorry you aren't feeling well @Janefx40 & @Liverpool19 sounds awful. I don't think this heat is helping. Its typical, I love the hot weather and have wished for a summer like this since forever - the only time it finally arrives is the only year I'm pregnant and can't lap it up!! 😂

Is anyone else on clexane injections? My tummy is so sore, bruised & swollen I'm struggling to find a space that isn't sore. Just wondering if I can switch to my thigh if anyone knows? If not I'll ask at my next appointment..

Fox23 · 06/08/2018 19:42

@Liverpool19 oh darling, I hope you feel better soon! Try to drink as much water as possible. Yesterday I felt sick all day too. Then I decided to watch tv show about pathology... yes, that didn’t work exactly work well with my stomach. I then thought better of it and went to sleep. You off tomorrow as well?

Liverpool19 · 06/08/2018 20:35

It’s not even that hot in Liverpool! So I think it might be a little bug 🤦🏼‍♀️ Yes am staying off tomorrow am just really drained so have been drinking lots of water! Sorry martha I’m not on any injections. Maybe call the clinic they will be able to help. Saves you waiting for your appointment. X

Janefx40 · 07/08/2018 07:52

Thanks folks. @Liverpool19 hope you are feeling better today. That sounds dreadful and, as you say, like a bug of some kind.

If it's not that hot in Liverpool I'm tempted to make a trip! It's unbearable down south!

@Fox23 and you feel sick too? I think you are right and the heat is playing a big part.

@MarthaMe I took Clexane with my first cycle. I found that if I twisted the needle slightly as I injected it was less painful and bruised less. Like they do when you have acupuncture. Also, I expect you already know this, but with Clexane you can inject all the way round to your sides as long as you don't pass the mid-line and end up round the back. That is the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid. I think speaking to the clinic is the best way

Trouble is I don't have much tummy fat so if I go further round then it Bloomin hurts! My thighs have more chunk to them so I'm going they say I can start jabbing there 😂 I'll give them a ring.

When did you all start feeling movements? I'm 16+2 and since around 12 weeks I've felt like a tickling sensation really low down in the middle, I've had this probably once a day ever since. It's not really changed so I'm wondering if it's movements or not. Anyone else?

Fox23 · 07/08/2018 18:53

@MarthaMe I can’t help with injections as I didn’t have to have them. But regarding movements... like most with antherior placenta the feeling of movement is massively reduced. By week 20 there was still nothing. Week 22 just as England was about to kick off in World Cup she kicked me! I suppose she loves (or hates) football ⚽️

Liverpool19 · 07/08/2018 19:35

I’m feeling much better thank you jane martha I didn’t feel nothing until about 17/18 weeks. Last night though my belly was actually moving up and down 😂 and I’m 23+3. My placenta is on my left side. So I either had a lazy baby or he is small so I couldn’t really feel anything x

MarthaMe · 07/08/2018 19:47

It must feel amazing when you do get those kicks / movements @Liverpool19 & @Fox23
I can't wait!! X

Liverpool19 · 08/08/2018 08:52

martha it’s a very strange feeling I still can’t get used to it 😂 he kicked me that hard last night I jumped 😂 x

Fox23 · 09/08/2018 18:22

Afternoon girls,
How are you all doing? I’m so glad it’s finally raining in London! Last night I had the best sleep in ages! It was delicious!!! My little girl has decided she LOVES kickboxing! Seriously, it feels like she is kicking me and punching me just for fun. And when my DH excitedly puts his hand on my belly.... she stops! I think I can hear her giggle. Of course the hand comes off and kick lands right in my ribs... or bladder... or kidneys... it actually is so much fun.
On Tuesday we have the next big milestone- 28 Week obstetrics, then ultra sound and then we may treat ourselves with 3D scan 😆

Janefx40 · 09/08/2018 19:07

Hiya. I'm fine. So relieved my headaches have passed. Had a midwife appt today which felt like a bit of a waste of time. She didn't really do anything except check I had relevant appts etc. Although they did test my urine which is finally free of infection! Yay! Possibly why my headaches have gone

Saw my niece and nephew which was lovely. They were super excited and asking loads of questions.

Sorry about all the kicking @Fox23 although as you say it is nice too!! Still waiting for my first movement.

Hope the rest of you ladies are well

MarthaMe · 09/08/2018 19:10

@Fox23 Sounds just wonderful to feel her kicking. I bet it's a gorgeous feeling.

I had my 16 week scan today and baby is measuring perfectly. After the scan I was lead into another room which instantly set the fear of god into me. Turns out I've tested 'slightly' low for PAPP-A. The midwife said to not worry and that all it means is that later in pregnancy the baby could be slow to grow so they will scan me every 4 weeks to monitor the growth. She said that 90% of ladies carry to term in my position but 10% May have to be induced early.
Since getting home I've been googling she frightened myself though. I'm a worrier by nature but I really need to stay away from google!!!

Fox23 · 09/08/2018 20:00

@Janefx40 so happy to hear your headaches are gone!!!! That’s fantastic! I also find midwife appointments a bit... blaahhh - quite pointless, except for when she listens to baby’s heart.
It must have been great to see your family 😊
@MarthaMe 16 weeks! That’s great! And yes, doctor Google is the worst! Seriously it never has a kind word! Relax as even the worst case scenario according to doctors is actually good scenario, right?

DameSylvieKrin · 09/08/2018 20:14

@marthame That sounds like what I felt at 14w, a very indefinite feeling but definitely like there was some sort of motion when I wasn't moving at all. The feeling got stronger with time and I'm sure it was movement I felt then.
29w now and you can see the kicks from outside, with clothes on.
Anyone else with diabetes? I thought I'd escaped as I passed the test by 1 point but it turns out I haven't. Will have to start insulin on Monday.

Fox23 · 09/08/2018 20:25

@DameSylvieKrin I’m getting my diabetes results next week... who knows, but we always prepare for worst just in case. Will let you know on Tuesday....

Fox23 · 10/08/2018 17:32

Yeyyy, Just booked my 3D scan! Tuesday wasn’t available that would have been perfect after seeing obstetrician and having my ultrasound. But they had this Sunday available- can wait to see my little girl!!!!
