Hello... I have posted here before but have been way to nervous to be too 'involved' before now... I am now 19 weeks (tomorrow) and starting to really believe we might be actually having a baby! Still have to get through 20 week scan in 2 weeks but after that I am going SHOPPING!! I have made loads of lists so know what I want to buy, now just a case of buying it! @chickita04 I am going to buy a chair for nursery but a regular nice slouchy armchair, not a special nursing chair. You will NOT use it and they are really expensive! A regular chair looks much nicer and will last you either for stories and some feeding no doubt but just general use and can always be recovered and used in other parts of your house in later years if you want. Same thing for changing tables. The ones with built in changing units only have that use - buy a regular chest of drawers and create a changing area on top with changing mat etc. It will last you much longer!

Went to pick up a Sleepyhead today - I think the dog thinks it’s for her!

SuperVeggie · 14/08/2018 13:09

Hi again everyone, wow this thread moves quite quickly! I'm just checking back in after a weird and nervy weekend where I started having what I'm hoping are very early braxton hicks, but obviously I panicked and phoned the midwifes and they sent me for an emergency scan yesterday to see if my cervix was shortening. Thank God at the moment it looks to be ok (37mm which they said was normal) but I have another scan in 2 weeks. It's all so stressful, I just want to enjoy being pregnant!

I have lost track a little bit of who everyone is and where they are, so I thought maybe we could all post a little update if others are up for it too? Doesn't have to be too personal! I'll go first:

I'm currently 16+2 with first baby, my official EDD is 27th Jan but I already know I will be delivering at 38 weeks either by induction or planned section so it will be around the 12th Jan I think. I'm under consultant led care. DH and I are both 30, we live in the south east for work so neither of us have any family particularly close by which I'm a bit nervous about. (After seeing the dog chat I'd like to add that I don't currently have one but was hoping that mat leave would be my opportunity to change that if I can convince my DH to let us get one!)

FuckMyUterus · 14/08/2018 13:14

Glad all is okay superveggie
I'm 15+5 with 2nd baby (have suffered multiple miscarriages though) my EDD is 31st January.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 14/08/2018 13:18

I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow, and since the booking appointment, I've gained 1 kg. Since my last period I've gained around 4 kg. I ate like a horse in the first few months. I didn't have a whole lot of morning sickness, and when I did, eating helped.

We have a 7 year old cocker spaniel (not working dog), and I'm not too worried about her - she's pretty well-behaved and doesn't bark. My only worry is that she will feel forgotten in some way - she's a sensitive little dog.
She will never be left alone with a child - more for her safety than the child's.

Regarding nursery, I think we'll try to keep it simple and affordable. I have a nice chair in the living room which is taking up too much space, but I don't know if it will nice to feed in as it is very low and has wide wooden armrests.
I've always wanted a nice rocking chair for a nursery, but I'm not sure they are as practical as I hope they will be.

We haven't bought anything yet - we're waiting until after the 20 week scan. Then we'll start with the pram and accessories, as well as car seat.
I think we'll get most of the nursery furniture from Ikea, but I am considering looking at nicer mattresses for the cot from somewhere else. I don't really want to get a whole lot of stuff as we'll either move or redecorate when the baby gets a bit older. We'll just keep the white walls and put some art up, I think.

We've started emptying the spare bedroom so we can turn it into the nursery. There is so much work to do - as there's a large sofabed that we want to move to a large room downstairs so we can turn that into another living room/office space.
This requires other rooms to be moved around - my little craft/sewing room will have to be moved around a bit (it has also been a spare bedroom, but the bed will have to go), and I also don't know where to put my makeup, bags and jewellery.
My DH wants to empty the loft as well - just to make it easier in the future.
We are hoping to get it done soon, as I worry that I will not be able to help much with carrying stuff around later on.

I've also started driving - I've had a license for years, but since moving to the UK, I've not been massively keen on driving. But we got a new car and I must admit that I'm enjoying driving again - but the car is significantly larger than what I've driven before and the UK roads are more narrow than the roads I used to drive on.
I'm taking it easy as I feel like there is a massive difference in how people drive abroad and how they drive here.

SophieStripe · 14/08/2018 14:02

I'm 19 weeks tomorrow due 10th Jan with first baby. We aren't finding out gender. Have anomaly scan in 3 weeks after which we will start buying things! Very excited to get pram, car seat and bed.

GinGeum · 14/08/2018 14:20

Hope you’re okay Veggie

I’m 19 weeks today with first baby, 20 week scan is a week today. We will find out the sex if we can. Due 8th Jan, hopefully aiming for a home birth but trying to keep an open mind. We were hoping to wait till after scan to start buying, but I’ve seen a few second hand bargains which seemed silly to pass up. Only have cot, Moses basket, Sleepyhead and cloth nappies though.
Time seems to be flying by which is making me a bit panicky, because we need to build a bathroom from scratch in one room, turn current shower room into a laundry room, do some knocking down of walls in kitchen, and somehow flatten some of the garden to build a better driveway. On top of harvest, then drilling, so not likely to quieten down on the farm till November which doesn’t leave us long to get all the work done.

Buttercup53 · 14/08/2018 14:24

Thanks to everyone who’s sent me information about their weight, I appreciate it a lot. Someone else at work is pregnant and they were going on about how much they don’t want to gain too much weight and I just wanted to tell them to shut up but I didn’t.

So my reintroduction: I’m 19 weeks and due 4th January, this is my first pregnancy. I developed severe antenatal anxiety in the first trimester (which I didn’t even know was a thing, only ever heard of post natal depression) so I’m under the care of a mental health team now, though am doing much better now than I was!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 14/08/2018 16:26

My introduction (I don't think I ever did one to begin with):
I'm 18+6, due 9th January, with my first.
20 week scan is on the 23rd August, and we will be finding out the sex if it is possible to tell.

I've reserved a pram and have decided which car seat we'll be getting, but have not actually bought anything yet.

We will be going to Denmark in a few weeks on holiday and I'll be bringing the pram back then - it's a bit early, but I don't think we'll be going back later in the year in the car, and I don't want to risk having to have the pram shipped over.

The reason why I'm getting a pram from there is because we have a different tradition regarding having midday naps in the pram until children are around 3 years old, so prams have to be a bit bigger. I really like this idea, and whenever I have talked to Danish friends and family, they have recommended this.
Apparently Denmark is the only country that actually does this, so it is not easy finding a suitable pram in other countries.

I'm 35, so I may be one of the oldest in this thread.

SophieStripe · 14/08/2018 16:40

Nope... I'm also 35! (well, in November Grin so technically 34 but wanted to give you some company!)

sexnotgender · 14/08/2018 17:49

I’m 36Smile

sexnotgender · 14/08/2018 18:01

I’m 17+3 with my second but first is 14.5Confused
Not buying nursing chair or anything like that, we have a second living room upstairs that has the comfiest sofa in it so will probably use that or stay in bed.

Time is really flying! We moved house about a month ago and place is still a little bit upside down, trying to make inroads so that when baby is here the house is sorted.

Spent £1400 on curtains at the weekend Shock and they won’t be here for about 8 weeks so super excited to hang 6 pairs of curtains at 25 weeks pregnant!

cryptonaut · 14/08/2018 18:07

My reintroduction: I'm 17+6, due 16th Jan with first baby. 29 years old. Live in South East, work from home but travel is involved, often at short notice. I was lucky to get away without morning sickness, just some nausea that went away with eating something, but have been completely exhausted for about 2 months. Getting quite a big bump already and hoping it's not indicative of baby size! I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression a couple of years ago but was taken off the tablets upon finding out about the baby, which has been quite hard at times. Reading up on pregnancy and buying things has helped feel prepared and keep the anxiety at bay. 20week scan is on 30th so keeping fingers crossed everything will be ok, hoping to find out sex too.

Buttercup53 · 14/08/2018 18:21

I’m 27 - please can someone jump in and tell me I’m not the youngest?! Fatigue has by far been my most consistent symptom all the way through, it’s never improved even when the sickness ebbed away.

Quirkycutekitch2011 · 14/08/2018 19:08

I’m 37 😳

Can someone explain the sleepyhead thing to me please? Do you buy extra covers for it or put a sheet on it? Does it go in a cot?

doleritedinosaur · 14/08/2018 19:23

Hello all I’ve not posted as I’ve been struggling a bit with unplanned pregnancy, bleed & nausea & exhaustion.

I’m 16 weeks with EDD of 28th Jan from dating scan as ovulated late but this is third pregnancy & never really make it past 38 weeks.

I’ve had several MC & trying for my second was very hard so this surprise pregnancy is a bit hard to cope with.

Baby moves a lot & has done for weeks now, especially at 4am.

Buying wise nothing & got rid of a lot once second DC was done with them. But still have car seat, slings & im looking at a sleepyhead for downstairs.
We might be moving so can’t buy too much & friends are offering a lot of clothes.

With poster who asked about weight I’m actually trying to lose/maintain as bmi is higher than it should be so I’m exercising, doing yoga & “trying” to eat healthy but bump loves fruit pastilles. Actually lost 2kg so far but 1kg was down to a stomach bug & struggling to eat afterwards.

Going to read through more posts now but is anyone else doing hypnobirthing?

sexnotgender · 14/08/2018 19:32

I’m planning to try hypnobirthing! Welcome to the thread, sorry to hear you’re struggling.

SophieStripe · 14/08/2018 19:45

Yes I am going to do a hypnobirthing course. Everyone I know who has had a baby in the past year has said it hugely helped

Curlypop · 14/08/2018 20:14

Yes I'm going to do a hypnobirthing course too.
Anyone else not 100% sure they have felt baby? I'm 17+5

Noodles14 · 14/08/2018 20:25

I'm 19w4d (20 week scan on Monday- yay!). I'm not sure if I've felt any movements yet- a few sort of bubbles and pops but unsure if it's just my tummy rumbling/gas! 😳.
First baby, 34 and definitely going to try hypnobirthing. Am starting a pregnancy yoga class this week and am also hoping to do some aqua natal. Also have a 18 month old cocker spaniel so was reading the doggie posts with great interest!

Kate123cl · 14/08/2018 20:43

@Buttercup53 Not the youngest! I'm 19, will be 20Grin

jadem1990 · 14/08/2018 20:54

Just turned 28 @buttercup53! Not too far away from you. We havent bought anything yet as we are awaiting our 20 week scan on the 30th.

I've been so tired but it seems to have eased in the second trimester. I'm exercising regularly but on a far lesser scale than my previous training.

Not sure if I've put on any weight other than baby but I don't have much of a bump at 18 weeks which is certainly worrying. Looking forward to hopefully hearing everything is ok in the 20 week scan.

cryptonaut · 14/08/2018 21:13

@jadem1990 there's a girl in a class I'm doing who said she didn't show at all until 25 weeks, she's now 32 weeks and has the same size bump as some of the others on their mid/late 20s. Everyone's different.

blorgzorb · 14/08/2018 21:15

I'm 35 but will be 36 when mine is born. Currently 19+5 and haven't felt a thing! First baby and an anterior placenta so I'm not too worried. Would be nice though!

doleritedinosaur · 14/08/2018 21:26

Forgot to say I’m 32!

I’m so glad others are doing hypnobirthing. I did it for my second & it helped so much as I had a home birth.

I don’t do the courses but I read Sophie Fletcher’s Hypbobirthing & am trying the music this time around. Also reading Active Birth & found out all the yoga I did last time was half the book.

It really helps the focus, I had an awful on my back, arguing with consultants birth with DS1 so DS2’s birth was so much easier.

The yoga definitely helps stop the rib & back pain.

Thanks @sexnotgender I’m trying to focus on the postives although 3 under 4 is utterly terrifying to me at the moment.
