Aww it's great to hear some of you feeling movement.

I've noticed even more cervical mucus the past couple of days has anyone else?

Buttercup53 · 07/08/2018 17:08

@jennac it was quite gentle so not obvious in a 'oh god what's happening in my stomach' way, but it was clearly not, well, gas. It's quite a distinct feeling, like being gently flicked/tapped from the inside. It's hard to describe, I don't necessarily agree with other people who have said it felt like a fish or a butterfly, it definitely felt like a (tiny) kick, and when you feel it, you'll know what it is because it's unlike anything else. I know it's hard but try not to worry, I'm 18w4d and that's really early to be feeling something, and it's not regular/frequent at all. If you don't feel anything over the next 2/3 weeks, then raise it with your midwife, but I'm absolutely certain you'll feel it soon :) and it's a lovely surprise!

sexnotgender · 07/08/2018 17:11

Agree it’s now like being flicked from the inside. Was more like tickling last week though.

cryptonaut · 07/08/2018 21:07

I've only felt one movement last week, at 16+1, for me it was like a gentle roll or slither. At first I was like "wtf was that" as I was expecting a gassy type feeling after reading up on it. The only explanation in movement :) can't wait for more and for it to be strong enough for DH to feel it too!

chickita04 · 08/08/2018 07:16

Hey lonely ladies,

I'm not sure if I've felt things this week.. i think so but can't be sure! It's so quick so don't have time to really register if it's baby or just my insides! 😂

Has anyone bought much yet?

X

chickita04 · 08/08/2018 07:16

Lovely*!!!!

GinGeum · 08/08/2018 07:49

I haven’t bought much but have been keeping an eye on second hand sites, so have picked up a few bits when I’ve seen something we need. So far that is just a Moses basket and some cloth nappies! Will be happier buying more after the 20 week scan in a fortnight I think.

purplesmiler · 08/08/2018 07:54

I haven't bought much but have looked lots. Waiting until after the 20 week scan for most things.

eilidh1986 · 08/08/2018 08:09

We got our pram but only because John Lewis had it reduced! It's in the garage as felt a bit superstitious about bringing it into the house!

Fancy the Chico next to me crib as heard great things about it. Loads of folk rave about the 'Sleepyhead' but not sure how it would work if you were going for the next to me crib!

There is just so much choice, don't know how many times my mum has told me they didn't have any of this in her day, lol! Xx

chickita04 · 08/08/2018 08:33

I've got buggy and car seat but it's all at my parents house. I also bought a Moses basket at the weekend but again it's all going to my mums!! My mum has been buying but we haven't actually bought anything else yet. I'm self employed so want to get big things while I'm still working full time. Found the cot just not ordered it yet. I think after that that most of the expensive things you need? Properly not tho as everything is so expensive! And there's so much choice. I really don't want to end up with things I just won't use. I'd really only like to get essentials. Partly because I hate clutter and having lots in the house that's not used and partly because I just think some of it is all fad bits you think you need??

GinGeum · 08/08/2018 08:43

There is definitely a lot of faddy things that just aren’t necessary (especially if you’re trying not to spend loads like us!)

I need to get a cot but not sure about a Sleepyhead to go in it. We are having the cot in our room to begin with and keeping Moses basket for day time naps downstairs, but not sure if swaddling alone will make baby feel secure enough in a big cot. Just wait and see I suppose.

And then other than car seat, we haven’t got any big purchases to get (apart from a pushchair when a bit older). I am getting a built in cupboard made in the nursery though.

I’m not getting a changing table or anything like that, so other than clothes, I think that’s mostly it?

Our biggest thing is getting the building work done on our house. We haven’t even started yet so not sure it’s going to be done in time!

chickita04 · 08/08/2018 09:40

Yeah I agree.
I've looked at sleepy head but again is it necessary? I know someone mentioned their mum saying "we didn't have this in our day". However that's kind of been my mantra on a lot of things during my pregnancy... if my mum/Nonna did/didn't do it then I'm sure I'll be fine! A lot of it is unnecessary and we'll probably not even end up using a lot of the stuff.
I'm thinking about getting the tommy tippe perfect prep thing I feel like that will be 3am easier if I can't breastfeed or when I eventually stop feeding!
Other bits a bobs like bottles nipple things I haven't even behind to look into yet.

Also anyone else thinking about home birth?

eilidh1986 · 08/08/2018 09:55

The perfect prep machine is meant to be amazing! My friend has it & says it's a life saver! I guess it's all balance & finding things that really do help & other stuff that is just a faded!

We found out early that we are having a boy which is dangerous territory for me as just want to buy everything blue that I see!! X

sexnotgender · 08/08/2018 10:04

Only bought the pram so far. If I see any other great bargains I’ll buy them though. It’s nice to spread the cost a bit.

GinGeum · 08/08/2018 10:33

For anyone looking for work Maternity Trousers, I got a pair from ASDA. £8 and they're so comfy and look really smart, bit big just now but think i'll be living in them until January! I have a party at the weekend so was trying on clothes to see what i could wear, didn't realise how much my body has changed already.
I haven't bought anything so far, going to wait until after 20 week scan. Chickita04 same here, i really don't want to buy a load of things that aren't necessary.

Merrz · 08/08/2018 13:22

OMG GinGeum that's scary haha! Is that for re-usable nappies? I haven't even heard of some of those items.

GinGeum · 08/08/2018 13:59

I got some maternity leggings from Asda actually and they’re really nice too!
Yes that’s for reusable nappies, the equipment list also seems a lot longer than it did in my mind!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 08/08/2018 15:03

I'm planning on breastfeeding, but I know that it doesn't always work out - is is necessary to buy bottles and so on as a backup?

Also, the shop I am buying my pram from have confirmed that they can get it for me for September as I'll be driving back to Denmark for holiday. It will be after the 20 week scan.
I think I'll take my mum with me to buy it - I think she'll like that. She certainly looked excited when we had a look at prams a few weeks ago.
I don't know if we're having a boy or girl, but I've ordered a navy blue one as I thought it was nicer than plain black and grey, and I don't know if a lighter colour will stay nice for long.

I have bought absolutely nothing so far, and I frankly wouldn't even know where to begin. I do have a catalogue from a store with their suggested shopping lists - and it's terrifying.

I have however told my mum she is welcome to start knitting whatever she'd like in neutral colours as she's super excited. After the 20 week scan, she'll probably get a bit more creative with colours :)

Gap actually do really nice maternity shorts and jeans, but they only have skinny jeans. I have a pair with the elastic inset, and I find them very comfortable. I got some shorts as well, and they've been great during the hot weather. They tend to always have an offer or sale on, so that makes them quite affordable.
Seraphine's jeans are great too, and on sale, they are reasonably priced. I have two pairs with the underbump band, and I'm so far very happy with them. They have a better selection than Gap - other colours, straight leg and boyfriend styles

Thamantha · 08/08/2018 16:34

@GinGeum
I had to google bimbles and bumbles :) Would you be willing to share your thoughts on using re-useable nappies? I am considering it, but i am not sure whether i would manage it.

sexnotgender · 08/08/2018 16:40

I’m planning on using reusables and breastfeeding, will see if either actually work out!!

GinGeum · 08/08/2018 18:05

Also planning to breastfeed here, but I’m going to stock up on some bottles just in case. I don’t want DH doing a mad dash to the 24 hour Tesco for them if things don’t work out to plan! I’m also hoping it will be like when you take an umbrella in your handbag, it never rains, but the moment you’re unprepared without one, you get caught in a thunder storm. If I have bottles, they probably won’t get used, but if I don’t, I’ll probably desperately need them Grin

The whole reusable nappy thing is really personal preference. I love them, I find they contain pre-weaning poos much much better than disposables, and I think are just nicer against baby’s skin. And also the environmental and financial impact as well. They are bulkier which can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you soon adjust. If you’re not sure, have a look to see if your council do a starter pack - many are doing this now or giving grants to new parents to encourage reusable nappies. There are so many different systems around to make it as convenient as possible for you too. Ultimately you have to do what you find the easiest, life is hard with a newborn as it is, so if reusable nappies are going to stress you out, it’s not worth it. Have a look at The Nappy Lady website and YouTube channel, she does a great job at explaining the many different types of nappies available. I’ve picked a bulkier option that others can find inconvenient because it’s a nappy of two parts instead of one, but I wanted to just have the same nappies for day and night and not be wondering if DH put a daytime nappy on before bed - you can get all in one systems though too.

Curlypop · 09/08/2018 12:48

I haven't bought anything! I'm going to wait till after 20week scan.
I have a cot and crib from last baby and will 100% be buying the perfect prep again. It saved my life! Been looking at pranks and fancy the cybex Priam. Had a oyster last time and still have it but the seat unit was crap!

sqoodles · 09/08/2018 13:46

I've started making a list of things to buy, things to look for in the eaves/garage/under the stairs/cupboard of doom which we stored last time. Also things we've lent to others. I have no clue where anything is! Grin There's plenty of time yet.

I have a feeling we got rid of the change mat, steriliser and top and tail bowl so we'll definitely need to replace those.

We had/have a snuzpod and a sleepy head and loved them. The sleepyhead was a blinking god send!!

I also loved the car seat wrap blankets - has anyone else got one? I can't remember what they were called and we definitely lent ours out to someone. It was brilliant in winter months to keep the baby cosy when travelling but without overheating them in big coats in the car.
