Buttercup53 I know absolutely nothing about babies either, and I think the last time I held a baby was when my brother was born 32 years ago. I apparently picked him up by the head (my excuse is that I was 3 years old and I probably thought he was like a doll).
I have no friends with kids, and I live far away from my family - where there are also no kids.
I have two baby books that so far seem pretty decent (but I haven't read them properly yet):
What to Expect the first year by Heidi Murkoff. If you know the What to Expect when you're expecting, this is very similar. There is a guide for what to buy, a guide on how to dress a baby, information about breastfeeding and formula, how to burp and wash a baby and so on.
I have liked the what to expect when you're expecting book, so I suspect this one will be good too.
and
First-time parent by Lucy Atkins. This book seems to go over similar subjects to the what the expect book, but it is a smaller book (and it has photos, whereas the what to expect book only uses drawings).
There are guides on baby massage, how to latch the baby on properly and how to change a diaper.
Both books seem to have troubleshooting guides and help with common issues.
The What to Expect book feels very exhaustive, but it's not the type of book I'd read - I'd use it to look up certain things.
The First-Time Parent book seems easier to just read, but I'm sure it will be good to use for looking up certain things too.
