Irritable and emotional - is labour near? Not enjoying pregnancy

I am 38 weeks and Although I am greatful for the little life growing inside me, have not enjoyed being pregnant one bit. 4 months of constant morning sickness (nausea and vometing) followed by what I can only describe as my fanny bone being snapped in half, sleepless nights (having to wake up when i need to roll over thanks to my pelvic pain), constant heart burn and water retention has left me feeling very down

For the past two weeks I’ve had pains in my lower back and stomach. Me and DH think it’s time and then they go away...for days!! The midwife said i was in early labour a week ago. Now i feel incredibly irritated. The irritation wakes me up in the night it feels like it’s radiating out of me. I’ve been incredibly emotional today and been in tears all day. I’m incredibly tired all the time but not sleeping. Did anyone have this before they went into labour? I’m still waiting for the nesting- my bump is so heavy and hips are sore I can’t do much.

I know everyone is different but I just need someone to tell me that I feel this rotton because he’s on his way out!!!

Hi guys!
So- was booked in to start me off due to protine in my wee and reduced fetal movement
I went in Friday at 12, got a hormone pessary which was supposed to take 24 hrs. 6hrs later i had contractions. By 4am my waters broke and i was 4cm- I asked for epidural which was a dream.
Was put on a hormone drip to encourage contractions but baba didnt like it. We tried to deliver naturally at 2am but he was stuck and stressed. I was taken to theatre for foreseps but ended up having an emergency c section

Long story short, I am the proud mama of baby Jude who was born at 3:15am 17th June weighing 8lb10!

I guess all that moodiness and pain was my body’s way of getting ready to meet this perfect bundle of love xx hope your all well and thank you for your support! Xxx

How long have you got 'left' @Brutusmcdogface xxx

carringtonm · 17/06/2018 20:07

Ahh, congratulations, @Babyrowlandsmummy! Love the name Jude!

Does anyone know how long stitches are very sore for? I am really struggling with the pain and having to resort to having a wee in the shower because doing it on the toilet has become unbearable 😂

GrumpySausage · 17/06/2018 20:25

It was about 3 days for me @carringtonm. I also did the weeing in the shower and bath! After that the pain became bearable unless I'd done a lot of walking.

carringtonm · 17/06/2018 22:09

@GrumpySausage I'm on day 4 😞😭 Haven't been able to psych myself up for a poo yet!

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2018 22:15

I'm 36 weeks now, Lucy ! Eek!!

Re: the weeing, have you tried leaning forwards when you wee? And poos- press a clean sanitary towel to the perineum so you don't feel like you're going to burst your stitches.

Omg. Can't believe I'm doing all of this again!! It's worth it though, right?! WinkGrin

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2018 22:16

carrington, please don't leave it too much longer to poo!

plainK · 17/06/2018 22:32

Congratulations! Guys @babyrowlandsmummy your experience doesn't sound that different from mine, really tough isn't it. Mine was 25 hours from waters breaking to delivery and started off a really positive experience. I was examined wrongly and told I was 10 cm when I was only 8 so early pushing (even though I told them I had no contractions or urge) meant I was swollen and he couldn't get through. I was transferred to hospital where they tried to give me an epi but it failed twice as it was so late. Because he was distressed I ended up having a forceps delivery with a local anesthetic and gas and
Air 😳 then had to be sent to theatre for a 3rd degree tear... really brutal and i think I could have managed had they not made the mistake. Would have been less traumatic with better pain relief too, it was such a relief when I was stitched up and I got a spinal. @EmmaJR1 congratulations on your birth, I'm glad it was a quick one for you. They're not all bad, I was just unlucky. @carringtonm I'm wondering that but more for a number two 😳 I can wee fine if I lean forwards as my stitches are all at the back.

I'll be having a section next time 😂

plainK · 17/06/2018 22:35

@brutusmcdogface deffinitely worth it, I would do it again for him 😍

2good · 18/06/2018 00:33

Oh plaink you poor thing! That sounds horrendous! I can see why you're traumatised!
Mine was 9lbs9oz so required suction and episiotomy- definitely feel it more in the back too. I'm dreading the first poo too!
Some of my friends have advised:
-pour warm water from a plastic bottle while going
-soak witch hazel on cotton wool and press on wound

  • take a stool softener every day
Good luck! 💩💩
GrumpySausage · 18/06/2018 09:58

I'm not going to lie. The first poo was probably as bad as the labour for me 😬 5 days later for me as I just couldn't face it. Felt so ill and bunged up.

My advice-just sit there and let nature take its course. Don't panic and maybe take some lactulose to help ease things along. I think my problem was I built it up in to this massive deal and tried to push which panicked me with my stitches!

Now I know I'm having a c section with this baby I'm prepping myself for the first poo. Googled good foods to eat and going to speak to chemist about things to help.

Ah, childbirth- so glam. Grin

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 18/06/2018 09:59

Oh plainK that sounds really traumatic. Poor you x

BrutusMcDogface · 18/06/2018 10:08

PlainK - glad you're feeling ok despite the trauma!! Bless you Flowers

I will reassure people by saying that my first poos have all been absolutely fine, (I've had three babies already, including two episiotomies) because I've drunk loads of warm water and eaten lots of fruit to make sure I didn't get constipated; relaxed on the loo as mentioned above, and didn't put it off at all. Plus the pressing on the stitches with the clean sanitary towel. Not minimising anyone else's suffering but just trying to reassure Flowers

2good · 18/06/2018 10:14

Sorry just checked with midwife and I shouldn't have been using witch hazel.. so don't do that! It can dissolve the stitches. Just plain water to wash, have showers not baths, sit on ice pack, and definitely stool softener and lots of fibre- deep breathe and relax muscles on toilet

plainK · 18/06/2018 10:14

Thanks guys, I think it's my mum and dp who will have lasting trauma they remember more than me. I've been taking lactulose twice a day since Thursday, no movement yet. But I do feel very bunged up, I was told NOT to push 😳 and just sit there I guess.

plainK · 18/06/2018 10:15

No baths @2good did she say why?

2good · 18/06/2018 10:31

Yeah she just said it's more hygienic not to sit in the water but to let it flow over you in the shower instead

TheGrumpySquirrel · 18/06/2018 13:36

My first poo with dd was fine too. Don't leave it too long and eat lots of fruit! But then I had no tearing and no stitches so I was very lucky.

Can anyone advise please.. I'm meant to be working until 38+4 but already struggling (am 31w, not sleeping well, hot and exhausted). I can work from home pretty much every day from 35w though. Other option is to start leave at 37w but I'm worried I'll be bored and lonely (I could use 2-3 KIT days but seems a waste to start leave early and then do that).

TheGrumpySquirrel · 18/06/2018 13:37

Brain function is also not great given the lack of sleep..
