Sometimes it’s sharp but doesn’t last long

Izzyw1983 · 13/06/2018 06:42

I'm getting same thing...feels like tearing

AnotherOriginalUsername · 13/06/2018 06:47

Yeah it'll be a pain on your left or right side - it's one of the ligaments that suspends your uterus. I get a nice twanging pain every time I roll over in bed or stand up straight after being bent over

Izzyw1983 · 13/06/2018 07:03

Yes...i panicked when I first felt it but that was at week 8...which I thought was too early for that

ellsbells90 · 13/06/2018 09:15

On the pain front, I'm 16w4d and my left hip is completely out of place ☹️. Struggling to walk and my midwife said it's my hormones.

On a positive note though, had a bath last night to rest it and I'm certain my baby either loved or hated it as it felt like someone tapping me on the belly! So surreal. First time... almost like a hard vibration. It was that or wind but I'm going with the baby!! 😂

Kt2108 · 13/06/2018 10:39

Jumping on here but experiencing the same, everything hurts! Breeze up to now and the last 2 weeks have been hell

That's exactly how I described it!! Like a tap!
Do people feel varied movements like strength wise, I've only had one prominent tap on Saturday and then what I think are little pops since then. Just wondering - not worried as I know it's still got so much room in there.

ellsbells90 · 13/06/2018 11:23

@Kt2108 well last night was my first feeling... and after the tap it was lots of "popping" which was what made me think it was wind haha. I don't think it was though. I think it will be a good few weeks till they're more obvious and daily! Grin

Kt2108 · 13/06/2018 11:36

@ellsbells it’s so hard to disinguish isn’t it! I’m 18 weeks now and I know everyone’s different but just wondering when it’s gunna be more regular. Ended up thinking you’ve imagined it when it just disappears 😂

Can I ask for some advice?

I have a 150 mile commute and then a desk job. My GP has said that I've got sciatica and also that common condition where your pelvis goes out of line.

Doc said that I was spoiling for sciatica anyway with my commute and job, and that continuing to do my commute will make it worse.

She essentially said that I should get signed off work sooner rather than later to try to prevent it getting to the point where I'm in agony as she's so sure work and the commute is making it so much worse. If I carry on at work, I'll likely need to get signed off anyway later in my pregnancy when it's really really bad.

What would you do? I have full sick pay so I'd have full pay until my maternity leave and it wouldn't impact my maternity leave. Part of my thinks I'd be out of order for going off sick as a preventative measure, but part of me thinks that I need to look after myself and if going off sick means it's likely the pain wouldn't get as bad as it might, and I'd be able to remain active longer in to my pregnancy which is obviously important, then I need to so everything I can at this point to help ensure I stay well for as long as possible.

What do yous reckon?

Sorry for all my typos! My commute is 150 miles a day, not each way and being off sick won't affect my maternity pay but I'd have to go off at 36 weeks which I don't mind... I've got holidays that I would have taken otherwise so I can tag them at the other end. x

@Emma198 I would be taking your doctors advice I think. If that's what they're recommending then I would assume they feel that's the best course of action...

If you decide to stay on is there any adjustments that can be taken... can you work from home for a couple of days a week?

Kt2108 · 13/06/2018 15:15

Emma
I would take it 100%. Especially how you get full pay. Health is always the most important !

AnotherOriginalUsername · 13/06/2018 18:55

Sciatica is awful, you have my sympathies. I had it continually for about 3 years - I have prolapsed discs in my lumbar spine.

Could you amend your working environment in any way? Work from home, is there closer office?

Emma198 · 13/06/2018 19:17

Thanks girls. Oh gosh @Another you've had a time of it haven't you! I've never really had any problems which I think might be adding to why it's making me so miserable!

I had a call with HR today about a member of my team so I took the opportunity to ask them what they thought and they said I should follow doctor advice. June is hectic beyond belief so think I might see how I'm feeling in July. She's put an urgent referral through for a physio so might have seen them by then too, and I'm seeing midwife and consultant next week too so lots of people to advise me 😊 so far though it's all going one way. x

No closer office and my job is really hands on with my team so unless they let me do different duties I can't work from home, I have the capability though.

Hello,

Just wanted to say I'm still here...

My mum passed away quite suddenly 10 days ago...

My whole world has been turned upside down... she was only 49.

I'm trying my best to do what I need to for the baby but I'm just exhausted beyond belief and I know I haven't even started grieving yet...

AnotherOriginalUsername · 13/06/2018 21:09

Oh EL332 that's completely awful, I'm so sorry. All you need to do for baby is eat, sleep and be kind to yourself. Big hugs

Emma198 · 13/06/2018 21:20

@EL332 I'm so sorry. How awful. Look after yourself. x

Really sorry to hear that @EL332 sending lots of love.

Just been for my 16 week midwife apt. Listened to the heartbeat. Was so lovely 💛

Emma198 · 15/06/2018 20:52

I have mine on Monday @Green

What do they do at the 16 week appointment?

GreenGooner · 15/06/2018 21:47

I was only in there about 20ish minutes. Took a urine sample & blood pressure. Talked about any issues, then offered to listen to the heartbeat. They said that it's not always easy to find and that if they can't then consider how anxious that would make you feel. I wanted to go ahead anyway and she found it straight away!

4 weeks now until 20 week scan. This part seems to be going much quicker...

Melaniesunflower · 15/06/2018 22:11

I had my 16 week appointment today. Like GreenGooner, I had blood pressure and urine check, general chat, and a chance to hear the heartbeat. My MW also said it's not always possible to find it at 16 weeks as baby is still quite small, and can wriggle out the way easily. Well she certainly had trouble with my little one, we could hear it for a second, then it would move, probably not helped by giggling at her chat when she lost it again.....

Emma198 · 15/06/2018 23:36

just came up to bed. someone has taken a liking to my pregnancy pillow 😭😭 he looks so comfy hugging it with his little arm

My 16w appt was shit. I guess the downside to living in a busy area but she was so rushed, felt like she was reading a textbook to me. I should have apparently came with a wee sample and had 'no time' to do one? Found babies heartbeat straight away luckily, or I think she'd have given up.

Bit of a twat really... quite disheartening lol!

Glad everyone else's went well though, hopefully next time she actually gives me my 10 minutes I'm entitled to!
