Ahh, I see. I thought you meant she'd had a mid-contraction epiphany!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 19:38

That's how it's come across but looking back on it....

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 19:56

Finally got round to downloading my last scan photo. Amazing how much they change in such a short space of time!

Oh my gosh that's awful, I didn't know it was dangerous.

@Another that's the sort of thing to start an AIBU thread about and watch them all go at her!!

Amazing how much they change. Our 12 week scan was clearer than our 20 week but hoping to get another print out at 28 weeks :)

My next scan is 28 weeks and then every 2 weeks after that. The photos are going to bankrupt me 😂

Emma198 · 24/08/2018 20:32

The sonographer gives us ours in an envelope, and there's a machine that you pay at. But the machine doesn't know who you are, how many pictures you've got, and no one makes sure you use it. My first appointment I asked my midwife how and she said she didn't know so just don't bother.

Second time I asked for 2 pics, figured out how to do it and paid for two, and she bought me three!

A bit lax on the scan payments at my hospital.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 24/08/2018 21:08

It's £10 for each you want to download from my hospital which really cheeses me off. I have no issue paying any amount (although £10 each is steep!) if it goes back into hospital funding, but the money goes straight to a third party website in this case instead Angry

My next scan is at the specialist hospital and I think they're £2 per print out cash payment and that does go back into hospital funds.

Well that's official, they've used our boys name. Better hope we have a girl Sad

Fuckedoffat48b · 25/08/2018 07:43

That's really vile of them @anotheroriginalusername

ReiofHope · 25/08/2018 07:55

@another
That's awful of them. I lost loads of names I liked over the years since I'm one of the last to start a family, I can't imagine how upset you must be losing your name while you're pregnant! It's so unfair of them.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/08/2018 08:03

I think the worst bit is that we found out we were pregnant at almost the same time and from day one we have always said this is our boys name and this is our girls name. About a month ago (after we questioned their persistent questioning of what we were having) they said they liked the boys name but would use it as a middle name instead. Then 4am this morning I wake up to a Facebook post (not even a text!) to the arrival of X name.

I'm upset, my husband is angry. I think I've worked out why, the name is the the most basic (and currently only) part of our baby's Identity and now it has a 50% chance of having to share that with what will be a very close family member (close in relationship, age and geographically)

Emma198 · 25/08/2018 08:12

If they had always wanted it, they should have piped at right at day 1 when you said you were using it that it was their chosen name too. Is it a family name x

OP posts:
AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/08/2018 08:18

It is on our choosing, but BiLs girlfriend decided she liked it, it wasn't even BiL that chose

Emma198 · 25/08/2018 08:29

Wonder if he's embarrassed about it. Is this the BIL that lived with you until recently?

OP posts:
AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/08/2018 13:04

He has stayed with us for periods of time up to 6 months over the last few years

AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/08/2018 13:10

So whilst I've been at work....

Husband is angry
Husband's sister also thinks its a dickish thing to do
Mother in law is upset that it's going to cause problems between husband and his brother

And I've forked out over £100 for a private scan next week to try and find out what the hell we're having as us having a girl would save a lot of bother!

Emma198 · 25/08/2018 19:43

Baby better behave for that one! I'm guessing they'd have the same surname too?

OP posts:
AnotherOriginalUsername · 25/08/2018 20:03

Yep!

Decided to book a 4D scan and try and get a crotch shot, because even if we can't see the sex hopefully we'll see something so it won't be a complete waste of time, effort and money!

orangejuicer · 26/08/2018 15:49

another sorry to hear about your BIL but a 4d scan sounds like a great idea.

I've just ordered this Grin

We've just been offered a next2me crib from a friend. I wasn't going to bother with one (on cost grounds mainly!) and just use a Moses basket. Any thoughts?

shallen · 26/08/2018 16:30

@AnotherOriginalUsername we were just going to use a Moses basket too, then MIL told us there is a family crib (1st dh had heard of it) so we are going to have both and use Moses basket for downstairs snoozies in the early days and crib for bed time.
That's the plan anyway, whether it works or like that...... who knows.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/08/2018 18:58

We bought a Tutti Bambini Cozee from Mothercare when there was £20 off. I'm not sure about a moses basket though as people keep telling me they outgrow them in a few weeks. Might just use the pram lie flat carrycot bit downstairs. And a bouncer thing. Or spend the first few weeks chilling in bed...

AnotherOriginalUsername · 26/08/2018 19:04

Our Moses basket was £5 from a charity shop including stand. They're taken in there all the time (I work next to one so see all the stuff being carried across the car park!). £15 for a new mattress in one of the endless sales somewhere (currently a baby event on in Dunelm). My nephew is not a small baby and still uses his during the day for naps at 7 months

BrewsD · 26/08/2018 19:19

We've gotten a bedside cot for him to sleep at night next to us at the beginning, then a cot-bed for his own room when he's old enough. We're probably going to get a Moses basket for the living room downstairs for day time naps.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/08/2018 23:09

Not sure then - everywhere I have read (forums and articles) says a baby would be moved from a moses basket at 3-4 months and we want to have him in our room until 6 months. I may change my mind and get a cheap one for downstairs naps. It depends on the size of the basket I guess.
