What did you wash your newborn with?

Hi guys,

Probably a silly question but here goes!

I'm looking at the products available for bathing/washing babies and have no clue which is the best one, so thought I would ask my MN buddies!

My skin doesn't cope too well with Johnsons Baby products so would like to choose something else.

Any tips/comments much appreciated.

WanderingTrolley · 16/05/2007 13:26

Did I mention 'water?'

anyone?

ScaryHairy · 16/05/2007 13:26

AC

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/05/2007 13:26

but make sure the water's organic.

JARM · 16/05/2007 13:27

Just water.

I did have to use a tiny amount of baby shampoo on my girls, but they were both born with full heads of hair, that was completely matted and covered in gunk! Twas the only way to get it out.

TBH, I use supermarket own brands!

Sparkling or still?

Arriety · 16/05/2007 13:27

Water.

Still only rarely use anything else on dd1 who is 2 and then I tend to use Neal's Yard stuff. I have sensitive skin so try stuff on myself first. And actually I only ever use water on my face and have done for about 20 years.

TooTicky · 16/05/2007 13:28

Just water.

Water.

Don't waste money on fancy baby 'products' - use the sample size freebies you get, and then buy one thing.

Some babies have quite dry skin post birth, especially if they're overdue, so soap will just make it worse. Honestly water is the best thing to start with.

WanderingTrolley · 16/05/2007 13:28

I think we need to keep this thread bumped.

Some conflicting answers on here...

Swizzler · 16/05/2007 13:29

Def warm water and cotton wool for newborns. As they get older (and dirtier) you can start using a gentle baby wash but no need for a newborn.

Water and cotton wool for nappy changes also a good idea. Baby wipes can give some babies a nasty nappy rash. Esp a good idea if you have sensitive skin yourself. Again, I started using wipes (Huggies Pure) later on as the baby got harder to clean! You will get through a lot of cotton wool, so stock up

NoodleStroodle, ROFL, thank you so much I needed that laugh so badly.

Myfairone, just water, but a little Johnsons for the hair when needed.

hunkermunker · 16/05/2007 13:31

I can't believe you lot, you'll argue over the...oh, hang on...

Water.

Furball · 16/05/2007 13:36

Johnsons is not as skin friendly as you may think.

Little Me stuff is nicer.

WanderingTrolley · 16/05/2007 13:40

You spoke to soon hunker.

H2O also ok.

barbamama · 16/05/2007 13:40

water at first then with oilatum as he had a tocuh of excema then with organic non chemical wash when a bit older (eg Green People) - Johnsons, Avent etc have a load of chemicals in.

WanderingTrolley · 16/05/2007 13:41

too

Nbg · 16/05/2007 13:43

I didnt bath ds till he was nearly 3 weeks and then it was just water and then we had to use aqueous cream as he had terrible dry skin.

WigWamBam · 16/05/2007 13:44

Bloody hell, what a contentious topic this is ...

Water.

She's 6 this week, and guess what? I still bath her in water.

Myfairone · 16/05/2007 15:41

Well if I known this would get you all going I would have posted it much earlier for the laugh!

So the jury is still out then?

Water it is!

Thank you all
x
