Hi guys,

Probably a silly question but here goes!

I'm looking at the products available for bathing/washing babies and have no clue which is the best one, so thought I would ask my MN buddies!

My skin doesn't cope too well with Johnsons Baby products so would like to choose something else.

Any tips/comments much appreciated.

I use oatmeal water (handful of porridge in a stocking thrown into the bath) as its a miracle cure for nappy rash!

Lysettes · 17/05/2007 21:31

water for him when he was a newborn and then little me products after about 2 months.

johnsons is way too harsh for him!

like foxcub's suggestion though, might have to try that!

DS1 was only ever bathed in water, we were so careful& he developed eczema at a few months which took loads of lotions from the DR to clear up.
DS2 got dunked in whatever we had in the bath at the time, matey if he was with his brother or Coconut bubbles with me, his skin has always been beautiful... although he wasn't bathed at all until he was about 6 wks old in SCBU.

water...and olive oil from the kitchen when DS' skin was really dry. Now he is older we use oilatum or infaderm.

People gave us loads of johnsons stuff (esp my mum) but I don't even like it on my own skin so it is still sitting in a box in DS' room untouched along with 3 bottles of unopened talc.

just used water and sometimes a bit of olive oil or drugstores own brand for nappy area. bathed dd in breast milk (mw - tip), was great for her skin! (put just a cup or two into the WATER of course.... )

Just sqirted a drop of Tesco All over baby wash in the bath water when they were newbies but then washed them with it too. I can only use that for washing me too as I've got sensitive skin. Johnson's is way too harsh.
Now I use Infacare for our baths as it smells lovely and doesn't react with my skin or their's.

Wash at 60 degrees with the baby clothes, half the normal amount of non bio detergent and a splash of vinegar in the fabric conditioner compartment.

Hang on...wrong thread.....

PregnantGrrrl · 18/05/2007 10:00

just water here too.

suzywong · 18/05/2007 10:01

water

and a nice polish with almond oil afterwards

eidsvold · 18/05/2007 10:10

water and then as they got older
natural instinct baby wash or aromababy or gaia stuff - all natural ones.

mears · 18/05/2007 10:13

here is why you should use water

editor100 · 18/05/2007 15:38

Water for about two weeks, then got bored of that so started using organic baby bath stuff from Waitrose.

TheArmadillo · 18/05/2007 15:47

water and olive oil. Ds was overdue and had very dry skin - olive oil made a huge difference though it did make him slippery.

MW recommendation.

giddybiddy · 20/05/2007 14:04

There is a lovely nappy salve and baby oil from a small company called Pure Potions which you can use after the water for massage or even add to the water.......Salve v good for any dry skin.

MerryMarigold · 20/05/2007 21:17

water. i used all the johnson's stuff as i got as gifts on myself! such a shame, they do smell nicer than water, but babies have such sensitive skin and i have skin like a rhino, so i can handle all those chemicals and perfumes.

amk78 · 21/05/2007 10:34

The only thing I use Johnsons for is to wash my dog, even then I dilute it. But He does smell lovely after and his coat goes all fluffy
