Following on from the Itchy & bitchy 2nd trimester thread!

I'm now 25 + 6 weeks, so very nearly 6 months gone! 3 months remaining...

Morning sickness is still very present and I've been reminded of this 4-8 times a day all week.

On the plus side- movements are now very regular and I love them! Much lower down than I remember DC1 being- lots of bladder kicks which are /not/ fun.

Hows everyone else doing with the 3rd trimester?

@LMX0
@CremeDeSudo

How are you two getting along?? Grin

I'm nervous about breastfeeding but my mum had no troubles (until my younger brother starting biting her as soon as he started to get teeth). I'm less worried about it being difficult, more about the logistics and how my medication will effect it as it does effect lactating. I leaked before I started medication, as soon as I started my nipples went back to normal but it was in the second trimester when that happens anyway. It's not prescribed to teenagers as it can cause abnormal breast development and lactation....ill see how it goes but I may have to use formula, at least as a top up. Hopefully I can come off medication gradually after birth, I'm only on a very low dose.

Embracethechaos · 17/05/2018 09:57

I'd love a water birth. Baths did not help my skin and nipples yesterday... Was a bit too relaxing, had the window open a bit for ventilation and water to hand... Definitely spent too long in there!

mustbemad17 · 17/05/2018 10:01

Had an unplanned home birth with number 2...she came too fast for anything other than gas & air haha. This time i'm planning one, all being well, & am quite excited about it. I had a water birth with my DD & it was lush, so hoping a home water birth be lovely.

I want to bf but sucked with DD & didn't even offer to pump for number 2 just in case...was like a cow then, sod's law!!

LostMyBaubles · 17/05/2018 10:07

Can I join?
Im 24 weeks exactly today.

Struggling very much more and more each day due to severe pgp/spd
Physio is in 2 weeks.

Start of pregnancy i had HG, a few bleeds and generally not a pleasant time.

Atm im coming out in what look like boils or pimples around my bump.
Im on blood thinning injections every day and have to inject under belly button.

While I love being pregnant its the physical pain that's hard.

This is dc4 so have 3 more to run after
High risk for gestational diabetes (which I think ive got was very close last time but still within normal and this time im always thirsty despite drinking enough but not too much (2L a day spacee out) im weeing every 30mins or so most of the day, super dry mouth all the time and feel tired after meals.

Also high risk of pre eclampsiaHmm
This pregnancy business isnt easy is it lol

CremeDeSudo · 17/05/2018 10:16

@LostMyBaubles Welcome! As a fellow SPD/PGP sufferer, can I suggest visiting the chiro? I wouldn't have made it this far without!

I'm high risk too - I have a cervical stitch holding the baby in! I'm just hoping to make it to 34 wks at this stage. So far so good, but I've started getting more random pains now so getting nervous!

readysetcake · 17/05/2018 10:17

I had a water birth last time and it was amazing how much it helped with the pain. I was in well established labour when I jumped in and the soothing effect was instant! Oh that and the copious amounts of gas and air Grin

Frustrating when you get the dates of appointments wrong @embracethechaos! Especially when you build it up with lots of questions you hope to get the answers too! Hopefully your medication won’t be a big issue for the baby when it comes to feeding.

@WreckItRach sorry you had so much trouble too Sad. It was a traumatic time! Pesky nipples! I heard about the pump and will definitely try that this time. But how does that work when out in a cafe?! Don’t fancy whipping my pump out to extract my nipple next to people while people eating their cake.Blush hard to be subtle about that.

@lmx0 hope the breastfeeding workshop is helpful Smile my only advice is not to be like me and obsess about it. I refused to use nipple shields or give a little bottle of formula to give my bleeding nipples a break as I was so worried about DD refusing the breast. It was all I thought about for the first month and it started to affect my bond with DD and tarnished those first special weeks Sad This time I’m definitely not going to be afraid to let the baby have a bottle if my nipples are screaming in pain and need a rest! But fingers crossed you all have a much easier time of it that me. And like I said I think my dodgy nipples really played a part. I think I like all things child related, a positive attitude but open mind is the key Smile

mustbemad17 · 17/05/2018 10:29

Accupuncture did wonders for my SPD. I was hobbled over on crutches, couldn't get myself out of chairs & having a bath (we have no shower) was a nightmare of a mission. One session of accupuncture has meant I can move a lot better, not relying on the crutches & things have eased a lot. It was a godsend

Embracethechaos · 17/05/2018 10:45

Decided to brave the public pool this morning, I'm not a huge swimming fan but it really helped in holiday. It's the same time as schools and I'm not a fan of noise and the chlorine smell in pools. Feeling a lot better mentally, like ill cope fine once I'm in the pool and will allow me to have a nice relaxed afternoon after my crappy night sleep with stiff hips.

AKP79 · 17/05/2018 11:30

Oh ladies - I need to have a whinge and I'm hoping this is a safe space to do so. 31+4 today with my second and I am so over being pregnant. Really struggling to concentrate at work, I'm counting the minutes until maternity leave and I'm soooo tired (but also aware that this tiredness is nothing compared to newborn tiredness)!

Due date feels so long away even though I'm on the home stretch!!

mustbemad17 · 17/05/2018 11:44

How long do you have left at work? Whinge away...i spend my days doing it & i sit at home all day resting!

GottaBeStrong · 17/05/2018 11:46

I'm dragging myself going to the pool today too @embracethechaos - Hope you enjoyed yourself.

The bepanthen has helped a bit. It's weird because it's not really chub rub in the walking friction sense. It seems to occur mainly or solely when I'm asleep. I think it's my thighs and my belly are interconnecting (lol!) when I lie on my side and creating a warm/hot environment of their own.

mustbemad17 · 17/05/2018 11:57

I'm jealous of you all swimming! My plans were scuppered by DD being sent home from school...trying to entertain a restless 5 year old is no fun 😭

lmx0 · 17/05/2018 12:05

@readysetcake i plan to stay pretty laid back about it all ill have formula at home even if the bf works i would still like to do bottles as i know kids that really struggled when it came to weaning onto bottles and can guve me a break!! Aww its so easy to let it take over though i hope you have a better time this time around!!
@LostMyBaubles welcome and poor you you really have had a rough time of it!! Hopefully things pick up for you
@CremeDeSudo deffo worth saying to your midwife just incase it something to do with your stitch?
@Embracethechaos glad the pool helped!!! Easy day for you in the sun (if its sunny!)

Smurfybubbles · 17/05/2018 12:16

Just dipping back in to see how you all are! DS now nearly 2 weeks old, hard to believe!

I was worried too about breastfeeding and I missed the workshop when I was pregnant. As soon as I made it to recovery after my c section a lovely nurse/midwife came and helped me get baby to latch. They recommend getting them on within the golden hour!

We had some tough times after that in the coming days when baby lost 13% of his body weight and my milk took an extra day or so to come in but DS needed the milk sooner. I ended up using a formula feed (premade bottle) to bump his intake and then invested in a hand pump to express a feed or two off. He was too sleepy to wake up and feed himself. Since then my milk has come in and he's putting his weight back on!

I suppose what I'm getting at is don't be scared, take the help and advice they give you in the hospital and don't be afraid to use formula/expressed feeds/nipple shields/whatever you need to get it working for you! There's so much pressure on women to breastfeed it's ridiculous when at the end of the day and happy healthy baby is all that matters!

lmx0 · 17/05/2018 12:20

@AKP79 your in the right place!! I feel your pain but thankfully my tiredness has eased thankfully hopefully yours will too😊
@GottaBeStrong i used some and it helped a bit thankfully!!

Just had the anti D injection they put it into the upper arm near the shoulder and hardly noticed it 😊

WreckItRach · 17/05/2018 13:26

@lmx0 I'm glad the anti D went well!

@Smurfybubbles how are you doing? I hope you aren't too tired. I just worry about bf because as much as I have read up, I don't feel like I will have a clue on how often, how much, how to know when they are full or if they are getting enough! Madness.

Embracethechaos · 17/05/2018 13:41

First 10 minutes were good, thought I'd been swimming for at least half an hour then I started to get a headache and really tired, sleepy and gasey. I kept going with lots of breaks and spent most the time holding on to the edge. I was too slow for the slow lane! Splashing about in a small shallow outdoor pool is a bit different to swimming in an indoor deep, laps pool. I'm far vett5at backstroke now I'm pregnant but was just too tired. My tummy was very relaxed but every other part of me ached swimming, esspesally my left inner thigh which has been a bit dodgy most of my pregnancy and before. Esspesally after it cramped one morning. Meant I kept drifting to the side...and it was quite busy at one point. I did some stretches in the pool. I swam for less than an hour but my headake got really bad when I got out, with dizziness. I did enjoy the nice hot showers as I only have a bath with a shower attachment at home. I've had headaches and migraines most my pregnancy and it seems to be anxiety related mostly. I think it was a bit caffeine withdrawal as I missed my morning coffee because it burned my throat. I decided I should have a coffee before driving but got to the cafe.... Stared at the menu for ages then ordered a smoothie instead and had a paracetamol. Was nice and healthy but I did need caffeine. Its the best thing for my headakes. I was OK driving but did feel like my reactions were slow. I'm thinking I should probably stop driving soon.

I'm still glad I went as all my joints feel more relaxed, just going to stick to yoga from now on I think!

Anyway I should stop moaning as I'm not a high risk pregnancy, I'm off work and now I've got the afternoon to myself.

Smurfy, thanks for the advice. I've allready bought a pump to express so my husband can do a night feedGrin the guidance for my meds is to either do a big feed before taking them or express.. My medication does make me sleep well and I'm often up at the break of dawn and my husband loves his weekend lie ins. We will try to stick to that, he does a late night feed and I do the early mornings. He was said before he wants to be a stay at home dad, allthough now he's enjoying his work and wants to train to be a teacher but he has the summer holidays off and we are using the shared parental leave so he can take some leave in 2019.

lmx0 · 17/05/2018 13:48

@Smurfybubbles aww 2 weeks already!!! Thats good you had good support 😊 and 100% a fed baby is best no how they are fed how are getting on with baby?
@WreckItRach thanks 😊
@Embracethechao at least you tried and try not to push yourself too much

Embracethechaos · 17/05/2018 13:53

Thanks, lmxo. I knew I shouldn't but I didn't want to have made all that effort for 10 minutes. I recovered pretty quickly from my headake unlike before I was on medication where it would have knocked me out for at least a day. I spent the whole swim arguing with myself whether or not I should get out.

Smurfybubbles · 17/05/2018 14:37

Getting on really well, the tiredness is manageable with an afternoon nap but there have been some nights we're he has cluster fed and they were tough! I feel way more human now with less sleep because the heartburn, achy hips and hugeness are now gone! I was never cut out for pregnancy Confused

@WreckItRach I was the same at the beginning wondering if I was feeding him enough but you learn to read their queues like rooting for your boob or hand sucking, I literally offered him a feed whenever and if he took it good and if not I'd leave him to it! At the beginning when waiting for my milk to come in he was really sleepy because he wasn't getting enough food so I was having to strip him off to wake him up to feed.

Now I know that he needs a feed every 3ish hours cause my boobs get really tender and full! For the first week or so you've got midwifes popping around to weigh them and see how their doing so you can gauge how well they are feeding, they gave me great advice and tips and reassured me that I was doing ok ! We have until next Tuesday to get back to birth weight and if he doesn't he might get referred to a pediatrician but to be honest I don't think he will as he feeds well now.

Just go into it with the mindset that you'll give it a go with no pressure and it will come easier. I have friends that killed themselves and got all worked up and in the end it just didn't work out for them but they have beautiful healthy babies.

readysetcake · 17/05/2018 16:38

Aw so good to hear from you @smurfybubbles. Glad to hear you’re getting on well. That two weeks has gone fast!

Great to hear things have fallen into place with the breastfeeding. Very good advice you've given there 😊 I was like your friends and felt shit when I admitted defeat. And it was all for nothing as I have an amazing, healthy 2 year old that is ahead for the curve for most things and a complete delight to be around. So all the anguish was pointless. I wish I’d have saved myself all the heartache!

WreckItRach · 17/05/2018 16:49

It's really good to hear that @Smurfybubbles . I guess you learn to adapt really quickly as well and if it doesn't work out I have the perfect prep machine ready in the kitchen!!

I'm so pleased your LO is doing really well now :)

LostMyBaubles · 17/05/2018 17:16
