Teachers - have your students noticed your pg yet? If so at what point? I'm trying to keep it quiet from them til at least my 20 week scan but worried the older ones will notice and don't want to unsettle my Year 10s at this point - they obv assume I'll be their teacher next year!

niclw · 16/04/2018 22:31

@surreygirl1987 I'm the same as you. Trying to keep it quiet till 20 weeks. I've had a few looks and questions from sixth form before the hol but I didn't have a bump then just a little bloat. If possible I'll hide it for longer by wearing baggy/ draping cardigans.

Mississippilessly · 16/04/2018 22:45

surreygirl87 I only got to 17 weeks. Rumours were like wild fire so I ended up just saying 'f you want to ask me something, you can'. I'd have preferred to keep it quiet for longer but hey-ho.

sososotired · 16/04/2018 22:54

@niclw I'm not a teacher, I'm a chef at a school, so trying to work out what I want to do after the summer holiday, I'll be 37 weeks then but can't decide if I want to go in for a week or not im due 22/9.....

PinkyPromise77 · 17/04/2018 07:44

Hehe not badly planned timing for all the ladies that are due beginning of September and are working in school 😂

sososotired · 17/04/2018 08:20

Not going to lie for an unplanned baby the timing is really good!

Squiffy01 · 17/04/2018 08:56

Ha my midwife told me the birthing centre I want to be in is always very busy in September because that’s when all the teachers have their babies.

Has anyone joined NCT or will join? I would like to but the one in my area the classes all start at 7 or 7:30 which would mean I would have to leave work early each time which I think will all the other appointments I actually need to go to is a bit unfair on work.

PinkyPromise77 · 17/04/2018 08:56

@sososotired hehe and I'm here wondering if I can have 2 weeks off before baby is here 😂😂😂

PinkyPromise77 · 17/04/2018 08:57

@Squiffy01 lol that's so funny 😂

@PinkyPromise77 I took a job at a school due to already having a child so came in handy with childcare but looks like it's good for maternity too 😂 I want to work up to 38 weeks but being a chef it's rather hard with a big old belly in the way with my son I felt useless that far gone getting people to lift and move things for me!

Mississippilessly · 17/04/2018 09:33

niclw we aren't finding out either

Charlotte2101 · 17/04/2018 10:28

@Squiffy01 I wanted to join NCT but couldn't justify the costs, I think it was about £215 in my area.
I have managed to get on all of the nhs courses in my area including one that's over 4 weeks so I'm hoping il be well covered info wise but would have liked to have joined for meeting friends locally xx

Mississippilessly · 17/04/2018 11:01

Pinky I know we wouldn't believe how lucky we were - first try and I'm due 4th september! Fingers crossed we don't have an early appearance...

EllMae · 17/04/2018 11:05

@sososotired aww we are so close then - I am due 21st Sept!! Hoping that it goes quickly because we are all so excited.

Squiffy01 · 17/04/2018 14:14

charlotte it’s ao expensive isn’t my friend who is also pregnant said one near us is over £300! Which seems very expensive when all I want it for is to make friends.

I can’t decide if I want to go off at 36 or 38 weeks. With first you aren’t too likely to go early so think I’m leaning towards 38 but I just know how exhausted I will be.

Has anyone given any thought about childcare options or not even considered that far away yet?

I’m off to the shops to find some clothes that fit.

Charlotte2101 · 17/04/2018 14:19

Agree the main reason I wanted it is for making friends

I'm planning on going on leave at 38 weeks. I have a desk job and as it's summer holidays (we provide resources and training for early years) it'l be quiet for my last few weeks so I think il be able to take it fairly easy (I'm hoping!) I am keeping back a few weeks holiday to tag onto end of mat leave so if it comes to it il use them at beginning of august. Planning on last day been 17th august, due on 31st xx

Charlotte2101 · 17/04/2018 14:21

@Squiffy01 sorry forgot to say. I'm hoping to go down to 4 days at work and 2 family members have offered to care for baby a day a week so I have 2 days that I need to cover. I'm leaning more towards a nursery than a childminder.
What have you been thinking of? Xx

sososotired · 17/04/2018 16:56

@EllMae wow just one day between our due dates! I'm in two minds at the moment waning time to pass quickly so we get to meet this little monkey but also wanting time to stand still so that my son can enjoy his last few months as an only before life as he knows it changes completely!

itallhappensforareason · 17/04/2018 16:57

Has anyone started thinking about feeing/bottles/equipment etc or done it before? I literally have no idea what I'm doing... I originally thought the Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine was an absolute no brainer but have since found out it's for formula and not breast milk! D'oh.

I am hoping to breastfeed so on my list I have a breast pump (is manual or electric better?), breast milk storage pouches, Tommee Tippee breast milk pouch warmer, MAM self-sterilizing bottles and the Tommee Tippee travel flask. Would like my husband to be able to feed baby too when required and when out and about I don't want to have to breastfeed in public (nothing against anyone who does, I just don't think I'd feel comfortable!). Does this sound like I have everything covered? Confused

sososotired · 17/04/2018 16:58

@Charlotte2101 & @Squiffy01 you don't need to join nct to make baby friends :) they so a mummy and baby group once a week that you can drop into which is free (in Oxfordshire) and you don't even have to be an nct member :)

sososotired · 17/04/2018 17:02

@itallhappensforareason you will need breastpads Hun and nipple cream (just to be on the safe side) I had a manual pump with my son took absolute ages but I have no experience with the electric ones and added to that my milk production was very very low

itallhappensforareason · 17/04/2018 17:05

@sososotired thanks! Added to list. This baby lark is such a minefield!!!

snowy1982 · 17/04/2018 17:16

@itallhappens I am hoping to BF too and I didn’t know about half the stuff on your list, gonna screen shot it and add on the cream and pads. I will have to pump and feed by bottle relatively quickly as I will only have 4mths off (and I also want DH to do the odd night feed)

itallhappensforareason · 17/04/2018 17:30

@snowy same here, I want to try and go back to work relatively quickly, probably around 4 months too. Due 6th Sept so thinking in January some time even if just a few days a week so whoever is on baby sitting duty will need milk.

Seen lots of people saying you shouldn't try and combine breast feeding and bottles as it can confuse baby but to be honest in the real world do you really have much choice?!

Will try not to put too much pressure on myself though, if it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't. I wasn't breast fed at all and I turned out all right (I think😂).
