Yesterday morning I felt queasy and knew instantly I was pregnant. DH thought I was nuts as I’ve had the Mirena for about 18months now but I just knew. I tried to see if I could still feel the strings ( I’m not very good at checking) but couldn’t, although that’s not unusual apparently. So I found a test that I bought about 2 years ago and have just done it. It’s positive isn’t it?
The thing is I really really don’t want any more babies - I already have a very large family (8dc) and I’m old. However an abortion is out of the question. I can’t believe this has happened.

Um it looks positive to me.
You need to get to the doctor ASAP as I believe there is a higher risk of ectopic pregnancy with the mirena.
Sorry you have to deal with this Thanks

Redtartanshoes · 03/03/2018 07:33

Looks positive to me.

Sorry it’s not the result you wanted. Drs on Monday for you x Flowers

Yes, that’s positive. Is the test still in date? I’d maybe do another to check?

Lillylollylandy · 03/03/2018 07:34

Yes that's positive OP. How are you feeling?

FogCutter · 03/03/2018 07:34

Oh dear that looks positive to me, I'm sorry it's not the result you want.

huha · 03/03/2018 07:36

Another positive opinion 😬😬

Can you get out to get another in date test?

Afreshcuppateaplease · 03/03/2018 07:36

It does look positive

So sorry this is not what you want

spugzbunny · 03/03/2018 07:37

That's very positive! It's actually pulling colour from the control line so I'd guess you are a few weeks in. You need to contact your doctor ASAP and explain you have a mirena in place

ineedtochangemynameforthis · 03/03/2018 07:48

I just checked, the test is very out of date but I’m not sure that would give a false positive - especially as I’m certain.
I won’t be able to see my own doctor on Monday I’ll just have to see one of the duty doctors and I don’t want to cry in their office if I don’t really know them but I didn’t realise there was a higher chance of ectopic pregnancy though so I won’t wait for an appt I’ll just go and see whoever.
For those asking how I feel - stupid mostly and still in shock. I cannot go through this again.

What a worry. It's worth double checking with a new test before seeing your gp. Be vigilant for any abdo pain and bleeding in the meantime.

MollyHuaCha · 03/03/2018 08:08

Test again with an up to date test. They're not reliable when very old.

LauraO1905 · 03/03/2018 08:12

It's definitely positive but the test is out of date and the background looks yellowish rather than white so could be an evap. I'd get another test x

KochabRising · 03/03/2018 08:12

Do another FRER with a new test. Today. If that’s positive you need to be seen Monday latest.

Any fever, pain or any signs that could possibly be an ectopic then you go A and E immediately.

What a shock for you :( it does happen - it’s rare but not vanishingly so

FrozenYogurt · 03/03/2018 08:33

I got a positive result from using an out of date test. I wasn't pregnant.

Go and get a new test and do that before you start to panic.

TheShapeofYou · 03/03/2018 08:36

I'm so sorry for you OP but yes that looks positive.

Okay. Off to get a new test today maybe there’s a slim chance it’s wrong.
No I can’t feel the strings but could the mirena come out without me noticing?
The incredible thing is one of my best friends had a mirena baby too. It can’t happen to us both - surely?

BastardGoDarkly · 03/03/2018 09:13

Probably could, yes.

Why is an abortion out of the question op? You sound devastated, like you really dont want this baby?

Flowers
KochabRising · 03/03/2018 09:31

Yes it can. You don’t always notice expulsion - it’s much easier than insertion.

No method is 100% - it’s rare to conceive with one in correctly but not unheard of. The risk rises of poorly inserted.

Use a fresh test - try to hold urine for 4-5 hours if you can before. And getvseen on Monday - your doc will probably want to confirm with a blood test and you can go from there

ineedtochangemynameforthis · 03/03/2018 10:11

I would be even more devastated to go through an abortion - I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I love babies - I wouldn’t have had so many if I didn’t. And if I’m pregnant, when the baby arrives it will be loved and wanted. However - I don’t do pregnancy very well. - It wouldn’t be fair on my other children, I have teenagers doing exams and older DC at Universities ( my eldest would be appalled). After 5 years I had just got my head round having 8. Also I’m now too old really. And you know what - 29 at the primary school gates is just ridiculous
I think the most likely is that the stupid Mirena came out without me noticing and now I’m expecting again.

BrutusMcDogface · 03/03/2018 10:15

Oh god op. Definitely try again with a new test but then make a gp appointment asap. It's such a worry when contraception fails. Flowers

TizzleBizzle · 03/03/2018 10:23

I presume 29 is a typo? I'm 39 at the primary school gates and don't feel old.

If your other DC's/society's opinions didn't worry you, would you have been happy to find out you were pregnant again?

Isadora2007 · 03/03/2018 10:27

I’m hoping “29 at the school gate” was a typo... but even if it was 39 or 49 then that’s not too old at all.

I hope for your sake that it was a false positive but I am confident that if it isn’t false and you are expecting again that your baby would be very lucky to be part of your family.
All the best Flowers

Lucked · 03/03/2018 10:27

I hope you get the result you want. I will be 41 when my youngest starts primary and I am not the oldest by a long way!
