Yesterday morning I felt queasy and knew instantly I was pregnant. DH thought I was nuts as I’ve had the Mirena for about 18months now but I just knew. I tried to see if I could still feel the strings ( I’m not very good at checking) but couldn’t, although that’s not unusual apparently. So I found a test that I bought about 2 years ago and have just done it. It’s positive isn’t it?
The thing is I really really don’t want any more babies - I already have a very large family (8dc) and I’m old. However an abortion is out of the question. I can’t believe this has happened.

Lots of people get pregnancy symptoms with the mirena- but the first test was definitely positive, the only thing is it being out of date might be something. Hope you get what you want.

Tested again this morning to make sure I had the best chance of a clear result and it has come back negative. I am feeling very relieved but will definitely phone the doctor today as this is now the fourth day of uncanny pregnancy symptoms. Also just to check if my mirena is still in place as I cannot feel the strings.
Thank you so much for the lovely posts and hand holds it helped so much and I’m sorry I wasted your time as it was a false alarm.

Oh that's good news so far op. Fingers crossed for you at the docs this morning.

I had a merina fit 3 years before one day it fell out. Just fell out! If I hadn't wiped and found it on the paper I'd have never known. The pharmacist, nurse etc just wouldn't believe it fell out either. X

It's not in the least bit uncommon for them to expel so I would not have much trust in your medics!

I've had 4 Mirenas OP and have never found my strings, so I wouldn't panic too much. If it had expelled, you'd be back to heavy bleeding in a very short space of time. I found it only took 2 months and I was back to the flooding when trying to convince myself I was too old for periods Sad. One went back in very quickly Grin.

KochabRising · 05/03/2018 11:57

I never felt my strings either.

Definitely get checked at the doc, they should be able to check for strings easily and a quick ultrasound can show if it’s placed correctly. I’d also do another test in a few days.

Phew! Glad this one has worked out for you OP. Can we all bemoan the lack of iron clad long term contraceptive options... sigh ...

Great news Smile

Great news OP! You didn't waste my time at all. Hope you get seen by a GP soon and get to the bottom of feeling rough.

I too am petrified of getting of again, so sticking to abstinence Wink
