Bouncingturtle - love the name! So pleased it is going well for you...

Mad4girls - same goes for you. It is lovely to feel them move, isn't it, although in a few weeks you'll be cursing as you get a good boot in the ribs, abdomen or elsewhere that hurts...

Daisy - lovely to have you back - hope your dh is running around after you so you can recover asap. Emily is a beautiful name and she looks gorgeous!

Firststar - or should we rename you "Grand-dame"? - only 6 weeks to go now!!! Have you got YOUR bag packed??

Juicy - congratulations on your new arrival. Your dh's post was really sweet...

Uki - I think you should call your baby what you want, don't change the name because of your friend! No. 2 will be Alexander if it's a boy and one of my close friends has a 7 year old called Alexander and dss' middle name is Alexander too. Dh argued against the name because of this, but I told him that it was the name I wanted and he got to choose ds' name, so I get to choose this one!

Princessjelly - welcome and I hope that the scan confirms that all is okay with your lo... Fingers crossed for you!

EJT - snap on the chocolate front! Only happens when I'm pg as I don't like chocolate normally... Suddenly gone off apples unfortunately - have been eating two a day for the last 4 weeks, I think...

MrsMcJnr - hope the m/w is nice and informative for you. My booking in appointment both times were very brief and a bit disappointing.

Hello to everyone else! Got to get back to work now! MN related interval over!!

MrsMcJnr · 13/06/2007 17:49

Can?t see anything on your page Bouncingturtle ? your excitement is fabulous!

Thanks Firsty it was fine at my appointment hope you have some fun with that Doppler

Daisy ? congratulations hon! Delighted that you are staying with us!

Mad4girls ? it must be lovely to feel so much! I can?t wait!

Ejt ? you are being so brave about the pain and you are entitled to whinge you know! hope today?s a better day.

Princessjellybaby ? welcome! I am so sorry about your loss and your current stress. I have everything crossed for you! x

Uki ? I really hope all goes well with you, I?ll be thinking of you how annoying about the name! use it anyway hon!

Thanks Mumpbump ? my booking in was fine, it was just lots of questions and sore blood withdrawals! I think my body is sick of giving up blood ? she had to try both arms and it really hurt both times but for me it was exciting on principle just being there as its further than I got before sorry, I sound like a real woose with the blood but after having it taken weekly, I do think my veins are getting fed up

Bouncingturtle · 13/06/2007 19:10

Haven't done yet, been really busy MrsMc. Will do it after dinner

DH has just come home with a dozen roses, a box of luxury fudge (my faves!) and a Thank You card saying "Thank you for being our baby's mummy". He's just the best!

MrsMcJnr · 14/06/2007 14:43

Bouncingturtle ? your post made me cry! That was so sweet of your DH!

That?s great Firsty must be really reassuring ? having a better day then the last two but still bleurgh!

Daisyboo ? talk about multi tasking!!

Can we talk ante natal tests? Sorry I am sure you?ve all had this discussion lots of times but did you all opt to have them and if so, to what level did you go? Did anyone decide not to have them at all because they knew that they just couldn?t decide to terminate unless a negative outcome was 100% certain and therefore what was the point in knowing if you were high or low risk?

daisyboo · 14/06/2007 14:44

hi firsty....we're doing great...after an initial wee problem with her latch, got the hang of it now and nips are pain free (never got to that stage at all in the six weeks i breast fed ds). she feeds so well my boobs haven't had a chance to get too engorged. she poos a lot though and we've nicknamed her "stinkypink"....boy does she smell!

need to work on my routine now i'm up and about. DH at home for another two weeks....after that I'm on my own mon-fri with the school run and everything. ds feeling a bit neglected by me as well and being stroppy, but we'll get there!!

daisyboo · 14/06/2007 14:52

mrsmc...we opted for no testing, deciding we would deal with whatever we had to when the time came. Even so, the wait til the 20 wk scan was bit fraught. Although the scan showed no genetic markers for downs etc, I was still concerned which got worse in the run up to her birth. The first thing I asked DH once we were settled in recovery was whether he thought she looked ok (her face was a bit puffy and squashed), and got in a bit of a state, so he asked for the paediatrician to check her out to set my mind at rest, and of course she is fine.

I'm glad we didn't have any testing though as it wouldn't have influenced the outcome of the pregnancy for us and we didn't think the stress of tests and results and possibly amnio would be helpful. It's a difficult decision though and I don't envy you having to make it.

MrsMcJnr · 14/06/2007 15:05

Thanks Daisy that really helps. DH is keen not to have any tests for the same reasons as you. I am still trying to weigh it all up. We don't get 20 week scans up here, just a dating scan but I think I would like a detailed one later on to put my mind at rest even if we don't opt to test. It seems an age between 14 weeks and birth not to see how your baby is progressing.

Jossiejump · 14/06/2007 15:12

Hi I need help regarding triple blood tests, my result has come back high risk 1 in 55, don't want amnio because of 3 m/cs, have always said I wouldn't terminate anyway, I am being stupid not to have amnio?

Glimmer · 14/06/2007 15:18

Hi Jossie.

Wow you are already 16 weeks!!! I am very sorry to hear that you got a 'high risk' from the triple test back. They are known notoriously for given wrong positives result, i.e., you get a high risk although you shouldn't.

I think either a quadruple test (I am not sure if it is too late for that one -- I had it done at week 12 instead of the triple test at week 16.) or a nuchal scan will give you more information without being invasive. I would ask for a detailed scan (with nuchal?) looking for soft markers. Depending on the result you can take further tests but if they tell you they cannot find soft markers, then you will be more relaxed.

Chances are very high, that this is an unnecessary scare, so please, try to see it in this context.

Hope you'll get a scan as soon as possible,
possibly privately?!

Glimmer · 14/06/2007 15:25

Well, Jossie, after re-reading your post, I would like to rephrase my previous post. If you know you wouldn't terminate in any case, then
I wouldn't opt for amnio.

It is up to you if you feel you would like to know as much as possible what the chances are or if you would be happy to wait and see. If you would like to have more certainty, ask for a a detailed scan.

Don't let anybody pressure you into an amnio unless you want it! Chances in my opinion are very high, that you baby is absolutely fine
(it's only a 2% chance in a test that is known to give a lot of false positives, so that some experts advocate not to have it any longer.)

Sorry, I am going a little in circles here, am
lurking arounf but am too exhausted after move etc to make any sense...

Thinking of you...

daisyboo · 14/06/2007 16:46

just caught sight of this thread and thought someone on here might be able to offer some wrds of advice/encouragement. poor belissa

Evening all ...

I have been madly sorting out my baby stuff (and everything else!) to put on ebay for the past couple of days - am just about to upload 50 lots! If you see anything on there you fancy, just let me know - am happy to finish auctions early for MN friends! (my ebay id is the same as my mn id - I am a bear of very little brain, and couldn't think of a different one!)

princess - hiya and welcome - here's hoping this is a long and uneventful pg for you!

uki - I agree with the others, I'd just use the name too ... we've got a similar (but opposite in a way problem) - we really like the name Sioned, but DH's cousin (the one who has has brain cancer) had a little boy called Sion who died about 10 years ago just before his 2nd birthday. Much as we like the name, we just couldn't use it, as it would be too painful for DH's cousin and his partner.
By choosing the same name as you, you are just showing what great taste you both have!

firststar - thanks for the advice on the cushions and gym ball ... I have 2 wedge cushions with coccyx cutouts (one for in the car, one to carry around the house!), and my gym ball is out, but they are just not doing the trick - however, the pain today is nowhere near as bad as earlier in the week - it defintely seems worse after the activity of the weekend!

MrsMc - I'm glad your booking appointment went well.

Bouncingturtle - what a complete star your dh is!

jossie - I have no advice, just hugs for you!

Right, going to upload everything onto ebay ....

Bouncingturtle · 14/06/2007 19:54

Hellow everyone, hope we are all well!
turtle
Link to scan pic at last.

Oh and if you aren't aware, very good idea to photocopy or scan your photos when you get them - they do fade after a while.
As for antenatal tests, we want them but I don't think I'll have an amnio. If there is going to be a problem with the baby, unless it is so bad the baby has little chance of survival, I will not consider a termination. But if it is found that there is something wrong, I would like the opportunity to prepare for it by doing some background research into care that would be needed and support that would be available.
Princess - a belated welcome and {{{hugs}}} from me!
MrsMc - glad your booking in went well, keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you (and everyone else).
EJT - poor you, you really are suffering
Jossie - 1 in 55 aren't the worse odds in the world, I would try not to let yourself get to stressed (easier said than done I know!) I've read too that the triple test can be misleading as well. Don't blame you for not wanting the amnio. Does your local hospital offer a nuchal scan? Mine does but they charge you £150 for the privilege .
Hello to everyone else and Stinkypink

BellaBear · 14/06/2007 21:05

Oh thank goodness I can get back on here! The pregnancy section seems to have been down for the last hour!

Hello! (Just wanted to say that)

becklespeckledfrog · 14/06/2007 21:31

Hello All
Have figured it out and put pic of my little tadpole on my profile!
Bouncingturtle glad your scan went well too, how is the brown stuff now? Hope it has stopped. I know it is hard not to worry but please try not to ? I had a big red bleed at 14 weeks with DS1, very scary but he is a big noisy almost 7 year old now! Bless your DH too ? what a sweetie. Might have to drop a hint to mine that I need some luxury fudge too? just starting to fancy sweet stuff again!
MrsMc how are you hun? Glad things seem to be going well for you! Time seems to be passing very quickly at the moment and it will soon be time for your next scan. Very that you are only just getting cellulite! Despite being a slim girlie I have had the blasted stuff since I was 16! Grrr? It is hard when you get to the point it all went wrong before and I hope Monday was okay for you. I am coming up to the point where my first baby died and to put it mildly I am bricking it! Especially as I have lost my ?starving-ness? and feeling bit better in the evenings too ? of course the rational side of my brain tells me that is because I am 12 weeks now and supposed to start feeling better but the panicky side is just panicking. Really exhausted this week though. Ouch for the bloods! Not surprised your veins are getting fed up!
With regards to tests and things it is obviously a personal choice. I have always had the blood tests done because I think forewarned is fore-armed. If my tests came up with a high risk of Downs (for instance) I don?t think I would have any invasive procedures like Amnio but I would make sure I found out plenty of info and prepared myself. It would have to be a pretty serious problem which would affect baby?s life quality to make me terminate. Does that help?
BIG congrats to Juicy! Well done!
Daisy, lovely to have you still hanging around with a real live bundle of squidgy cuteness!
Mad4Girls is a lovely feeling when you feel those first flutters! I am sure I have felt mine a couple of times although I know it is very early. A friend of mine was a nurse and did a lot of ante-natal stuff and she insists with 2nd, 3rd (and so on) pgs some people can feel it early. It feels fluttery but very very low. Someone on the Due in Dec thread (I think) said its impossible this early but it is far to low for wind and it is reassuring me so what the hell! Really looking forward to feeling real movements though, that?s the second best bit about being pregnant (the best being the baby you get at the end!).
Ejt, so sorry you are hurting hun, I can?t imagine how you are coping.
Hi PrincessJellybelly, how was your scan today? Hope it gave you good news and you saw your little jellybean. Sorry to hear of your past m/c . I too had bleeding and pain at 5 weeks this time and the MW told me it was the tadpole burrowing a bit deeper into the womb, my friend was told the same and I like that idea.
Uki, how exciting that you are starting to prepare for babe?s arrival! I love that bit, washing all the little clothes and blankets ? sigh. As for the name, I would use it anyway if you like it ? its very hard to find a name you love and by the sounds of it yours is slightly different to your friend?s anyway (or did I get that wrong?). Hope all your tests go well!
Firststar, glad LO got hiccups! Very reassuring. Perhaps you are having a very chilled out baby this time!
JossieJump, I don?t think you are daft not to have the Amnio at all, I probably wouldn?t either. 1 in 55 sounds high but it still means that in 55 babies 54 would be fine. In your position I think I would just prepare myself in case I got an extra special baby.
Hi to Mumpbump, Plummy, Glimmer, Bellabear and everyone else ? hows it going?

daisyboo · 14/06/2007 21:47

I thought it was just me couldn't see it Bellabear, but obviously not!

BellaBear · 14/06/2007 21:52

there were threads complaining!

Well I'm past the timing of my mc which is making me feel better! GP appt on Monday morning. Had a tiny spot of blood when wiping but it looks more like I've got a tiny cut or something down there - maybe I rubbed too hard?? It isn't mucusy so I don't think it is anything to worry about (easier said than done, I know!) Been having really bad insomnia this week, has this happened to anyone? Was sent home from school on Tuesday as was just a wreck, have never been good without sleep, god know what will happen when a baby is keeping me awake all night (but won't have to spend the next day with class loads of teenagers so quite different!)

daisyboo · 14/06/2007 22:13

bella....maybe tmi, but with the constipation i had early on, i was getting bleeding from my bum.....it could be something like that.

So happy you've got past that major psychological milestone. try to stay focussed and relaxed and i hope the next few weeks are uneventful
