I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

You can buy ranitidine OTC really cheaply :)

It was awful lucinda and I think instrumental in my decision to stop putting up with stuff so much. We put up with so much - all the vomiting and the discomfortvand still working and cleaning and getting in with it. Because people seem to be quite opposed to the idea that pregnancy can be a bit crap.
Without wishing to sound too wanky about it, my first pregnancy and the experience of that plus how I was treated at work and frankly in life generally as a -vessel- pregnant woman/mother has been a transformative experience. Only I’ve turned into a slightly angry rather radical feminist who has had enough of this shit.

Forward sisters! First we storm the obstetric wards, then we take government !

Hi All,

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet... just really down 😔 I’m coming up to 10 weeks now and it’s almost 3 weeks since I’ve left the house (other than to go to the docs). I didn’t end up going to A&E as I convinced myself I’d be wasting people’s time (funny what HG does to your mentality isn’t it) On a plus note I’m managing to keep more down now but that is mainly because I am trying not to move around!. When I’m at my absolute worst and struggling with fluids I’m just sucking ice cubes (which still makes me retch but the liquid does stay down) Due back to work Monday as sick note runs out but will most likely be ringing to get it extended. The more I try and do the more I seem to relapse. Managed some mashed potato last night and some pasta just now. Small victories!

How is everyone doing?

hotchocolate86 · 03/03/2018 18:12

I think thats a plan ana.

Hi sleepy I’m glad you’re keeping a bit more down. What meds are you on?

I’m feeling pretty sick right now but not due any tablets for another 2 hours. I wish I could take them every 6 hours rather than every 8 as I think that would help a lot.

nailsathome · 03/03/2018 18:17

I went into town and had my eyebrows threaded for the first time in 8 weeks woohoo!

I saw some kids whom I teach and now I feel bad that they've seen I'm well enough to be out but I won't be at work on Monday.

Foodylicious · 03/03/2018 18:32

Spent most of the day in bed after feeling really sick and taking an extra promethazine.

Just taken my 3yo to s friends round the corner for tea. I am sooo tired. Just sat there and didn't say or play much but it was nice to see them.
My stomach just feels so uncomfortable and like it's churning the whole time.

That and my ibs/constipation isn't brilliant so lots of stomach pain there too.
Home now and on the sofa.
Bath and bed for us next I think.

RockinRobinn · 03/03/2018 22:46

Hello everyone so after having a few days of sweet relief after having acupuncture last week, my nausea and vomiting returned with a vengeance so I ended up spending yesterday afternoon in hospital having IV fluids, vitamins and odanestron. Not feeling as dehydrated today but been sick a few times and the odanestron tablets didn't seem to do anything.
Feeling really down today as I've had to take a week off work and I'm self-employed but I'm more worried about if I'll be able to go back after next week 😢 All in all just feeling a bit sorry for myself and thinking please let next week be a bit better as I'm 12 weeks on Wednesday. I'm not feeling very optimistic about that though as everything just seems to be getting worse.
Glad a few of you are managing a bit better in terms of keeping more down hopefully onwards and upwards for you! Drawing on all of your strength and advice at the moment.

RockinRobinn · 03/03/2018 22:49

Also @SleepyBadger I thought I was being a bit OTT going to the hospital but my doctor advised it as I was feeling dizzy. If you're feeling so poorly do go the extra fluids have made a big difference to my skin and how clear my mind is.
I was lucky that the doctors and nurses I saw were understanding although if I didn't have a heart rate of 130bpm at rest not sure if they would've done as much as I had no ketones in my urine.

Boredoftryingusernames · 04/03/2018 08:30

Rockin sorry to hear that you have been so sick, I hope you are feeling better today. Really good to hear that you got fluids despite not having ketones - a battle I didn't win with our hospital! Getting those on board rather than 'playing catch up' with your fluid levels should really help!

Sleepy sorry things have been so grim still, good to hear of the small food victories though - plain pasta and mashed potato got me through those awful weeks too. I hope that you are coming towards a point that things start at least easing off a bit (hopefully a lot!) for you.

Foody I hope today is a better day, well done for getting out to a friend's house though.

SleepyBadger · 04/03/2018 08:35

Hot choc - it’s cyclizine I’m currently on but not finding it does much for me. There’s about 10 minutes after waking up in the morning where I feel remotely human then bam the nausea kicks in and it’s vom city for the rest of the day! It’s definately worse in the evenings for me though it seems to get progressively worse throughout the day!

Rockin - Sorry to hear you have relapsed. HG is sneaky like that sometimes, just when you think you are making progress it comes back to bite you. Hope you are feeling a little more human after I’ve fluids and meds.

Enough is enough today after 3 weeks stuck in the house I’m forcing myself to get up and out with hubby and the kids today....armed with my sick kit. I may not get far but it’s a bit of a test really. I’m mostly worried about how weak and dizzy I’m feeling. If I cope with today ok and it doesn’t result in a relapse of epic proportions I’ll try and drag myself to work tomorrow. If not I’ll be ringing the doc to extend my sick note. Wish me luck!

Boredoftryingusernames · 04/03/2018 08:39

P.S. Sleepy please don't attempt work this week, sounds like you still need to rest lots!

Boredoftryingusernames · 04/03/2018 08:40

Sleepy cross post there, sorry! Hope today goes ok - good luck!! Still think you should give work a miss though....

Herecomesanotherone2018 · 04/03/2018 11:05

Hi everyone, I have what may be a really really stupid question Blush

I've had approx 90 ondansetron tablets now, all from the same pharmacy.

On Wednesday I got my prescription filled out somewhere else, and although it's obviously still ondansetron, the packaging and shape of the tablets is different. Ever since, I've felt really, really unwell. The nausea is so severe I can hardly move and I'm being sick a bit again.

I've had about 3 weeks where it's been manageable and I've felt almost normal again, so this has hit me like a ton of bricks tbh!

Could it be the "different" tablets? Like I said, It's probably a stupid question as ondansetron is ondansetron I suppose! It just seems like a coincidence.

Foodylicious · 04/03/2018 12:00

It shouldn't make a difference in theory, but it can.

Def worth getting another prescription and getting the brand you had before.

RockinRobinn · 04/03/2018 12:47

@Herecomesanotherone2018 I've heard this happening with other medications when people change brands, maybe call the pharmacist and see if there is anything they can do or if you need to get another prescription.

LostMyBaubles · 04/03/2018 14:09

Hiii everyone

Really sorry about the absence.

Fell off my active convos and not managed to get back on.

Hope everyone is managing to keep something down

Im almost 14weeks. Baby is doing good. My nasuea calmed down a lot for about 10days and then was back full force.
So started taking my meds again

Lil pic for you lot. Any guesses on gender?

Hyperemesis Support
RockinRobinn · 04/03/2018 14:32

@LostMyBaubles how very exciting to have had your first scan. Glad to hear you had a window of feeling better but sorry to hear that the sickness has returned Sad
As for guesses for what the gender may be I read on one of the other forums if there is a white line on the belly then it's a girl. Not sure how accurate it is though!
So I'm guessing a girl Grin

LostMyBaubles · 04/03/2018 14:51

Thank you robin. Was actually my 4th scan lol
4th scan. 4th child too lol
Had 2 scans very early around 6 and 7 weeks then another around 10weeks then one last week.

I have 3 boys and they really want a sister. Told them I cant promise anything lol

RockinRobinn · 04/03/2018 15:00

Is this the first one you got a picture with or did you go privately before?
I had a scan at about 6 weeks on the NHS but didn't get a picture, although there wasn't much to see to the untrained eye!
Well I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's a girl xx

LostMyBaubles · 04/03/2018 15:27

Thank you.
Its the first pic one as the others were in epu and wasnt offered a pic. Would have liked one at the 10 week scan as it was so clear!

SleepyBadger · 04/03/2018 15:59

Lost - lovely pic of baby 👍☺️ I’m not good at guessing gender/nub theory I’m afraid. Are you finding out at 20 weeks or having a private gender scan earlier? I had a scan at 16 weeks with my son and they were able to tell me straight away. Mind you my consultant did tell me at 12 weeks he was 99.9% certain baby was a boy too which I thought was amazing so early!

Bored - thanks. I made it to my local shopping centre with hubby and the kids. Walked round pushing the buggy for a bit but felt like I was pushing a ton of bricks I felt so weak so hubby took over. Managed a fruit cooler drink from costa but the nausea became unbearable so I sat in the car whilst hubby finished the shopping. I feel very deflated. My work is office/desk based but I still worry how ill cope and put a brave face on whilst feeling so shocking. Last 2 pregs I’ve had 4+ weeks off with HG and didn’t rush myself back I just feel guilty having had 12 months mat leave then signed off sick straight away! They must be really loving me at the moment!

hotchocolate86 · 04/03/2018 18:17

foody how are you feeling today? Well done for getting out and about.

lost that’s a lovely scan photo. I’m sorry your symptoms have reappeared.

I’m sorry to hear so many people are suffering today. I hope everyone starts to pick up soon.

I have been sick about 10 times today and feeling really rough. I’ve been in bed all afternoon. My ketones are fine at the moment though so no need to visit the hospital yet. I’ve eaten a bit of food but I’m not sure if much has stayed down.

LucindaE · 04/03/2018 20:06

SleepyBadger Mother Hen flaps and clucks and agrees with bored. You must not rush back to work. Ten weeks is the worst time for so many. You didn't sound as if you were up to the trip to town. You are being hard on yourself, and shouldn't be. There is no point in forcing yourself in, only to stagger home. Cyclizine doesn't seem to be strong enough. Do you think that you could ring Pregnancy Sickness Support for advice on how to get stronger meds? As you've suffered every time it's so unfair. Do try on 024 7638 2020. They will have to ring you back, but will give good advice. Rant over. Wink
hotchocolate That sounds awful. I am glad no ketones are showing. Are ice cubes not bearable? Poor you. Flowers
LostmyBaubles Lovely picture. I was going to say girl, before I read that about a white line. Welcome back. Sorry about a relapse. At least, if you have some good days, it is often the sign of the turnaround. Sensible to go back on the meds.
bored I think I must add mashed potato to the saf(ish) list of foods to try! I had a terrible experience with re-appearing pasta bake I have never forgotten in all these years - well, anyway, these days I can eat it again! Some do find it good. Great advice from you and others.
Nails Well done on eyebrows! I am sure it gave you a boost.
RockinRobin I am so glad that they took you seriously despite a lack of ketones. I hope you feel a lot better. Did they give you any new drugs?
Herecomes I have heard of that too - I don't exactly know how it works, but with that quick deterioration it certainly seems as if the other form did much more for you. It certainly seems worth phoning to ask.
Foodylicious I scrawled a message for you, and can't read it; typical!
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. Watch me cross post.

@LucindaE yes I think because my heart rate was so high and my blood pressure was all over the shop so the doctor just said we will do this before they even tested my urine. West Middlesex hospital is generally very good though waited a while in a&e but who can complain when they give you the care you actually need. They've given me odenastron tablets as that's what they gave me through the IV. They don't seem to be doing much though hence me being awake answering now as I sit by the loo Confused I'm going to persevere with them though I don't know if they can build up in your system once you've taken a few doses?

Natsku · 05/03/2018 04:15

Ooo scan pic Lost! No idea of what sex, rubbish at guessing but hope it's a girl that your boys want.

That's really good care from that hospital Rockin so nice to hear of good care in this thread when sadly so often people are not being cared for properly by the doctors. My health centre was good too, they gave me fluids both times I went based on my appearance (dry mouth, non-elastic skin etc.) and me saying I was dehydrated, rather than bothering with ketones.

Sleepy you need to still be off work, you're clearly not well enough to go back!

Sending strength to you all - remember, it does end eventually! It's just like a bad dream to me now, if it wasn't for this thread to remind me, I'd probably start thinking "Oh it wasn't that bad..." Grin
