I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

GP appointment booked for tomorrow morning. Really hoping they take it seriously and sign me off for thus week at least... I'm a secondary school teacher so there is no option of sitting still at a desk and running to the loo to heave when needed. At the moment I still have the constant nausea and am only able to move about in a crouched, bent double shuffle because standing upright makes everything worse.

And yes to showers - I can't bear to think about showering at all, I will just have to be smelly and greasy a couple of days more.

nailsathome · 20/02/2018 09:51

Boss I'm also a secondary teacher. Currently on my 3rd week off and I can't face going back any time soon.

Worried67202 · 20/02/2018 10:47

I feel so sad for those of you having to worry about work as well as HG, I am due back from maternity leave in 2 weeks and praying I feel better by then.

Got to agree about showers, I can only sit down in the bath, still not a fun experience but better than showers.

BossWitch · 20/02/2018 11:22

nails what was your doctor like with signing you off? I'm really hoping for a few weeks as well. I just can't imagine being in the classroom. Yet my last pregnancy I was fine, only ever felt ill in the evenings, so work was no problem. This time... no way.

nailsathome · 20/02/2018 11:33

I was signed off by the dr at the hospital. I've left a message with my gp about it so we'll see what she says when I call back tomorrow. I'm back at the hospital for another scan on Thursday so hopefully they'll do it again if she doesn't.

I'm struggling to set cover let alone plan, mark, teach, meetings, cpd etc.

BossWitch · 20/02/2018 11:41

I'm not setting cover. Put a thread up on here about it and got a universal 'Don't do it' response which helped with the guilt. Mind you I still got a snotty text from my hod last night about it. Sent me off into tears and my dh replied for me in the end, stating rather more firmly than I would have that I was not capable and would not be setting any cover work. Strangely I got a much more polite reply from my male hod after that.

hotchocolate86 · 20/02/2018 11:45

I can’t keep anything down again today. I’m feeling very sorry for myself.

hotchocolate86 · 20/02/2018 11:46

boss and nails I hope you both get all the time off you need.

BossWitch · 20/02/2018 12:49

Thanks hotchoc. Hope you manage to keep something down later today.

I've just managed to eat a small tin of mandarins - took me about 45 mins to get through it but seems ok so far. At least I feel like I've had something with a vitamin in now. Last night I managed about 8 forkfuls of rice and then gave up. I miss food!

If we could sell this as a bloody diet we'd make a fortune Angry

Boredoftryingusernames · 20/02/2018 13:21

BossWitch ha ha - yes totally - want to lose a stone in a week or two.....?! Well done for getting some fruit into you, I had a few peas mixed in some rice the other night, but no other fruit or vegetable for 6 weeks!!
Hope those needing time off get it with no issues. Thankfully both Dr and my work have been very good in this respect - no way I could have worked as a vet the last month - too many smells/triggers, operating would not have been pretty!!
Hotchocolate sorry you are feeling awful again, what dose of ondansetron have they put you on? Hope your scan is ok today.
Sleepy your GP sounds frustrating, pleased you have other meds, but with high ketones and feeling so awful I think you need more help. Did you manage to get any ketostix? I'd be tempted to bypass them and go to A&E, esp if your ketones are 3+. I really hope the new meds are helping though.
Thinking of you all!

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 20/02/2018 14:38

I'm so much better today, I've had three doses of cyclizine and it must really be helping. I've eaten two cheese sandwiches today! And drank water and milk. I'm like a different person.

Sorry to hear that you're having another tough day hotchocolate.

I've picked up upthread that breastfeeding can be linked to a return of symptoms. Where can I read more about that?

Anatidae · 20/02/2018 14:59

ecaterina I’m sure you mean well but most of the women on this thread are vomiting to the point of exhaustion, throat tears and malnutrition. Mint tea is going to do the square root of bugger all, and we are all mightily sick of being told about nice natural remedies (just try ginger! Try these acupuncture bands!) it’s frankly insulting to women to belittle their symptoms this way

Hyperemesis is a debilitating and potentially life threatening condition. We need drugs and drips, not soul feeding soups. Please don’t go jack this thread to promote your blog or business, it’s distasteful

seizethecuttlefish · 20/02/2018 15:12

To everyone having trouble with their work and getting signed off etc. I've been off work since October. I'm incredibly lucky that my work have a great sickness policy. That said, no one has been in touch and I suddenly realised that I'm just a number. Your health and baby are what matters. I'm due to start my mat leave at the beginning of April and I won't be back before that. Please don't feel guilty about it.
I also have a lovely stool for the shower. I have it much cooler than I normally would and find I have to have a lie down for a wee while after. This pregnancy thing is so rocky roll!
Sleepy sympathise with the retching. I take cyclizine and ondansetron and it seems to work. Hope you get something that helps.
Had my GTT today and survived! No GD thankfully and feeling pretty good today.
Hugs to all Thanks

TwoDrifters · 20/02/2018 16:01

Hear hear Anatidae if only it were as simple as sipping some tea!

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 20/02/2018 16:15

My GP mentioned ginger yesterday... Luckily for him he was prescribing cyclizine at the same time or it might have got nasty Grin

LucindaE · 20/02/2018 16:41

Happy Dance from Mother Hen! My PC is back home. Grin
Ekaterinabrady As Anitidae says, thank you for your message and I am sure it is well intentioned, but sadly this condition is not going to be cured by a cup of mint tea or health foods.Everyone on here will have tried all those sort of remedies and before they went on to take anti emetics because nobody wants to take medications when pregnant unless she has to, even though they may be proven safe.
BossWitch and nails My goodness, I do feel for teachers. An exchuasting job anyway. I do hope you get signed off.
nails Did you see that two other women have come on, excpecting twins? Never had that before. Exciting. It's awful, being bed bound, particularly for anyone active.Audio books can really help pass the time, and the radio, and if you can stand looking at a screen, many swear by Netflix. I could stand looking at print on and off, and though I didn't suffer for very long compared to most, I did read 'War and Peace' and to this day, even the title makes me feel unwell.
Somebody I do hope the meds help. It is such an invidious situation to be in, and I wish I knew more about legisalation and part time work. Is it a small workplace which can by-pass some employment legislation? I am not sure even then they are allowed to penalise women off work through suffering from pregnancy related conditions. I'm wondering if the Pregnancy Sickness Support people on 024 7638 2020 could help with advice. They will have to ring you back, but all are agreed that they are brilliant. Obviously, you don't want to have to scrape along on some small sum from the government unless you have to .

hotchocolate Really sorry the vomiting is back. Much sympathy over the previous miscarriages. I only had one and they spoil everything (even more than Hyperemesis, if that seems possible).
Seize I am so that that you got through that dreaded test. It's good that your workplace has a good sickness plan.
So should every workplace, says the ex-union rep. How does it help productivity to have people too ill to be efficient dragging themselves in?
SleepyBadger I am so glad that you got meds, but it is awful that you had to cry until you retched to get it. Hugs. Don't worry about not taking LO - it's meant to be best if their father takes them - a bit of male insensitivity helps there; he's more likely to assume they'll love it and they sense that he thinks it's fine, and it gives them confidence.
Natsku As others say, I hope they investigate that pain just to be safe. A couple of women I was in hospital with complained of a similar pain a few days after birth, and had it investigated, and no cause was found, and it went off gradually. I hope it is the same with you.
Worried In the circumstances, surely you will be able to be signed off?
I have a couple of scrawled messages I stupidly can't decipher. Waves to all. I'm off to find the Due Dates list to update. Back soon.

somebody glad to hear you are feeling better today. That’s great news.
A stool for the shower is a great idea. I wonder if I can hold of one of them.
I am on 4mg of ondansetron every 8 hours. At The hospital today I was prescribed cyclizine to take in between times and also lactulose. On the plus side the scan went well. The baby is measuring exactly what we were expecting so that’s a positive sign.

LucindaE · 20/02/2018 16:54

I hope LostmyBaubles is OK - no word from her from some time- and also Spiders and others.
BossWitch Good news about mandarines.I swear by that tinned fruit and its juice, particularly peaches and pears. It was brave of you to try rice - it is not nice if it does the Magical Hyperemesis Reappearing Trick.

Somebody ... And that is great news about cheese sandwiches.
Apologies to anyone missed.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 20/02/2018 17:13

Thank you for your kind words LucindaE it's so lovely to have someone listening. I've just had a quick look at the government website and it says you must earn over £113 per week to claim ssp. I earn about £102 per week Sad I know that everyone's circumstances are different and that might not sound a lot to some people but it pays our mortgage and some bills. When we planned for another baby it didn't include this!

Mustang27 · 20/02/2018 17:29

Mint tea and soup!!! I'd have given a limb if either of those things would have worked. Also I did try mint tea and it was bloody awful second time round!!!

But wait have you all tried ginger so much better than being hydrated Hmm.

Well done Anatidae.

Congrats on baby measuring well hot chocolate.

Shehz21 · 20/02/2018 18:11

Mustang Hey there!
I am doing..ok.. I guess.
It's quite horrible without the Phenergan but trying to stay away from the thread as don't want to discourage the newbies that this is common in 3rs trimester. Especially towards the end. I think I am just really unlucky.

Waves to Lucinda. Hope you are doing good Mama Hen. Yay 2nd on the list. Can't believe I am all the way up there. Still remember when I was last in the due date list.

SleepyBadger · 20/02/2018 18:52

Well said Anatidae....mint tea, why didn’t we think of that genius 🙄😂

Somebody - can’t believe your GP gingered you, I think I’d have been tempted to poke him in the eye for that! Also hurrah for cheese sandwiches! I managed a slice of dry toast and a babybel today 🙌. Small victory!

My due date is October 3rd...I’m only 8 weeks and HG is already kicking my butt..it’s a long way to go but I got this! 💪
