I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I've quickly read through the thread - still no pc and typing this in the library.
Welcome to Worried and IsThisMummy. IsThisMummy Congratulations on twins. Fancy that! Three lots of twins at the same time on this thread. That's the number we've had in about eight years before! Take comfort, the others suffered badly but it didn't seem to last as long as average - maybe they would have escaped Hyperemesis with a singleton? IsThisMummy Do make an emergency appointment to ask for other meds. You must be dehydrated already, and a pregnant woman not keeping down fluids for 48 hours is a medical emergency. I don't know if you have kesostix which are useful to show how ill you are , though as others say, maybe no or very scanty dark coloured urine, dry skin and mouth, feeling muddled, headache, blurry vision etc are the way to tell you need to go to get fluids.
Worried I hope you got relief for your bowels? Do get treatment for it, as Idon't want to be alarmist but some on here have ended up with 'impacted stools' through 'not wanting to make a fuss'. I have heard the safe enemas online are really effective.
Emu Congratulations. {star] GrinFlowers. Welcome to the famous Pink Castle. Isn't it nice here? So glad all turned out OK.
hotchocolate Poor you, you must have felt terrible. I hope they give you really good treatment.
Somebody That's an awful position to be in, but it really is asking too much of anyone with Hyperemesis to work in a coffee shop. Did you say the firm don't offer sick pay? If that is so, can one claim sick pay from the state if signed off, as you really need to be? Excuse my ignorance, the laws have changed since I knew all this stuff as a union rep.
Endorra I remember that is when I felt that 'feathery stroking' too. Some people do feel it really early.
Anitidae That is awful about the lack of liquids offered. Barbaric.
We haven't heard from Baubles of late. I hope she is OK.
I am really sorry to ignore lots of people, but I am being kicked off the PC at the library. I do hope I get mine fixed soon, and everybody is coping. Waves to Shehz, Bored and everyone . I too am thinking of justheone.

I’m home now. I’ve had four bags of fluids and come home with a prescription for ondansetron. I feel very weak and tired but a lot better than before I went in. I have a scan booked for tomorrow so fingers crossed all is looking ok.

hotchocolate86 · 19/02/2018 14:23

How is everyone today?

BossWitch · 19/02/2018 14:36

Can I join? I'm 6 weeks ish. Have spent the last four days in bed with constant nausea, dizziness, generally feeling like absolute shit. Didn't have this with the last pregnancy and it's kind of blind sided me. Have tried to get gp appointment but been told I have to call back tomorrow. There's also the potential added complication that I was taking antidepressants up until a week and a half ago so I don't know if the withdrawal from that is making a difference.

Hopefully I can get an appointment with a doctor booked for weds and they will actually be sympathetic - I'm quite scared I'll be told to buck up and get on with it as I've only had one instance of vomiting, otherwise it's just constant nausea.

Natsku · 19/02/2018 15:58

Fingers crossed for you BossWitch that you get an appointment with an understanding doctor and get some help. Print out pages from the pregnancy sickness support website linked on the first page of this thread to show the doctor if you feel they are reluctant to help.

Hope everything goes ok at the scan tomorrow hotchocolate glad you've got onandsetron now and plenty of fluids in you.

I'm having horrible upper belly/chest pain that I don't think is normal postpartum pain. I asked the midwife about it today when she came to weigh Mr. Justice but she hadn't a clue what it might be - any ideas? It started at the weekend, is ok in the mornings but starts getting worse in the afternoon and was horrid last night.

hotchocolate86 · 19/02/2018 16:13

@Natsku You’ve probably considered this but could it possibly be indigestion? I get pains in my upper belly and chest with indigestion. Often I can feel it in my back as well or I will feel a bit gassy with it.

Natsku · 19/02/2018 16:22

It doesn't seem to be worse after eating so don't think it is.

Anatidae · 19/02/2018 16:31

Pre eclampsia can come on after birth so just get that ruled out!

Natsku · 19/02/2018 16:42

Well I had my blood pressure checked on Friday when I was getting my iron infusion and it was low so no high blood pressure at least, nor headaches or vision issues. I think I'll try and get a doctor appointment tomorrow if it gets worse again tonight.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 19/02/2018 16:47

Thanks for being so understanding LucindaE it's nice to hear someone else say it. I may qualify for statutory sick pay but as I'm only a part time worker I'm sure it will be a pittance. I don't think I can put myself in that situation again though.

In other more positive news I just saw a very understanding GP who has prescribed cyclezine and omeprazole. I told him how nice it was to be taken seriously. He also wants my urine dipped for ketones which seems sensible. It's so sad to hear that not everyone is getting treated this way, it should be basic.

Endora44 · 19/02/2018 17:07

natsku is the upper belly pain in the middle or to one side? it could be gallstones, I had that after my first was born, I was sure it was an extension of HG which made no sense because I wasn't breastfeeding, and then my ankles got swollen and I went to do a kidney scan and they found gallstones instead!

Mustang27 · 19/02/2018 17:26

Could it be gall bladder pain @Natsku very common in coeliac sufferers mines was a mess and I had to get it out years ago. Pregnancy can cause flare ups or the symptoms to worsen.

Natsku · 19/02/2018 17:30

It's right in the middle.

BossWitch · 19/02/2018 18:01

Thanks for the advice Natsku. I'll definitely get those pages printed. Hope you're ok and you get the pain identified.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 19/02/2018 18:36

Natsku I have severe reflux, and even though I it doesn't feel like heartburn it's just at the top of my tummy and is apparently the inflammation from the acid. Probably something completely different but that's my experience :)

nailsathome · 19/02/2018 18:47

My gp has no appointments this week Hmmand I can't get out of bed without the room swimming!

I'm really struggling with being bed bound. I need to be up and doing things!

Natsku definitely get it checked out, as others have said it could be any number of things.

Hot choc how are you now? Have the fluids and meds helped?

hotchocolate86 · 19/02/2018 19:19

Hi nails it’s so frustrating not to be able to get in and see your doctor. We often have to wait 3 weeks here. Can you request a call back? They may see you after talking to you.
I am still feeling queasy but I have managed not to be sick since yesterday although it’s been touch and go at times. Tonight I was actually a bit hungry and had 2 chicken goujons and a couple of spoonfuls of mash. I’m really hoping they stay down. I’m completely exhausted though. I had a shower when I got back and had to just sit on the bathroom floor after to recover so I could get dressed. I also find I have to do everything really slowly as moving too quick makes the nausea and retching/vomiting kick in. Does anyone else find that?

Boredoftryingusernames · 19/02/2018 19:38

I've had to build myself up to showers as I always feel terrible afterwards and either vomit or have to sit down on the floor too. Glad you've managed to eat something hotchocolate really hope it stays down. Not sure if you had issues with ondansetron last time, but don't forget about the potential for constipation (TMI but I have not had a good afternoon in that respect....!).
Nails our GP has no appointments for weeks either but we can call on the day for a call back and then hopefully be seen. Hope they can sort something out for you.

Foodylicious · 19/02/2018 19:46

Oh no nails that's just not good enough

Can you call the surgery again tomorrow and ask if your only option is 111 then?
Seems ridiculous that you might have to see a gp you don't know

Anatidae · 19/02/2018 19:47

I always feel dreadful after showers too. I normally love a shower but I’m struggling just now

Foodylicious · 19/02/2018 19:49

I'm nowhere near actually ill yet hotchoc but yes, moving makes the nausea wash over me and lots of unexpected belching and retching.
Had fun trying to hide this at work today.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 19/02/2018 19:54

Showering brings in a retching episode for me hotchocolate. Also getting into bed and lying down.

nailsathome · 19/02/2018 20:31

Showers are a problem for me too. I get really bad dizziness along with the nausea and have fainted a few times. It's particularly bad after a shower.

SleepyBadger · 20/02/2018 08:40

Hi everyone - hope everyone is doing ok today.

Well i saw the gp again yesterday and after a bit of a crying outburst from me (which then set off the retching) he has prescribed cyclizine and a different type of stematil that dissolve into your gums so it’s more likely to stay down. At the moment I’m alternating every few hours. I still feel awful but haven’t vommed since last night. He tested wee for ketones and said they were ‘very high’ but didn’t give me a number. The annoying thing is if that was a midwife they’d have probably packed me off to Hosp for iv fluids and meds but I always find gps aren’t so worried about ketones?

Work friends have started texting asking where I am as I was due back yesterday and I’m running out of excuses. Everyone is so nosey on my team! Hopefully after this initial 2 weeks I won’t have to have anymore time off but I’ll have to see how it goes. It was my little boy’s first day at nursery today and hubby had to take him because I am too poorly 😢 so emotional.

Just to agree with what others have said about showering...it sucks! Totally zaps my energy and I end up a retching, sweaty mess on the floor afterwards. Need to build myself up to one today....

hotchocolate86 · 20/02/2018 09:19

Thanks bored. I did have some problems with the ondansetron and constipation last time that I had forgotten about. At my scan today I will ask for a prescription for Lactulose or something. I’m so nervous after previous miscarriages.

Getting into bed and lying down is an issue for me too. If I lie down straight away I’ll be up very soon to retch at least. I have to be propped up and slowly ease myself into lying down. I think I must have forgotten how bad HG is before falling pregnant this time as I honestly convinced myself it’s not that bad and I’d be able to cope. It really is horrendous though.

I hope you feel better on your new tablets sleepy Fingers crossed they work for you.
