I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Natsku · 18/02/2018 15:07

Grin Anatidae

Yeah I sort of forgot how bad it was the first time around with DD 7 years ago - I need to write it on a plaque and put it up on the bedroom wall so I see it and remember any time I'm likely to have sex!

DD is in the local paper today now for her ski race Grin

Shehz21 · 18/02/2018 15:20

Natsku Ohh your family's on a roll!!
Can we have a look at that little darling pls?!Grin

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 18/02/2018 16:37

Thanks Endora I doubt one of us has it worse than the other but it's got to be one of the worst/most ironic workplaces. The nausea hit me like a wall. Sad to hear that your sickness has escalated so much hotchocolate I hope you are treated soon.

Shehz21 · 18/02/2018 17:31

NatAww that's one happy girl! Wish i could read the article :( was equally gutted when I couldn't read the one about Mr.Justice.
But sweet little family you got there Flowers

hotchocolate86 · 18/02/2018 18:15

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. I’ve been through A&E and now waiting in the EPU to see what’s going to be done. My ketones are 4+ according to the notes sent to EPU with me.

Foodylicious · 18/02/2018 18:41

My goodness., you must feel awful hotchoc
Hope they get you sorted soon.
So glad you went!

Natsku · 18/02/2018 18:42

You certainly should get fluids then and ask for iv sickness meds as well.

The article doesn't say much, just that it was her first race and she looks very happy doing it, which she was. Lead happy that she didn't win though! Grin

Natsku · 18/02/2018 18:43

*less

Boredoftryingusernames · 18/02/2018 18:46

My goodness hotchocolate just shows how quickly things change ketone-wise, you must feel terrible. Hope you get some IV meds and fluids ASAP.

hotchocolate86 · 18/02/2018 19:27

I am feeling pretty awful and to think I wasn’t sure I was ill enough. I have had ondansetron through a canula and am now hooked up to a drip. Hopefully it won’t take too long to feel better.

SleepyBadger · 18/02/2018 20:15

Congrats Emu!

Hot choc - hope the iv meds and fluids make you feel more human soon

Thanks everyone for your advice on what to do now. I rang the charity and spoke to someone lovely and I burst into tears because no it’s the first person I’ve spoken to (other than you lovely lot on this thread) who actually gets it! They told me to go back to the GP tomorrow and insist on different meds although they said by the sound of things they may admit me to Hosp (if the doctor does basics like check urine for ketones). I didn’t go to A&E because I thought I’d be making a nuisance of myself but kind of wish I had now finding it so tough and getting really depressed. I’m due back to work tomorrow but something tells me I won’t be going and getting signed off.

Just a quick question does anyone measure there own ketone levels at home? I’m just thinking of the doc doesn’t take me seriously at least if I do go to Hosp I can go armed with evidence of how poorly I am! If so what are the best sticks to order? It really shouldn’t be this hard should it?!

hotchocolate86 · 18/02/2018 20:29

Sleepy definitely go to A&E tomorrow if your gp is no help. I was unsure but I did go and they have been great with me at my hospital. I still feel ill but hopefully on the mend to feeling better. I do hope you get something sorted. Hyperemesis really is the pits.

nailsathome · 18/02/2018 20:32

Congrats emu! Enjoy your newborn cuddles.

I'm glad you're in getting treatment hot choc. Hopefully you'll feel a bit better in the morning.

Mustang27 · 18/02/2018 21:22

Congrats emu I'm sorry it was a bit scary but so glad all is well now. Rest and enjoy your nausea free baby squishes.

Hope you are doing ok Just.

Nat your babies are beautiful. I'm 33 and never even had a set of skis on, she should be incredibly proud of her race whatever position she came in.

Oh sleepy you sound like you are really struggling please don't rush back to work. Iv said if before to others and il say it again in 7 or so months you are going to have a baby and work will have to deal without you for at least 9 months so they can cope now. That goes to everyone suffering and forcing themselves into work or even considering it!

I think it's because we all think we are "just pregnant and it's not an illness, just get on with it" < the shit belief that's perpetuated by many Hmm. You can literally be unable to move from the bathroom floor and we all still question if we are indeed ill enough Hotchocolate. I hope you are feeling a little better now you have been put on the drip.

Hey Shehz how are you feeling?

They made you wait an extra 4hrs for fluids Anatidae Angry what a disgrace. I just don't get it do they genuinely think any of us can be arsed lying to get hooked up on a drip...... it's not a bleeding holiday. Even worse when we already have wee ones we just want to be well enough to be home looking after.

Natsku · 18/02/2018 21:57

I'm very proud of her at least mustang and impressed with how well the other children skied as I had just read in the news that people are saying kids today can't ski like they used to but it seems my area is an exception to that and that makes me glad. Good to see traditional sports carried on.

Really hope your GP helps tomorrow sleepy but if not then definitely go to a&e

Worried67202 · 19/02/2018 07:39

Hi everyone

Thanks for the help a couple of days ago about the embarrassing topic of constipation! I just wanted to say how wonderful this group is and say hi to everyone!

I’m suffering from hyperemesis for the second time at the moment, how did I forget so quickly how awful it is?? (My DS is 10 months). I’ve been on Ondansetron for 2.5 weeks now since my second stint in hospital on IV (where I discovered I was having twins!!). I was initially on cyclizine but it didn’t help at all. Ondansetron has done a great job of stopping me vomiting and I have even eaten a little and drink pretty well on it. I’m still over 2 stone down though, but babies are growing well. However last night I started vomiting again. I stupidly opened the food cupboard to give my DC some dinner, a smell hit me and immediately I started vomiting. I’m now terrified that i’m going to backwards and end up back in hospital again. I’m not sure what my ketones were last time, the GP just showed me a coloured dipstick and said they should be pale pink and mine were really dark purple? The hospital here treats hyperemesis as a day case but I was immediately checked in and given a bed and told I’d be staying in so I guess it was bad. I was to sick to care at the time!

I’m sorry you’re all suffering so badly, those of you that are thinking about going to hospital/gp’s do it, I wish I had gone much earlier and been treated sooner instead of suffering at home.

hotchocolate86 · 19/02/2018 07:55

Hi, how are you all feeling today?
I’m still in hospital and still feeling sick. I have had ondansetron and cyclizine and I have managed to eat a tiny bit. I’m still really struggling to drink though. On the plus side I haven’t been sick since being here.
worried I do hope you are not getting worse. Definitely go in if you feel you are getting too bad.

Herecomesanotherone2018 · 19/02/2018 08:11

Congratulations Emu!!

isthismummy · 19/02/2018 08:50

Hi everyone, would I be able to join please?

I'm 8+4 with twins and I've been feeling like shite since week 6. Not sure my symptoms are quite hyperemesis level yet, but I just feel terribleSad

It started off with increasingly bad nausea/headaches/exhaustion until by the end of week 6 I couldn't get out of bed and was throwing up from 6pm onwards. I couldn't sleep properly as it was so bad. The GP prescribed me Phenergan 25mg to take at night. It did seem to help, but now It's just not effective. I've spent the weekend in bed, throwing up from 6pm again until I'm just vomiting bile.

Do you think I should contact GP again? I'm supposed to be working this week and can't even stand up straight. I don't feel work quite get how ill I am either, which is making me even more stressed.

Boredoftryingusernames · 19/02/2018 09:05

hotchocolate glad you have stopped being sick at least. Do you think it's worth asking for a different combination with the ondansetron? I had promethazine added in and it made a real difference (though still felt nauseous all the time I could drink and eat more). It really zonked me out though so after 10 days my GP tried swapping it for cyclizine and I felt terrible again - it may be that the cyclizine just does nothing for you? Hope you continue to improve.

Sleepy I haven't measured ketones at home, think Lucinda's posts say you can get them from the chemist - ketostix. Definitely at least go to GP today, take a urine sample with you, it would be negligent not to check it in someone with your signs!!

Worried I seemed to find the ondansetron helped lots for a week or so and then had to have another medication added. Hopefully with how poorly you were on hospital admission last time they will take your deterioration seriously. It's so hard with having kids already isn't it? Trying to prepare food is just horrendous (I've been very fortunate with family help to mainly avoid it, but has provoked vomting episodes when I have had to). Hope you feel better again soon.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.....I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, 24 hours with only 1 retch, and managed some cashew nuts yesterday along with my usual beige food. Almost 12 weeks now so hoping the meds and getting a bit further along mean things may ease with the severe symptoms now?!?! Fingers crossed!!

Boredoftryingusernames · 19/02/2018 09:10

isthismummy sorry you feel so awful. Definitely go back to the GP and push for alternative meds, if you just keep trying to battle on you'll end up iller in the long run. It's a real shame work aren't understanding, but you need to look after yourself and babies, please don't drag yourself in feeling so awful. Lucinda had put the links for Pregnancy Sickness Support on the first page of this, they are really helpful to talk to for advice on medications etc if your GP isn't helpful - I felt too awful to call, but my husband has called them a few times (and cried down the phone to them, they are apparently very very nice!).

isthismummy · 19/02/2018 13:07

Thank you for letting me know about Pregnancy Sickness Support Bored I think I might have to ring them at some point.

I just feel so bloody ill. I've managed to eat some toast and a few squares of chocolate, but my stomach constantly cramps with hunger pains. It's just pants isn't it? Sad
