Not sure if anyone will remember but I had a horrible long drawn out miscarriage over Christmas.

Found out I was pregnant again 2 weeks ago, quite unexpected but tested and got dark positive line.

I cant remember the date of my period in march but remember it being quite early.

Anyway, had a slight amount of brown blood last week so went for early reassurance scan today.

Scan revealed (just like last time) a tiny 1cm empty sac. No yolk sac, no fetal pole.

Am I right to lose hope completely ? If this was a viable pregnancy how would I have been producing enough HCG for a dark positive over 2 weeks ago?

I have had blood taken today and will go back in on weds for 48 hr hcg test.

This is SHIT - am totally gutted, moreso than last time

I am so sorry for you. I had an early bleed and an early scan revealed inconclusive. I went back in two weeks to be told it was all ok. So there is still hope. I hope you find some positive news on wednesday.

Thinking of you.

One sec, just going to grab maternity notes. Be back in a moment sweetie.

Princesspowersparkle · 30/04/2007 12:47

Hi Pecka
I had a scan at 6 weeks and had a sac about 11mm in size and that was about it. Went back 2 weeks later and had a little prawn/ alien with a heartbeat and everything. I am now 28+3. Keep your chin up- fingers crossed for you.

pecca sounds like it could be ablighted ovum (spelling?)your body is pregnant but the egg and sperm do not go on to form a baby, I am experiencing this at the moment and am waiting for my hormone levels to drop at about 12weeks when the placenta would kick in for a miscarriage to occur

endlesslove · 30/04/2007 13:01

I'm back. From looking at my notes, I was 6+1 on first scan date. The sac was 1.3cm and a yolk sac of 3mm - this was question marked. Diagnosis was to early to demonstrate fetal pole/pulsations and to have a further scan in 2 weeks to assess viability.

Two weeks later (I was 7+4) the crown-rump length of my baby was 1.4cm.

I then went on to have my normal 12 week scan and my baby was 6.5cm.

I then had a private 18 week scan which revealed I was expecting a little boy.

My point being is do not worry until they tell you to. I know this is so hard (those two weeks were just horrendous and it was over Christmas) but you have to try. The advice they gave me when i was in those first two weeks is to keep my feet up and drink lots of water.

I am now 24+2 and last thursday i started bleeding. Ended up in hospital and all i have is a cervical erosion. But again my life turned upside down in an instant and there really was no need for me to get so stressed.

Try and relax until they tell you otherwise and then grieve if you have to. Positive vibes are the best.

WanderingWanderer · 30/04/2007 13:02

Hi - I could have written your message as going through something very similar too. I had LMP on 15th March and went for a scan last week when I should have been 6 weeks. Saw pregnancy sac but no yolk or fetal pole. Going back next Tuesday to find out if anything has developed but gut instinct is this is not looking good...had missed miscarriage detected at 9 weeks 2 years ago, and scan images look the same now as they did then . I am just hoping my dates are way off and my cyles are erratic which has caused me to be behind where the pg should be! Please keep us posted, fingers crossed for you...but PLEASE don't give up hope

PeckaRolloverAgain · 30/04/2007 13:07

endlesslove - thank you that sounds really positive

my little empty sac was 1. something cm's. no yolk sac or fetal pole

fingers crossed eh?

dh is still hopeful, i am not. but will try to be xxx

btw when did you first test positive the only thing that makes me think its a no go is that i got that dark positive over 2 weeks ago.

did they adjust your dates?

Yeah my dates on the scan do not match my LMP dates. According to my LMP I should be due on 10th August but they have said that I am not due until 18th August which puts me behind.

I really would keep thinking as positively as you can and do not grieve until they tell you the worst (if they do). If they do tell you the worst, take if from there. You may need a bit of help (i.e. taking extra hormones to help keep the baby there) etc, but cross those bridges when you get to them.

Just post if you need a chat. I will be checking up on you so let us know how you are and results etc.

Glimmer · 30/04/2007 13:15

Hi Pecka. So sorry to hear about your worries.
I had mmc last year so know about the anxieties in a new pregnancy. You can test positive (and with a dark line) as early as 10 d after conception, so that would make you only 5.5 weeks (10d +2 weeks +2 extra weeks) pregnant. I believe it's more common not to see a heartbeat at that stage than see one. Did you have an internal or external scan (the external NHS scans are low resolution and detect things weeks later than if you go and get a private one. I do not want to get your hopes up too much -- it really could mean both.
I wish you a lot of strength.

Glimmer · 30/04/2007 13:20

Gothicmama -- please only anwer if you want to share. Do I understand you correctly, that you have a blighted ovum and wait to miscarry naturally and expect to do so around 12 weeks?

I ask because I will have scan tomorrow, had severe complications after mmc last year and would want to miscarry naturally. My doctors all adviced me against a natural mc last year, but all complications were related to the ERPCs and would not have happened had I mc naturally.
So I would fervently opt for a natural mc this time, but need arguments for the docs.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 30/04/2007 13:26

The scan I had was abdominal and performed by a trainee scanner.

OP posts:
endlesslove · 30/04/2007 13:31

They are not as good as the internal scans for that early on. I had an internal scan for the very first one. They did try to see from abdominal one but couldn't get a good enough view. xx

lulumama · 30/04/2007 13:32

am amazed you had an abdominal scan at this early stage.....

PeckaRolloverAgain · 30/04/2007 13:33

Me too I was amazed that it was a trainee. I know everyone has to learn but you would think an early pregnancy reassurance scan would be performed by someone experienced.

I wonder if private scan places do really early scans?

DrNortherner · 30/04/2007 13:34

Oh Pecka. Sorry hun.

It is shit.

ellieandhattie · 30/04/2007 13:39

peck I had mmc and mc after dd1 when I was expecting dd2 I had scan at 6 weeks but they had to do internal to see yolk sac and do measurements they also adjusted my dates by 8 days. I went on to have private scans at 7,9 and 11 weeks due to small bleeds and nhs didnt have any epac appts available Local private clinc they were £50 a go but it was worth it for peace of mind where abouts are you?

glimmer yes I am booked for a re scan at what would have been 15 weeks to see if all is clear. Yes it's called a conservative miscarriage I was given the two options Erpc or natural (conservative) miscarriage. I don't know your mediacl history but mine were happy to go along with my decision, mind you as soon ias they mentiond ERPC i went that's not an option good luck remembe it's your body your choice
