Got to see my rainbow baby for the first time this morning. And a little heartbeat. Measuring couple of days behind at 7 weeks but not too concerned.

PinkyPromise77 · 01/02/2018 09:16

@RedRobin7 do you have HR person you can talk to? I'm the HR person for my company hehe so had no choice :) but if you do I would talk to her/him first in confidence and ask for advice, mentioning that you are worried about your manager reaction.

In all honesty they can't do anything but be supportive to you, otherwise you can sue their asses off and be a lady of leisure hehehe but in all honesty you should not feel stressed about it and if you do and you have a trusted HR person go to them first for advice.

Also it's perfectly acceptable to tell them over email if you don't see her often. Mark it as strictly confidential and also mention in the email that as it is very early on you would like to ask her not to share the news with anyone else and to keep this information strictly confidential. You would have it in writing as well so if you find out she said something it's also illegal and breach of confidentiality/contract and you can raise a grievance against her :)

Either way just ignore her reaction. It's wonderful news you have and she is just a drop in the ocean of happiness and she can't do anything to you :)

Hi all, I’m 9wk+3 and just had my midwife booking appointment. The midwife was lovely which made things easier.

For anyone wondering what happens I’ll give you the highlights. We went through the booklet that I’d been asked to complete before the appt (I’m in Wales so not sure if this happens everywhere). She asked for more details on family illnesses e.g history of diabetes, miscarriage etc and noted down which relations they effected.

She also wanted to know if we had any blood relatives from other countries. I have some French in me from generations ago. Apparently, sickle cell disease came up through Europe and you can be a carrier without having the ill effects. But both you and DP have to be carriers for it to effect the baby. So when they do blood test they dig a bit deeper if you have relatives from further afield.

She took my blood pressure, asked for a urine sample and had me do a carbon monoxide breathalyser. This can tell if you’ve been around second hand smoke/ if you don’t go near smokers it could be that a home appliance is leaking etc. Just had to hold my breath (for a very long 15 secs!) and blow into a tube.

We discussed all of the test they offer for you and the baby (HIV, hep B, sickle cell, Down’s etc)

We had a little chat about foods that were and weren’t ok, exercise and when to see the GP rather than the midwife.

She then called the antenatal clinic and booked my 12 wk ultrasound.

We were there about an hour but we had filled out everything she needed and we’d already discussed the screening tests and knew what we wanted so it was just checks and form filling really.

Snowy1982.
Glad your scan went well.

I got to work this morning, was hanging up my coat and literally had to catch my vomit.

It just came up out of nowhere. Never had that happen before.
Luckily there was a loo near by.

RedRobin7 · 01/02/2018 11:45

@PinkyPromise77 Thanks for your advice it has made me feel better. The HR lady I like has recently left so I do not know the new person. I think I will just be brave and email my manager and then if she is not supportive I will speak with HR.

@Flamingo84 Thank you for letting us know about your appointment. I'm still waiting for the referral but did wonder what happens during it. I also have French ancestors very far down the line so will be interesting to see if the same thing is done in my area.

pregnantandfierce · 01/02/2018 11:50

Thanks @pinky and @Helen - I thought it was just the normal calorie intake. I have suffered with anorexia and bulimia since I was 12 so I just want to make sure I’m eating enough/not too much as I have a tendency to go without eating for hours on end.

@pumpkin - giving you a hand squeeze, I’m sure it’s nothing to be worried about at all. Hopefully the MW will put you at ease.

@red that’s terrible that you feel so anxious to tell your manager, I think given the circumstances email is fine. I’m going to try and delay telling my manager for as late as possible.

Feeling quite meh today, I’m on a course which is rather boring and all I can think about is my ex. I’m going to have a biscuit to perk myself up x

Hardheadedwoman39 · 01/02/2018 11:54

@PumpkinPatch000 I had exactly the same at exactly the same time - my GP referred me to the EPU and they scanned me at 5 weeks 6 days and saw a heart beat. They said it was probably further implantation bleeding. Have you had any twinges?

I'm now 9 weeks and all seems ok - well I feel dog rough so I'm assuming that's a good sign 🙄

PumpkinPatch000 · 01/02/2018 12:08

@hardheadedwomen39 I’m so glad to hear everything worked out for you! I have a GP appointment this afternoon. I didn’t have any twinges this morning but in he last half hour I’ve had some that are so mild I wonder if it’s in my head. I’ve def got lower back pain though. I feel like my period is going to start. Had very light spotting every time I’ve wiped, all mostly light brown but some dark.

I want to go for a scan too, I need to know what’s going on x

Hardheadedwoman39 · 01/02/2018 12:24

@PumpkinPatch000 I was convinced my period was starting but after 36 hours the twinges /period type pain went. Keeping my fingers crossed for you

missamy94 · 01/02/2018 12:27

Been to see my gp this morning who gave me some cyclizine for my sickness although he only told me to take them when absolutely desperate? Has anyone else gps told them this? He also recommended I buy a pregnancy book, had anyone got any recommendations please?

PumpkinPatch000 · 01/02/2018 12:28

Thank you @hardheadedwomen39 that’s exactly how I feel 😞 I really hope it all turns out okay. It makes me scared t go to the toilet because I don’t know what I’ll find.

PinkyPromise77 · 01/02/2018 12:47

@mismammy94 my GP gave me cyclizine as I was going to be travelling between week 5-7 and based on family history she thought it would be wise to be prepared just in case, especially I would not be anywhere near any doctors. But she also said to ONLY use it if I tried everything else and had no other choice. On the leaflet id does say not to use it during pregnancy hence probably why they say only if you have no other choice... hope this helps...

@RedRobin7 I wasn’t expecting my bloodline from that far back to have an impact. I just made a joke that I’d recently looked at a family tree my grandad made and we had a bit of French! Hope your appointment goes well.

Helen290 · 01/02/2018 14:05

Is anyone else struggling to eat protein due to my food aversions and even tho my sickness is better I struggle to eat meat or any foods which aren't carbs at the moment lol I just worry as I know how important protein is 🙈.

Flamingo84 · 01/02/2018 14:20

@Helen290 Yes! I’ve gone off meat in a huge way. I was eating a steak pie a few weeks ago and half way through it completely turned my stomach. Since then it’s been pretty much carbs and fruit. I can tolerate chicken but it’s hit and miss.

Lots of the websites say not to stress too much about what you’re eating in the first bit, just do what you can!

Eggs, milk, yogurt, nuts, beans etc are all good alternatives to meat if you want to try adding a bit more to your diet.

RedRobin7 · 01/02/2018 15:07

@Helen290 I am a vegetarian just because I do not like meat. I just make sure I eat a lot of protein from other sources. I made a curry last night with onions, garlic, lentils, chickpeas, spinach and red peppers in a tin of chopped tomatoes with curry powder. Tonight I will have an omelette. I also like stir fry with tofu or quorn chicken (you could try this as different texture to meat and could be a good temporary solution). Hummus is also good with carrot sticks.

Helen290 · 01/02/2018 15:15

@Flamingo84 yeh I do eat other forms of protein but to be honest I have actually gone off most things I really struggle to find anything to eat, chicken really turns my stomach.

@RedRobin7 that curry sounds lush I actually really like a lot of vegetarian meals problem is my husband eats lots of meat he does weight lifting so lots of chicken so it means having separate meals at the moment, just was worried my diet was crap eating a lot of bread lol it's all I can stomach.

Hi Ladies just a little help for you with your work and how they should treat you :) ACAS has released new pregnancy and maternity guidance to help you understand your rights and what is classed as being treated unfairly. There are 2 types of pregnancy and maternity discrimination - unfavourable treatment & victimisation and you can use the guide below to learn more about your rights:

www.acas.org.uk/media/pdf/0/t/Pregnancy___Maternity_Discrimination.pdf

Hopefully it will not be required but if you ever need anything it's great place to start, plus also feel free to give me a shout x

Hi ladies, went for my first appointment with the nurse today and was given the flu jab. This has probably been asked before but is it safe? I've just had a look online and some of the stories are scaring me :(

littleostrich · 01/02/2018 17:20

@Tidloo I had a flu jab today and I had it in my last pregnancy too - everything was fine. I would always get it because I’ve had flu before and literally thought I was going to die, so definitely wouldn’t want to feel that ill while pregnant!

PumpkinPatch000 · 01/02/2018 17:22

Thank you @pregnantandfierce everyone's support is helping so much.

I've just got back from the doctors. I'm going for a scan tomorrow to check things out. She's concerned about an ectopic pregnancy/miscarriage but said it could also all be fine.

@Tidloo if it helps, my doctor and pharmacist have both advised i get the flu jab asap

Tidloo · 01/02/2018 17:23

Thanks my lovely. That really is reassuring. I'd missed the recent studies that had been done on flu jab risks and thought what on Earth have I done?! This is our first child so I'm extra nervous and very, very cautious. Only just got to 6 weeks. Hoping I chill out soon.

Tidloo · 01/02/2018 17:31

Thanks @PumpkinPatch000- I'm considered 'high risk' because of existing health conditions/previous medical history and am being referred to the Obstetrics team at my local hospital ASAP. I'm hoping and praying all stays well. The littlest thing is making me jumpy re: the baby at the moment. Glad everyone is pro Flu-jab! X

Tidloo · 01/02/2018 17:32

@PumpkinPatch000 and lots of well wishes for you and the baby coming your way. X
