Hey everyone I thought I'd start a thread for September babies!

I've found out I was pregnant yesterday which was amazing! I'm a first time mum so I'm new to all of this, conceived cycle 2.

When should I contact GP to confirm pregnancy, has anyone got any advice this early on?

So is anyone considering a home birth?

Had my DS in hospital and he came in under 2 hours. Very short, very intense birth. No time for proper painkillers as he came so quickly so I basically had paracetamol and gas and air. This time round, we live further from the hospital, and by the time we drop off DS with grandma and drive to the hospital it’ll be about an hour.

I’m not massively keen on home births as I think they’re quite risky, but my first was pretty straightforward and I feel that going to the hospital will be a lot more stressful!

Pinkslink17 · 02/01/2018 14:10

Oh no I've literally just signed up to Emma's diary! Massively regretting it after reading your comments, is anyone else having cramps? Mine have been quite strong for a few days! Hoping it's just stretching

Pinkslink17, i’m with you on the cramps, twinges and various other little feelings, strength and frequency of them varies but have been having them on and off since this time last week (before even testing), trying to convince myself that it’s totally normal.

Def not a home birth here dingdong, have never done this before and think I want all the reassurance of the hospital

rabbitsdontlayeggs · 02/01/2018 14:36

No home birth for me, I've got to have an ELCS. But after DDs (natural assisted) birth I'm absolutely fine with that.

If you're low risk home births can be great. I was low risk, but personally wouldn't have had one with my first as I think it's all such an unknown thing and I wanted the reassurance of being at the MLU or in hospital (near the drugs!😂). I was very glad in the end that DD came in hospital, it could have been a very different outcome for us both had we not have been.

LostMyBaubles · 02/01/2018 14:41

Defo no home birth here

Last time I asked for a epidural but she said by time I had would have had baby as I was 8cm gone so just gas and air for me

Fia256 · 02/01/2018 14:49

Yes cramps on and off over here too!

And I don't want one, but it might end up that way!! DC1 my labour was 3 hours, DC2 it was 20 minutes 😱 I'm scared I'll just have to sneeze this time! I work in a private hospital though, that is also 2 minutes round the corner from the hospital I'll be under. So my plan is to actually stay at work as long as possible as I'm afraid I'll give birth on route from home!!

LostMyBaubles · 02/01/2018 14:57

Fia

Omg wow!
I have to be induced, waters broken, on the drip etc

My sister in law has quick births too

Pinkslink17 · 02/01/2018 15:11

I'm reassured that not the only one, I won't be having a home birth but like the idea of a water birth!

dingdongdigeridoo · 02/01/2018 15:13

Oh my god Fia. You’ve even beaten my time! I think in your case I’d just camp outside the hospital.

LostMyBaubles · 02/01/2018 15:29

Pink our hospital here (well it takes around 20-30mins no traffic)
They have fantastic birthing rooms in the birthing centre

Unfortunately I'm too ill during delivery to go that way but was shown round once and have been with someone during Labour in that part too.
They have birthing chairs, POOLS/BATHS to give birth in too!

The hosp is st Mary's in Manchester in case your local

PinkyPromise77 · 02/01/2018 15:55

Hi all, Can I join? Got my positive today although definitely not a big and fat one as it’s only been 9DPO but it was there. I will do proper clearblue at the weekend but thought I will say hello. I think I’m still in shock so not sure how I feel, I think I’m excited but it will help when hubby believes I’m pregnant lol as he doesn’t believe faint line 😂

Can’t believe it happened the 1st month we tried!!!

Due 17th September

Pinkslink17 · 02/01/2018 15:59

Welcome @PinkyPromise77, I was also faint at 9dpo and DH was apprehensive but did a FRER the night after and it was a very clear BFP! CB Digital confirmed at 11 dpo. That sounds brilliant @LostMyBaubles, I live in Scotland and know a friend who originally wanted a water birth in the local hospital but couldn't use it in the end, from what she said though it was a half decent facility. I only put my form in with the midwife on 28th but I'm already impatiently waiting for an appointment through the post! Hoping it doesn't take too long!

Ohhhhh and may I just say I’m totally freaking out and have no idea what to do as it’s my first ever baby and first ever try...

Already feel a bit obsessed looking at what I will need or I think I will need later on lol 😂

PinkyPromise77 · 02/01/2018 16:06

Thanks @Pinkslink17! I will probably wait with digital for Saturday :) and will probably be impatient and test with my 2nd FRER tomorrow 😂

Fia256 · 02/01/2018 16:07

Congrats @PinkyPromise77! Mine was very light at 9dpo too!

LostMyBaubles · 02/01/2018 16:56

Pinky congrats!
Ring your gp and tell recetoptionsit your pregnant and want to know do you need to come to Drs or go straight to midwife. If midwife they will give you number to ring x

I tried ringing mw again no answer so will try again in the morning lol

Scoobysue10 · 02/01/2018 18:07

Hi everyone.

Not been on here in a long while.
My daughter will be 16 this yr and my son will be 10 this yr.
My new bundle of joy is due in September.

A little anxious about it as I am 39 this yr and have a large age gap between kids.

snowy1982 · 03/01/2018 05:59

Scoobysue welcome and congrats on the BFP. That is quite the age gap but on the bright side just think of the babysitting you can get out of the older ones Smile

So I resisted the urge to POAS this morning, very proud of myself (although DH didn’t seem as impressed with me as I was with myself Smile)

How did everyone survive storm Dylan? We spend most of yesterday evening barricading our house, all the gates kept blowing open

PinkyPromise77 · 03/01/2018 09:54

Thanks @LostMyBaubles I will do. I had a pre conception chat with my GP and she was super lovely about it so going to try to get another visit with her.

Random question but when do you guys are planning on telling your work? Did any of you have to tell work earlier due to not feeling well and of course the antenatal appointments?

Mrs2812 · 03/01/2018 10:04

I don’t want to tell my work too soon but I travel a lot with work and I’m on a train now and the nausea is horrible 🤢 I’ll try and hold off until my first appointment hopefully in feb :)

I’m the same googling and deciding how much I need to start saving because I didn’t expect this would happen first time either! Already designing a cute nursery in my head ☺️☺️

Fia256 · 03/01/2018 10:04

@PinkyPromise77 I have told my manager already. She knew we were ttc anyway but I'd just rather not have to stress about time off for apps/sickness etc! Plus I've just had my early scan at the EPU booked in for two weeks time then midwife 4 days later, so would have to tell her early anyway!

PinkyPromise77 · 03/01/2018 10:08

@Fia256 how early can you book the early scan? I was considering as wanted to tell my mum earlier. Do you think they are worth it and may I ask how much should I expect to pay for them?

Fia256 · 03/01/2018 10:16

@PinkyPromise77 mine is under the nhs as have had 4 losses in a row but I know the nhs won't do it before 6 weeks because of seeing a heartbeat. I will be 6weeks 5days.

Private clinics vary, for example there's two near me - one that will do it from 6 weeks but is £79, and one that does it from 7 weeks but is £40 (which is also in my opinion the better place) so you have to shop around a bit but I wouldn't say assume the more expensive place is the better one!

PinkyPromise77 · 03/01/2018 10:23

Oh @Fia256 I'm so sorry to hear about your mcs... I hope this is it now and all goes well for you x

I have started looking around so hopefully I can find one near me that will not cost an arm and leg :) Thanks!

Fia256 · 03/01/2018 10:26

@PinkyPromise77 I think they are worth doing if you can get them for a good price, but I would recommend waiting till 7/8/9 weeks if you go private because before that you really don't see a great deal! My plan is if the epu discharge me after the first scan, I will probably pay privately for another at around 8 or 9 weeks to bridge the gap between the 12 week scan!
