Hey everyone I thought I'd start a thread for September babies!

I've found out I was pregnant yesterday which was amazing! I'm a first time mum so I'm new to all of this, conceived cycle 2.

When should I contact GP to confirm pregnancy, has anyone got any advice this early on?

Is anyone else having dreadful nausea and sickness? On Thursday I could barely even keep water down all day, Friday I managed a few mouthfuls of food and some water and Saturday I ate much better but really had to overcome the nausea to do that. I basically just constantly feel nauseous but starving hungry at the same time, I didn't even know that was possible Confused It's the worst combination ever!

I was like that. It was horrible. Having to force food down as hungry but feeling sick at the same time. Mine has cleared up now. Hope yours does too.

Yes they calculate your pregnancy from the first day of your last period. You can take rennies and gaviscon for heart burn when pregnant. I found milk got rid of mine. Was drinking loads of the stuff lol.

I had a good night's sleep although did have to get up and wee.
Off to work for another 12hr shift.
Have a lovely Sunday ladies.

Glad you’re out the other side scooby! Hopefully be joining you there soon🤞

snowy1982 · 28/01/2018 08:05

I have been having such a lazy weekend, did nothing yesterday except walk the dogs, cook dinner and snooze. Even with all the snoozing I still managed about 10 hrs sleep as well. This exhaustion is ridiculous

PumpkinPatch000 · 28/01/2018 08:24

Good Morning All!

I'm a bit behind so playing catch up:

@ScoobySue10 I'm so glad to hear someone else has felt cold at times too. I spoke with the doctor about it and she looked at me like I was making it up!

Have you heard when your first scan is yet?

i'm 5 weeks today so still very early days. I found at early though, at 4 weeks. It still hasn't sunk in! x

@pinkypromise that is exactly what i'm like re the hot and freezing! I like it when I feel hot though, before getting pregnant I often felt cold so I like feeling more comfortably warm.

@radio4junkie I have been feeling more emotional at random times. It's not every day but occasionally i'll feel a wave of emotion and like i'm going to cry. I'm also feeling irritable occasionally easily. It will feel so good to have your scan in a few weeks times.

@pregnantandfrightened i thought the same about the dry lips, nose and eyes but I googled and it found they are also pregnancy symptoms too. I'm not sure what causes it.

I'm using the pregnacare max multi vitamins which have everything you need in them. I have to take 3 tablets a day with those with my main meal and finding them okay at the moment, no issues.

I went to the doctors yesterday for my first appointment. I had no idea what to expect and I was left so disappointed! She took the date of my last period, seemed annoyed when I told her they are irregular and although she answered my questions it was obvious she didn't really care :( She wasn't interested at all that i'm dairy intolerant and if i'm getting enough calcium and didn't bother to check i'm taking any vitamins, folic acid etc either. I had my blood pressure taken, wasn't told the result and asked where i'd want a scan and to give birth and that was it. So rushed I couldn't think straight.

What is the norm once you've had the first appointment like this? I have absolutely no idea what happens between now and the scan at 11-13 weeks or what I should do... should I be seeing a midwife or just wait for the letter to arrive about the scan? Feeling sad my experience was so horrible! x

niclw · 28/01/2018 08:37

@PumpkinPatch000 Sorry to hear that you had such a horrible experience. Hopefully you will be allocated a lovely midwife who will be able to reassure you about things a bit more. The system must be a bit different where you live compared to mine as I didn't need to see the doctor. However the next bit is the same for everyone. You should have an appointment with your midwife between 8 and 10 weeks. I would assume your doctor has now referred you so you will probably hear within a week or so. I had to self refer and i got my appt date a week later. If you don't hear anything ring the doctors surgery and ask the receptionist. They should know how quickly midwife appts come through in your area x

snowy1982 · 28/01/2018 08:41

@niclw, I self referred almost 3 weeks ago and still haven’t heard anything. The online form I had to fill in said if I don’t hear by week 12 to give them a call but to me that seems a bit late. I am 8 + 2 now so getting extremely impatient about it

PumpkinPatch000 · 28/01/2018 08:45

Thank you @niclw I feel more re-assured now. I'll wait and see if the letter turns up and if not will ring the doctors surgery. Weird question but do you think the envelope will say anything 'baby' related on it? We are keeping it a surprise at the moment.

What normally happens at the midwife appointment? x

SquidgyMcPidgy · 28/01/2018 08:58

Where I live, you normally have one booking in appointment with a midwife around 8-10 weeks and then nothing until the 12 week scan. At the first midwife appointment they’d just ask questions like first date of last period, some family history, weight and height, etc. They might take your blood pressure. It’s like a formality. In my experience they are more interested and do more tests after the 12 week scan.

PumpkinPatch000 · 28/01/2018 09:11

Thank you @SquidgyMcPidgy it's good to have an idea of what to expect. It makes me feel less anxious. Are they likely to take blood and urine samples too?

nk1605 · 28/01/2018 09:16

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well. Im having pink discharge after every BM which turns to brown and then goes to nothing until the next BM. It's not a lot but enough to scare me as I am already paranoid about mc after last month. My cervix must be sensitive, and I am just hoping and praying it doesn't turn into anything else. So, I was due to fly with work next month but my Dr has signed me off from flying because of the bleeding. Now, that means I have to tell my boss. I'm only 6 weeks and didn't want to tell her so soon, but have no choice. Thing is, I need an excuse for my colleagues. They know I should be travelling, so what should I tell them when they ask why I'm not?! Any suggestions v much appreciated!

PumpkinPatch000 · 28/01/2018 09:37

@nk1605 so sorry things are hard at the moment, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Maybe just say you can't travel because of personal reasons? Hopefully then they will respect your privacy and won't question further.

Scoobysue10 · 28/01/2018 09:51

Pumpkin patch 000 I have my scan on 23rd Feb I will be 12 wks +6.
In my experience the Dr doesn't do much maybe that's why some areas like mine you refer yourself straight to the midwife.
Would really like a water birth this time round. I forgot to ask the midwife if this will be possible. I should have consultant appointment at hospital around 16 wks so will ask them.

I had a previous c section but have had a normal delivery since but I also tend to have high blood pressure when pregnant.
Just really fancy a waterrible birth this time round.

Ktn35 · 28/01/2018 10:50

@nk1605 I have the same problem in that I have to tell my headteacher I can’t go on a trip to Ghana in October (as will - hopefully - have a two week old baby!) but that means telling her and hi king of an excuse for my colleagues. I wish I could just tell them but it’s way too early! No idea what I’m going to say!

Ktn35 · 28/01/2018 10:50

Let me know what you give as an excuse!

nk1605 · 28/01/2018 11:00

Thanks @ktn and @pumpkinpatch. Good idea on the personal reasons excuse, though I'd worry they'd guess the reason was pregnancy! Will have a think and let you know :) I'm already so nervous about telling my boss because someone else in our team has just gone off on maternity leave and not sure how she will react with that plus the fact I have to cancel my travel next month 😫

Ktn35 · 28/01/2018 11:07

I know. Me too. I haven’t been in the job very long either so feel bad. But we shouldn’t. We have every right to be pregnant! X

Scoobysue10 · 28/01/2018 11:14

Well I popped into Asda and they have a baby event on. So that's some bottles and a steriliser bought. Saving of £30 so couldn't resist lol

niclw · 28/01/2018 11:20

@PumpkinPatch000 I doubt any letter they send you will have anything obvious in it. Mine was just a plain white one. Didn't even say nhs on it.

@Ktn35 I had to tell my headteacher on Friday despite being on 7 weeks. I've got parents evening every Thursday for the next 5 weeks. As it doesn't finish till 7.30 and I then have a 25 mile drive I knew I would be struggling even more with tiredness than I am. He was really supportive but wanted me to agree to tell all of slt. I refused to do it using the argument that it is too early. He understood although was a little irritated. Perhaps you could ask your headteacher if there is anyway you can keep it quiet for a few weeks that you are not going to Ghana.

Ktn35 · 28/01/2018 11:54

@nlciw thank you! Yes I am on my second parents evening in a row this week - who’s idea was this?? then a full day with break duty and study support after school on a Friday! I was in tears by the end of last week! My head is a woman with a small child so I’m hoping will be much more sympathetic. I’m going to say this isn’t an official announcement of pregnancy but just a heads up for her as it’s such early days! I think she’ll keep it quiet for me ... !

Ktn35 · 28/01/2018 12:00

I hope you make it through all those parent’s evenings 😩5 in a row 😩!

niclw · 28/01/2018 12:05

@Ktn35 Thanks. My head agreed to let me finish at 6.30 each time so hopefully that will help a little.

PumpkinPatch000 · 28/01/2018 12:38

@ScoobySue10 oo not too long to wait until your scan now then, nearly in Feb! I quite like the idea of a water birth too, although I haven't looked into any of that stuff at all yet.

@nk1605 good luck, I hope you come up with an excuse you feel comfortable with. I'm anxious about telling work too :(

@niclw ah that's good then, hope mine is plain too!

Scoobysue10 · 28/01/2018 13:55

Pumpkinpatch000 yes not long.
Remember with my first I didn't want to think about labour. I was really scared but ended up with emergancy c section without labour.
Then my 2nd one I was just so focused on having a vaginal delivery I didn't think about much else.
This one I obviously want another vaginal birth but would like to experience a water birth this time. Hoping it will help with the pain also.
