Hello all,
I was wondering if I could join even though I haven't actually gone through a miscarriage. Sadly my baby girl was stillborn in October at 26 weeks, her due date should have been yesterday. Anyway totally unexpectedly a week and a half ago I did a test as I was feeling sick and it was positive. I had to go through 2 years of fertility treatment for my daughter I lost so shocked is an understatement! Anyway I'm utterly terrified, which I'm sure everyone here can relate to! Scan on Wednesday eeeek...

Flatwhite32 · 23/01/2018 08:38

@iamloading welcome, and I'm so sorry for your loss. That must be so difficult. Did they give you any reason as to why that happened, so they could monitor you more closely this time round? Congrats on your new pregnancy. Best of luck tomorrow. We are all rooting for you. Xx

Dandelion89 · 23/01/2018 10:16

So sorry to read your sad news @Hettyturnip Take care of yourself Thanks

Hollymchollyface · 23/01/2018 10:17

welcome @iamloading,sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't imagine how hard that must be. I hope all goes well with your scan tomorrow, how far along are you now? We are here if you need to chat! x

Lifeofpies · 23/01/2018 10:26

Welcome ladydolly and iamloading.

Very best wishes for your scan tomorrow, loading. I’m so sorry about your daughter.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 23/01/2018 11:53

Hello all
Haven't posted since last week as I was trying not to obsess

Had my follow up scan today (last week they could only see yolk sac not embryo)
Today they could see a foetus with a heartbeat which is amazing - but it's very small at 2.5mm

My dates (which were sketchy as last year I had lots of variety in period dates) put me at 7+5 but scan size puts me at 5+4
Another scan in 2 weeks.

Can any good possibly come of this??

I had steeled myself for an empty sac so this is nice.... but still not entirely positive...

Gah why does it have to be so difficult?!

Sorry to hetty and welcome to others. Flowers

Lifeofpies · 23/01/2018 12:12

Dont that’s great news about the HB! I was wondering how you were. If your dates are sketchy then I think this is really promising. What did they think? Has it grown in mm as much as it should have in a week? Hope the time goes quickly

iamloading · 23/01/2018 12:36

Don't - I'd agree that a HB is a really good sign...
I think I'm around 8-9 weeks but should find out tomorrow. My daughters case is going to a panel of genetic experts - so should find out what caused it at the end of feb. Which freaks me out as it will be a bit too late for this one if things work out...

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 23/01/2018 13:28

Thanks both. Life nurse was quite on the fence. I don't suppose they can do anything else as they can't know what's happening...
They couldn't see foetus at all last week so perhaps that's a plus.

Good luck with results iam that must be hard waiting. I hope it helps somehow this time around and everything else goes smoothly.

notparticularlypatient · 23/01/2018 14:03

Welcome @iamloading, and sorry that you have had to go through such a late loss. It must be very difficult. Hope that this pregnancy is straighforward and uneventful, and that your scan tomorrow brings good news!

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere I agree
with the others that a heartbeat is a good sign, but understand your worry. Hope the next week proceeds quickly for you - is there anything you can do to keep your mind busy? (I'm sure that it is close to impossible in real life..)

@Hettyturnip sorry about your sad news. Hope you are back with us soon, and that medical management is straightforward and quick. Thanks

I just came back from our 12 week scan, and all looks good. Relieved for now, and hope that feeling can stay with me for a while...

iamloading welcome. I am so sorry about the loss of your daughter. Congratulations on your new pregnancy and good luck for your scan tomorrow.

don'tbuy great news on the heartbeat! That's good progress from your last scan.

patient great news on the 12 week scan!

foxtrot does it help to think of it as a 0.01% chance? Would it be better to just go for the harmony test if it gives you peace of mind?

I went for my second scan today and am pleased to report all is still looking good. Measured at 9 weeks 4 days and it looked less like a blob! We also saw it moving around which was lovely.

notparticularlypatient · 23/01/2018 19:03

@FoxtrotSkarloey congrats on getting your results back as low risk. They really are low risk! As a comparison, I have had the harmony test with both DD and this one, and low risk is reported as being less than 1:10 000. It's either that or a quite high risk as far as I understand the harmony, getting a 1:10 000 implies that they didn't find anything odd chromosome wise even when they did identify the baby's DNA. 1:10 000 is not far from your 1:8400. In other words, I'm not sure having the harmony will give you much more information. The only thing that can tell you for sure is a cvs or amnio, but with results like yours I don't think that would be recommended. The reason why we did the harmony was that I would rather know sooner than later, and the thought of getting a high risk on the combined test and then having to go through a long wait for the results was just too scary.

Hope that helps... (I do work with statistics, so am perhaps above average interestedHmm)

Maybe we're being naive/overconfident but we got 1 in 10000 as all three of our results and we considered that straightforwardly good news - I know it's not identical to one in 8400, but the difference is miniscule, it's a 0.012% chance versus a 0.01%. Now I'm wondering if we should be more worried!

Lifeofpies · 24/01/2018 08:49

We just got our screening results but they present them very differently. Can I hikack? I’ve uploaded a pic - can any stats minded folk try to explain the numbers?

Posifrickentive into 2018 - thread 20 for those pregnant after mc
Lifeofpies · 24/01/2018 09:18

Is it really 1:473? I’ll book a harmony if so.

Lifeofpies · 24/01/2018 09:28

Sorry, having a little freak out. So it it 1:473, which I know is still low risk but way way higher than with DS.
Would most of you have a harmony test with those results?

notparticularlypatient · 24/01/2018 10:39

@Lifeofpies speaking as someone who had the harmony without knowing anything else than my initial risk (high because of my age), I'm probably not the right one to give advise. But as you say, 1:470 is still low risk. One thing to keep in mind, is that age plays an independent role for the calculations they do in the combined test. So even if all measurements were identical as when you had your ds, risk would come back higher now because you are older.

brogueish · 24/01/2018 11:12

Lifeofpies those numbers look the same as mine, but we'd already decided to have Harmony because my base level on age alone was something stupid like 1:84. I was told that anything over 1:200 (or 1:300?) was considered low risk, but I agree it doesn't feel particularly low risk when you hear it!

Fwiw, my Harmony completely reassured us so was worth every one of the many pennies it cost.

Lifeofpies · 24/01/2018 11:21

Thank you both. Notparticularly as you say, my age (39) is going to bring it down considerably. I’m going to look into testing, just now it’s on my mind I’m not sure I can unthink it! Like you say, Brogueish it doesn’t feel particularly low risk, even if it is. The more sensitive screening would be helpful.

Lifeofpies · 24/01/2018 11:22

So sorry for the epic hijack, foxtrot!

peachgreen · 24/01/2018 11:33

Mine was 1 in 450 and I was happy that was low risk and didn't even think about it again. I think it maybe depends on what you'd do with the information, if anything (and I'm making no judgement either way, it's a personal decision). If nothing, I would consider that was low enough risk to be pretty assured everything was okay.
