Wishing you the very best of luck for the scan, foxtrot - will be thinking of you

peachgreen · 03/01/2018 09:39

@LisaSimpsonsbff I had 4 first trimester scans, plus my 12 week and then I've had a scan every 4 weeks since then (apart from an 8 week gap between 20-28 weeks) as well as three for reduced movement. I'm 37 weeks today and everything is fine. I felt the same guilt and spoke to my midwife about it and she was very reassuring - nothing to worry about and as you say, some women have scans fortnightly or weekly and their babies are unaffected. So glad things are progressing well for you.

Smurf123 · 03/01/2018 12:11

Lisa I have scans every 4 weeks up until now and from 30 weeks every 2 weeks until due date..

kirinm · 03/01/2018 13:49

Sorry to butt in but looking for some advice. I was seen in a RMC several years ago but haven't got pregnant since my last MMC. I'm pregnant now and have registered at Kings college hospital but that isn't where I was seen in the RMC. I've moved to the other side of London.

Do you think Kings will see my history and automatically offer me the reassurance scans or are those only offered to RMC patients? I'm not sure what to do and whilst I'm keeping my anxiety in check at the moment, I do want a scan next week if possible or the following week as I'll be 6 weeks (if I'm still pregnant by then).

Has anyone got any experience with Kings?

Unfortunately I only registered a few days ago via self-referral so don't have contact info yet.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/01/2018 14:50

In my area it's your GP that refers you for early scans, so it might be worth talking to them Kirin - even if they don't book it in for you, they should have contact details if that's how it works.

kirinm · 03/01/2018 15:00

One of the main problems I face is getting an appointment or even a call with my GP. I'm grateful I can self refer to antenatal care. I can thankfully self refer to an EPU so if I haven't heard from Kings by next week, I'll do that.

Ekphrasis · 03/01/2018 15:44

Emma I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm glad your scan was good lisa, afaik as others have said there's no issues with scans.

I hope your scan goes well foxtrot!

And lovely to see you here halloumi! I'm sure I've missed some others so welcome new people! I'm really busy at the mo trying to get on top of a load of stuff before the start of term while entertaining ds!

Now 21 weeks and apart from bad hips and what is possibly fanjo varicose veins (Shock) I'm feeling good. Regular wiggles and kicks except o think it's mostly hands and elbows I'm feeling as I think he's head permanently down already. Ds did that early on. I don't think my frame gives much room for its inhabitants!

Ekphrasis · 03/01/2018 15:47

Hi kirrin I have no experience of early reassurance scans but I know a friend was referred by a gp following a mmc. She had significant mh worries and anxiety already so they deemed it extremely helpful. It was never mentioned for me after 2 mc but I actually found the idea too anxiety provoking. If youve been under a RMC in the past I'm
Sure there's reason for a gp to refer?

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/01/2018 15:50

Kirin when you say you referred to King's, do you mean the midwife team? I'd ring EPU directly.

keeponrunning85 · 03/01/2018 17:50

So sorry for your loss Emma. I hope you're back here in the not too distant future.

Foxtrot I hope all was well at your scan.

Can I have a hand hold ladies? Am struggling a bit with anxiety today. Hopefully I'm 6+6. 3 out of 4 previous pregnancies have ended between 6 and 7 weeks, the other just over 7 weeks. I have spent the afternoon overanalysing everything and doing far too much unhelpful googling. I've checked my heartbeat and one of the times it was down to my pre-pregnancy resting rate. I have barely had any discharge today. (Sorry for the TMI.) Haven't felt quite as nauseous as yesterday. I KNOW symptoms can fluctuate but have convinced myself this one has ended too. My scan is a week tomorrow so still a bit of a wait. Sometimes I can't believe how slowly it feels time is going.

So glad to hear that foxtrot - congratulations!

Lifeofpies · 03/01/2018 20:46

Wonderful news, foxtrot! Amazing how much they change between scans. I’ve got my 12w on the 14th—haven’t made it this far since DS.

keepon - hand to hold here. No wonder you’re feeling anxious... Echo that every pregnancy is different and these early weeks are so tough with a history of RMC. I hope this next week goes quickly. Have you got anything to distract you? Will be thinking of you.

Stuckinstressville · 03/01/2018 22:17

Sticking my head in the door to say hello! 30+4 here after 1 mc and 2 Mmc ! Growing a big one but amazed I made it to this!

Hope you are all ok - the support I received kept me sane! Thank you!

Stowie3012 · 04/01/2018 14:10

Hi 👋 can I join?

Got my positive on the 2nd after 13 cycles and a missed mc in September. I didn't know until I got some spotting at 10 weeks and was sent for an early scan. Unfortunately miscarried the following week which should have been 11 weeks but baby was only measuring 6+1.
I am 4 weeks tomorrow and have not contacted gp yet. Technically af is not even due til Saturday so kind of feel like it's not real until I've actually missed it (I know that's ridiculous). I've been having a bit of cramping this week really low down so hoping it's just stretching.
I definitely want an early scan this time and if the gp won't offer it then will go privately. Am I best waiting an extra couple of weeks as I'm fairly certain I didn't conceive until at least 20th December. I don't really understand how the measurements work??

Sorry for the long post!

Re: with the ultrasound scans, you can't have too many, they only limit it when there is radiation involved in the scan. I work in the hospital so am certain of this 😊

AKP79 · 04/01/2018 14:21

Hi ladies - I'm not very good at being consistent with this thread. I dip in and start following then for some reason it makes me anxious so I have to take a break for a bit.

Lovely to hear all the positive news.

Stowie - congratulations. After 2 previous MMC I left my midwife appointment as late as I could. No real reason, but just because I wasn't in a good head space. If you're testing positive I don't think it matters when you go, as long as you go in time to book your 12 week scan.

I've had some good news over Christmas and our little one showed up with a beating heart at our 12 week scan. After sitting in that room twice before and having bad news, seeing a wriggly baby was amazing. They forgot to take any measurements for Downs/Edwards etc so we have to go back again next Tuesday for that - feel like it was a lucky mistake as now the initial euphoria has gone and I'm back to anxiously awaiting a scan!

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 14:40

I think the nice thing about this thread is that we can dip in and out and not feel like we've missed anything :) It's totally understandable too.

I am seven weeks tomorrow which feels totally surreal. Next appointment is at 7+4 to discuss blood test results, and then 8+3 to meet the geneticist. Not sure what to expect from that one.

Yeah standard for Germany, I think the bloods you get at about 10 weeks in the UK are done at booking (5-7 weeks) here. I didn't follow everything she mentioned testing for but I think it was something like:

hCG level
HIV status
Chlamydia
Toxoplasmosis immunity (we had to pay extra for this but DH was keen - means I can eat rare meat if I'm immune)

Maybe another thing or two?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 15:32

I would love to be able to have NIPT to see if the baby has any translocation but it's not advanced enough yet to do that. There's one I think which works for some but it's only available in Australia and parts of the US.
