Hi there,

Does anyone feel like a chat?

Age: 34
TTC: 11 months
Due: July 2018

I had vivid dreams in the two week wait. Since BFP I've just had mildly sensitive boobs.

My colleague has just announced his wife is pregnant, they've just had their first scan, I can't help but feel he's stolen my thunder a little bit!

We've booked an early one, it's next Wednesday, will be 7 + 5 by then, I just don't feel I'll totally believe it until I know there is definitely something there! X

LMX0 · 14/12/2017 14:11

Thanks all - after some googling I've worked out who I need to ring to make my midwife booking appointment (I think).

@Brettgirl totally know what you mean about it not feeling real. The thought of what my body is doing while I am just getting on with normal life is also really weird!

I also thought my GP would test me and was surprised she didn't. Maybe the cost to the NHS of a couple of random liars is less than testing all the people who are actually pregnant lol.

NelleB · 14/12/2017 19:05

I've had a meltdown today... I work with a girl who drops in every now and again she's 4.5 months pregnant, told me today, however baby has lots of issues. I was trying to hold it together and keep my secret without having a breakdown as well as supporting her.
Cue a call to the midwifery team to calm my nerves due to having sinusitis last week and thinking 'OMG' and me crying in the car... going back into work was fun.

LMX0 · 14/12/2017 20:25

@frenchsteph86 sipping on water small meals throughout the day and plain biscuits apparently having a plain biscuit before you get out of bed in the mornings can help?? Worth a drink maybe?
@Blair86 hopefully you get sorted and get your appointment 😊 youd think the price of testing would be alot less than appointments with midwifes & scans
@NelleB awk nelle 😢 thats awful hope you feel a bit better nowThanksThanks

NelleB · 14/12/2017 20:29

@LMX0 thanks, I'm ok now, has some giant chocolate buttons 🙈. Just hoping everyone's baby is perfect from now on and trying to squash my need to look at prams/furniture/names x

Ha1234 · 14/12/2017 20:39

Hi All,
6 weeks pregnant due early August 2018.
12 months TTC
35yrs old - first pregnancy
Already have severe bloating, and mild period like pains pretty much all the time. It’s such a weird time as I’m not telling anyone and until I found this group I was really worried about having cramping thinking it must be bad, but sounds like it’s pretty normal.
Anyone else completely petrified like me??

NelleB · 14/12/2017 20:55

@Ha1234 I am exactly the same. I've been having these stitch like pains on my right side, apparently completely normal and they've finally gone today after 5 days (on and off). I think it's the unknown that terrifies me and I'm trying not to be this needy first time pregnant woman but I don't know what's normal and haven't told my family yet. It's so hard x

LMX0 · 14/12/2017 20:57

@NelleB good luck on squishing that desire!! We have already discussed names!!! And looked at prams and other baby items 🙈🙊 i just cant help myself!! Loll and chocolate always helps!!!
@Ha1234 welcome and congrats!!! It really is a strange time isnt it!! Cramps are totally normal im still getting them but they are a bit less often now altho if ive wind i know all about lol!!!

Ha1234 · 14/12/2017 21:13

Glad to hear we are all not alone, I’ve managed enough of my team through pregnancy and often been told early on, so it’s strange to be on the other side and not looking forward to the excuses of why I’m not drinking all over Christmas- especially on my team night out 🤦🏻‍♀️X

LMX0 · 14/12/2017 22:26

@Ha1234 thats a really hard one!! I tried tell the girls i work with i was wallpapering the next day as i wanted it done for xmas but i was tormented the whole night 'your preggers arent you' but it hasnt been mentioned since and im out this weekend but this one will be alot easier to hide over xmas day n that how about u pour non alcoholic into an alcoholic bottle?

Daphne33 · 15/12/2017 12:32

Hi everyone,

Just checking in to this thread as it's my first pregnancy at 33, and am very new also the the UK (relocated here 2mths ago). We have been married 6months, but not yet ttc due to the hectic relocation so when the GP told us last week (I was literally there just to register myself for the NHS), it was quite a surprise to know that there is a bub there now.

I had put my sleepiness and fatigue down to the relocation and change of timezone, and thought my period was running late as a result.

I've done a private scan since and it puts me at 8w+2d, so possibly a late July baby. We are quite awed by how we can already see the form of the bub and the heartbeat. Think we are going to be quite excited (albeit unprepared? so am joining the forum!) first-time parents. Awaiting now for my NHS midwife to contact me with the appointment.

Adding to all this being new, prior to us finding out that I am pregnant, my husband was also looking to move us again out of his old flat (we're in London) to a newer place. Now with the news, looks like he wants us to tackle viewings head-on and move again in Spring before the baby comes so we have more space.
Such a lot is going to be happening and I can't help but feel a mix of craziness, anxiety and excitement. Add to that, I'm not sure now if I should go ahead with job applications/interviews. My husband is supportive and I think having a job would help me settle in, make friends etc, plus having the extra money for the bub is always good. I've held a decent, comfortable job all my life, but would people hire me though, pregnant?

Such a lot really going on for me atm, so just wanted to say some bits here and get it off. Primarily here on the forums to learn about pregnancy, swap stories and journey with others at similar stage!

MegEmski · 15/12/2017 12:35

welcome @Ha1234

I was pretty panicky up until 12 week scan and then anxiety much improved.

I am still terrified about the first few weeks with screaming baby and no idea what I am doing! Luckily my DH is pretty awesome and I hope he keeps that up....

How is everyone feeling? Plans over christmas? I will be 16 weeks over Christmas so hoping to feel pretty well and enjoy the festive season, even if I'm sober. I'm also ignoring some of the eating rules (they change all the bloody time) so although I'm not eating pate, I am enjoying any cheese I fancy & nice meats like salami and prosciutto.

MegEmski · 15/12/2017 12:37

Hi @Daphne33

sounds like you have a lot going on!

We currently live in a yurt in my parents back garden (dont ask). Hoping to get a mortgage in April/ May and baby is due in June.....early June....

so we will

a) be housebuying whilst I am heavily preggers
b) doubling our outgoing whilst halving our income (I only get the 6 weeks at 90% then SMP)

Also - I work in HR - so if anyone has queries on HR stuff I am happy to help out

:)

Minkies13 · 15/12/2017 12:58

Thought I'd say hi too. Im 32 and just got my bfp on monday this week at 11dpo. This will be my first baby so very excited. It's only just sinking in now. I'm now 4 weeks pregnant.

@daphne33 I feel you. I only moved here (London) 5 months ago from Australia-1 month after we got married! I only started my new job 2.5 months ago- awkward!

Trying to figure out how the NHS works here in terms of giving birth. I was planning on going through the private system back home but the system seems quite different here. It seems most people go through the NHS- private seems incredibly expensive here.

So much to get my head around Smile

LMX0 · 15/12/2017 14:52

@Daphne33 hi daphne welcome and congrats!!! And WOW!!! You have been going through so much lately!! I hope you get everythIng sorted some jobs may be funny in employing someone that is pregnant but im sure there are plenty out there that would so no harm in applying
I also only got married this year (may) but we started TTC nearly straight away we weren't being careful from march as we wanted to start a family but i also had a dress to think of 😂
@MegEmski you will be grand it will take us a few days to get used to the wonderful little bundle that screams lol but team work and support is what will help us get through it all ill only be 9 weeks at xmas and i too shall be eating what i fancy however atm thats not very much!!! So im hoping ill be able to manage my dinner and keep it down!!! Also sounds like you will have alot going on come spring time!!

LMX0 · 15/12/2017 15:00

@MegEmski ohh you work in HR thats handy to know 😊
@Minkies13 welcome and congrats!!! Yes going private here can be very expensive for anything not only pregnancy and giving birth i think its pretty straight forward going through the nhs as long as you are already registered and have a gp when i got my BFP i went to see my gp and he put me on the system and i got a letter to tell me when i had to go and see the midwife however depends on where you are as im in belfast and everywhere is different

Blair86 · 15/12/2017 20:19

I got my scan date! 24th January, which is 12 weeks on the dot. It suddenly all seems so real somehow... that's soon!

Hi @Minkies13, like @LMX0 says everywhere is different (very annoying) so if you are registered with a GP I'd just get them to point you in the right direction.

@Ha1234 I feel you, I have my Xmas do next week and already mentioned on here that I don't know how to hide that I'm not drinking! We will get through it though!

@NelleB hope you felt better today :)

NelleB · 15/12/2017 20:48

@Blair86 oh how exciting!! Currently drinking an non alcoholic rosé 😂. I bet you cannot wait. I am excited to get my date in the post x

LMX0 · 15/12/2017 21:14

@NelleB im the same here im drinking a non alcoholic rose and think thats my plan for xmas 😊

@Blair86 awww so exciting!!!! Mine is on the 5th of jan ill only be 10+5 weeks i was a little annoyed because i didnt think it would be as big or clear but im happy now as i get to see my little baby a litte sooner and we plan to go private for a gender scan around 16 weeks as DH wants to know

Daphne33 · 15/12/2017 21:36

Hi @MegEmski
Thanks for sharing your personal situation too.
I completely understand about halving the income (which was already a decision I had made and expected would be ok for awhile due to the relocation). Of cos now with bub is coming along, we all naturally want to contribute what we can to make bub's life/family life more comfy all around.
My husband and I don't really have an extensive family/friends network here either (everyone is everywhere around the world) so we most likely have to buy everything first-hand. (I am comparing this to my extensive network of family/friends back home who have had babies and generally always swap/exchange/hand-me-down certain items)
We will just go along the ride and see how it goes. Smile

@Minkies13, firstly, a huge congratulations!!
And so nice to know someone is new to the UK too. I'm from Singapore, so not too far from Australia. I know what you mean about NHS, I'm still figuring out how it works too. Wink I'd be honest, I am even still adjusting to the weather, I come from the tropics and everyday 30deg sunshine, haha.

Back home, we get (relatively affordable) private care as a citizen and also options for subsidised care.
Not forgetting too, over there, I was also earning my own money with citizen privileges in Singapore that would allow me to be alot more independent/efficient in making decisions (such as should I go for a scan?) compared to here where I'm still sort of setting up an identity, quite reliant on my citizen husband, etc if you know what I mean. Back home, we choose an ob-gyn and get scans as soon as 6weeks.

NHS is different though with the booking appt that they allocate to you (8-10wks) and the standard scan at 12wks but I want to appreciate being here for new experiences, and hey, maybe it will teach me (& the baby) a sense of different independence! (We are quite mollycoddled in Singapore.)
From our scan, everything looks positive so I try to focus on the
good and not overly worry. My husband has been a star so far so that's a positive too.

@LMX0, thank you for your encouragement!

And thanks everyone for letting me voice my thoughts here for a bit.

Brettgirl · 15/12/2017 22:17

@blair86 I have mine the next day, I'll be 13 weeks! Xxx

Brettgirl · 15/12/2017 22:22

Hi ladies how is everyone? I am quite frankly exhausted. I'm so tired I could cry, actually I'm so tired I am crying lol
The midwife rang today and said my blood test results are showing that I'm anaemic, she seemed surprised and said it was very early to be anaemic, but it's something I'm prone to, especially having had a gastric bypass. So back on the iron tablets for me -yay hello black poo lol
The main thing stressing me at the moment is how I get through this weekend at work, I start at 9am tomorrow , have a sleep in tomorrow night and finish at 3pm Sunday, before returning 9-9 Monday, and I have no idea where I'm going to get the energy from!
Sorry for whinging, hope you are all ok xxxx
P.s 7 weeks today yaaaay! Xxx

NelleB · 16/12/2017 06:07

@Brettgirl oh I really hope you're feeling better. I have a tangerine when I feel tired, I'm a teacher in the early years and there's nowhere to hide. We aren't allowed anything unhealthy in front of the children and I desperately just need a mars bar but settle for a tangerine.
