I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I got lots free too, from one grandma that came into my shop, found out I was pregnant and decided that she must give all her grand children's outgrown things to me.

Snipples · 14/11/2017 18:10

I’ve had a break from meds this afternoon and evening and I feel a lot more alert. Hoping I can balance this against the sickness coming back. I’m going to suggest to work that I reduce my hours for a while as I’m really struggling. If they don’t agree I’m going to get signed off. Need to stop trying to do everything as I feel like I’m failing at everything and just accept that I’m not coping and I need a bit of help for the moment.

Thanks again for the advice. You ladies are a fountain of knowledge ❤️

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 19:15

door perfect, thank you will take a look.

natsku that's lovely, people are so kind!

snipples be careful I have found that if I don't take meds I'm right back to the start and end up back in hospital. I would get signed off.

Shehz21 · 14/11/2017 19:36

justtheonethen Oh lucky you! Glad to know about good hearted people being so generous though, it's such a plus point after all this suffering.
Dh & I walked into town today and were having a look at prams/carry cots/car seats. So we liked a set and the owner happily made a bundle price of £1200 for the pram/car seat/carry cot.
I could've fainted!😅
Live in a small apartment so due to lack of space, I wanted a side cot for the first 6-9 months and the one we looked at was almost £200........
I hope I get some generous people at my baby shower next month!Grin
Got lots of cute onesies and swaddles from DM though(1st grandchild super excited grandparents).

I am really wondering about the essentials for a newborn except for carrycot/pram/cot/car seat/clothes?

Snipples getting signed off might be the best solution.

Shehz21 · 14/11/2017 19:41

justtheonethen oh forgot to say, it's so lovely your DH has felt baby kick! That must have been such an adorable moment, especially after the long wait with IVF.
I can't feel baby Shehz on the outside yet so mine will have to wait for sometime I guess.

Dead Is there any particular brand that I should be on the lookout for? I'd like something under less than £30 as well.

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 19:54

shehz ours is a nonbranded one and its just as good. We went for the size 120×60×13cm for extra thickness but it'll obviously depend on if you have a cot or cotbed or moses basket ect. You pay way more for the brand name which is why it's cheaper this way.

At the end of the day it's totally up to you. Mothercare have a waterproof one for £35 that we were looking at getting but then saw ours for cheaper and it was 3cm thicker. It doesn't sound like much but it makes the difference for me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2017 20:02

Hi all. I’m a fellow suffererer and try and pop in and support you all when Lucinda is absent

I was very sick and shared various stories - have to laugh or will cry

My bundle is almost 8mths and literally as I have birth my sickness and non stop nausea went away

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 20:18

shehz it really was so special. Made it all seem more real to him I think.
Think you can hire snuzpod and bed nest but there are cheaper ones. Or maybe second hand one with new mattress?

I have a good list my sister shared with me that I've been working on but it isn't all essential. Happy to share if you like.

blondes a survivor! Hurrah! We need you to cheer us on, you're what's keeping us going. So encouraging to hear the sickness went immediately.

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 20:18

Amazon also have some good mattresses for around £30.

CatalpaTree · 14/11/2017 20:20

Snipples you sound exactly like me. I had to get signed off in the end, 6 weeks I was off!! Entirely needed though. Now I'm working hugely reduced hours as it's all I can manage.

I kept on trying with everything and the harder I tried the harder it was because you can't 'try harder' out of an illness that affects everything.

You're not failing at everything, you are ill. I ask myself regularly, if I had all these symptoms and sickness, but it was caused by something other than pregnancy, would I be struggling on like this? And the answer is no, I'd be laid up taking anything I could to make it better!

I know it's not easy though, the above is meant to be supportive xx

LucindaE · 14/11/2017 21:05

Catalput Welcome, or welcome back - not sure if your an old timer with a new name or a new person. Anyway, as you have an LO from a Hyperemesis pregnancy, you are a veteran and don't need my advice about kesostix and flat full sugar coke, ice lollies and the fruit and juice of tinned fruit. Good advice with that 'apologise don't ask permission' approach! I like that expression.
Eveyone - on annoying comments, I think 'Why don't you change your diet?' to be fairly annoying. Wink
winky That does sound unreasonable.
Snipples I am happy you are asking for reduced hours. You probably deserve a medal struggling in.
Shehz21 and Natsku Those people sound so generous.
anewjourney Have they refused pre-emptive meds?

DeadDoorPost I hope she has gone into labour naturally and pre-empted them, and that its an easy one, anyway!
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

BELLAARA · 14/11/2017 21:21

Hello all,

Has anyone taken Odansetron up until they've had their baby, and if so did they just stop taking it after the baby was born or did they have to cut down gradually?

I've had the pharmacist imply that if I've been taking it for so long I shouldn't just stop and my GP say it was fine to just stop.

Has anyone else been in this situation and if so, how did you play it?

Many thanks.

anewjourney · 14/11/2017 21:26

No Lucinda - haven’t been to the GP yet as only found out last night! Not sure I’ll be taking any anyway. Too scared of side effects (not on the baby, on me).

Going to call local ward tomorrow and ask them what the plan will be if I want to go in a few times a week for fluids, which is what a midwife said I could do last time. Fingers crossed they’re not difficult about it

Oklahoma · 14/11/2017 21:45

Blondes how is your little one nearly 8m old?!? That is terrifying, and means I have been on this thread way too long...

Belaara you should be fine to just stop taking it. I did last time and most of the people on this thread have done the same as far as I am aware. I certainly haven’t heard of anyone being told to wean off it for any reason.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2017 22:13

Yep. And crawling. Well backwards 😂😂

I survived on chicken cuppa soup and fruit pastille lollies and melon in the early weeks. Was also the very hot summer Aug sept 2016 and I hated the heat

Usually a sun worshipper

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 22:32

bellaara I've been taking it all the way up to the end (due on sunday) and plan on stopping as soon as I give birth. Although it might happen earlier because I CBA to get more tablets and I run out on Friday I believe.

questsabelletreetop · 14/11/2017 22:38

Thanks to all of you who answered my plight, the advice really helps. Too many to answer personally but I have taken on board everything mentionedFlowers

questabellatreetop Welcome - the name is familiar; very striking.

You may recognise my name from an old HG thread Lucinda, I lost a baby in JuneSad
Xx

Natsku · 15/11/2017 06:25

I am really wondering about the essentials for a newborn except for carrycot/pram/cot/car seat/clothes?

Newborns really don't need much, car seat, pram and carry cot and clothes obviously, some place safe to sleep (which for a newborn doesn't need to be a cot because they're so small, basket or box) and a shit ton of muslin cloths (handy tip from when DD was a baby, put a muslin cloth under their head when they sleep so when they inevitably spit up milk you don't need to change their sheets, you just swap for a new muslin cloth)

Natsku · 15/11/2017 06:25

Oh so sorry to hear that quest

justtheonethen · 15/11/2017 06:41

Sorry to hear that quest Sad

natsku great tip!

Another bad night of sickness here. The minute I think I've got a vague handle on this it kicks my arse again.

Yogamatcat · 15/11/2017 07:02

Newbie here. 5 weeks pregnant and started with retching/sense of smell/nausea last week.
Last pregnancy it escalated 6-7 weeks and was awful for months. Never admitted to hospital but did have tablets.
Reading above is vit b6 a good idea to start now? Was going to see gp, but I don’t think I’d get a preemptive appt - you have to be pretty damn ill to get in!

justtheonethen · 15/11/2017 07:07

yoga definitely but ideally alongside cyclizine/avomine. I would say that potential hyperemesis is a reason for an appointment. Phone them and insist! Congratulations!

Snipples · 15/11/2017 07:10

Hope everyone is battling on today. I halved my metoclopramide this morning and I feel a bit more awake. It’s put me a little on edge sickness wise but so far managing ok.

Natsku · 15/11/2017 07:24

Def try and get an appointment, explain that you had HG last time so you need pre-emptive care this time to prevent it getting too bad. Start B6 now while you wait for an appointment.

Not really sure how I'm feeling now, second day without medicine (didn't vomit yesterday but felt nauseous most of the day but I managed to eat dinner) and feel a little bit off but not too bad. Maybe, just maybe, I can cope without the meds.

DeadDoorpost · 15/11/2017 07:37

Good luck natsku with the no meds.

I managed to sleep almost for a normal length of time so far from last night so hoping I've managed to shake off the bad sleep. The temp here has dropped from the feel of it so I'm colder than usual and wrapped up in my thick quilt... I shouldn't be this cold but I am.
I can also safely say to my DM that having a curry and sex does not bring on labour after she was adamant that they would. Just because they supposedly worked for her...
