I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Oh Natsku that’s not great, I really hope it improves, you are a braver woman than I.

Oh god Dead that’s bloody depressing especially the dream. It’s your brain mocking you for sure. I’m starting to feel like I just want it all over and done with and I’m only 35 weeks so I feel for you. Just feel as sorry for yourself as you like and make sure you treat yourself to nice things that make you happy. You won’t have time soon enough.

Oklahoma is right though I was definitely latent labouring for 2 weeks+ with mini it’s frustrating.

How you holding up Oklahoma?

Natsku · 14/11/2017 10:30

Hope you don't have to wait two weeks Dead especially feeling like you do. I guess I was really lucky with DD, had the bloody show one day, that night some pains that eased during the night, and the next morning full-blown labour by 10am (while I was in the middle of a benefits meeting - told the social worker that I reckoned my family size would be increased by the end of the day Grin )

I called the midwife, she's going to get the doctor to call me on Thursday, I just hope that she doesn't call while I'm in DD's appointment as I can't really answer the phone then but I really need to speak to her!

LucindaE · 14/11/2017 10:50

winky This positive thinking is unfortunately too often a sleight of hand for 'blame the victim'. The people who insist on it seem unable to face the fact that for whatever reason, life can be very unfair and peopIe suffer unfairly. To me, it shows a serious character weakness Angry rant over.
Glad everyone is finding the thread, and I am sorry again I left it so late.
Star to DeadDoorPost. I hope it gets going. I hope that BlueButTrue has been absent is excellent news!
anewjourney Congratulations. Flowers.
Natsku They made you attend a meeting that late on?!

Thanks everyone xx

So glad to hear it’s not as bad as the first trimester all through out for some. Keeping everything crossed!

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 12:05

I think Blue had a c section planned for this week if I remember correctly? Unless she did end up going into labour. I remember her DM causing some trouble about it with the way she'd expressed her feelings...

Natsku · 14/11/2017 12:19

Oh yes Lucinda had to attend a meeting every month back then! It was alright, not like benefit meetings in the UK, it was just to go over our finances for the month so they could determine how much money we needed that month.

I've just been looking at the hospital website for where I'll be giving birth and it's changed since I gave birth to DD - now they have 6 family rooms on one of the post-natal wards so OH might be able to stay overnight, and if me and baby are both healthy there's the option of the patient hotel which has lots of family rooms (and restaurant meals instead of hospital meals Grin ) where even DD can stay too

CatalpaTree · 14/11/2017 13:23

Found you all!

Flowers to everyone on the thread as we deserve them.

Having a dreadful day. Anyone had side effects from medication?

This metoclopramide is making me so tired, it makes the first 12 weeks look easy, I need to sleep around an hour after taking each tablet, it’s like i can’t fight it no matter what!!

Can we have a HG bingo card for when we’re with well meaning relatives? If I hear “eat little and often” one more time, argh!!

natsku great news on family rooms. If I give birth in MLU (on same floor of hospital as labour ward) DH can stay. If I give birth in labour ward, he can’t. Unless there is some reason to stay for the baby, I’m getting out of there asap! But then this is number 2 so I’m more confident than last time!

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 13:41

catalpa Grin 'have you tried ginger?' 'Keep biscuits by the bed'
I'm getting angry just writing them!

Hugs and Flowers to all. Especially those waiting for labour to start.

anewjourney · 14/11/2017 13:44

Yes Cata I had side effects from Prochlorperazine. Ended up in hospital with them.

I didn’t realise until after I was better and did tonnes of research that anti-emetics can often cause extrapyramidal episodes, esp. the one above and metoclopramide.

winkywinkybumbum · 14/11/2017 13:47

Hugs to everyone.

We work together and today I let her know that I may need to nab a meeting room and work away from people if/when it hits to stop the stimulus that triggers. Apparently I must not do this as I will isolating myself and therefore will bring on ante natal depression. She just doesn't get how overwhelming it can be. Even the wrong light made me want to be sick last time. Grrr.

Natsku · 14/11/2017 14:01

Metaclopramide gave me diarrhoea and did sod all for the sickness (worked for me before for concussion sickness though). The doxylamine hasn't given me any side effects except for sleepiness but as I take it at bedtime that's a good side effect.

CatalpaTree · 14/11/2017 14:02

winky sounds awful. I had to be very firm with work about screens, lights etc making me sick. A computer screen makes me sick almost instantly which isn’t great for work!

No idea what to suggest but you could adopt a kind of “ask for forgiveness not permission” approach so do what you have to do and then deal with the consequences rather than ask in advance. It is the only thing I could do at work and they eventually are going with it, even if they still don’t get it. So if you’ve told them you’re pregnant and say you had to leave the room and be in the dark after you’ve done it, what will they do? (If the answer is something really bad then ignore my rubbish advice!)

CatalpaTree · 14/11/2017 14:12

just I’d also add, “well it’ll wear off soon”
I’m in my third trimester later this month, I’m not pinning hopes on it wearing off...with my first it didn’t wear off until month 9!

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 15:13

Add to the bingo card: "drink lots of water to keep hydrated" Hmm if I could keep hydrated I wouldn't need the tablets or the threat of hospital.
Tree The first time I had cyclizine i slept for 2 hours. After that it did nothing else. It did however stop working a week and a half after I started taking them. Then I tried Metaclopramide and it was fine until the date of my 12 week scan. It did absolutely f all. I threw up so much that day I lost 7lbs. Prochlorperazine did f all too. Ondansetron has been the only decent one but the constipation hasn't been too bad as I don't go often anyway (never have done even as a baby) but with the iron tablets I had to take... flip me that was horrible. I came off them pretty quickly.

It's interesting though. My dad takes cyclizine and ondansetron for his kidney and pancreas problems and he finds the the ondansetron doesn't do much but the cyclizine knocks him out 😂😂 he's a big built guy so I find it hilarious. Something that had no effect on me has a huge one on him.

Snipples · 14/11/2017 15:17

Oh Cata I just came on to say about extreme drowsiness. I am like a zombie atm. Cannot stay awake. It’s awful.

Ended up back in hospital at the weekend after vomming 9 times in 24 hours. Seriously dehydrated. Back on the drip.

They’ve put me on metoclopramide, ondansetron and ranitidine. I am so tired and drowsy all the time I cannot concentrate.

Had to get sent home from work earlier and think my boss is getting fed up but I just cannot function.

Oklahoma · 14/11/2017 15:18

We had a bingo card on here a few months back, let me see if I can dig it out

Natsku · 14/11/2017 15:19

Oh no Snipples I hope the med combo works

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 15:21

oklahoma good luck with the digging 😂
snipples that absolutely sucks. emu had a good blog post on the previous thread, and there's been a shared article too that someone found about HG. I'd be tempted to send them to anyone who starts to make comments. Or even remotely looks like they're about to start making them.

Snipples · 14/11/2017 15:23

Has anyone tried vitamin d? What strength was that? Do the b vitamins work too? I need something less drowsy to try. Thanks

anewjourney · 14/11/2017 15:35

Snippes I am taking 100mg of B6 once a day. Sickness hasn’t started yet but will let you know how I get on with it!

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 16:38

B6 (10mg-25mg up to four times a day) works best alongside one of the antihistamines. See attached. It mimics doxylamine I think?

I would stick with the strong meds though at the moment snipples, once it gets to your stage b6 is unlikely to work. It's best prophylactically.

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 16:38

anew might be best to take smaller amounts throughout the day?

justtheonethen · 14/11/2017 16:41

DH felt the baby kick today for the first time Smile
He would have been able to earlier in the week but he wasn't being patient enough.

Realised that through the generosity of my friends I now have nearly all baby stuff given to me for free and I haven't bought anything Shock
I only need to buy a car seat, Moses basket mattress, cot mattress and a changing table.
There's the upside to infertility, everyone has finished their families and is happy to give away stuff!

anewjourney · 14/11/2017 16:48

JustOne Need to get a pill cutter!

DeadDoorpost · 14/11/2017 16:53

just if you want cheap cot mattresses etc we got ours on eBay. Just as good, waterproof cover etc and easy enough to replace without damaging the bank account if anything major happens (like a very very leaky poo that can't get cleaned out of the mattress etc). We payed less than 30 for ours. Its great.
