Glad your scan went well Daisy and great news on the GD!

We also had our growth scan yesterday. Baby is small (measuring on the 10th centile) but is following a normal growth pattern and is within normal range. No one really seems to know what’s going on with my appointments and I’ve basically been told I might get letters for future scans automatically or I might not, and either it’s way it’s fine. If I don’t and baby’s growth drops off they’ll pick it up when measuring the bump at my midwife appointment and I’ll get referred then. It’s all very wishy washy but as long as baby is doing ok that’s all that matters!

To be honest I’m the opposite with food at the moment and seem to be eating less again now than I did through the 2nd trimester. Could probably have done with cutting down though... 🙈

I got some more BH earlier today. It was while I was walking the dog and just after the OH and I had had a row. Felt so guilty for getting stressed as I’m worried that contributed to it - I’ve not had any for a good couple of weeks. I think his emotions are running high now we’re in the final stretch 😂

emvy · 20/01/2018 15:18

Whoops, I forgot to refresh the page so my message is completely out of sync - sorry everyone! 🙈

You all seem so clued up on the carriers! A carrier will be important for us for dog walks but I’m literally going with 2 that I’ve been given - a wrap to begin with and then a bit more of a sturdier one for when he’s bigger. It does both front and back so will be good for as he grows. Hadn’t thought about getting baby in and out independently though, will have to check that! 😬😂

Amy, glad you’re feeling more positive. Baby does have plenty of time to turn and there’s no saying you have GD yet so definitely don’t get ahead of yourself! Really hoping it all comes back clear and you can have the birthing pool.

AnnaMadden · 20/01/2018 15:31

Another sneaky peek at our naughty Peanut today who was hiding and wouldn't wake up for their photo shoot!

I've bought a Moby wrap as a starter from a pre-loved fb page to see how we get on with it. Then maybe we'll purchase a Hana for the summer...potentially something more structured when he or she is older.

Everyone I know uses pampers and that's what we've stocked up on.

@HarryHarry this link might be helpful it lists the differences between the 3 Ergo carriers.

mbeans.com/spillingthebeans/baby/baby-carriers/ergobaby-carrier-comparison-ergobaby-original-vs-ergobaby-360-vs-new-ergobaby-adapt/

The main difference is that the 360 needs an insert whilst the adapt doesnt, think that's why they call it ergonomic. Also 360 allows facing out (that's why i guess the 360 thing) but I'm against it as baby's hips could be damaged. More info www.sheffieldslingsurgery.co.uk/2016/07/21/the-fuss-about-facing-out/

I've got a few friends that use carriers some do forward facing and some dont, most of the ones that dont .

I will also go to libraries once baby is here, tho i will go and try the hanna wrap soon before DD so that i get one.

@amy glad to hear you;re feeling better. I always think that I dont mind which way I deliver as long as baby is OK as that's my main concern. I also feel that i'm failing in pregnancy but because Anxiety is like my shade and follows me day after day so spent 50% crying and really not enjoying this chapter. Pregnancy is tough isnt it? i'm sure once youve got the baby on your arms you'll forget about all those fears and realise how amazing you've done.

@AnnaMadden that's a cute one! Are you going for the bamboo one or normal Hanna? i think i'll get the bamboo as it helps better with temperature and i'm pretty sure 2018 is going to be the hottest summer ever (haha i've got high expectations dont do i ? :))

Been to the photography shop where i'm being taken my bump pics in a couple of weeks, i keep thinking i've got a small bump but the guy in the shop said it's perfect and he said : are you carrying a boy? I was so surprised he guessed it by the shape of my bump :)

@pinkflamingo121318 your dates seem to change :) we should see which one is it finally :)

Thanks for that Daisyland. You're right about the insert - but I think the instructions say you can use it without one once the baby weighs 12 pounds. I didn't know that about front-facing carriers either, yet another thing to worry about! I'm also anxious about getting a bouncy chair as they look quite uncomfortable and some people say babies shouldn't be left in them for more than a few minutes because of spinal damage or something, and that they certainly shouldn't be allowed to fall asleep in them. Yet I know dozens of people who use them all the time without any obvious problems. Can you tell I am a first-timer, panicking about everything?!

AnnaMadden He/she is a cute one!

DaisyLand · 20/01/2018 16:05

@HarryHarry we can join the club "FTM Worrirers :)" I didnt know about the bouncy chairs neither but a friend told me so i thought of not getting any neither cuz of that. Tho i also think god how are we in this world if our parents did all those things with us 30 years ago that now are forbidden :)

AnnaMadden · 20/01/2018 16:08

@daisyland...if we get in with wrapping I'll go for the bamboo...much cooler. Especially as we'll be in Lanzarote in June then again in Sept...I'm with you though...gonna be the best summer weather ever! 😂😂

amysaurus87 · 20/01/2018 17:44

@daisy for sure. Whilst I would love a water birth and at the birth centre I'm certainly not going to push for it if I'm advised not to. I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to harricot (nickname for baby) I'd rather have a happy, healthy baby over the birth I'd like to have.

Haven't really thought about slings yet, bit it's something I will be looking into! Got no idea where to start though!

Think I've found the crib we want, we are looking at a Snuzpod, as it's will fit the space we have...being in a 1 bed flat is hard! Hoping to move once baby is here!

DaisyLand · 20/01/2018 18:03

I would love a waterbirth as well. They were talking about it the other day in my daisy foundation class. But also part of my thinks a planned c section would be better for my mental health, having suffered anxiety all along im not sure how would I cope with a long natural birth.

I like the snuzpod as well. And I love the snuzkot for when they grow. Been to toysurus. The one next to my house is one of the ones closing down but they barely had anything. They had a few bottles from merela or something like that , it’s the brand everyone recommends for breastfeed pumping but the discount was minor. So I’ll wait Til baby is here. They had the snuzpod but don’t think it had any discount. There is another toysurus 15 miles away so heard they are talking many things there instead of discounting them.

Hi!
If anyone is thinking about getting the Tutti Bambini, Mothercare has got £30 discount on it, taking into account they've got exclusivity of it it's not taken me long to place the order :) It's only in the grey colour tho www.mothercare.com/cribs/tutti-bambini-cozee%C2%AE-bedside-crib---charcoal/244783.html

Hi ladies

Sorry if someone has already asked this but - I've got my 28 week appointment this week. One of my friends is due on the same day, at the same hospital as I am. She has been told to fast, in preparation for her glucose test but my midwife hasn't mentioned anything to me.

Does everybody get the test or just women at risk for gestational diabetes?

I'm so confused!

AnnaMadden · 21/01/2018 19:18

@TexanInBristol you only get that test if your are high risk, family history etc. If you haven't been told you need it then that's a good thing 😊

TexanInBristol · 21/01/2018 19:38

@AnnaMadden That's what I thought! Thank you! I'm usually super rational but this whole pregnancy thing is seriously freaking me out and making me constantly second guess myself!!

AnnaMadden · 21/01/2018 19:52

You're welcome hun...it certainly plays with your mind lol

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 22/01/2018 04:38

@amysaurus87 I know that I'm a bit late to this party, but as someone who is also having a fairly complex pregnancy, so under care of obstetrics/high risk unit you have my full sympathies.

Don't worry too much about full spectrum tests - I think they just like to test for everything in one go sometimes, which is good if you think about it because it means fewer trips to the phlebotomist overall!

Sorry, too, that you had a shitty experience with the consultant - there's no need for them to be so blunt. That said, I'm also surprised nobody said before now that a birth centre wouldn't be an option for you - it seems quite unfair (I've known since before I even got pregnant and it was mentioned again at my first MW appointment).

Chin up! Sending you all the best vibes 😊

amysaurus87 · 22/01/2018 14:48

Thanks @icant I had some idea that a birth centre might not be an option and that it would be monitored though pregnancy. What's annoyed me is that the consultant midwife at the birth centre is happy for me to deliver there as long as nothing that would make me high risk crop up, and she is happy to keep reviewing it as pregnancy develops, it's the obstetric midwife at the hospital that is leaning to a no at the moment, but again wants it kept under review.

Got my 28week growth scan at 4pm! Will let you all know how it goes

Rae2017 · 22/01/2018 17:15

So I entered 3rd trimester today which is a great feeling but with it has come sickness all day. Im wondering whether it's more bug related rather than pregnancy. And in the last hours the top of my uterus is really painful for about 3-4 secs. Anyone any ideas what this could be?

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 22/01/2018 18:36

@Rae2017 I would call your midwife/doc/whoever - better safe than sorry

@amysaurus87 - hope it all went well!!

I was wondering if any of you ladies have any experience with GD? I had my GTT last week and just had the diabetes midwife on the phone to inform me the last of my results was high so I've got to go get some goodies (yeah, right) tomorrow so we can do further monitoring.

Anyone else gone through this? I'm not worried per se and tbh this has become par for the course (I'm also on crutches for PGP, but at least my BP is low!), just wondering what other people's experiences have been like.

julia02 · 22/01/2018 19:30

Hi there! I'm 27 weeks pregnant. From week of 14 in my shoulders, neck and chest appear some red spots. Today, I saw some spots on my tummy. I'm a little bit worried. There aren't painful. I don't know if anybody has experienced the same thing. xxx

amysaurus87 · 22/01/2018 19:45

Scan went ok, baby is measuring a little big (95th centile) but they aren't to worried at the moment. Current weight is 2lb 15oz according to measurements from the scan.

I don't need a GTT at the moment, I was told I could have it if I wanted it, but it wasn't essential.

Feeling much better, but still a little meh as I feel like baby being big is my fault at the moment

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 22/01/2018 20:30

@amysaurus87 these things level out, though. Baby might be big right now, but it might grow more steadily or slowly for a while. It's only an estimate at the end of the day, I wouldn't stress it if they're not 🙂

Bez9087 · 23/01/2018 10:49

@amysaurus that’s a fab weight. Iv got my growth scan Thursday can’t wait to see what they weigh now. Did you have one at 24 weeks? Mine was 1lb 10oz each four weeks ago so curious to see what they are now. One was on the 95th centile and one on the 50th no idea how on seperate centile when they both weighed the same amount unless ones longer than the other?!
I’m taking my sister in law on Thursday as dh can’t make it so she’s gonna come with me. I’m kind of glad as she’s a hca and is in last year of her nursing degree so will be nice to have her by my side.
Can’t believe we are on the home stretch now Grin

Pumpkinma · 23/01/2018 10:52

Hey everyone went for my private 3D scan last night and baby was being a stubborn little moo and would not move couldn't get a single picture 😂 was just laying there across my stomach with legs over it's head only clear image we saw was of baby's foot! Rebooked for next week to try again

She said baby is growing well and perfectly healthy though she estimated baby will be about 8lb at birth and baby is currently 3lb which apparently is bang on for me and baby so didn't get any pictures but reassured all is well can't believe I've only got 10 weeks left!!

pinkflamingo121318 · 23/01/2018 10:53

I'm so glad I had my scan and midwife appointment last week..

I have DS (nearly 6) and DD (4) off from school!
DS has chicken pox and DD has tonsillitis!!

I've enjoyed not having to do the school run - I was able to enjoy a shower at 8:30 while it was raining heavily outside!

They have played with play doh for 2 hours and are now playing Minecraft.

(I have already had chicken pox so I'm safe and I have yet to catch tonsillitis at all - even with DS and DH getting it around 6 times a year between them!)

FourForYouGlenCoco · 23/01/2018 13:26

Hi all, not posted for a while, just caught up on a few days’ worth of posts! Glad everyone seems to be getting on ok, amazed at how organised you all are! I’m 27+2 and feel like I have forever to go still - this is baby 3 for us so nothing much to sort out, but still.
Planning a homebirth here - keeping an open mind as there’s still time for all to go Pete Tong before D-day, but the other 2 were both born at home so would be nice to make it 3 for 3. I ended up doing both my previous labours with just TENS - couldn’t be bothered sorting a birth pool, and for various reasons I didn’t get g&a either time. So I would highly recommend TENS, but obviously also have nothing to compare to! Labour is a very different kind of pain than injury pain - more purposeful and sort of has a mind of its own - you can’t fight to control it, you have to almost just let yourself go with it.
Anyway, even if I stay on track for a homebirth, I’ll still need to pack a hospital bag in case of needing to transfer in - have promised myself that I’ll start getting stuff ready after 32 weeks or so! All i need to do is hospital bag, stockpile some wipes & nappies, get the 0-3 month stuff out the loft and rewash, and buy a new cot mattress, so really not much.
Still permanently exhausted but seem to have hit a bit of a nesting phase - have convinced DH that we need to paint the kitchen so on the way to sorting that! Think partly it’s the knowledge that if we don’t do it before this baby arrives, we can write it off for a good year or so, and it’s still orange-walled thanks to the last people who lived here - we’ve purged the orangeness from everywhere else and I want the last of it gone!
No scans or anything scheduled for me - measured slightly under at last appt but not enough to warrant a scan. Had growth scans with both my others thanks to measuring small and they were both fine, so thinking we might get another this time, but if not it’s all good.
