I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome to FiresideTreats. If you've been reading through the thread (grim enough reading), you will have read my spiel about flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit and other things - to which I think we shold now add mango - and 'have you got kesostix'. A lot of people find that a very effective combination. An anti acid can help, too, and also,as others say,I so agree do invest in some lactulose or those suppositories (but they do sometimes refuse them for pregnant woman in chemists, though they use them in hospital) in case of constipation.
Mustang and BATMAN Thank you for saying that; I hope this thread makes a difference.
Shezh21 Sorry, I had to rush off to Shrewsbury this morning, I meant to mention that sometime round 20 week hormone surge which it might well be that others have mentioned.
justtheonethen It is very hard to be so isolated. Can you stand listenng to audo books or the radio? Are there any relatives nearby who might call in now and then, or close friends? Cyber hugs on offer.
seize Ha Ha about funny description, very amusing. Well, this is a temporary persona.
Bunnyfluffy Good advice from Shehz21 On Avomine. A bit disappointing for you, if the dr wrote that having promised Ondansetron, unless s/he somehow mixed them up.
BATMAN Pollyfilla and others, I think everyone feels guilty about taking drugs, but as you say, what choice have you when the risks associated with being severely dehydrated for too long are far worse than any possible risk from taking anti emetics?
Attached is a HG poster woman of sorts...
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
Natsku · 20/10/2017 21:44

I don't worry about the drugs too much (mainly because Doxylamine is cat A so the safest as far as they know) but also because after having to take so many drugs and go through so many risky procedures while pregnant DD and everything turned out fine in the end, I figure this pregnancy is going so much healthier.

DeadDoorpost · 20/10/2017 22:25

So glad Kate could eat pizza, while I couldn't unless it was cold I did manage to always keep sausages down...
mustang crazy neighbour does seem to have broken his window but it's wet and cold and I don't want to go out and double check despite being so very very nosy...

justtheonethen · 20/10/2017 22:34

Thanks guys, you lot are the best. I think I would be totally batty without this thread.

polli I cry on DH a LOT but I just feel like a constant misery.

NonStopDisco · 21/10/2017 08:23

“Oh, Kate Middleton had hyperemesis, and she’s on her third” did not make me feel any better. I also can’t eat pizza, comes straight back.
justtheone sorry you’re having a crappy time. There have been weeks where I haven’t opened the curtains or showered, and just cried at DH when he got home. Didn’t see friends because I wondered why they’d want to see me in this state even if I did feel up to it. Have you spoken to midwife about how you’re feeling? It does get better.

Shehz21 · 21/10/2017 08:31

I do really love this thread and absolutely adore each and every one of youSmile
Actually I always feel sad when I look at the due dates list and realise how many of you members such as Mustang Dead Blue Oklahama Pippa NonStopDisco to name a few will be gone by the end of this year..
I mean I'll be happy knowing you'll have your wee one in your arms and will be the end of the suffering for so many of you but can't help admit that I will really miss you all.
As far as the rest of us are concerned, you all keep serving as reminders that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully we will be close to the end line as wellHalloween Grin

I totally agree that this thread is the best support "group" ever!

pippanippa · 21/10/2017 08:57

I'm sorry everyone, I haven't had chance to catch up on the thread properly, but just wanted to share some really good news.

Baby has put on weight at last so is now out of the IUGR danger zone. Still little, but not little enough for real concern. Sorry for the self indulgent post, but have been so worried that everything was going to go wrong, it's the first piece of good news we've had in such a long time. I am so relieved, in one instant the pregnancy has gone back from high risk to pretty normal. The great thing is this means there should be no need to induce baby early and a much better chance of a safe delivery of a bigger, healthy baby. I've still got the GD and HG to contend with obviously, and still losing weight myself, but feel so much better now that I know it's not affecting baby. Hoping you're all having a good day too - agree, this thread is a great support network Smile. Going to celebrate later with some jelly (sugar free - of course!), might not keep it down, but who cares.

LucindaE · 21/10/2017 10:01

pippa'snippa That is not self indugent, that is the best of news! I am so happy for you. I do think that in this age of scans, etc, pregnant women have worries that they never had before, not knowing what was going on, even if they sometimes have reassurance.
Shehz21 and everyone -A group of former sufferers on this thread set up a Facebook group for former Hyperemesis sufferers, so you could all join that to keep in touch? And we always love it when people call back in though life with small babies, then later going back to work etc is often busy.
Nobody should compare the apparent recovery of members of royalty with those less filthy rich! I haveno doubt that there are some wonder cures out there - with a startling price tag! So don't blame yourselves for not 'getting on with it'.

OP posts:
Ameliablue · 21/10/2017 10:04

That's great news Pippa.

justtheonethen · 21/10/2017 10:51

pippa that is brilliant Smile

DeadDoorpost · 21/10/2017 11:26

That's really good news pippa!! And DH is happy for you too aha I always keep him updated on how you women are doing.
shehz I'll probably pop back on as I'm nosy as anything and like to know how people are doing. And after weasles mc earlier on this year ive got my fingers crossed for her this pregnancy sticks. So I'll have to pop back on to keep updated! (Hopefully she's avoided the HG too this time though)

Oklahoma · 21/10/2017 12:58

She remember that as we leave the thread more lovely people are joining and you’ll change from being a desperate-in-the-early-days member to being an able-to-give-advice-and-support-to-the-new-people member while all the while getting closer and closer to the pink castle.
You won’t be abandoned when we have our babies don’t worry!

Pippa that’s such great news, I am delighted for you.

I had a good sob on my husband this morning. I’m due a month today and I just have no idea how I’m going to get through it. I have oklette’s grotty cold now which doesn’t help but I’m really struggling generally. I’m especially fed up with the not being able to sleep and the vomit/sneeze incontinence. Pregnancy really is terribly badly designed!!

Shehz21 · 21/10/2017 13:47

Fantastic news Pippa!
Enjoy your jelly and I hope for you it stays down.

Oklahama That's true I will be slowly but surely waddling towards the pink castle while being promoted to 'senior member' lol. It was great to get to know you all nonethelessFlowers

Dead Aww will love to get updates about you and baby Dead as well!

Lucinda Will sure try to keep in touch whether on fb or on here with all former members.

Mustang27 · 21/10/2017 14:14

I’m not leaving please don’t make me lol.

I’m honestly over the moon about bump Pippa that’s great news & about time it came your way.

Pollifilla · 21/10/2017 14:48

Quick question - has anyone had any urine colour changes when taking ondansetron or cyclizine? Mine has gone bright orange, despite drinking loads today. Not much coming out either...

WTH?

dillydollydarling · 21/10/2017 15:37

Been having a really bad day and unable to keep anything down. Ketones are at least +3 so OH has sent me back to hospital. I'm lucky that the ward have given me open access so I can just go straight there.

Thought I was finally coping with the HG but apparently not :(

Natsku · 21/10/2017 15:41

Great news Pippa!

Oo that sounds odd, maybe someone will come along and set your mind at ease Pollifilla

Oh no dilly :( glad that ward has given you open access though, that's good at least.

LucindaE · 21/10/2017 15:47

Pollyfilla I wasn't on Ondansetron myself, but meds do seem to change the colour and also the odour of urine, and Builder's Tea colour is unfortunate, being the colour of urine when one is dehdyrated! I suppose you have to go by how much drink you have retained - and not having a a dry mouth, blurry vision, a headache, etc as if the doctors said your body was now in 'starvation' mode I suppose ketones will tend to show up, whether or not you are dehydrated? All very difficult.

Oklahoma You are so right.
On the references to the Pink Castle, new people may be puzzled about that. My family used to have a snakes and ladders board when I was little, and it had a pink castle on the last square. Because Hyperemesis is like a grotesque board game - drink a glass of water, go up a ladder, Bile Run, down a snake - I thought of people reaching a fabulous Pink Castle at the end of the run. Then lovely Blondeshavemorefun who used to be on here found the image of the Pink Castle.
Another storm - I hope everyone is resting as much as possible...

dillydollydarling Really sorry, missed your post. That relapse is horrible; I do hope you feel a lot better soon and this is your last ever admission before birth.

Pollifilla · 21/10/2017 16:11

Thanks Lucinda - I've sent hubby out to get some Ketostix to see what is going on in that respect. It feels like my stomach isn't working and absorbing anything. Everything I eat comes up totally undigested, hours later and still with a lot of watery fluid (sorry!). Gah!

Dilly - sorry you're having such a rough one :-(

Thanks for the pink castle explanation ;-)

NeedsAsockamnesty · 21/10/2017 16:29

Hi Lucinda

Me again.

Sickness hasn’t hit yet feeling sick has but I haven’t spewed yet, I’m estimating about a week before it does because I’m quite early still (dd 19/6) and obviously I’m comparing it to my other pregnancies.

I just wanted to say I’m feeling really really positive this time round because my GP is a superstar.

I currently have a huge bag full of anti sickness tablets (4 different types) and injectable cylazine with everything required to administer it myself at home when required.

This should pretty much mean I’m able to get a handle on it before it gets to the same horrific uncontrolable coma inducing state that’s happened before.

If you remember I’m the lady who has had an entire pregnancy spent in a HDU and whilst that was my worse it’s fairly obvious that if they let it get to the stage when it is uncontrolled it’s almost impossible to get a grip back on it.

I have also had my dentist cover the back of all my teeth with filling stuff so hopefully that will really help.

Being pregnant is still a secret at the mo so it’s nice to off load

seizethecuttlefish · 21/10/2017 17:52

Great news, pippa. Love a bit of good news to get me through.
She I know, it's strange to think that we'll be veterans at some point and loads of people will have had their babies. I'd like to think I'll still pop in from time to time.
Currently living off Coke floats. They seem to settle my stomach. I'm slowly convincing myself that their are healthy things in them. (I'm happily delusional, I know). I had a bowl of soup for lunch and feel rubbish.
Anyone tried acupuncture? Or am I just getting desperate.

LucindaE · 21/10/2017 18:50

NeedsaSockamnesty Welcome back. Of course, I remember you. I am glad you are well prepared with pre-emptive meds. To spend most of your time in hospital, you must have been by far one of the most ill on this thread, and all good luck this time.
Pollyflla That sounds horrible. I wonder if metoclopramide might help with the undigested food hours later as I've heard that it makes the stomach empty quickly? Some doctors are wary of prescribing it for long because of the low risk of twitchiness to the mothers, as you will know, as you've been researching.
seizethecuttlefish I had Acupunture and it did wonders for me, but I was very lucky,as there have been women on here for whom it has only helped a bit. I had a very expert Acupuncturist from the east. I have had different practitioners since, in an effort to get rid of my migraines, and none of them have helped much, so I wonder if he was exceptionally skilled or I was exceptionally lucky? It is so expensive and I do think they should think about having Acupuncturists in the NHS.

OP posts:
NeedsAsockamnesty · 21/10/2017 19:14

Metoclopramide Is one of the ones I’ve got in my bag, scares the daylights out of me but it is effective

DeadDoorpost · 21/10/2017 20:42

Metaclopramide was amazing while it lasted for me. Sadly it stopped the day of my 12 weeks scan so literally everything I consumed came back up. Lost 7lbs that day. Still remember it clearly coz while I should have been excited about the scan the vomiting was horrendous...

BabyDoor seems to not want to be shifting AT ALL he is still wedged in my hip. Not as uncomfortable but I'm wondering if that's because ive got used to it now or not. Either way, it's making my bath-shower awkward (I sit in the bath as we don't have a ropwr shower so have the ones that attach to the taps.)
I'm also making that start on my hospital bag as I'm 100% convinced I'm going to be early. Mum mum had 4 and all of us were early, me being 10 days early...
