I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

GummyGodess this is my third HG pregnancy and all girls.

seizethecuttlefish · 23/10/2017 08:07

Sally weirdly we had chicken for dinner. I had one bite and gave it to DH as it tasted weird. I'm hoping not to add this to the huge list of things that now taste chemically.
Gummy this is my second HG pregnancy, first was a boy. My sister had HG with both. A boy and a girl bit said the pregnancy with her daughter was better as she had no sickness weeks 20-30. This pregnancy feels different from my last. But I suspect that because I'm five years older.
Wish me luck ladies. Doing battle with the dragon on reception at my drs. Have only been sick 3 times this week. So ondansetron is helping but I have continual nausea and am still retching constantly. I feel lousy if I stand up. As you can imagine this is doing wonders for me and I have horrific constipation. Lactulose is not moving it and I need a plan b. I am also meant to be at work today but as standing up is an issue....
Since the sickness calmed down I'm now convinced that the dr is just going to tell me to get a grip and get on with it. And I don't think I can.

DeadDoorpost · 23/10/2017 08:24

seize fight your corner. If you're still not feeling recently functional then you're not well enough to be doing normal things. Good luck!

GummyGoddess · 23/10/2017 09:22

If you can't stand without feeling horrible then the doctors need to help you as you're clearly not well enough to leave the house.

seizethecuttlefish · 23/10/2017 11:19

Dr was great. 2 week line. He was amazed that I can take cyclizine and ondansetron together. Pointed out that I could have continued to take the bucastem as well but chose not to as it didn't work. I've given him the link to the pss charity and tried to educate him a wee bit more. He did say there was not a lot of options for the constipation. So more water and more fruit. Ironically, our fruit and veg intake has gone up so much that DH has the runs!
Today I'm going to celebrate the positives. I'm not as sick. I'm eating better. I'm not dehydrated. I have my scan tomorrow. It's my mums birthday and she's coming round to see me as apparently that will make her happy.

DeadDoorpost · 23/10/2017 11:31

Glad that he was helpful! (Kiwi fruit should help constipation btw) seize

I'm currently putting my cot together and then I may or may not venture out into town to do some more Christmas shopping for my secret santa

Snipples · 23/10/2017 15:42

Hi everyone. I was wondering if I could join in - I've not been diagnosed yet but think I'm heading that way unfortunately - going to the docs tomorrow.

I'm seven and a half weeks pregnant and feel utterly dreadful. Since just before six weeks I've been vomitting about 4 times a day. I'm constantly nauseous. I can't eat much. I had to come home from work earlier as I can't even keep water down. I've only managed two ice pops in 24 hours.

I'm worried the doc is gonna put me on a drip. I've been trying really hard to battle on as I didn't want to be a drama queen but I'm exhausted and just need to rest. Does this sound like HG?

Sorry for the essay but I haven't really told anyone I'm pregnant yet and don't know where else to go for advice.

seizethecuttlefish · 23/10/2017 15:58

Hi @Snipples, does sound like HG. Scroll down and lucindaE gives out good advice about drinking and ketostix. First, congrats on your pregnancy and I'm glad you found us. We're all in the same boat. Thankfully there are medications you can try and things you can do. Dehydration is a worry, so sucking ice cubes and small sips of water all helps. Get a drs appt and check the pregnancy sickness support charity. They have lots of information. Unfortunately, some of us find that our drs are a bit clueless.
Ask away. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and not sure if have made it that far without these guys!

Mustang27 · 23/10/2017 16:08

Hey @Snipples I’m not qualified to diagnose but yeah it does sound like hg. Poor you but glad you have found the thread it really is a font of wisdom, Black humour and support. It’s not an easy road but please don’t think that a drip is in any way you failing it’s out of your control completely. My many visit to the hospital in need of a drip have done wonders, brief wonders I should add lol.

Listen to seize great advice.

Congrats on bump btw

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 23/10/2017 16:39

Dear god can someone please tell me that this all magically gets better around 12 weeks?

I'm 10 weeks and I have never felt so physically ill and mentally drained in my entire life. I thought ondansetron would give me some semblance of normality, but in reality it has just stopped the vomiting and I still feel like utter crap everyday. Not only that but it's getting worse.

I've tried my best to go to work today but I had to cut three meetings short so I could go and hide in the loo. I gave up at 3pm, cried on the way home, rang my GP and have got another week of ondansetron and a sick note.

Everyone very supportive but this is MISERABLE. I'm sick of myself so not sure how DH can stand it. I REALLY want to be in work, it does wonders for my mental health, but I kept listening to the words coming out if my mouth and they're all so negative. This is what happens when I get depressed.

I've taken to my bed for the week, may have to ring the midwife for a referral to the miserable pregnant women's group the GP keeps mentioning.

I'm so sad

Snipples · 23/10/2017 16:42

Oh god. I had really convinced myself I only had 5 weeks more of this shit left. Husband is on his way with ice pops and going to get me some keto stix (thought my poas days were over).

I'm going to docs in the morning but not sure how switched on they'll be (we live in Dubai). Going to bring a bag in case they send me off for a trip to hospital. At this stage I'm happy to try anything that helps.

Work don't know yet but I'm sure they'll have a fair idea soon as I'm getting greener by the week!

How have some of you coped with this shit for months?! You're heros.

Snipples · 23/10/2017 16:45

Batman that sounds grim. I hope having a bit of time off in bed helps and you start to feel better soon

justtheonethen · 23/10/2017 17:14

batman sorry to say it doesn't necessarily get better. I'm 20 weeks and the ondansetron stops the vomiting but I feel like shit all the time, nauseous, dizzy etc and spend most of my time in bed. I too spent most of my time hoping for a magic improvement at all the points my gp assured me it would, 12 weeks, 14 weeks, 16 weeks and definitely by 20 weeks. In reality it's no better. It's miserable but I think you have to forget work for as long as it lasts. I only do 2 days a month now and that wrecks me.
My MH health is in bits and I cry on DH all the time as I feel so useless.

snipples I hope they are switched on, take along the pregnancy sickness pages? The drip is the only time I've felt vaguely normal during this pregnancy so embrace it if offered!

seize try dried apricots, get me moving! Good luck for scan, enjoy seeing your mum. Your gp sounds really supportive. The actual throwing up is the least of it for me, be kind to yourself.

Shehz21 · 23/10/2017 17:16

Snipples I have lived in Dubai for the majority of my life and have moved to UK only since Feb this year.
As far as healthcare in dubai is concerned, my personal experience was the doctors can be quite dismissive and not really understand HG.
Because of that attitude and not enough help to go through a medicated pregnancy,I had a termination soon after when I moved back to the UK. It was too hard to actually bear it all without a proper support system at the time.
Thankfully in the UK I got more support both from a medical point but as well as an emotional/mental point.
However I believe you NEED to try and gently educate your Dr tomorrow at your appointment if they try to send you home telling you to get a grip and its mere morning sickness. Print off pages off the PSS site as mentioned by seize and let them know you are aware of hyperemesis and ways in which it can be coped.
Sorry you are having to go through HG nightmare but it will be a lot easier to cope with once you get the medecines which work for you.
Hope you get better soon Flowers

Batman It does get better, even if ever so slightly. Keep taking a day at a time and do get as much rest as possible. I couldn't even dream of working between week 7-14, fatigue or even just motion just made it worse. I literally spend those weeks lying down in bed as much as possible.

LucindaE · 23/10/2017 17:24

Just got in. Welcome to Snipples in Dubai. Glad you are going to the doctor in the morning. I am afraid after so little liquid, you will definitely be dehydrated. Glad ice lollies are on their way, and did you say kesotstix? They usually admit here with3+ ketones in the early stages, when it indicates dehydration - later on, those pesky ketones can indicate 'long term starvation'...Have you got any tinned fruit to see if you can sip the juice or coke to leave to go flat? Here's the normal list including those things.
Do invest in some kesostix if you haven't got them, to check for the early stages of dehydration. Some drinks and foods (of a sort) that people have found bearable. Flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, the juice of tinned fruit (and maybe the fruit) Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, Elderflower Water, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), orange juice and fizzy orange; cuppa soup, cheap ice cream, nibbles of crisps, slices of melon (maybe frozen)and mango.
BATMAN Snipples and everyone. Really sorry that this does hang around later than normal ms - it gets a lot better for most people between 14 -20 weeks. To be honest, with ordinary MS from what I have heard 14 weeks is more typical than 12. Even for those who suffer throughout, it is very rarely as bad later on as it is later on. You will get there. Take each day at a time.
Happy wedding anniversaries to seize and justtheone.
seize I so agree with others, ifyou are too ill to stand up, you can't work. Glad the doctor was helpful. Many people on here have found that those suppositories for the back passage at Boots are really helpful - but they won't sell them to pregnant woman, although they use them in hospital. Can you stand prunes? Cocoanut is not nice to bring up...
Sally Mustang and was it seize, I don't wish to force my free range ideas on you, but was that free range chicken or organic as that is guaranteed free of chemicals, while the super sensitive taste of Hypermemesis may detect it in more intensively reared fowl?
GummyGoddess Congratulations on a vomit free day.
Natsku I am so glad you have got your normal appetite back.
Ameliablue While it seems that most food aversions acquired during Hypermesis do go over the years, I so agree that there are one or two which linger. I will retch ifyou show me an iced gem, now, 23 years later.
DeadDoorPost I hope that she moves on to someone else. I think in your position, it is hard to be sorry.
justtheone Four years and IVF. That is indeed a wanted baby.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. I hope Pollyfilla and Needsasockamnesty and everyone is coping. Watch me cross post after this marathon of a post.

I'm so sorry to hear that Shehz - that must have been awful to go through. I've had my doubts already about how switched on the docs will be, I mentioned sickness to her on sat as id thrown up blood and she was a bit dismissive and said it was normal. I will push them tomorrow for some help.

justtheonethen · 23/10/2017 17:30

Throwing up blood is definitely not normal snip! I would really push her and take those guidelines. Sounds like you might need them. Will be cheering you on.

Shehz21 · 23/10/2017 17:31

seize and justtheonethen Sorry I am late but still..
Happy Wedding Anniversary ladies Flowers

Amelia Well a couple of food aversions I can live with I guess as long as i get back to my normal sweet tooth me after having LO Grin

justtheonethen · 23/10/2017 17:33

Thanks shez and lucinda Smile

Shehz21 · 23/10/2017 17:38

Snipples Oh dear I hope and pray for you that you get the appropriate line of treatment. The nausea in itself can be so debilitating which is hard enough now along with vomiting blood..
That is far from normal. My friend is currently on Premosan in Dubai which is metoclopramide here in the UK and a lot of us HG sufferers are on that. They do sell it over the counter in Dubai but I understand you would feel better getting it prescribed from the Drs. Stress on "hyperemesis" as they tend to believe is it morning sickness...

Snipples · 23/10/2017 17:42

I'll get my husband to print some info off and we'll go in prepared. He will definitely push them if they fob us off

Oklahoma · 23/10/2017 19:01

Snipples I was going to suggest taking someone with you as when you’re that I’ll it is very hard to advocate for yourself.

Welcome and gentle hugs, we are all going through the same and are with you every step of the way.

Natsku · 23/10/2017 19:10

Good luck with the Dubai doctor snipples

OnNaturesCourse · 23/10/2017 20:59

Hello ladies.

Old timer back in town now she finally has Mumsnet back on her phone.

How is everyone?

My HG cleared up in the 2nd trimester but goodness the nausea is now back, esp during Braxton Hicks?! Hmm

Xx

DeadDoorpost · 23/10/2017 21:59

Welcome to snipples and welcome back natures
My sickness eased off about week 15 for whoever was asking (sorry I can't remember I'm on my phone) but the nausea came back about week 30 for a while. The very very odd vomiting session happened but it never lasted more than one session at a time thankfully. Nausea still hits me especially if I'm tired so if suggest making sure you can sleep as much as you can and eat snacks to help ease it off too.
Got the good news that my cousin is expecting again so my nan is all over the place with babies in the next 6 months 😂😂 2 GGC and 1 GC.

Baby still hasn't turned but I'm hoping he's slowly shifting as I feel like I'm possibly more comfortable but who knows.
And i realised today that I've been having Braxton Hicks. No-one told me what they felt like but my stomach seems to be tightening and then relaxing. I'm hoping it's a sign I'll go into labour wary too but that's surely me hoping I guess...
