Thanks all :) baby Liliana doing well. Born Tues 3:15pm (induced at 9:30am same day!). Had no pain relief before full dilation as they weren’t expecting things to move so fast. I think in reality my membrane sweep on Monday had started things off more than we realised, but from full dilation to forceps delivery (baby was distressed) was about 1.5hrs, inc transfer to delivery ward, 10 mins gas and air, epidural prep then forceps. Mental! I was genuinely shocked when I saw my baby. I was told induction could take 5 days not 5.5 hours! I think our experience was unprecedented! Xx

Hi Everyone! I'm due to become a first time mum in early Feb. Anyone else around that time? How is everybody feeling?:-D

ew1990 · 06/11/2017 01:14

Are any of you ladies breastfeeding?

SilviaE · 06/11/2017 07:34

Hello. I'm planning on breastfeeding. I have no idea what to do, so I am waiting to be booked on a breastfeeding class at my hospital :))

lydiangel83 · 06/11/2017 07:44

@ew1990 yes and it is bloody painful! I asked Midwife if anyone didn’t find it painful and she said no. What a serious evolutionary design flaw!!

I'm doing both now but mainly formula, I still breastfeed if he's really grizzly or express and put it in with his formula

TheLionQueen1 · 06/11/2017 11:19

It gets easier I think @lydiangel83 or I have found that to be the case x

Missonhartbaby · 06/11/2017 13:05

@ew1990 I'm breastfeeding, was very lucky as he latched on really well and it hasn't been overly painful for me unless he clamps on the end of my nipple when he's too eager! Haha. My midwife said it should never be painful if he is on correctly @lydiangel83? The first two days where my milk hadn't come in yet I was abit sore because he was on constantly to stimulate the milk supply. Apparently if you can makemit through the first two weeks then it gets loads easier :)

Can I join?
E.D.D 5th December (if little one stays put til then!)

ew1990 · 06/11/2017 16:24

@Missonhartbaby that's what I wanted to ask, milk came In this morning but since being born Friday she just wants to feed all night and I'm exhausted. Just need reassurance that it gets easier x

Missonhartbaby · 06/11/2017 17:07

@ew1990 yea it does get easier I promise, although my LO still feeds really often, been told it's normal for breastfed babies though to have lots of smaller feeds. He cluster feeds at night quite often where he gets really frantic and is on and off all night but I find that having him in bed with me really helps. I can lie him down next to me and latch him on and doze off then. As long as he's just on a mattress not propped up and doesn't have the duvet over him etc then he's fine :) congrats again on yoir little girl!

ew1990 · 06/11/2017 18:09

@Missonhartbaby so do you lie him on his back or side when he's in bed with you to feed? It's scary.

And thank you I can't help but keep staring at her she's ace x

lydiangel83 · 06/11/2017 18:17

@Missonhartbaby I know what you mean I think issue is tho I damaged them early on and now can’t heal as always feeding. I have had several midwives say it’s almost impossible not to get sore but shouldn’t be agony

@ew1990 I aspire to find more comfy ways if night feeding!

@Topsyloulou congratulations to you and lovely Iris 😘

@lydiangel83 have you tried nipple shields? They're fab if you've already got sore nipples as you can still feed but there's no direct contact so gives them time to heal. Hope it gets better for you!!
@ew1990 I lie him on his back and then I curl around him almost on my side and he'll just turn his head and latch on then. Took a few tries initially but it works for us now. We don't co sleep the whole time just when he's really fussy and feeding a lot because I found I was falling asleep while sat upright holding him and that's even more dangerous! Someone on another page sent me some great links about co sleeping and breastfeeding, il post them now on here for you :)

Thank you, yeah I don't want to co sleep but would be lovely to have a doze as the same as you I was nodding off and it terrified me, I'm sure we will get the hang of it eventually. I don't want to jinx it but today she's gone like 1.5 - 2 hours between feeds xx

Missonhartbaby · 06/11/2017 20:27

No worries :) that's about the same as max... going about 1.5 to 2 hours between feeds. And then he feeds for like 20-30 mins ish. Sometimes a bit less. I didn't want to co sleep either initially but the nodding off while holding him was scarier than having him lying in bed next to me. He does still go in his moses basket too for a lot of the night. Depends how tired I am I think!! He's 16 days and we're only just starting to work out a routine now with feeds and sleeping etc so just keep going with your LO, I'm sure your doing fab :)

ew1990 · 06/11/2017 20:42

Thank you, I spoke to midwife when she came yesterday about expressing some milk so my other half can do a feed at night to give me a break, I'm just gunna wait for my supply to properly come in.

ew1990 · 06/11/2017 20:43

@Missonhartbaby have you managed to get out of the house yet?

TheLionQueen1 · 06/11/2017 21:39

@lydiangel83 are you using nipple shields? That allowed my nipples to recover (tongue tied baby very painful!!) and still breast feed
