Thanks for the comforting stories they do help!

Hi... can I ask a more random question... we were obviously offered the nuchal measuring at our 12 week scan on Wednesday, we declined as downs wouldn't affect our decision and I think all of the risks and testing would just worry me... we also wouldn't have the amino because of the risk... Has anyone else declined or is anyone else thinking of doing so? Just interested as most people just seem to have it.

Brenna24 · 06/10/2017 22:12

That is lovely to hear Bell. Congratulations and I hope it all goes well this time too.

Lisara I have declined all testing as well. It wouldn't change what I do, so I don't see the point in adding extra stress. I haven't had any wobbles about not having had it done.

Hi all, baby Eliza was born at 10.43 weighing 6lb 1oz. We’re both fine. Baby has slightly low blood sugar so is being monitored.
Everything went to plan csection wise, had to have some muscles repaired whilst they were in there.

Thanks for everyone’s well wishes and thoughts 😊

lisara79 · 06/10/2017 22:30

@amyb1986 that's amazing news and a beautiful name. congratulations xxx

Brenna24 · 06/10/2017 22:43

Congratulations Amy. That is a good weight. I hope the blood sugar sorts itself out quickly. Eliza is a gorgeous name too.

Ah congratulations @Amy, and welcome to the world Eliza! So happy for you xx

@Lisara I declined the test because I said it wouldn't affect my decision, but when I got to the scan there was a lady being trained and they asked me twice if I was sure I didn't want it as they would be going over everything any way because of the trainee, and when I said oh I don't mind if you want to, they said I had to ask for it or give consent, so I did and ended up having that and the bloods done and came back low risk. Afterwards, I thought about it and am glad as if I was high risk it would be good to be prepared, rather than face problems later in pregnancy or when baby is born and be completely unprepared. It is such a personal choice though.

@DrBanner I have been so anxious I think it is part and parcel of pregnancy after miscarriage :( I really hope this works out for you and am sorry for your losses. Did you get diagnosed with incompetent cervix? X

DancingUnicorn · 06/10/2017 23:20

Huge congratulations Amy. Wonderful news.

Lisara the testing wouldn’t change my decision, but my dh and I decided we wanted as much info as possible. My hospital offers free harmony test if the nuchal test is high risk, so we’d be able to get more info and do any research we felt we needed, if that makes sense.

MsJuniper · 07/10/2017 05:36

Amy that is brilliant news! Congratulations on your lovely baby Eliza and to dd1 on becoming a big sister - she'll be fantastic.

On the subject of testing, we would not have changed our plans if the baby had Down's, but it would be good to be prepared for any surgeries and other challenges that lay ahead. I would be more concerned about Edward's/Patau's, as these are usually not compatible with life and I would rather know sooner and do what I could to prevent suffering. I went into the testing high risk based on maternal age (1:81) so it is a huge relief to have that risk factor lessened.

whyhastherumgone · 07/10/2017 06:39

Hope you ladies don’t mind if I join. Just got my BFP today, 6 months after a miscarriage at 11 weeks. Pleased but v nervous!

AmyB1986 · 07/10/2017 18:14

Thank you everyone. We are home already and settling in. Eliza’s bloood sugars returned to normal with cup fed formula. Continuing with breastfeeding now.
I know I biased but she is lovely and looks like my older two. They’re over the moon!

I’ll keep popping back to see how you’re all doing and wait for more baby news 😁

DrRBannerx · 07/10/2017 18:21

Welcome looking I'm here after 3 MC too and very nervous!
Haz I was still going through the testing and referrals as they only will look into it with three consecutive losses x

emvy · 07/10/2017 18:55

Congratulations Amy, wonderful news! Glad it all went to plan and welcome to the world Eliza.

In regards to testing, I found the decision really hard to make as all I could focus on was whether the baby was alive or not. I told the midwife to put it on my notes that I'd have it, but she said I could always change my mind on the day. The day of the scan, my OH and I had a proper conversation about it and I realised that if we didn't do it, it would just end up being the next thing I worried about, if the baby was alive on the scan. As MsJuniper said, I was more worried about Edward's/Patau's and also wanted to be prepared should we be high risk for downs, even though it wouldn't affect our decision to keep the baby. It is everyone's own decision though of course.

minniemouseears · 07/10/2017 19:33

Congratulations @amy glad all went well wow home already!!! Eliza is a beautiful name. Enjoy your little family x

Welcome more newbies amazing news wishing you happy healthy stress free (as far as possible ) pregnancies

In terms of testing we did as having older lo's I wanted to have time to prepare them if we did have a baby diagnosed with downs for any extra hospital checks etc may be needed once born but again was more worried about the other trisomy disorders which have much poorer prognosis my babies knew about my mmc ( my mum told them i was pregnant 😣)and we're upset for me and sad to know their sibling wasn't coming I'd want to prepare them as much as possible if the worst were to happen. That said due to my anxiety this time around I do still worry the low chance score is just that our "chance" is low without a diffinitive test we won't know till baby born obviously though certain developmental issues would become apparent at 20 wk scan so just a whole new set of worries going into that scan this time. But I my 1st pregnancy ended in a mmc also so ive never ever enjoyed a scan just stress and anxiety and glad when it's over. I feel a bit envious of people who get excited but it must be nice to just enjoy being pregnant with a few niggling worries t9 look at a positive preg test and feel joy rather than flashbacks of previous mc's but then I think my joy will come later when I get to hold this baby I want so badly I want to hold it tight right at the very beggining of that second line appearing and never let it go... and it will be worth the wait.... 19 weeks to go (ish)

Brenna24 · 07/10/2017 22:02

That is great you are home Amy and that Eliza is doing well. Of course she is gorgeous, how could she be otherwise.

Welcome looking. I am sorry about your previous loss and I hope that things work out for you this time.

Downs would not be a problem for me, but I did worry far more about Patau and Edwards. However DH is a very strict catholic and would never cope with a termination, even for medical reasons. So I decided that there was no point in spoiling the time we had with our baby worrying about how much it would suffer after birth. Thankfully the anomaly scan looks so good that I see very little chance of anything like that.

Just had a v.quick catch up (3.30am pregnancy insomnia/discomfort!) been a bit of a lurker recently but definitely had to jump back on to say congrats Amy on the birth of baby Eliza! Beautiful name! How exciting, cannot wait for more of us to start welcoming our precious bundles into the world xx

peachgreen · 08/10/2017 08:31

@AmyB1986 Congratulations! I’m so delighted for you, what lovely news.

Been off thread for ages as we just bought a house (!!) and it needs a LOT of work, so I’ve been sanding and painting and whatnot every hour God sends! Poor DH is going bonkers trying to stop me from doing too much!

We had testing done for the same reason we found out the gender - the more we know about this little baby, the more real it feels, the closer we feel to her and the more we enjoy it! My BIL has Down’s so we were slightly higher risk, and fully prepared and comfortable with what that would mean (although I should stress that neither of us would judge anyone who would consider a termination in that situation - I never want anyone to feel they can’t be open about their own feelings because there’s someone who has a loved one with Down’s on the thread) so I wasn’t that fussed about our risk level for that, but it was a relief to get a low risk for everything else.
