I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I can vouch you likely will sleep better Blue, I did and mini mustang one was not a great sleeper.

They do get it I think but in Glasgow it's probably drink related vomiting they might show a pregnant lady some sympathy lol.

It sounds more palatable Dead but the consistency gets me regardless.

BlueButTrue · 17/09/2017 10:23

Mustang Praise the heavens for you telling me that - I was feeling incredibly vexed at how I would possibly cope with a newborn if I'm sleep deprived and irritable with the baby still inside Sad

Feeling quite excited to some normal, back to myself sleep and only being woken by a cuddly newborn not acid reflux and gagging on Gaviscon consistency

LucindaE · 17/09/2017 11:09

BlueButTrue Most people's newborn babies sleep a lot - mine was the exception. But as I managed to be one of the tiny minority of sufferers who suffer for a while after birth (it did go after ten days) my experience is wholly unusual. I thought aniseed Gavison better than mint, too, but still found it nauseating and it only seemed to work for an hour or so. I became alarmed at how much I was swallowing.
Natsku That is fascinating, that they don't have those holes in shopping bags in Iceland (you did say, Iceland?) . Those holes mean people have to double up.
Much cooler weather of later for everyone, anyway.

Sorry to hear about the disastrous taxi journey Blue and lack of sleep. I am in awe of all of you who can stomach the aniseed gaviscon, I can't manage it at all - although I do find the mint pretty awful too. Disappointingly vomiting has resumed full force today, still, I had a nice few days in a row which was lovely.

Hope you're all having a restful weekend!

Flumplet · 17/09/2017 11:53

Well here I am. 7+1 unable to get out of bed. Constantly nauseous, vomiting, exhausted. I had HG last pregnancy and in all honesty forgot just how hellish it was. I have no idea how I'm going to work tomorrow. I had booking appointment with MW on Friday and she encouraged eating regularly and ginger (basically morning sickness remedies) and seemed to disregard what I said about having HG last time. I have no medication and i have no idea how I'm going to get any as I can't get out of bed to doctors. I feel like hell and to top it all off I now have a cold too.

LucindaE · 17/09/2017 12:21

Flumplet Welcome. As you are a veteran, I don't need to come out with my usual spiel about 'have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration' and the juice of tinned fruit and ice lollies and flat full sugar coke. Sorry midwife was so unhelpful - what meds did you have last time? Will a doctor come out for you? How dehydrated are you? Has the vomiting of fluids gone on for more than twenty-four hours? I believe if so, it is treated as a medical emergency. Alternatively, an ambulance to emergency might be the thing if you can't get there via a lift?
pippasnippa I hope that a few good days are a sign of many more to come! Sorry about returned sickness.

Flumplet Oh goodness Sad I remember being 6+ weeks something and literally crying over the banisters because I didn't have the energy or strength to sort out medication etc etc etc and my GP surgery weren't giving appointments for weeks.

I'm so sorry you're going through this again Flowers

May I suggest changing midwives? The one you have would irk me too much! She clearly doesn't take HG very seriously. I cannot stand ginger/mint based suggestions Angry

Natsku · 17/09/2017 14:39

Finland Lucinda yeah no holes here, makes carrier bags much more useful as sick bags and bin bags, much stronger plastic than carrier backs in the UK too which seem to rip really easily.

spearo21 · 17/09/2017 15:59

I can't take gaviscon as it's just such a horrible consistency. I get Maalox from the doctor which is an absolute godsend. Little bit chalky but it's a thin liquid that is minty. So so much better.

Hairgician · 17/09/2017 19:22

@Flumplet can you not just ring the surgery and tell them you need them?? I had to start taking cyclizine again this week myself and i just rang and said i dont need to come in to see the gp (They no longer do pre booked appointments here you have to ring on the day and gp calls you back)
But that I needed meds. She took my details and prescription was ready at pharmacy after 4 that day. Surely being as your pregnant they cut you some slack, esp if you had it before?

BlueButTrue · 17/09/2017 21:33

Hair I had to wait over two weeks to get anywhere medication wise... My GP's don't to pre bookables and they hardly ever 'call you back' - such poo.

It was so difficult, it's really hard herring anywhere with any surgeries

BlueButTrue · 17/09/2017 21:34

*some sorry

DeadDoorpost · 17/09/2017 22:46

Cheers ladies I'm going to try the aniseed one. Just my luck though that heartburn stopped today 😂😂
Got DH to move the flat around so it's looking better. More room now.
And I've woken up with a cold. Seem to have slept the majority of today so I'm probably going to be wake for the next 5 hours but I must have needed it.

DeadDoorpost · 18/09/2017 10:51

Woken up feeling rotten again. I think this cold is triggered something because I'm battling keeping food down after almost 10 weeks of not being sick. So much for it all easing off at the end... guess it means I have a big excuse to stay in bed and do nothing.

dillydollydarling · 18/09/2017 12:22

Off work and managed to get MIL to look after my 2 year old. I was feeling great until the past couple of days and this morning has been horrendous. I can feel myself getting worse and worse and I really don't want to end up in hospital again. Lost count of the number of times I've been sick today. I just want to sleep through the next 30 weeks or so.

justtheonethen · 18/09/2017 14:27

Hi all. Not really read back as been away but saw someone mention aniseed gaviscon, I heave at the smell! It's all awful though. Might try maalox.

Have been having a few good days here and there on holiday but I'm feeling horrendous now. I had about three days at start of holiday feeling ok on the higher ondansetron dose but then it all started going downhill. So so so nauseous all the time. I feel really miserable about the prospect of getting back to how I was but I can feel all the functioning I was doing slipping away. Sorry, moan over.

justtheonethen · 18/09/2017 14:27

blue just seen your taxi ride, I had a similar one last night, thankfully I had a bag, but it had a t shirt in it I had to bin Blush

Emu31 · 18/09/2017 14:55

Hello ladies,
Can I join please? I am 17weeks+4 and have been suffering with HG since week 5 - luckily I got meds early and have avoided hospital. I feel I am one of the lucky ones as I do have good days, and some days I feel almost normal for some of it, but I'm still being sick every day at least once (just once does feel like a victory though). I find myself feeling really fearful of going back to feeling so helpless and sick, I don't feel I'm out of the woods yet and the thought of returning to the bad days is just so frightening. Does anyone else feel like that on good days? I almost can't remember what it's like not to be sick every day.

I haven't really felt well enough before to comment but have read the comments on here when I was feeling bad and it really helped to see that there are other people going through it. It can feel so lonely and like no one really understands.

Hugs to you all going through this horrible thing xxx

spearo21 · 18/09/2017 14:57

justtheonethen Maalox is honestly so so good compared to Gaviscon! I think it's quite an old medicine - my doctor couldn't even tell me when the last time he prescribed it was lol Hope you are feeling better soon too! After my episode on Friday I spent the whole weekend still just feeling so so sick, was awful. Thankfully having a better day today! Hope a better day comes along for you too! x

Hairgician · 18/09/2017 14:57

blue that is pretty pathetic actually. I've never had any issue getting anything or getting seen while pregnant. Time to start pestering!!
Feeling completely wiped out today myself and soo thirsty!! Can't get enough water at all! Not vommed since this morn after getting tablet down. Time for a nap.

justtheonethen · 18/09/2017 15:38

Hi emu, that's exactly how I feel. I have good days then I get so anxious about getting ill again. It's so horrible.
I have whole weeks where I'm not sick thanks to the tablets but the nausea is relentless. So I think I'm one of the lucky ones too!

blue ooh I love an old medicine Grin. Will ask for it.

justtheonethen · 18/09/2017 15:38

hair enjoy your nap and water!

satsoooma · 18/09/2017 16:07

I couldn't deal with gaviscon back when i was feeling really sick. I got prescribed omeprazole instead and it is amazing. Not a spot of heartburn since. It is just a capsule, so no taste/texture and it seems pretty easy on the stomach. I also found I threw up a lot less after starting it, as I guess the acid from the heartburn was contributing to my HG. Would definitely recommend it.

justtheonethen · 18/09/2017 16:20

I have ranitidine but I need a little extra sometimes satsooma. Agree that gaviscon alone would be like trying to fight a house tire with a water pistol!

dillydollydarling · 18/09/2017 19:08

Been prescribed stemetil to try overnight. I imagine if that doesn't work they'll want to admit me tomorrow for fluids. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy
