I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome Sally and sorry to hear things are rubbish at the moment. Oklahoma I know what you mean - I now have an extremely clingy toddler...every minute is ticking by slowly! Mustang glad to hear a massage is worth it, I just need to find the time to book one now!

Blue it might be worth trying the screening - I only say that because I had absolutely none of the risk factors for GD and failed the test. The diet is hard with HG I can't lie, I am struggling constantly with low sugar levels due to the vomiting, but I guess still, better to know where you stand. Would it be possible for someone to come with you to the test to help if you're poorly. Or, if the test will be impossible maybe your hospital would allow you to do a weeks sugar monitoring (finger prick tests 4x a day) to monitor your general glucose levels instead? - it might be worth asking the question just in case.

Thank you ladies, I'm so pleased you've kept this thread going Lucinda! I've decided to start the cyclizine again so this morning I've had cyclizine and ondansetron. Need to try make some room in the freezer for ice cubes too!! Although the sickness is just as bad this time, I feel to a point, I'm better mentally prepared as I know it ends. Last time it was around 24 weeks. I'm hoping for a bit earlier this time. A little bit about me, I'm 31, married, with one little boy who's coming up 4 and just started nursery. I'm from the Newcastle area and really didn't think pregnancy was possible again due to severe endometriosis and scarring. So this is still a bit of a shock. I suppose part of me wanted a sibling for my son but the fear of hg again usually squashed those thoughts. But here we are anyway.
I've got an early scan on Thursday to check for viability etc and then I think I may have to tell family members as I'm going to need the extra support.
I've got some rather big things going on at home at the moment and the added stress doesn't help. We are in the process of having asbestos expertly removed and all furniture is crammed upstairs for the next fortnight, which is unfortunately where I'm residing as I'm stuck in bed with the sickness 😕 Cleaning is near on impossible and my home being in disarray for some reason makes me more anxious.
Hope for a better day for you all suffering and thank you again for all your advice xx

DeadDoorpost · 17/10/2017 11:05

Really quickly popping in as I've got to go out for the day suddenly (nothing bad thankfully just really last minute stuff) and the dreams have turned into crazy ones where I'm yelling and angry and anxious all the time. Not always pregnant in them but in a lot of them. I guess it's getting to that point now where I'm projecting everything into them.
And BabyDoor may have moved a tiny bit yesterday as I've not been as uncomfortable. But still can't quite tell

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 17/10/2017 11:23

Morning ladies. I've taken a turn for the worse the past couple of days and spent much of the night awake due to the nausea and dry retching. No work for me today 😔

Saw a lovely GP and begged for help, she said if it was taking three anti emetics to get me to this stage then it was definitely HG and would I like some ondansetron. I'll be taking it with the cyclazine and am hoping to feel like a new woman by tea time Grin she said there were some keytones (sp?) in my urine but not loads and was impressed with my hydration regimen. I don't really understand the ketones thing though, can anyone shed light? I understand they're bad and linked to dehydration

Mustang27 · 17/10/2017 12:03

Nobody seems totally on the same book when it comes to ketones tbh.

I have friends that live their lives in a constant state of ketosis as they are on ketogenic diets and they are some of the healthiest ppl I know. It’s all a bit sciency but a lot of medical professional will agree if their is ketones in your urine this is signs of starvation and not getting the right amount of carbohydrates in your diet.

However it also shows signs of dehydration or that certain organs are maybe having to work harder. Honestly you could get lost in it all. If your ketones are 3+ you will often be admitted to be put on a drip until that returns to what they class as normal.

Ondansetron took a couple of days but I’m hoping you feel better by tonight for sure.

Hope baby has moved a bit Dead and you stay comfortable. Still on crazy dream front too.

Just saw a thread by a fellow hg sufferer I’m going to share the link as mines isn’t working for her it’s likely due to the fact that I’m on my phone but who knows.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 17/10/2017 12:16

Thanks Mustang that's really helpful. GP wasn't concerned and she used to be an A&E dr so she's quite experienced. Also had HG herself.

I could be dehydrated but I've also been carb loading on the worst possible carbs so it could be that too. I can try and improve both.

Very much crazy dream central here too. I had a horrid dream the other night about eating green poo, and now every time I see that particular shade I think of poo and get an awful taste in mouth. I have synethesia so this may explain it a bit.

Also dreamt that Argos ran out of Christmas presents Hmm very vivid arguments in that one!!

Natsku · 17/10/2017 12:16

I'm being screened for GD on Thursday Blue no risk factors, they just screen everyone here. I'm really worried about drinking the sugar drink on an empty stomach even though my sickness isn't that bad right now (but worse than it was the last few weeks - have had to go back to taking a whole dose rather than half dose of the doxylamine), have to take DD with me too as its half term which maybe will help in distracting me from the sick feeling or then will just make me feel worse if I have to keep her entertained too (though there's a playground nearby so might just send her off there if I feel too bad)

seizethecuttlefish · 17/10/2017 15:06

Ondansetron has stopped me vomiting! I have rediscovered a love of grapes and fruit in general. Partly to try and get my insides moving.
Blue my gp constantly has me checked for diabetes. I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe me when I say I eat a fairly healthy diet. I was checked for gd last time and down to be checked again. It was the most horrible orange. Like diluting juice that hasn't been diluted. I did survive it but like you was not looking forward to it. I'd really like to not have to do it this time but no chance.
Mustang some good reading. I'm amazed how much the knowledge of HG has progressed in the 4.5 yrs since my last pregnancy. I hope it continues. The sample group is pretty small. I know a few women who suffered HG and am happy to report that all children are healthy. But who knows? Not enough research. Weirdly, I'm lactose intolerant. But have found I can drink milk now. So weird. Proof that pregnancy is wacky!

flobella · 17/10/2017 15:49

Hi, not sure if anyone has already posted this but I thought some of you might like to read this blogpost about hyperemesis:

mymiloandme.com/2017/04/its-a-bit-of-morning-sickness/

I thought of some of you when reading this as she talks about using the App PushDoctor to get medication as she couldn't face the wait at the doctors. I know all of us in the UK are entitled to free doctor consultations and that none of us should really have to pay £20 for this but I thought I would raise it in case it was useful for anyone.

Shehz21 · 17/10/2017 15:55

Mustang the link can't be opened from my side :( was looking forward to a good read especially when it comes to HG.

seize Glad to hear the Ondansetron is working!! And I have been loving grapes in my pregnancy. Hesitant to try other fruits though. Let me know if you find any other fruits that go down well ( Tried melon and unlike the popular liking for it,i couldn't stomach it unfortunately)

Sally Wishing you the best for your upcoming scan and hope thereafter you are able to announce the happy news to your family and thus have the extra support you will need.
I know from other mamas here how hard it is to look after their young DC while battling HG,I have utmost respect for you and all the others juggling between these two atm.
Crossing fingers it goes sooner than 24w this time for you Smile

Shehz21 · 17/10/2017 15:59

@flobella That's really kind of you to put this article out there. I think some of us do get to a point where we are ready to try anything to bring ourselves some respite!
I think I speak for all of us about dreading the wait at the doctors..

DeadDoorpost · 17/10/2017 16:02

I found I could keep mango down when all other fruits were a no-go

Shehz21 · 17/10/2017 19:16

Dead It's funny you mention mango, I just had some this evening at my mum's and it was yum!
Shall add that to my regime.

I have a pretty odd question to the ladies having boys, are your bellies more "roundish" like you swallowed a basketball or more like you swallowed a watermelon? I have had a sudden watermelon like belly and I am having a girl.
It probably depends from person to person but would still be fun to know?Smile

LucindaE · 17/10/2017 19:57

Sally I am so glad the thread is helping you.
Seize I do hope Ondansetron works for you. It's a long time ago, but I had a girl, and had a basketball belly that turned into a watermelon one!
DeadDoorPost Welll done on Christmas shopping. Flowers My goodness. Interesting about mango. I wonder about tinned mango? I swore by tinned peaches and tinned pears, but never tried mango...
Flobella Thank you for the link. Smile
BlueButTrue Oh dear. Can OH or a loved one give you a lift - while you keep a supply of bags handy?
Mustang An excellentanswer for BATMAN's question. It is so complicated, I gather. A doctor once told me that early on, before long term starvation sets in, ketones generally mean dehydration with long term starvation not necessarily! All very complicated.Confused
Shez Sorry about melon failure!
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Baby doesn't seem to be moving as much today, bit worried.

Mustang27 · 17/10/2017 21:31

Oh gosh Natsku if you think anything is unusual just get in touch with the midwives at hospital. It’s not worth the worry.

Californiadreaming15 · 17/10/2017 22:09

Hey, I’m just popping in to the chat. Will be 12 weeks tomorrow and I’ve had horrendous sickness so far. I’ve been on three different types of anti sickness tablets but they all seem to work for a day or two and then stop. I was given an injection today and have started avonmine, so fingers crossed. Been off work for the past three weeks and I’m desperate for some normality.

You have all these ideas of being healthy during pregnancy and then can’t keep anything down.

Misstomrs · 17/10/2017 22:24

Hi ladies, finally found you! Thanks Mustang for the signposting and for sharing the article. I hope it's interesting for those who want to have a scan through.
I'm not expecting, more trying to work out whether I could ever ttc again knowing how horrendous HG is. Can I ask how anyone managed it with a toddler? Last time I was on ondansetron + metroclopamide + proclorperazine from 10 weeks, lost two stone, could eat small quantities from circa 26 weeks but vomited throughout, including during labour. I basically moved from bed to sofa and back again via the loo...how do you cope / explain what's going on to a toddler??? Just looking for some guidance really. Thank you

DeadDoorpost · 18/10/2017 00:06

misstomrs don't have a toddler but apparently it's totally normal to throw up during Labour regardless of HG or not. I was talking to my midwife about it. Doesn't make me feel any better though. sighs there is always the possibility it won't be anywhere near as bad. My mum had HG for me and then each pregnancy after it got easier and easier, so by her 4th one she was nauseous but not sick at all.
california I gave up with healthy eating ideas after week 7 I believe. By then I'd lost half a stone and wasn't able to keep anything but sausages down. Weirdest thing ever for me.
seize glad to hear about the ondansetron working. Fingers crossed for you that it helps you eat more! Don't force yourself though; the it slowly. Don't make my mistake 😂
mustang baby has definitely moved but I don't think he's head down. I can't tell currently. My bump just seems to be a solid mass atm and I can't get a good feel at all.
shehz boy and a roundish bump I believe I have. But it could also depend on how she's laying for you? And yeah mango is amazing. It's my fave besides pineapple so maybe that's why it worked for me. Lucinda maybe mango would be similar to peaches etc. Should maybe do a test of it with some women how are earlier on in the pregnancies to see if it works? I also promise I'll post photos tomorrow of the breathing-in trick I mentioned the other day. I want to actually show you as I did it again today to show some others. They were totally confused 😂😂

DeadDoorpost · 18/10/2017 00:08

Oh, forgot to say mustang that I can't even tell how he's laying by his kicks either as he seems to be punching into me and it's still in the same area as before so that's no use.

And a lot of stuff happened today that's annoyed me/upset me/totally thrown me so I may or may not rant at some point. Apologies for that in advance.

Mustang27 · 18/10/2017 00:52

Rant away Dead! That’s what we are here for.

My bump dropped dramatically today and I’m definitely getting kicks to just under my belly button. It’s nice to have a bit more room but I don’t believe they are engaged yet as I don’t have that pressure pushing downwards in my hips.

I find it really hard to tell what part of them I can feel through my bump it’s frustrating.

Waves to misstomrs. You cope but you are full of guilt my 2 1/2 yr old has watched way to much tv to even be acceptable whilst I lay about with my sick bucket. He is adorable and runs my back and tells everyone mummy is sick with a baby in her tummy. Although he also walks about pretending to be sick in his own bucket it’s just become his new norm. My advice it’s get as much help as possible, family, friends or professional care givers so you can rest as much as possible. Only you can decide wether the 9 months of hell us worth it for your wee family unit.

Healthy and doing things like pregnancy yoga and antenatal swim classes Californiadreaming15 I’m 31 weeks and I’m lucky if I leave the house Sad.

Shehz mines is defo really round but I have no idea what I’m having so probably shouldn’t play this game as it defeats the purpose a little lol.

Shehz21 · 18/10/2017 05:42

Mustang Oh you've kept it a surprise! LovelyGrin
Mine is def not roundish but maybe it might change as I'm only 18 weeks Hmm

Dead I am one who will be looking forward to the belly trick pic!

Caliaforniadreaming I am on avomine with metoclopromide and these 2 together worked a treat for me! Hope it works for you as well.

DeadDoorpost · 18/10/2017 07:30

Quick question nefore I fall back to sleep: is it strange to wake up feeling not pregnant? As in, baby is moving slightly as though he's sleepy which is normal for this time in the morning but I myself do not feel pregnant at all? Just a little bit fat...i don't really know how else to describe it and it's actually worrying me a bit
