I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I wear my Apple Watch religiously and the data since May is just down right depressing but yeah certainly mirrors how iv been feeling

NonStopDisco · 16/10/2017 09:59

I have a moto 360 that I, for some reason, stopped wearing a couple of weeks before I tested +ve, and I never put it back on. I’m a bit disappointed because the progression through pregnancy would have been so interesting!
I now have an iPhone, and I’ve been wondering what an Apple Watch would be like, so tempted to get one.

DeadDoorpost · 16/10/2017 11:07

Disco I had major heart burn last night too. Actually resorted to the dreaded gaviscon. It's horrible. Even DH says it's weird.

NonStopDisco · 16/10/2017 11:38

Dead It’s called “minty gack” in our house, it’s so grim. Well, mine’s peptac liquid, which I’m guessing is a generic version of the same thing. I have omeprazole but the liquid seems to offer a more immediate relief.

seizethecuttlefish · 16/10/2017 12:01

Oh you've all reminded me of the joyous heartburn. I can't take gaviscon, I throw it up (even when I'm not pregnant). I'm currently timing myself (I love a goal). 30 mins of rest and 10 mins of doing something. That's involved a lot of hanging over the sick bucket but I need to give myself a wee push. I feel like life is passing me by. My friend just texted to say "it's raining and I bet you're out for a walk!" I'm in pjs, so clearly not but I feel like I'm losing the bits of me that were me. If that makes sense.
Anyway, dr called ondansetron demanded and lactulose. Here's hoping!

Oklahoma · 16/10/2017 14:09

I have completely lost the will to live today. Oklette has a grotty cold and is being just horrible (I do feel sorry for her - colds make you feel rotten). I feel like death, I can’t believe I have to survive another 5 weeks of HG hell. Apologies to those of you with even longer to go I appreciate that isn’t helpful but I have done 35 weeks now and the cumulative nausea, boredom and general grimness just gets a bit too much sometimes.

LucindaE · 16/10/2017 14:57

Oklahoma Poor you. I don't blame you for being fed up. It is very hard on women who suffer throughout. Moan away; you have been wonderfully supportive to everyone. Cyb er hugs on offer, if wanted.
DeadDoorPost I think they ought to ask before doing that! Your body, and your baby...
hoopledoop I had to smile over your 'Attractive nightie and good night's sleep'. Grin.
seize Very brave of you to attempt some action.
Mustang Disco and everyone - old fashioned Mother Hen says those devices sound sinister, tracking you like that! But the information is intriguing...
Gaviscon is so horrible, and the aniseed sort can produce alarming Pink Foam vomits. When I suffered, the midwife inisted that it was the only safe thing to take in pregnancy, but that is just not true...

Just want to join and say hello, I'm back 😩. Last time I was here my sickness ended after a week as my pregnancy ended early. I'm now back at only 6+4 with awful hg. I'm on ondansetron 3 x4mg a day and so far I'm still very sick. I literally don't know how I'm going to manage the upcoming weeks. I'm forcing myself to drink and eat something as I really don't want to end up in hospital again with a nearly four year old to look after. I'm managing to keep some fluids down. Can anybody tell me what meds are working best for them? So far the cyclizine has just made me more sick so I've cut that out and now just on the ondansetron but I know as it progresses I'm going to need something stronger!!

Mustang27 · 16/10/2017 17:02

Oh Sally sorry to hear of your loss and hg. It’s not a fun place to be. Crap your sickness has returned also.

It’s so much harder to manage when you have other kids as well. I was on ondansetron 4x4mg a day and cyclizine 3x50mg a day I’m now just on cyclizine same dose at 31 weeks it still being sick 2/3 times a day and retching well into double figures. Hopefully the others can come on and recommend what worked for them. A lot said changing from pregnancy vita to just folic acid and vit D ones helped their sickness massively.

Just rest rest and more rest!!! And moan on this thread it helps.

Hugs @Oklahoma you are doing so amazingly well, you are so close to the finish line. Grumpy poorly toddlers are the worst. My advice give her what makes her happy, chocolate seems to work for mini when he is poorly as often he won’t even look at food. He also likes sweet cups of milky tea which he drinks with a straw, he just keeps saying cup of tea in the cutest way. We have both been hit with a horrible cold so I feel your pain. It’s hard and the thought of labour and newborn fills me with dread.

Sally8655 · 16/10/2017 17:16

Thanks mustang, I'll try changing my pregnecare max to just folic acid and vit d. I was wondering if it was adding to my nausea!

justtheonethen · 16/10/2017 17:21

sally definitely change to just the vitamin d and folic. Made a big difference to the nausea for me. I have metoclopromide with 8mg ondansetron, neither worked alone but together made me functional.
Congratulations on your pregnancy, sorry you're suffering.

I have a stomach bug, vomiting like the early un medicated days of HG and awful diarrhoea. Makes a change from the constipation of ondansetron though Grin. Feeling really shivery and achy. Ugh.

Sally8655 · 16/10/2017 17:57

Justtheonethen, yes, tomorrow I'll be doing just that!! Feel a bit bad doing it though, I'm supposed to be on the higher dosage of folic acid and vit d due to having a bmi of 31 but struggled to keep them all down 😣 I figured at least with the pregnecare I'm doing the same as I did with my son who is perfectly healthy. I wonder if just the standard folic acid will be ok

Sally8655 · 16/10/2017 17:58

Ps, I hope your stomach bug moves on soon!

seizethecuttlefish · 16/10/2017 18:55

Sally I'd drop the pregnacare. From personal experience it made my HG worse last time. I'm on the high dose folic acid though apparently there is no evidence that high bmis require it. I have far too much time on my hands to read and research.
I have taken my first dose of ondansetron though. Fingers crossed. It's been a terrible day. When does everyone recommend I take my lactulose? I called the dr today and told him exactly what I needed. He was a bit surprised but then asked if I was telling him how to do his job. I said I was offering advice and guidance that will make him a better gp. Thankfully he has a sense of humour and it was all said in jest. He did finish by asking if my views on ginger have changed. I've assured him that I'm pretty consistent on that lol.

LucindaE · 16/10/2017 19:00

Just managed to lose a great long post. Tiresome pc!
Sally8655 Welcome. I remember a Sally from before. Sorry you are suffering and so sorry about your loss. You must have it badly to be admtted at six weeks. Have they given you a laxative to help with the unfortunately inevitable constipation that goes with Ondansetron? A lot of sufferers find an effective anti acid like Ranitidine or Omprazole makes a huge difference to the vomiting. Don't feel too awful about your LO, who will soon forget this period of comparative neglect. Not sure if you remember the infamous list of drinks and junk food. Flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, the juice of tinned fruit, Elderflower water, Lucozade, Dr Pepper, orange squash, fizzy orange, sips of chocolate milkshake - maybe soya, jelly, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps - people were talking of salt and vinegar crisps earlier - slices of melon - maybe pulverized into cubes and frozen and cheap ice cream. Someone was saying onion bharjis (sp?) earlier. I am sure you won't retain a BMI of 31 with this scourge; I wonder they hadn't thought of that!
Mustang and Oklahoma Poor toddlers: but they are so exhausting when unwell.
Watch me cross post...

seize morning and evening RELIGIOUSLY Grin

justtheonethen · 16/10/2017 20:52

Thanks sally, I think it's the iron in the pregnacare that make you feel sick so the high dose folic should be fine. Although what seize says is interesting.

seise I research EVERYTHING. Far too much time on my hands Grin

seizethecuttlefish · 16/10/2017 21:03

Thanks just. I'm holding out high hopes for ondansetron and if lactulose helps with it, I'm all for it. I just want to be able to function a bit. My poor 4 yr old has no idea what's going on.

justtheonethen · 16/10/2017 22:01

Poor little one seize, try not to worry though, you will be feeling worse about it than them. Ondansetron is a life saver for me, but only with metoclopromide so if it doesn't work alone then try mixing them. Fingers crossed it does the trick.

DeadDoorpost · 16/10/2017 22:32

I'm on 1x4mg ondansetron but sometimes need 2. I seem to have it lightly compared to a lot of women on here.
I never took the pregnancare stuff as I didn't realise I should have or needed to as I didn't expect to get pregnant and i wouldn't have been able to keep them down anyway in those first few months. I didn't get any help with meds until 8 or 9 weeks.

Just to show you all up though... I'm 2 presents away from being totally done with my Christmas shopping for this year that's not including DH's stocking fillers as we go shopping for those a few days before Christmas, if not the day before.

justtheonethen · 16/10/2017 22:35

door very impressive! I long to be that organised!

DeadDoorpost · 16/10/2017 22:59

Grin I'm rather excited for Christmas this year. And it's got nothing to do with the baby 😂😂 seriously. I think it's coz I've got no commitments of any kind like uni or work and i dont have to spend time with my mother for a loooong while yet. blissful sigh

Shehz21 · 17/10/2017 02:42

Hi Sally Sorry to hear you are struggling with the early days of HG rearing its ugly head.
I am currently 17 weeks and have been on Phenergan/Avomine 25mg x 2 and Metoclopromide x 2 a day since week 12.
From week 6 to week 12 I was on Metoclopromide and Prochlorperazine.
The phenergan is a blessing so far! Really helps control the vomiting and nausea to 75%.
As far as pregnacare is concerned it's an absolute no-no for me (a guaranteed ticket to a vom session infact) so I only take separate folic acid +vid D based on the advice I got from more experienced ladies here. I know this is not the most exciting group of women sufferers to be in but you will have massive support and invaluable advice always here.
Hope you able to find the right medecines cocktail which work for you soonFlowers
P.S -sorry about your previous loss.

Dead I am at my wits end trying to complete ATLEAST a quarter of my Christmas shopping and look at you girl almost done! Getting some serious envy energy hereWink

BlueButTrue · 17/10/2017 07:26

Sally i couldn't take pregnacare or any 'larger' tablets as they made my sickness worse. For some reason, swallowing a big tablet made me physically sick too.

Dead Oh me too! Baby's first Christmas and everyone clunking round us Grin

BlueButTrue · 17/10/2017 07:33

Has anyone here been screened for gestational diabetes this pregnancy?

I meet none of the criteria, but Baby Blue is unusually large on my growth scans and so they want to rule it out. They were previously happy that it was just my 6'3 husband causing the baby bulk on him, but he keeps going off the chart Blush

I can't really eat much at all and not everything stays down, goodness knows what I'll say if they say I have to watch my sugar and exercise levels more closely.

Anyway, the reason I ask is because my HG is x10 worse when I don't eat something small in the mornings Sad

And to my horror, it's in a place that I'll have to get a taxi to. Car journeys make me sick at the best of times, let alone on an empty stomach!

The hospital I work for no longer give Lucazade as the glucose drink because they've changed the ingredients. But my previous maternity hospital did before we moved and I think this one does?

What do they give you if not Lucozade?
