I would say that sometimes you go at six weeks and it's still too small to see a heartbeat, even if the baby is perfectly well. This can be especially worrying if dates are slightly off and you're on 4 weeks or so.

I'd go at the time you think you are about 8 weeks.

Is anyone suffering insomnia? I literally had no sleep last night and keep having weird dejavu all day 😩

Littlelouse · 01/09/2017 16:31

@Hopeful2102 I'd also suggest booking an early scan to put your mind at rest but please also remember that pregnancy is a continued test of your patience. I drove myself mad at the beginning looking up statistics: 1% of pregnancies end in missed miscarriages, 95% of pregnancies where there has been a heartbeat visualised before 8 weeks go full term etc etc etc

I had pretty much zero symptoms in my first trimester: no sickness, no nausea, no cramping. I also had a bleed at 7 weeks.

I'm now 30 weeks and guess what? Just found out that 1 in 200 births end in stillbirth. A third of these happen at delivery. My friend has lost her baby at 32 weeks and a student of mine recently lost hers at 20 weeks. If you allow yourself to be dragged into this way of thinking, you will hate the entire 9 months - you will literally torture yourself. Every time baby isn't as active as the day before, you will convince yourself something has gone wrong.

To a certain extent you're going to need to get a handle of yourself to enjoy an incredible experience.

Hopeful2102 · 01/09/2017 17:57

I've just found a place, gonna talk to my bf about it and probably get one at 8 weeks. I think I'm 6 now, my last period was 19th July & my cycle is 32 days. You're right @littlelouse I do need to be patient which is the complete opposite of me lol.

Littlelouse · 01/09/2017 20:58

Complete opposite of me too @Hopeful2102! Smile I don't want you to not enjoy the whole thing because you're worrying all the time. Unfortunately, we have very little control over what happens when we're pregnant. Your body knows what it's doing!

Bobbiepin · 01/09/2017 21:01

@hopeful if you can bear it I would push that back a week or two. My cycle was 35 days and the midwife's estimation of dates was off by 2 and a half weeks. You don't want to get yourself worked up thinking you're about 8 weeks and only be 6.

Hopeful2102 · 01/09/2017 21:16

If I go by the date I think I conceived 8/9th August how many weeks would I be? I feel like I can't trust the online calculators because of my cycle length

Bobbiepin · 01/09/2017 21:21

I thinl about 5 but I'm really not sure so please don't rely on that. Its natural to be worried, but you need to remember that stress isn't good for either of you.

I told a friend (with 2 kids) that I was worried before a scan. He told me 'get used to it, you're a parent. You'll never not be worried again'.

Hopeful2102 · 01/09/2017 21:30

@bobbiepin I think I'm gonna go with 5 too, you guys on here have been a massive help Thank you! I have no one to talk to about it except my bf as I haven't told anyone yet & even though he's excited I don't want to bore him with it already. Also haven't told him my worries as I am a general worrier anyway so thank you sonce much!

Missonhartbaby · 01/09/2017 21:37

Any body else got a belly shelf yet? I've discovered I can balance a full cup of tea on mine really easily now. Perfect for dunking biscuits!!! Until he kicks it that is! GrinGrin

ew1990 · 01/09/2017 22:37

@Missonhartbaby I can nearly balance a cup, but I'm carrying really low for some reason - here's this weeks bump shot (please ignore my knickers - they are meant to be white but they are so comfy 😂)

Missonhartbaby · 01/09/2017 23:46

I'm carrying quite high and Im 4 weeks ahead of you so I'm sure you'll get there! Haha there's no shame, we all have knickers like that!
He hasn't dropped low yet but he is always head down atm so that's good. Got a growth scan next week just to make sure he's not gonna be super big! Eeep! Haha Grin

Missonhartbaby · 01/09/2017 23:53

Excuse the fact I'm basically naked but this is my bump at 33+3... I'm actually loving it at the moment, feel quite womanly!

lydiangel83 · 02/09/2017 06:38

@Squigglefish my insomnia is terrible and it's making me miserable :-/ so tired all the time and wouldn't mind if I didn't have work still!

Loving the shelf bumps! I'm not there yet at 31 wks but I do love rubbing my belly and also do stick it out a bit now whilst having one hand on my back, classic pregnancy stance! I've been getting bad back ache but I guess the extra 15 kg I'm carrying don't help!!

mrsjkerry · 02/09/2017 13:42

Love those bumps. I still think I look fat rather than pregnant 😏

OP posts:
TheLionQueen1 · 02/09/2017 13:49

Definitely look pregnant MrsJ! I'm getting such bad stretch marks on my hips despite using cream daily Sad

ew1990 · 02/09/2017 14:56

@mrsjkerry @TheLionQueen1 such lovely bumps! How far gone are you ladies? I know I ask all the time I just can't keep up lol xx

TheLionQueen1 · 02/09/2017 15:10

I'm 34+4, getting fed up now!!

Missonhartbaby · 02/09/2017 15:18

I've got stretch marks on my hips and thighs aswell but none on my belly which is a good thing I think! Sometimes i think there's nothing we can do about it though sadly :(

TheLionQueen1 · 02/09/2017 16:23

Misson you're right Sad the MW said to me that some people just get them regardless to what they use or try!

lydiangel83 · 02/09/2017 17:24

Lovely bumps ladies :) what cream is everyone using? I'm using bio oil. I do think it's partly genetic though whether you get stretch marks or not. I don't have any yet (31+3) but I have horrible broken veins on my legs instead which is what my mum has too.

ew1990 · 02/09/2017 17:32

I've not got any yet but still 10 weeks left, my mum has them so who knows? Some people get them when they lose their bump after birth

Littlelouse · 02/09/2017 19:49

Went to my first hypnobirthing class today ladies. Was mega sceptical and would have walked out the moment I was asked to hum in a big circle, or anything vaguely uncomfortable. It was amazing! Can't recommend it enough!

Bobbiepin · 02/09/2017 20:22

@Littlelouse what did you do? I'm quite sceptical about it but people seem to rave about it.

I started using Palmers cocoa butter but for the last few months I've been using this really basic boots essentials moisturiser, its in a blue and white tub and its great! Absorbs quickly and so far only a couple of stretch marks on my upper thighs/hips. Totally agree that its just one of those things but it makes me feel better about it!
