I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome back Lucinda! weasle I hope the appointment is helpful and gives some information.

user, that sounds worrying, I've vomited blood, but in my case knew it was from my throat (bright red streaks, very painful throat....granola was the culprit, not good to vomit and have never eaten it again!). What you describe sounds quite different and more worrisome so it does sound like a call to 111 would be a good idea.

Haich hope baby moves for you today, being overdue is awful. If not though, I hope everything goes well with induction tomorrow!

DeadDoorpost · 12/08/2017 14:24

user Yeah, I had blood in my vomit. Also had what looked like mince or gravy granules so I knew instantly I needed to phone 111. Not that it was smooth sailing coz I had to get the DH to phone them while I threw up again while on the phone. They were very patient bless them.

Natsku I had a surge around week 21 for a few days then week 23 really tipped me over the edge. I'm still recovering. I've also had to cut down on the amount of milk I eat/drink as I'm certain that's what's not helping it. Didn't have any today and feeling really good, so I'd also suggest keeping an eye on what you're eating as that can affect the sickness too. Oh, and soy sauce seems to affect me as well. As i found out last night

user1471462428 · 12/08/2017 15:35

Found the culprit back of my throats bleeding!! I don't remember that happening though starting to get hazy and confused again. BF is horrified as he worked away when I had my daughter and I never told him how bad it was. He even went to a wedding instead of our 20 week scan. Think he can't believe how I just got on with it..

Crownandheelshigh · 12/08/2017 16:25

@lucinda

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow.

I'm constantly throwing up about I'd guess 30/40 times a day.

Sometimes first thing in the morning I'll through up bike. Xx

Mustang27 · 12/08/2017 18:01

Erm user so am I!?! A wedding instead of your scan??? Wow you are a saint. Blood is always a bit frightening does often turn out to be throat due to muscle tearing or vomiting a rough good back up. Hope you feel better.

Did the not try steroids Crown that's really horrific!!!

LucindaE · 12/08/2017 19:42

user1471 Oh dear, I don't like the sound of that 'hazy and confused' feeling. It's so often a sign of bad dehydration. How are the ketones? Have you got dry inelestic skin, headache, blurry vision, dark very scanty urine etc? Blood is always worth reporting to medics, though usually, as others say, it is just from the throat. My OH was away too, for the worst of it, and never realised how bad it had been either, though I was lucky and didn't suffer long.
DeadDoorPost That sounds like the sinister 'coffee grounds'. Glad you got it checked.
Crown Thirty-one weeks and thirty or forty times a day- goodness. I am afraid you are one of the unlucky minority who suffer badly throghout. I hope that is heaves, not separate heaving sessions? I wonder, to be honest, that your doctor didn't suggest sterioids. Can she anyway add another medication? Has she tried anti acid meds?
pippasnippa Thank you! Smile
Waves to all. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Natsku I believe there is often a hormonal surge around 20 weeks - not sure of the others. I'm glad Gaviscon helps you. I didn't find it that helpful, but the doctor insisted it was the only safe anti acid, which just isn't true. They didn't suggest Ranitidine/Zantac, then? Lol about brandy buying Grin.

Had to go to a kids party and discovered I can keep some pub food down I was only sick twice...... strange craving for blue wkd. I didn't try though, had a blue ice pop. The blood is still but in smaller amounts. Ketones are at 2 so wouldn't be admitted thank god.

Natsku · 12/08/2017 20:29

No they just suggested the Gaviscon.

I made a pear tarte tatin today and it was so good I ate three helpings and now I am regretting it - pretty sure I'll be seeing it again before I get to bed. Ice water is helping a bit though.

Mustang27 · 12/08/2017 20:39

Mmmmm Pear tarte tatin very jealous I suck at caramel. Hope it stays down.

Natsku · 12/08/2017 21:00

The caramel turned out really good. The pastry on the other hand... well lets just say it didn't look too pretty Grin

Crownandheelshigh · 13/08/2017 05:28

@lucinda

Yep heaves.
I've had a constant battle with my doctor over him prescribing anything as he likes to try "alternative ways" however I am seeing a new doctor on Wednesday (if I can move to get there) so hopefully I'll get some more help.
Steroids haven't been suggested yet but I need something and no anti acid tablets have been tried yet.

Still feeling so down and weak that I'm really struggling to see a way out at the moment.

Sat up at 5:30am crying my eyes out cause all I want is sleep and I can't cause I'm throwing up. X

Mustang27 · 13/08/2017 09:43

Crown where in the world are you? You need a wing man to make sure these idiots are making you suffer for no bloody good reason. At 30 weeks you should have had a reprieve by now!! If I'm near you I'm happy to help in any way at all.

Natsku so I'm pretty good at pastry so we could combine our efforts lol then eat all our creation!! Before swiftly vomiting it back up Hmm

LucindaE · 13/08/2017 09:55

Crownandhighheels My goodness, even heaves is bad enough. So sorry for your despair. I believe that you can get ranatidine over the counter in the UK as Zantac, and it is considered safe for pregnant woman. Might that help? Thank goodness you are changing your doctor.
Do you find that full sugar flat coke or the juice of tinned fruit or ice lollies are any good for liquids?
User1471 You were 'only' sick twice on the pub outing? That sounds miserable.
Natsku Sorry to hear of distasteful re-appearing pastry.
Mustang How are you doing? You are great at support for others, and havent' said much about how things are with you. The same is true of Lemondrop (who thank goodness has finished work) and Melleebacca and HaichM. My goodness, I hope baby HaichM isn't still delaying!

Hi guys, been reading this a bit but back at work and it's draining me so not posted much. I really feel for all you poor ladies who are lumbered with gaviscon. It was definitely making my sickness worse. I just had acid running up and out of my mouth and was vomiting the gaviscon anyway. Omeprazole has been an absolute saviour! My GP looked in the BNF and it's fine for pregnant women. I would highly recommend it. It not only reduced the heart burn but significantly reduced the vomiting. 10 days vomit free now 🙌🏼

Sorry to hear there have been some pregnancy losses 💐
It's an awful time, but having been there myself I can say that I think time (and wine) is a great healer.
I found it useful to open up to people about it.

I am 18 weeks now. Left work abruptly on Thursday as experienced severe "fanny daggers" with watery discharge. They thought might be dilating. All fine, but got the beginnings of SPD...which is what the pains were.

My manager was furious as she had to cover my teaching. She was so angry the next day. I said "sorry about yesterday (then I was going to say what happened)"and she aggressively said "I don't want to talk about it", so I haven't even told her that it's SPD. Luckily she's not my direct line manager. She's the manager of the department. I feel really upset about her reaction.

BlueIsYou · 13/08/2017 10:25

Sickness well and truly back with a vengeance Sad 27 weeks almost and this morning I got up early to literally puke my entire stomach content out.

I have given myself a lovely, torn throat again. Bleeding has slowed down thankfully

Natsku · 13/08/2017 11:42

Grin Mustang

Crownandheelshigh · 13/08/2017 12:02

@Mustang - I'm in the uk. In The West Midlands!

@lucinda - flat coke and vimto ice lollies are my go to. Haven't tried the juice from tinned fruits yet

user1471462428 · 13/08/2017 13:34

Crown if anyone suggests alternatives ginger or acupressure I genuinely just shout at them. Tell your GP to educate himself. I hate ginger and it turns out my unborn child hates it even more.

justtheonethen · 13/08/2017 14:12

Ginger also vile to throw up!

I'm not doing too badly in terms of sick now, just feeling shit still. Can't stand up too long without getting dizzy and feel totally wiped out. The tablets are a miracle though, have taken the vomiting/heaving away and taken the nausea to a background hum which is manageable most of the time.

user hurrah for due date twins!

Crownandheelshigh · 13/08/2017 15:35

user1471462428

I'm due to see a new one as it's been a long battle with him.... how am I supposed to keep weight on and improve my bmi when I can't keep anything down yet refuses to prescribe me anti emetics, so last week I'd had enough and asked to be seen by someone different this week when I go in.

I seem to be having a better morning this morning luckily and I've been invited out for dinner so hopefully I can keep it down!

The support on here is keeping me going aswell xx

thingymaboob · 13/08/2017 16:15

People are still suggesting ginger to me, even at 18 weeks!

BlueIsYou · 13/08/2017 16:24

thingy I'm in my 3rd trimester and get ginger/mint suggestions at least weekly Grin

HaichM · 13/08/2017 19:28

Yeah the ginger etc suggestions don't stop unfortunately and as soon as you look a bit better or stop feeling sick as much, people seem to assume all is well, which is really frustrating.

I am part way through the induction process. Had a 24hr pessary put in this morning which set baby off on a 2 hr non stop wiggle so had to stay in for lunch and extra monitoring so they could get a clear reading. Was allowed to come home this afternoon though - had a nap and finished reading my book - and go back in to be checked and monitoring at 11pm if nothing major happens. Been having back pain and cramps for the last hr or so but not getting hopes up because at this point it just seems to be part of my evening routine. Hopefully things will get going soon and I will be posting a photo of baby Haich before too long.

Don't forget, those of you on Facebook in the 3rd trimester, there is a Facebook group called the HG Graduation Group that you can request to join. There's only 4 of us there at the mo but it's a place to discuss babies and labour etc with women you know are supportive and who you've got to know through this thread.

Melleebacca · 13/08/2017 19:40

Good luck Haich! I totally know how you feel with the evening cramps. I keep thinking something might be happening, but then I go to sleep and wake up fine.

Getting an iron infusion today, as iron levels are borderline. Midwife at the hospital who does it was very grumpy when I made my appt.

Crown - I have a low bmi and so far (39w tomorrow) I'm only 3.5kg over my pre pregnancy weight. I'm not sure why your GP is making such a big deal about bmi.

Waves to everyone.
