I thought I would start a new thread because we finally passed the 500 post mark.

This is a pretty quiet thread - I think too many of us have been moving house. Our move is well and truly over (thank heavens) - well at least for the short term, we still have the small matter of emigrating in November with an 8 week old and a 3 year old which should be a barrel of laughs...

Otherwise I am bumbling on nearly 31 weeks and actually feeling ok despite no sleep, spd type pain at night and lots of time at the hospital because DS2 is so big and needs constant monitoring.

How are you all doing - time is flying we'll be doing birth announcements soon...

I'm in Yate. It was my midwife who told me that the costs of the amenity rooms, but when my friend had her first 2 1/2 years ago, she had to pay £80 a night....

Dejags - let us know what happens.... I hope it's not a tummy bug - the last thing you want at the moment....

cazzybabs · 30/08/2004 14:04

OMG - the private rooms of the hosiptial in Cambridge are £190 and they are not en-suite.

My (d)d has decided she is bored of mummy and just wants daddy all the time - why am I having another one??? She had a paddy in a bookshop yesterday because daddy went off and left her with me and now she keeps looking at the window and asking when daddy will be back from work. I feel very inadequate. And how do SAHM cope with children and being pregnant?

I am nesting at the mo - have cleaned the bathroom, drainning board and fridge - I never do all of this at the same time apart from a few weeks before dd was born.

jacksmumto1 · 30/08/2004 14:25

Cazzybabs - how old is your dd? My ds is 2 1/2 and is having paddy after paddy this week... I'm dreading coping with a baby and a tantruming toddler..... Also ds only wants me if Daddy/Granny/Gran/Gramps are round but if Grandad is there then only Grandad will do and woe betide anyone else trying to do anything for/with him....

I'm sort of nesting... doing what I can - cleaning banisters and bits and pieces and then getting dh to do the rest....!! Must go and make up the spare bed for dm - she's coming tomorrow to look after ds for the rest of the week....

cazzybabs · 30/08/2004 15:19

She is 2 and 3 months. She is really tired - and I have put her in the cot where is she is screaming and screaming. Hope the neighbours don't call social services. And she hasn't got a nappy on - as fast I was putting it on she was taking it off and I am teriffied of hurting her. I shall wait until she was cried herself to sleep and then try and put it on. I feel like crying now too!!! Where did my angelic 2 year old go?

dinny · 30/08/2004 15:20

At St George's (where I had dd and am having this one) the private rooms are about £40. They didn't bother charging me last time (for five nights). None ensuite though - as far as I know.
Podmog, do you have to stay in 5 days with the baby if you don't get IV antibiotics? I thought it was 24-48 hours (until they can culture swab taken from baby for GBS - if it's neg, that is). And they start the baby on IV antibiotics in the meantime.... I've got 48 hours in my head - five days is a horrendous thought.
DD is SOOOOO tantrummy too - why did I ever think it would be a good idea to have a 2.25 year old and newborn?!
Getting so uncomfy with all the stretching movements by baby - head firmly on cervix, pushing down and it hurts.

cazzybabs · 30/08/2004 15:23

Why are the rooms in Cambridge so expensive? Not that I want on - well at that price its tough if I do!

Oh no, Podmog. Was your last labour fast? Can't remember if you've said. So you need to be in labour for at least 8 hours to get the two doses? So you'll go in at the very first twinge? Oh, I really hope you get the antibiotics in labour. Really hope I do too. x

Lolabelle · 30/08/2004 22:11

Can i be really naive and ask what GBS is and what antibiotics these are?? I just wondered if it affected all of us or was specific to you Podmog?? My hospital (East Surrey) doesn't seem the type to forget about charging but that would be a serious touch if they did!!

£120 for theensuite seems v.wrong bit the Cambridge one has totally shocked me! I think DH would struggle to agree to that one!! Its hardly plush either, just four walls and a bog standard bed - i think DH was expecting a plasma screen and a mini bar for that!!

Reading this - I am so glad that our hospital is new (Princess Royal in Farnborough Kent). It hasn't got a great reputation for post-natal care but I don't plan on sticking around too long to find out. The biggest ward has four beds, single en-suite rooms (available on a first come first serve) cost £95 per night. Seems a bit excessive to me considering you can still hear everything that goes on around you.

I hope to have a 24 hour discharge with this baby - I had a 6 hour discharge with DS but in hindsight I should have stayed a bit longer to get feeding established etc.

Hope you all have a good day

Morning. I'm still here I have period type pains this morning, and was woken by sharp pains in the night (the only way to describle them is having a really rough smear where the dr is trying to remove cervix) Want to go to ASDA (25 miles down A3) worried this may be the start of things to come though.

Know the wet myself feeling. Had it in the night last few nights. Just heavy v.discharge I think. No show though.

Me too worried about lack of baby movement, though every night moves for 2 hours between 8-10pm and gives me cronic acid reflux - but hardly moves inthe day until I get in a warm bath.

3 days to being induced if Mother Nature doesn't act sooner. Can't be bothered with private room. As I have no local family etc, I think I may feel better with some company around me. Also last time I took a private room I felt a bit ignored!

Period pains are bugging me. Making me grumpy.

Thinking of you all.

Distracted · 31/08/2004 13:59

Saddy - feeling for you, hope you either go into full term labour or the period type pains stop, it's not nice being somewhere in between and not sure if anything's going to happen.

I've actually been getting quite a few really sharp pains v. low down too, presumably against my cervix - sounds similar to what you are describing. Not too sure what they are - just assume baby is doing something, but don't remember getting these last time. Haven't got any other symptoms though, so for me I don't think it's anything to do with labour (I'm only 36 weeks). Although do wonder if it's anything to do with cervix 'ripening' or whatever it's supposed to do before it dilates?

Good luck anyway, Saddy, hope all goes smoothly.

Lolabelle - GBS is Group B Strep. - it's an infection that some people carry and it gets passed on to the baby during labour, hence the need for antibiotics. Not sure what percentage of people this affects and I'm sure others can tell you much more.

Saddy · 31/08/2004 14:04

Thanks distracted. I'm going to see my midwife this afternoon anyway - just for a liston in to babys heartbeat. Am i the only one who is just constantly worried about baby right now. I am sure I am not going to rest ntil I am holding little one in my arms. 2 1/2 days and counting :o)

Pains have eased. I think maybe its the cervix starting to open. I sort of recall in the ante natal class that the pelvis has to part, so I guess there has to be a few cramps, but the stabbing sensations make me feel uneasy.

I have just taken my first ever tea spoon of caster oil. Just one - way below the dose that is suggested, but its worth a try. All the stories I read that were negative seemed to be by people who had taken too much - one girl had taken 2 spoons every 4 hours! I figure one teaspoon may loosen me up anyway and help clear me out (sorry to be gross) I have a massive fear of pooing in labour!

Sx

jacksmumto1 · 31/08/2004 16:50

Saddy - - You are not the only one to be concerned about baby and movements... I've been worried all weekend but today baby seems to be more active.

Have had my booking-in appt now and feeling very nervous about tomorrow but excited at the same time.

One thing that bothers me is the visiting hours.... dh has to work nights on thursday and then do normal evening shift on friday (he is taking pat' leave from sat) so I won't see him at all on Friday... I asked if my parents could bring ds in to see me during "spouse and children" visiting hours instead of him (as the 'new' visiting hours are very short and at a silly time for a 2 year old) and got told NO. So if I am still in hospital on Friday... I will not really see anyone and I feel it is important that ds comes as much as possible... However, I have been told if all is well.. I can come home after a day (compared to 72 hours after last time) so may have to do that..

Well this might be my last post before baby so good luck everyone! I'll be online to tell you my news as soon as I can!!!

dejags · 31/08/2004 18:15
