I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Holly: no still no exact date other than the rough 8-10 weeks we were given, which puts completion around 39-41 weeks. We're obviously hoping to move earlier than that but we'll have to see. I have regular visions of me going into labour while packing or moving... woo for 2.5 days. I hope they pass quickly.

Great news about baby's heart!

Dead: I've had lots of headaches this pregnancy - been told it's just hormones or the ondansetron. I started worrying about pre-eclampsia but my midwife seemed only concerned if I was having headaches and vision problems.

As for pains in side of bump - are they a bit like a stitch? I started having stitch like pains in my bump at the sides around 17 weeks and some pelvic pain while walking or moving mainly and it turned out to be diastasis recti. But if it's more like actual cramp I would go with Mellee's stretching pains. Keep an eye on how often they occur and whether it's after or during physical activity and if needs be, mention them to your midwife.

Hope everyone has had a good day and has a good night.

Lemondrop99 · 12/06/2017 22:45

Flap, I'm so so very pleased for you! What a relief

I was on 3-4 x 4mg ondansetron a day at my worst. I cut down to 2, and am now on 1 (not every day).

Anyone else's phone autopredict all the names of HG medication now 🙄

Holly I've been having exactly the same problems with losing long posts. Really frustrating and I couldn't face typing them out again. I have the app which works when my browser is having a blip, but I don't really like using it.

Can't remember who said they threw up in a bin and it was the first time they didn't get to the loo (Door?). I can never get to the toilet! I walked around my house carrying a bowl as I'd get about 5 seconds notice, just long enough to say "I feel sick......" then bleugh!

DeadDoorpost · 12/06/2017 23:26

lemon Yeah, I've never had a sick bowl and I refuse to use one now. It's the stubbornness in me. I usually can tell when I'm going to be sick but this just hit me within 2 seconds of sitting up straight and I just had time to lean over.
Also been sick since. Threw up dinner. Am not impressed at all. Still feeling incredibly ill now as I type.

Thingymaboob · 12/06/2017 23:42

I psychologically cannot throw up properly in a bucket. I need to be on my knees. Feel horrible now. Might have to phone in sick in work tomorrow. I really hope week 9/10 is my peak!

NonStopDisco · 13/06/2017 01:48

Lemon I have a tub that goes round with me- its position in the house tells me how much better I am as well! Right now, I'm not sure where it is, because I haven't had nausea or stealth vom, other time its surgically attached! At first it was just precaution, but eventually became a necessity.

I'm 16+3 now, less nausea but more vomiting- I think this is because I keep making the mistake of eating meals now! When did everyone start eating meals without throwing up? Even the smallest portion of dinner sends me off.

flossyfloss · 13/06/2017 08:35

I'm 10 weeks on Saturday and last week and last weekend were pretty bad (wonder if my hormones surged last week?? Yesterday and today have been a little better and I managed to get dressed and leave the house yesterday Shock only to the gp to renew my prescription but better than most days!

I am crossing my fingers that the 8-10 week surge happened to me last week and this week is going to be easier so that the flight and holiday goes as best it can! I was terrified of getting the 10 week sure right in the middle of the trip!

Lemondrop99 · 13/06/2017 09:06

Ha ha Disco, I can 100% relate to that! For months I wouldn't walk anywhere in the house without clutching my bowl. Last night I looked next to my bed, realised I wasn't sure where I left and just went to sleep! If I go downhill again, I'll be back to hugging it lol

Hope everyone feels a bit better today. I've made it as far as the office. Air con train, got a seat, not crowded. So far so good. Now just to find out if I have a job or not!

Oklahoma · 13/06/2017 09:37

I can't keep up with the thread anymore!
Plodding on here. 17 weeks today and no sign of the fabled improvement yet.
Waves to all

pippanippa · 13/06/2017 10:46

Flap that's brilliant news, so glad for you.

Am much the same as Oklahoma, plodding along, good days and bad days. Had a bad morning, followed by a checkup, baby all fine which is great! Me less so, lost weight again, low blood pressure which explains me feeling like I'm constantly about to keel over and leukocytes so have some antibiotics. Dr advised to start taking medication again for a week just to see if any improvement. Seems a bit pointless but will give it a go. Hoping for some good days for other people!

LucindaE · 13/06/2017 13:00

Thank you for the kind words, everyone, when you are suffering yourselves. Mother Hen is back flapping and clucking.
I am still so happy about FlapAttack's news.
Meleebacca Thanks for the tip. I do take bicarb of soda in water - sadly it doesn't work for me as a pre-emptive measure but I know some swear by it. Sorry that Haichm is suffering from headaches too.
Oklahoma I hope that improvement is just round the corner.
can't I couldn't magnify that attachment enough to read it, but I'm really glad that it provided reassurance!
Sorry that DeadDoorPost and others were feeling generally foul when last heard from.
Lemondrop It is grotesque that one has to go round with a bowl - some give it a name. I remember one sufferer called her lavatory 'Tilly the Toilet' and her bowl 'Bob the Bucket'. Well, one has to have a laugh to survive.
flossyfloss Fingers crossed for your holiday. While travelling may be awful, a lot of people feel so much better on holiday.
millsbynight I think that sleeping and exhaustion is typical when at your worst. It does feel awful - like being under a bad spell - but is obviously what you need.
Hollyop Glad OH will be pleased at the compliments on his handiwork.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
Watch me cross post as ever.

pippasnippa Sorry about bad morning, but that's happy news about baby anyway. Glad they are keeping an eye on you. Did they just recommend the same meds as before?

OP posts:
pippanippa · 13/06/2017 15:12

Thanks Lucinda, sorry to hear you've been unwell - apologies I missed that bit of the thread, it's moved so quick!

Yes, it's just the same meds as before unfortunately. They don't go to anything stronger really except in case of admission. It feels a bit pointless taking them again though to be honest but equally the sickness doesn't seem worth pushing for anything stronger at this stage . Still being sick, but manageable for the most part if you see what I mean. Will try the meds again to appease them and have decided I will present to hospital the next time I have a really bad day and see what they say at that point.

cantdothisagain2017 · 13/06/2017 16:10

It's m going to have to have a day or too off ondansetron and I'm dreading it but I can't go to the toilet it's caused horrendous constipation. It's worked so well for the nausea and vomiting but I haven't been in days and no amount of movicol and lactulose is helping so I feel I have no option

flossyfloss · 13/06/2017 17:05

Can't I've found orange juice has saved me from the constipation, I was suffering with it so started to drink fresh orange juice - about 4 glasses a day and it's massively helped and no more constipation - could be worth a go? There's no way I could go without ondansetron I just get too nauseous Sad

OnNaturesCourse · 13/06/2017 17:07

Just popping by to check in and say Hello waves while holding my arm and feeling sorry for myself outside the doctors. Silly vaccinations. 😭 As if pregnancy wasn't unpleasant enough! Hugs to all. Glad to see some vom buckets are slowly being removed from peoples sides! Xxx

Lemondrop99 · 13/06/2017 17:24

Ha ha, I haven't named my sick bowl yet! I might need to do that.

Can't, maybe talk to your GP about trying bisacodyl (Dulcolax)

How your poorly arm is feeling better Nature. I had my vaccination yesterday and a sore arm to match!

Phew what a stinking hot day. I got into the office fine but started feeling nauseous around 3pm and the commute home has been fairly hellish. I still have no idea where I have a job or not. Redundancy still looking highly likely but until we have numbers of people going voluntarily, I don't know if I'll get job matched. My secondment and maternity makes things doubly complicated. It's my dog's birthday today so I'm making a cake when I get home Grin

OnNaturesCourse · 13/06/2017 17:32

Lemon..
Similar here. Facing redundancy if I refuse to take their "suitable alternative" role which has different hours, shift rotas, actual shift work, and no prospect of part time after baby... If I don't accept this I'll need to take voluntary redundancy. Really picks it's moments to happen!

Hope your doggy has a wonderful birthday, and your arm feels better soonxx

NonStopDisco · 13/06/2017 17:35

flap I can't believe I missed your good news! You must feel so relieved, it sounds like it's been a hellish time!

Hang on OnNatures and Lemon- when are the vaccinations? I feel I should know this already!

LucindaE · 13/06/2017 17:48

flossyfloss That orange juice tip for can't sounds interesting. It doesn't give you acidity, then, or if it does, mild enough to be combated?
pippasnippa I am glad things feel managable, at least.
Oh dear about redundancies; that is stressful at the best of times, and if there are redundancies in workplaces, it can bring out the worst in people. So that's Lemondrop and OnNature'sCourse under threat of redundancy, and I think Hollyhop expects to be made redundant as well.

Lemondrop99 · 13/06/2017 18:40

Here you go Disco. Whooping cough vaccination between 20-32 weeks

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/whooping-cough-vaccination-pregnant.aspx

Lemondrop99 · 13/06/2017 18:41

Sorry you're going through the same Nature Sad Sounds rubbish. Do you know if you maternity pay will be impacted? I hoping I'll still get my full maternity pay and then a redundancy payment if it comes to that.

cantdothisagain2017 · 13/06/2017 18:49

I've tried movicol (6 sachets a day)
Lactulose
Dates
Prunes
Lots of water
Had some juice but will try more !
Really don't want to stop the ondansetron the thought of it makes me want to cry

pippanippa · 13/06/2017 19:52

Cant sounds like you've tried pretty much everything, it really sounds horrible. Last pregnancy I was told to try magnesium tablets to help (or drink mineral water with added magnesium), but that was just to help with regular constipation which seems in a different league to this side effect! Still, maybe worth a try, not sure how much your supposed to take when pregnant, but pharmacist should be able to help? Mangos are also supposed to be high in sorbitol if you can stomach that, I think raisins, pears and peaches are also supposed to be helpful. Sorry, I feel like I'm gingering you right now, tell me to get lost if I am!

pippanippa · 13/06/2017 19:56

Oh and I forgot, the most embarrassing tip of all - the one they tell you after giving birth. Get a little footrest to raise your feet a little (so your knees are a tiny bit raised when you're sat down) - ahem, apparently toilets are designed for men and are too high for women and this makes for a more ergonomic position...
