Does anyone want to come and play here? There's loads of space!

My least favorite comment is 'are you mad' closely followed by 'was it a mistake?' generally bought on by my being accompanied by DD who can't walk yet. Why do people say these things?

miffy2 · 11/08/2004 09:16

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, if you think the comments stop once babs is out, forget it! People cannot pass by a mum with a baby without commenting! If you meet someone you know you can almost see them thinking 'Oh God, must say something about the baby, what can I say???' and what comes out is usually 'My, what a big baby, however did you push him out?' and 'Wow, you look knackered, must be awake all night feeding him are you?' When all you REALLY want to hear is 'You look great and your baby is beautiful'.

When my first was a wee one, I used to walk around the supermarket with three stock answers for the old grannies 'It's a girl, she's X months old, and yes she is a good baby!'

Still, I am sure I would feel insulted if I met someone I knew who steadfastly ignored my bundle of joy, and my ever-slimming (not) hips.

Toots · 11/08/2004 10:05

Am supposed to be working, but have just 'turned out a cupboard' in the kitchen. Surely this is nesting behaviour? Believe me when I say I would not normally do such a thing. I am in shock now. Will have to go and lie down.

florenceuk · 11/08/2004 11:03

I am back at work, sitting in air-con comfort and catching up on Mumsnet! There are advantages of part-time working....

Toots, you are welcome to clean out my cupboards, they are a tip, and probably magnet for all kinds of undesirable things. My nesting instinct has not stretched that far yet. However, I did force DH to sort through papers in the study (DD's room to be) last night, and we ended up dumping about half of them in a filing cabinet with promises of doing it "properly" very very soon! Also I am determined that DH will do his tax return before end of the month and NOT in the last week of January. In fact, if I were really organised I would start my Xmas shopping now because the chances of doing anything on that post October are slim...

Bibiboo · 11/08/2004 11:15

Toots,
I think you are nesting - I spent several hours over the weekend making DH do his 'filing' and shredding any paperwork over a year old - filled 2 black bags with shredded till receipts and bank statements. I've also spent an hour this morning on the dulux website using their mouspainter to try out different colours in my living room - we only decorated it 18 months ago, but somehow I truly believe that if it's not done again before October Iw ill go insane! Made DH paint landing last month because (and this is the explanation he accepted) "magnolia is making me miserable"

beansprout · 11/08/2004 11:19

Toots - I am the same. Suddenly I think our flat is filthy and yes we clean it every week, but we don't clean ALL of it, not EVERY surface, just selected highlights, which really won't do....

Flo - this may be my earliest ever panic over Christmas shopping!! Part of me has
a cosy image of wheeling Bean around shopping malls... you can tell it's my first!!

OP posts:
miffy2 · 11/08/2004 11:46

I have told family members that I need their Christmas wish-lists by early November or I will resort to books from Amazon, as I am loath to trudge around town shopping for them post-birth!

Nesting is really kicking in now, I went through the kids' toy boxes and wardrobes the other evening - mad! I can't wait to get the baby clothes down from the attic and go through them. No painting walls though, too much effort (in choosing colours I mean, not that I would do the actual painting)

cerys · 11/08/2004 13:00

hello, all you nesting meece!
The day before DD2 was born, I got up and cleaned all the windows in the house and washed the curtains. Then I never did them again and we've moved now!

Interesting to hear you others have been getting DHs to paint. Mine has just got the top coat of the living room to do, then he's got the lovely task of landing and stairs to tackle. I let him off last night as he wanted to watch the football - oh yes, and he looked exhausted

Feel the same about the size comments - yesterday I had "you look large" and " are you nearly full term" (the latter from a nurse!).Today it was "you look fed up" (yes, I wonder why?)and "you are a BIG girl".

I had an upset tummy over the weekend and was off work Monday. Slept all morning and felt so much better, but am back to black circles under the eyes etc now. It is so hard to find a comfy position to sleep in.

I have been thinking vaguely about Christmas but got no further than that. I definitely want to do as much as possible online - the thought of braving the crowds with baby and possibly toddler in tow is too scary.

Time for lunch now - and maybe a little chocolate something?

cerys · 11/08/2004 14:44

BTW, I was interested to read about the spatone iron, Toots, and have just ordered some, as my iron is always borderline, even when I'm not pregnant.
I've still got my fat fingers and am still wearing Great Gran's ring (she of the hands like shovels )

Toots · 11/08/2004 15:41

Cerys, hope I haven't wasted your time with the spatone - feeling cream crackerooed today. People on here seem to reccommend it generally, though, and it's good to take something.

Shocked myself by bursting into tears on entry to GP's room for routine antenatal . Previously on Tootsoap you may remember a large baby (spine to my spine, stuck, ceasarean) was the order of things. Blubbed like a fool about potential 10 pounder plus delivery failure. She asked me if I'd like another section. That didn't feel right either. Then found out baby is currently breech, so that might be the case. Or not, could turn again like Dick Whittington (oh no it couldn't). Sorry, am raving. Really tired today after two meetings yesterday. Have four of my girl gang round for dinner tonight, and more friends tomorrow (I know, nuts) and nesting indeed catering or general cleaning and tidying bug has departed as suddenly as it arrived. Want to lie down and groan for a couple of days.

beansprout · 11/08/2004 15:51

Rave away Toots, that's why we are here. You poor thing though, I do sympathise. We have people over tonight and all I want to do is lie in a cool bath, eat and then be cuddled by dp for about 4 hours. I do NOT want to go home, after a days work and entertain. Grouch, grouch!

When would you need to decide about the c-section?

Does anyone know how allyco is?

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 12/08/2004 10:46

Moan alert

Why do I feel so sorry for myself all the time? Why am I wanting to nest but have no energy to do anything? If I wasn't so tired I'd be angry with myself for being so pathetic.

Toots and Bean - how did the entertaining go?

beansprout · 12/08/2004 10:53

Moan away Bibi but please don't refer to your lovely self as "pathetic" - we will not tolerate moose abuse here, even it comes from ourselves!!

We are getting into the bloody-hard-work stage, it's hot, we are contending with hormones, impending birth, all the preparation (emotionally, house wise etc etc), you are still working..... which bit of you is supposed to leap out of bed and nest like a crazed thing?!!

Please, please be kind to yourself and do what you need to do. If that's rest, then rest. We will all have our hands full soon enough. As my midwife said "now is the time to be a goddess, not a heroine".

Entertaining was ok, but then again, dp did all the work (bless). I just had to sit and look regal (ha ha). My lovely friends even washed up for me.

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 12/08/2004 13:46

Where can I get friends who wash up for me? Or does that only happen if you've actually provided them with a meal first?

sooz31 · 12/08/2004 13:52

Toots, you and I are in the same boat so far as c-section avoidance goes and I feel just the same way as you - and clearly our babies are of the same mind as mine is wriggling merrily about doing all sorts of acrobatics, bar the head-stand. We can console ourselves with the fact that we've at least 7-8 weeks to go for things to change.

I'm in a really lethargic mood too today. Want to have heaps of energy for DS this afternoon, but all I want to do is put my feet up... which is fine with him so long as cbeebies is on the telly - which then makes me feel wracked with guilt about not stimulating him in more fruitful ways...

Plus I went to mothercare today to buy stuff and failed. Just too daunted by it all.

motherinferior · 12/08/2004 14:12

Sympathy lurk here, my lovely friends. Can I say how refreshing it is to see a bunch of pregladies who are NOT enjoying themselves - I loathed every bloody moment of both my pregnancies. You are all doing utterly marvellously, and I can confidently say that the October mooselets are going to be the highlight of the Birth Announcements for 2004.

beansprout · 12/08/2004 14:18

Thanks MI - we think so too!!! Mosselets ahoy!

Sooz - am with you on this one. After being really bloody orgnised for most of the 2nd trimester, I can't even log on to the M/care website at the mo to buy things I have already chosen!! Same with the TS - royally unordered too, and so it goes on!! I keep telling myself that I am really tired and will do it when I feel better... er, when is that going to be then?!! Doh!

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 12/08/2004 15:32

We are a bunch of miserable Meece this month aren't we? If it's not the heat, it's the swellings, or the moods. Never mind, a mximum of 11 weeks for some of us, as little as 6 for others - can't be all bad, right?

Have some good news to cheer my fellow meeces up - well, maybe not, but I'm happy about it. I'm finishing work a week earlier than planned - 37 weeks here I come!!! And I'm on 4 day weeks, taking every Friday off until then. After the tiredness of the weekend and Monday, I realised that working until 38 weeks was a bit ambitious.

Sooz, can't you buy at Mothercare online? That way you get to shop, but from a chair with cups of tea and it all gets brought to your house - the best kind of shopping if you ask me! I found Mothercare to be more of a sanctuary than a burden on Monday when I went - I felt normal, accepted and no-one commented on my size at all! The lady in WHSmith spoiled it on the way home though, by asking me if I was getting my hosptial reading in - so I replied with "Hardly! I've got 10 weeks to go yet" - felt a bit mean for being so short with her afterwards though.

Sleeping any better Toots? I think I might be having your share this week. How about you Bean?

Bibiboo · 12/08/2004 15:32

Just spotted the Due in August thread - vvvvvvv jealous

beansprout · 12/08/2004 15:49

Fab news Bibi - sounds much more civilised, am really pleased for you!

Have been sleeping like a baby (are you listening Beanie?!), albeit one that has to get up several times to go the toilet. Long may it continue. Feel able to deal with things now - much more civilised!

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 12/08/2004 15:56

Glad the no-sleeping was a blip - long may the snoozing continue!

Toots · 12/08/2004 17:32

You're such a lovely bunch. Just wanted to say that. Speak soon.

Toots · 13/08/2004 09:46

I've been thinking about you too Allyco. If you're dropping in, huge hugs, and all best possible wishes for everything you're going through.

Last night's guests cancelled at quarter to seven - not too cross as one a due December moose who'd been battling with an unmedicated migraine all day, poor thing.

DP and I ate for four, and I felt gargantuan. Yesterday was a day of frantic juggling - looking after dd, cooking, trying to fill out my maternity benefits form and feeling like I'd been given a double dose of sleeping draft. Today has to be the most excellent work day, have monumental amount of stuff to come up with. Next fortnight, dd on nursery holiday. Can't believe I haven't arranged any proper alternative childcare. Will cope, though. Old childminder might be a possibility in second week, and there are playdates to be had.

Dreamt about nurseries all night following that doc. Up four times for wee, including one cramp and one heartburn. What's our record do you think???? Sooz, are nocturnal wees any more fun on a new loo???

huppa · 13/08/2004 10:14

Hi, sounds like we´re all getting a bit fed up and can´t wait for it to be over. Have to say I had a horrible day with DD on Wednesday - tantrums in supermarket, refusing to walk etc. etc. Really began to think I must be mad to be having another. Yesterday was completely different - lovely , laughing and cooperative and I began to think maybe there is a chance I´ll survive the next few months/years.
Went to my first antenatal class yesterday. Wasn´t initially sure whether to go second time round, but found it really useful last time swapping ideas and info with other mums. Course was o.k. but everyone a bit on the quiet side, but sure this will improve when we get to know each other a bit better.
Can I just ask how everyone´s doing on the name front? We still haven´t come up with anything we can agree on even though we know we´re having a boy. Same thing happened last time and ended up looking through names books in the delivery room while the epidural was working. Luckily we had a girl because we´d already got a girl´s name, but still hadn´t got a boy´s name when she popped out. I don´t necessarily want to know what your names are (if we ever agree it will be top secret until after the birth so that we don´t have to listen to people saying they don´t like it) just wondered if you have already decided.

beansprout · 13/08/2004 10:46

Hi everyone, tired Bean here as didn't sleep too well last night (boo). Beanie staged his (her) own version of the opening ceremony for the Olympics at 5am this morning, so that was the end of sleep!

Huppa - we have a boys name but are still really stuck for a dd. Dp is convinced we will "just know" but I am way too much of a control freak to buy that!

Toots - good luck with your childcare arrangements. Am full of admiration for those of you who already have ds/dds, let alone working too.

The pedometer I ordered months ago (off a cereal packet) finally arrived today. Isn't it great when the universe takes the p*ss out of you?!!
