I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I'm in the same boat Oklahoma, although pretty much all of the GPs at my surgery are rubbish. But this is a new one today... Fingers crossed we both get what we need.

Sorry you had a rubbish weekend, it seems we all did sadly. Here's hoping for a better week. Waves to all.

Melleebacca · 15/05/2017 08:29

Oklahoma - how far along are you? I found from Weeks 6-16 ondansetron limited ny vomiting to mostly only in the evenings (after 4pm), with an occasional morning session. From 16w vomiting began to wane and i now take ondansetron to control the nausea.
In my opinion, ondansetron has a limit of how much it can help, say reduce the sickness by 30%, and then the rest of it is your body's improvement. If that makes sense?

Oklahoma · 15/05/2017 08:46

I'm 12+6 today. The ondansetron reduced the vomiting significantly but the nausea only a little. I have been taking it for 4 weeks now but the vomiting is getting worse and the nausea is back in full force. I thought it was a hormone surge of something at first but it's been about ten days now and is steadily eating worse so I'm now wondering if the ondansetron just isn't working as well.

satsoooma · 15/05/2017 08:49

Oklahoma I dont know how much ondansetron you are taking. Oddly I found it has really helped to switch from 2 doses of 8 mg a day to 4 doses of 4 mg. Not sure why.

I think some people here take more than 16 mg per day too so you could try that (although make sure you have some good constipation meds ready). Otherwise see if you can mix it with some other meds. I'm finding prochlorperazine and ondansetron a pretty magical combination.

Oklahoma · 15/05/2017 08:55

I'm on a combination of promethazine and ondansetron. Prochlorperazine really didn't agree with me last time so I think that's a no no. I'm taking 3x4mg a day but am allowed to take double that. The 3x4 was broadly working though, what I don't understand is why it isn't anymore. I really don't want to take more drugs, this poor baby is having enough already.

Melleebacca · 15/05/2017 09:01

It is strange to be losing efficiency after working well for so long. If it wasn't going to work for you, you probably would've known after a few days, 2 weeks at the absolute max.
I did find sickness to be really bad around week 9/10 to 14, so perhaps you're going through that?

Melleebacca · 15/05/2017 09:03

Also, on days I did feel really atrocious, it could usually be related to dehydration or the foods I ate. Can't do red meat or anything sweet.

BeautifulLiar · 15/05/2017 09:08

I'm due December 29th - tbc at scan x

DeadDoorpost · 15/05/2017 09:25

I'm due 19th November but husband was 3 weeks late and ideas 10 days early so it could go either way 😂😂 just feels good to have the tablets working now.. one ondansetron seems to last for a good 20 hours for me which is magical. Hallelujah

peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/05/2017 09:38

I'm in the top 5!

And crazy to see December due dates - I was you three years ago Smile

I could only tolerate flat Lucozade for a while when feeling particularly bad. I would never usually drink that, but whatever gets fluid into you is absolutely acceptable, whatever it is. Definitely try ice lollies and fridge-cold jelly pots as well.

HGpg · 15/05/2017 09:42

Hi All
Just thought I would share my update as a steroid user (if you're thinking muscly Adonis, it's more 5ft midget with a puffy steroid face).
After 2 weeks on the highest dose (50mg/day), I saw the consultant who has dropped me to 40mg/day, as in line with strategy. First day on the lower dose I was sick about 6 times, but still managed to work (I CAN handle this), and no sick since Friday! Even managed a Sunday lunch and meal out over the weekend, which is an actual miracle. Still nausea central but handling that with cyclizine and metoclopramide. Honestly I could shout from the rooftops over the joy of steroids - I wish I could sprinkle them on to all of you! From someone who 2.5 weeks ago was being sick 40-50 times a day, bringing up blood and the doctor telling me my body cannot continue with this pregnancy, it is actually a miracle. Dose drops again on Friday to 35mg, so let's hope the good times continue. Until then I will be stuffing my face.....

LOVING the baby news - it makes me cry every time I hear of someone reaching the end of the horror that is pregnancy.

LucindaE · 15/05/2017 09:43

Must rush out but wanted to update the list.
Hollyhop Sorry about lost lunch and cold.
Oklahoma Aha, now you are indeed moving up that list. A few people have found that, and have had to take it with cyclizine. It's awful having to take a cocktail of meds and people do worry about the baby, but people have honestly been on all sorts of meds on these threads and in all these years, no connected abnormalities reported.

peace when was your December baby born? I've broken my own rule of not having a baby around this time of year... And mine are getting earlier so I'm slightly worried about Christmas Day! The house will be bloody mental though with no 5 arriving in the Christmas holidays...

Lemondrop09 · 15/05/2017 10:20

Just to quickly say it's International HG Awareness Day! PSS have lots going on on their FB page. I've also written and shared my own post because I want people to understand more about this condition. It's getting a good response already. Just thought I'd mention in case anyone else wants to join in. HG definitely needs more awareness I feel, with unsuspecting first time sufferers, friends, family and medical professionals.

Hope everyone has a good day!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/05/2017 12:23

DS was due 27th but came on 17th. I was born on 29th though Grin my mum is still bitter about missing her 1985 Christmas dinner Hmm

BeautifulLiar · 15/05/2017 12:39

Ahh really! ExSIL was born on the 29th too. She didn't seem to mind too much. Just hope it's not too cold and we're stuck in the house! Anything has got to be better than this shitty sickness though...

peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/05/2017 13:21

I hope yours comes a bit early so you can actually enjoy all the Xmas treats!
Also top tip: those Xmas tubs of cheeselets and celebrations are perfect for long nights of cluster feeding Grin

LucindaE · 15/05/2017 13:31

HGpg Great news about the steroids helping so much. I am glad to hear that.
Lemondrop09 Do tell me where your post is - love to read it. Blush I forgot today was the day!
I wonder how many babies are actually born on 25 December?

pippanippa · 15/05/2017 14:26

HGpg what a great update, glad things are a bit better for you.

Another bad day here, ah well!

Lucinda I forgot to give you my due date, same as deaddoorpost 19th November. Feels a long way away...

argh! I am so constipated. I have not been able to go for 2 days.

Tried senna last night and bisacodyl this morning. Starting to panic, as bisacodyl has never not worked before. Just swigged some lactulose and will see if I can keep some prunes down later. Then I'm gonna take two more bisacodyl tonight. If I don't go by morning, I think I'll have to endure the indignaties of a trip to the GP :'(

DeadDoorpost · 15/05/2017 16:10

Pippanippa eeeyyyyyyyy! Race you to the finish line! Im actually a bit further along than i thought as predicted date was 23rd but my dates are obviously out with body functions etc. Not that I'm complaining coz I didn't want a Christmas baby anyway. But yeah. Woop.

DeadDoorpost · 15/05/2017 16:13

satsooma If it makes you feel any better my constipation lasted almost 3 weeks. I've not been since Wednesday now either. Just glad I'm not in pain and that I'm kinda used to this.

satsoooma · 15/05/2017 16:14

Thanks deaddoorpost. I am used to going more than once a day, so hate this. Also been scared to death by poor Holly's experiences. Bloody ondansetron!
