I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

You are so lucky flossy well in the tea front anyway.

I feel your pain satsooma I'm the exact same, coffee is always my first aversion closely followed by tea and chocolate then everything else lol.

I honestly can't think of anything I find palatable at the moment.

Oklahoma · 19/05/2017 11:33

The smell of coffee is a guaranteed puke on the spot for me currently. The thought of tea isn't much more appealing. HG really does suck.

flossyfloss · 19/05/2017 11:44

Has anyone had ondansetron work and then stop working? I'm looking to this like it's a miricale cure Confused we go to America in 4 weeks and I really hope I will be well enough to go, it's all riding on the meds they discharge me with xx

satsoooma · 19/05/2017 11:57

Honestly flossy I felt amazing in hospital, but a few weeks later (on ondansetron and prochloraperazine) while I feel miles better, I would not be up for such a long journey.

Everyone is different though. I hope ondansetron is a miracle cure for you :)

pippanippa · 19/05/2017 12:43

Flossy last pregnancy I travelled to the US at about 6 months pregnant. The flight was difficult I'm not going to lie, and involved a lot of running back and forwards to dry heave in the toilet, but it was do-able at that stage. I took some scented sick bags with me just in case for when the seatbelt light was on, mainly for my own peace of mind.

If you go, just make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance which covers your HG in case you need to be hospitalised. Oh and be warned, depending on the airport sometimes queues at immigration are extremely long, we waited well over an hour, so worth bringing something you can sit on (e.g. a small hand luggage suitcase) in case you feel faint / something to drink / snacks....you know the drill!

LucindaE · 19/05/2017 13:21

Hollhop All luck at the appointment.
Flossyfloss With luck and these meds, you will have turned the corner. Most people find things get so much better some way into the second tri. Was there a pattern with the other pregnancies?

OP posts:
LucindaE · 19/05/2017 13:23

pippasnippa You were very brave to take that flight. I had to smile about those scented sick bags, though; never heard of those; very genteel and discreet - as long as one is a quiet puker [wink} . I am NOT.

Hollyhop17 · 19/05/2017 13:42

I flew to the US 9/10 weeks. HG hadnt been diagnosed then but I was already suffering. I wont lie, it wasnt the best flight I've had, like someone up thread, lots of dry heaving in the loos. I luckily wasnt sick on the flight. Best of luck, hopefully ondansetron will help massively with it, I was stuck on cyclizine at the time that did nothing for me.

Scan was brilliant. He is measuring on the 70th centile, but within completely normal ranges, amniotic fluid normal. Crucially he is following the line of growth from his last scan, which to my mind is even more evidence I dont have GD. They werent worried at all. He was always going to be big, his dad is over 6'3 and was 9'5 when he was born. I am feeling much calmer. Plus wasnt sick yesterday or today yet.

Oklahoma you trooper! Cant imagine moving right now so huge props to you. Hope it goes well and you're able to take lots of rest.

pippanippa · 19/05/2017 13:51

Lucinda each one even came with a little lemon scented wet wipe - I used to carry them around with me everywhere I went. Sadly I can't find them this time around, so it's less glamorous scented nappy bags!

Holly that's great news on your scan!

Hollyhop17 · 19/05/2017 14:06

Thanks Pippa. I am trying my hardest to be positive after a really rough couple of days. My DH is off at the moment so we are finally getting round to deciding what to do with the nursery! Hope you're having a good day.

Lemondrop99 · 19/05/2017 15:56

Ondansetron is good but not a miracle. I still have days when I feel bad and vomit etc, im just ten times worse without it! Out babymoon is going to be to the Isle of Wight! Not what I had hoped for but I can't bare the thought of a flight or being away from the NHS. Definitely getgood travel insurance for the US.

Glad you had a good scan Holly Smile My nausea comes and goes. I'm currently more nauseous than actual vomiting. Some days I'm not very nauseous. Lots of dry heaving today but not vomiting yet.

I'm fairly sure I'm feeling fist kicks now (21 weeks tomorrow) so I'm REALLY pleased about that as I'm feeling a little more relaxed about my scan next week

BeautifulLiar · 19/05/2017 16:12

Congrats on the kicks Lemon :)

First vomit today, ugh. Shocked that I got to 8 weeks until it happened!

Hollyhop17 · 19/05/2017 16:33

Yay for feeling kicks Lemon! Round about the same time as me as well. It is a gift and a curse, welcome to wondering if they are moving enough! Although no pattern in the beginning so lovely to just feel the random movements :)

Sorry about the vom Beautiful. Are you on any meds?

As cliche as it sounds, we are having a Mickey themed room. We both love Disney and would love to be more creative but have decided to move next year so dont want to spend a fortune on a room he will barely be in. Still, been nice to pick out some wall stickers, paint, curtains etc. Isn't it amazing how much more productive you can be on the days when the nausea is at bay? I'm in danger of getting carried away and thinking its finally over...

BeautifulLiar · 19/05/2017 17:41

Holly - another Disney fan here :) Do you have any name ideas for your boy?

I'm on cyclizine and I took one this morning. Didn't take any yesterday and had an ok day Confused feel so, so rough today. It's hard to see the end in sight.

HaichM · 19/05/2017 17:44

Holly: glad to hear you've had a good day and that the scan went well. It is always a relief to get confirmation that they are OK. Glad you got lots of support from MAU and others and that it made you feel more positive. I hope things work out alright with the GD. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Yay about the nursery too. We can't even begin to think about such things yet: it really looks like the mortgage is going to be approved (touch wood) but how long the rest of the process takes and how long until we can move in is anyone's guess. A Mickey themed room sounds fab and fun.

Lemon: woo on the movements. Enjoy them Smile I've started to have some of the uncomfortable ones as baby continues to get big. There's still relief when they move though. I don't think feeling it will ever get old.

Flossy: glad you went to hosp and got meds and fluids. Hope the ondansetron keeps working for you

Hi to everyone else

Hollyhop17 · 19/05/2017 17:58

Thank you Haich. Are you in the process of buying? Fingers crossed you get approval soon. We've just remortgaged, just got approved today so a reduction in mortgage is very welcome ahead of mat leave. How far along are you? Hope you've had a goodish day.

Beautiful, yes I am one of those uber organised, probably very annoying, people who had names picked out before I was pregnant! His name will be Zach Smile. Do you have nursery plans? I've found some awesome wall stickers on amazon! Its nice to chat about something other than the horrors of HG on this thread sometimes.

Mustang27 · 19/05/2017 18:44

Oh trust me it gets old when they are bruising your ribs internally and you can't eat anything between HG and no bloody room for your own organs haha.

My wee one kicked me so hard once I actually fell off the sofa lol

BeautifulLiar · 19/05/2017 18:52

Holly I like Zach, but my friend had one last year! I have a 14 month old, and did her a nursery a few months ago, as I wasn't expecting to ever have any more babies (husband had walked out on us, I was single). It's pale pink walls, one with glitter paint Blush and one feature wall with gorgeous girly bookcase wallpaper. She was born on World Book Day last year so it seemed fitting. Think we'll be keeping the nursery like that as it's only a few months old and I paid a decorator to do it, so if I have a little boy then he'll have a very pretty bedroom Grin

LucindaE · 19/05/2017 20:14

Lemondrop I love the Isle of Wight (it was there that many years ago my family of origin bought the Snakes and Ladders board which had the famous Pink Castle on the winning square, and Hyperemesis being like a horrible game of Snakes and Ladders -drink a glass of water, go forward and up a ladder, - get told to try ginger by medic, down a snake -I thought of that Pink Castle at the end). Congratulations on kicks. Also, Hollyhop.
Do you mean feathery movements or stronger movements? I don't know at all why some people feel movements early - under fourteen weeks for me - and others later. Is it the position of the baby, the placenta, or what?
BeautifulLiar Much sympathy over vomit. There is a ray of sunshine, though; those who don't have the vomiting until a bit later on this thread on average don't seem to suffer quite as badly as those who suffer really early. Maybe it won't be quite as violent this time, with luck. Lol about if boy baby has a pink room. Did you do the decorating? That pink glitter wallpaper sounds wonderful.
Waves to all...Watch me cross post.

Mustang Lol about violent baby!

Beautiful: traditionally pink was actually for boys and for many boys its a favourite colour until they hear too many times that its a girl thing. My DS still adores pink because I refuse to let it be an issue and would love a pink bedroom with lego/superhero/starwars themed extras.

Holly: Zach is a great name. We also had names picked out early. In fact, on our first year anniversary we picked out some girl and boy names. One was used for DS and one of the girl ones was changed slightly but they're still our choices now too. We have Jacob or Ciaran, Emily or Hannah.

I am 29.5 weeks so I'm trying not to get anxious about how long it is taking. I have visions of moving now in July, last minute and it making my health worse. I was hoping to move, settle in and have a baby shower like end of June, beg of July at latest. We will just have to see I guess. It's annoying though as it means we can't do nursery or buy much for baby and it's all going to be last minute once we've moved. We have some clothes and nappies and part of a pram and that's it...

Oooo tell me more about these wall stickers from Amazon. My SIL has decorated both her children's bedrooms with some and hers look fab. You're right as well, it's nice to talk about positive things that aren't necessarily HG related.

The end of the week has been much better for me than the beginning. Obv the day off and cry on Tues was what I needed. I was actually reasonably productive today and have managed to paint my nails and watch a film with DH tonight.

I hope others have had good days and have some nice plans for the weekend too

Lemondrop99 · 19/05/2017 23:54

Zack is a lovely name! We haven't settled on ours but I currently have a very strong preference for one particular name.

I'm having a Harry Potter themed nursery! (I'll be devastated if my son grows up and decides he doesn't like Harry Potter 😱)

After a shaky morning, I had a good evening. I managed to join in with a short choir performance for a fundraiser and then dinner with a friend. Annoyingly had to avoid dairy as I'm taking a bisacodyl tonight - it was really hard! All the meals had cheese and desserts were dairy. Made me feel sorry for lactose intolerant people trying to eat out, it's hard! I'm feeling quite good compared to how I was yesterday. Hoping it stays as I have a busy weekend ahead and friends staying over 🤞🏻

Hope everyone has a better weekend than the week has been for most of you....

Lemondrop99 · 19/05/2017 23:58

Sorry Zach (I'm fairly sure I write that and my phone autocorrected it to Zack!!!

Melleebacca · 20/05/2017 02:16

Holly - Zach is a gorgeous name. DDs name begins with a Z too and we just love it. Hopefully all turns out well with GD, my SIL grows large babies (10/11lbs) so had to do rigorous GD testing, but was given the all clear.

Beautiful - I painted DDs bike a few weeks ago, bright yellow as they were sold out of pink glitter. I think kids don't really care about colours, it's adults that give them the mindset.

Lemon - yay for kicks! Although nice to know baby is there and happy, would be nice if the kicks weren't so frequent at bedtime.

Flossy - sorry to hear about your hospital stay. I hope they give you heaps of ondansetron and it keeps working for you. It's not a magical cure, but it should limit the vomiting enough that you can eat and drink. All the best for your overseas trip. HG does take the shine off such things.

Coping ok here. Lots of nausea and retching, but believe it's all due to exhaustion and the stress of house guests. Only 4 more days to go.

Waves to all that I've missed

Melleebacca · 20/05/2017 02:20

Oh - anyone else finding that on days you're not permanently attached to the porcelain god, that people seem to forget that you're ill? I haven't vomited in ages, but I still have awful nausea, and had a meltdown this morning about how I'm expected to be a good host etc, when all I want to do is not relapse further.

NonStopDisco · 20/05/2017 02:27

Melleebacca yep!
Parents: how are you feeling?
Me:actually in the last few days I've been managing to keep food down
Parents: so you're better now? Great, we'll come round for lunch and stay for fucking hours
Me: I just want to sleep actually, or see the husband that I've not spent real time with in ages...
