I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

The sedation is horrible, isn't it Satsooma. I had it with promethazine. It wasn't until I stopped taking it that I realised just how zombified it was making me.

She is beautiful Serious. I know people always say that about newborns, but I really mean it. She had the most angelic face

DeadDoorpost · 14/05/2017 14:21

Satsooma yeah I'm doing that but I can still taste it as it travels through my gum to the back of my teeth. I don't know what's happening. Not taken anything today. I'm seeing how long this ondansetron tablet lasts for. Took one last night about half 12... so over 12 hours so far! Rather happy to not feel sick in the slightest.

BeautifulLiar · 14/05/2017 14:35

How do I go about getting ondansetron?? Beg the GP?

DeadDoorpost · 14/05/2017 15:09

I had to go through 3 other drugs first. So I don't know. You might be lucky but tell the GP it's bad sickness you've got. Someone else might have better suggestions though

BeautifulLiar · 14/05/2017 16:04

Thank you x

satsoooma · 14/05/2017 16:08

Basically, yes beautifulliar. It is good, but expensive so they will make you try others first. I got it by getting admitted to hospital and having the doctor (who did not want to prescribe it herself as expensive) write on my discharge notes that my GP should try it if none of the stuff she was discharging me with worked. Then after a few days I used my discharge notes to demand ondanestron from my GP :)

Meowstro · 14/05/2017 18:09

Dropping in again after about 8 weeks trying to work with nausea and a few scattered voms, which thankfully was mostly successful due to Ondansteron, just so exhausting. Another GP (gynaecologist, I might add) has now taken me off of it and switched it to prochlorperazine as I'm entering the third trimester and has told me only to take the pills only when I'm vomiting, not to stop my nausea because of risks plainly highlighted in the leaflet and concerning at this stage of pregnancy, she told me nothing is safe so really shouldn't have anything Sad When she mentioned ginger, I lost all faith in speaking to her about this ever again.

I've not been as bad as the first trimester, at least yet, but in 4 days I'm vomming everywhere not knowing if it's just nausea. I'm so scared of having to be off of work with only a couple of months left before maternity leave. I'm so happy to see that there have been little bundles of joy here recently, it's actually made me cry with happiness, thank you!

LucindaE · 14/05/2017 18:34

Someone asked about constipation and it is a menace with Ondansetron. You can get the jelly suppositories from Boots, but they won't sell them to a pregnant woman, though they use them in hospital, so you have to send a messenger unless you can use one where they don't know you. There is also lactulose. I have known brave souls who have taken fibregel, but how they reained it, I have no idea.
BeautifulLiar
The problem about obtaining Ondansetron is that they like to put you through all the tried and tested for many decades remedies first - cyclizine, etc, but if you phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7368 2020 they may be able to advise the best way. They will phone back.
Meowstro Oh dear, that specialist does seem to be against any and all drugs - it might be an idea to phone that number too, for advice about circumventing it.
Much sympathy to Hollyhop and all those feeling bad and Lemondrop, I do hope the rice did not reappear - aagh! Envy

HaichM Mother Hen says, naturally, don't go in. You sound as if you'd be too ill to work anyway.

Thanks Lucinda. Can we have a due date list update?! I'd like to cheer myself up by seeing how far up it I've moved... Still find it odd I'm the only July date!

pippanippa · 14/05/2017 18:53

Can anyone else cheer me up with stories of an equally crap day? It's mothers day here and bless him my husband made pancakes for breakfast and bought a small cake for me on behalf of my little girl. Unfortunately you can guess the outcome. In fact no food has stayed down today, I have a horrible headache, my stomach feels like it's in knots and tomorrow I will have to look after our very energetic toddler all alone. On the plus side the cake did taste really good - and it hasn't put me off cake for life!

Anyone else having one of those days?? Oh, and Meowstro what an awful experience at the doctor. I have ginger rage on your behalf. Why, oh why do they do it as if after weeks and months of suffering you haven't tried anything and everything to make it stop. Also, are they completely ignorant of just how bad it tastes on its return, the burning!!

BeautifulLiar · 14/05/2017 19:02

Very crap day here, too.

I didn't get out of bed until 6pm, and that was to have a shower. I've bought a shower stool thing to sit on which helps loads. I don't feel as dizzy after a shower now.

Just going to have fizzy sweets for tea

flossyfloss · 14/05/2017 19:26

I feel really bad as I have discovered Lucozade is really helping the nausea, regular small sips makes me feel so much better but I'm sure it's not good for me Confused

BeautifulLiar · 14/05/2017 19:36

I'm living off caffeine free Pepsi at night and Pepsi Max ginger in the day time. Sometimes lucozade too. We don't really have a choice do we? :(

pippanippa · 14/05/2017 19:39

Sorry to hear of your day BeautifulLiar. Pepsi addict here too, couldn't survive pregnancy without it!

BeautifulLiar · 14/05/2017 19:45

Glad I'm not the only one!

I've got the school run to do tomorrow and I'm dreading it. Have booked the older two into after school club every day though

HaichM · 14/05/2017 20:50

Beautifulliar: i have had a bad day too though thankfully sickness free. I also have the school run tomorrrow, which I'm not looking forward to but I'm more nervous about the bus a couple of hours later. I have a 6 hour day tomorrow which I'm probably not going to manage if I'm anything like this but I should at least show my face and get stuff ready for the class...

Good idea with the after school clubs. Hope tomorrow goes Ok

LucindaE · 14/05/2017 20:57

Nobody should feel bad about drinking sugary drinks like coke and lucoazade- there is indeed no choice. The most important thing is to remain hydrated. The amount of hefty babies born on a diet of such things as tinned peaches and cheap ice cream on this thread is amazing!

Thanks Lucinda. 11 births to go until I'm top of the list! That has cheered me up. I'm at 5 days in a row now Sad. My grandparents took us out for a sunday roast and half of it came back up. The worst bit was my nan following me into the loo, trying to talk to me as I was being sick... She was only trying to help but asking if I'm ok as I'm heaving wasnt ideal.

Given how awful my work have treated me, and the fact that I'm feeling a bit down again, I'm going to get signed off work again. I've just lost the will to care about my job anymore.

Also having a bad day, think I'm getting a cold which is umbearable in pregnancy I find. I hate not being able to take any medicine, especially to help me breathe/sleep at night Sad.

flossyfloss · 14/05/2017 21:13

I'm actually bottom of the list! Yey Oklahoma!

I'm due 14th jan Smile

HaichM · 14/05/2017 21:19

Holly: i hope you don't get a cold. It's my first one this pregnancy and I hate it. Sorry about the sickness and the bad day. It's probably best about getting signed off. You don't need the stress and negativity

I'm living on orange juice at the moment, though not so much this weekend, and I'm trying to ignore what it's doing to my teeth

Hollyhop17 · 14/05/2017 21:36

Thanks Haich. I had a bad cold early on, around 8/9 weeks and not being able to take any night nurse was utterly horrific. Really hope its nowhere near as bad this time.

I am living on sugar free squash and I have pretty much always been able to keep it down. After 7 months I am bored to tears of it though. Having one of those pregnancy really sucks moments...

No longer bottom of the list Oklahoma! Sorry you are flossy. Hopefully pre-emptively taking meds will mean you wont suffer as badly this time.

NonStopDisco · 14/05/2017 21:46

Evening all!
Just to say I've had to change my name, as apparently "DevilWearsPrimark" was very similar to PBP's name

Congratulations to Serious upthread, gorgeous child.

Basically this weekend reverted to throwing up all food again, after I thought a corner was being turned, so (much like flossy I've survived on Lucozade sport. Friday was such a good day though, and I actually ate lunch in public, and it was more substantial that melon bits or plain crisps!

DH is taking it all quite badly as well, as he's been doing everything around the house, just had a new job, and feels he's not doing enough, and not doing any of it well enough. There's been some days when I've not got out of bed during the weekend (and during the week if I've been off work) because I've been exhausted from throwing up, or lacking in energy from not really eating, or the drugs have made me so out out of it, and it's obviously hard on him as well.

Mustang27 · 15/05/2017 08:06

Lucindae I'm 18th of Dec but will reconfirm after first scan which should be in the next 2 weeks at some point. Hopefully that makes Oklahoma feel a wee bit better.

So the cyclizine stemetil cocktail seems to be helping with the sickness and nausea but I'm still feeling awful. Did manage to eat a really plain tuna salad for my tea last night and kept it down was proud lol.

I'm only 9 weeks and I'm definitely starting to show, I realise a lot of it is likely bloating but I'm coeliac and have ibs so I'm used to bloating and this is defo a pregnant bump Hmm. I took ages with my first to show. Any other early bumps?

Oklahoma · 15/05/2017 08:19

I'm not laaaaaaaast!!!!! Equally crap weekend here. Spent most of it in bed or vomiting. Lucinda do people find ondansetron stops working so well? It only ever reduced the vomiting, it never stopped it but it seems to be ramping up again. i was supposed to see my amazing GP today but they've just rung to say he's not going to be in and have booked me in with someone else instead. Panicking now. I need more of all my drugs and a new sick note. What if I get someone rubbish?!? Gah!

Will catch up and reply to everyone this afternoon.
