I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

holly I've not looked at wall stickers yet, but I saw a gorgeous Quentin Blake wallpaper that I love! Zack is a lovely name!

mustang at least the baby has strong legs, I guess!

pippanippa · 20/05/2017 06:19

Mellee yes, exactly this! Recently visited in-laws, to give me a rest, every time I felt marginally better they wanted me to go out for dinner with them and were very put out when I said no. Have them visiting again soon to 'help', but I know I will just end up having to cook / clean / be tour guide etc to be a good host.

Lemondrop99 · 20/05/2017 08:05

Yes Mellee, I've said to my DH that to some extent (at least recently for me since my vomiting episodes reduced in frequency), the nausea and the constipation are having a much bigger impact. I turn up to things and people say "oh you look so much better"....but I still feel rubbish. Seems once you try and do a few normal things, people suddenly think you're better.

Melleebacca · 20/05/2017 08:07

Nonstop & Pippa - it's awful! Family is pretty good, they get stomach bugs and call to say sorry about how much Ive put up with, but seem to forget that it's on-going. Everyone seems shocked when I say "I can't eat that because I don't want to be sick all day".

Hope everyone is having a better day. I'm hiding in bed from my house guests because I don't care if they think I'm awful. The house is clean, I've made dinner, that's the extent of my energy level.

Mustang27 · 20/05/2017 08:08

Lucindae & nonstop he has really strong legs still, he was super long though the midwives couldn't get over how long he was.

Oh god everyone that is saying as soon as you do something out of your normal or are not sick everyone thinks you are better, I get it my oh is included in this fuck wittery. I'm still being sick every day and last night because I ate half a pizza and was sick they said maybe you just have to eat small amounts not big meals and you won't be sick HmmI'm sick regardless of wether I eat a cracker or a whole sandwich. It feels like your not believed when it comes to how ill you are. I was like just so you fecking know you twats!! It's not good to just retch and bring up bile that is worse for me so I prefer to bring up food.

Hugs for you all

Melleebacca · 20/05/2017 08:37

Mustang - I have food aversions, sugar seems to really make the nausea etc worse. Some people just assume I'm dieting, and it really riles me up. If chocolate didn't currently taste like puke and make my stomach twist, I would be eating it by the block.

Lemon - constipation and nausea is worse than vomiting in my opinion. At least after puking you feel a few minutes of relief, nausea is constant.

Melleebacca · 20/05/2017 08:40

Mustang - I used to eat custard and yoghurt straight after puking, to help with the acid burning and to ensure something was in my belly for the next time around.

Mustang27 · 20/05/2017 08:49

Massive food aversion too. Toast and cold slices of cheese are all I can manage so I thought I'd try a gf pizza it was awful and I paid for it but I puke up the couple of slices of toast and cheese I eat a day. That's what I get too because I'm maybe consuming about 700 calories most days a chunk of those in lucozade and I'm still vomiting. It was just totally insensitive it was the one slightly larger meal iv had since HG set in nearly a month ago. I just hate being blamed for this Confused.

That could be a plan but I don't feel even slightly better after I vomit but that's totally worth a try. I find most dairy impossible except cheese weird huh. Not tried custard though.

questsabelletreetop · 20/05/2017 09:18

Has anyone else has restless legs as a side effect of Cyclizine? It's driving me mad, could barely sleep last night Confused

Hollyhop17 · 20/05/2017 09:25

YES YES YES to all the above posts. Mellee my family have been quite bad anyway 'you havent been in hospital you cant be that bad'. I think because we live far away, they havent really seen me be that sick. They dont seem to understand that 24/7 nausea is utterly horrific and so hard to deal with. As soon as you have a few 'good days' it is assumed you can resume normal life. After months and months of experience with this bastard condition, it doesnt really work like that. Sadly, only people who have actually experienced it, seem to get that. God, this has really riled me up! Sorry for the outburst, I too am so tired of having to conform to some picture of what a 'truly ill' person looks like.

Thanks for the name love, we love it! I have enjoyed talking to him and using his name for months now, personally has helped me with bonding. Completely agree re colour. If pink is his favourite colour you can bet he's getting a room in pink.

Huge props to those of you entertaining! I definitely couldnt have people to stay. Try and get DH to do as much as possible. Hope it doesnt set anyone back.

Lemon, so happy you got to choir for a bit. Hope it gave you a good mh boost.

Waves to all, I am hoping for my 3rd straight green sticker on my wall chart today...!

pippanippa · 20/05/2017 09:46

Quest I think restlessness might be one of the side effects unfortunately - how frustrating though! Maybe another type might suit you better, I think there might be other similar medicines available in the UK, but can't remember their names - sorry.

Am wondering if anyone can help with a question here too (sorry it's long)? Things have got a bit worse over the past couple of weeks (will be 14 weeks tomorrow) so I tried the combination of meclizine and metoclopramide (sorry if mis-spelt!) which the dr. recommended. This didn't help at all so I've just gone back to the meclizine alone.

I am still very very lucky in that mostly the nausea is under control except for bad days. But the vomiting is really picking up and is up to 6-8 times most days now and I am feeling more unwell as time passes, making it more difficult to take care of my daughter. This is mainly because of the dizziness, tiredness, headaches etc which you'd expect with not eating or drinking quite as much as I should be. I am still able to keep enough food down to function through regular snacking, and enough water to ensure I'm not getting too dehydrated. Every few days I have a good day which seems to put me back on track a little bit, to keep me well out of that hospitalisation zone so although I am losing weight it's at a non-alarming, slow rate.

I feel like the meclizine is keeping me out of the HG zone and just in the bad morning sickness grey area. So, given that I'm really lucky to not feel too nauseous most days, and can keep ticking over, I guess I'm not sure whether it's best to go and push for the next step up in meds or ride this out? I know it's not going to go away any time soon as last time the sickness persisted throughout pregnancy. Just wondering at what point you make your peace with it and say - 'ok, I'm ill but it could be worse'. My family are on at me a little to push for something stronger, but I think they're labouring under the pretence that there's some miracle cure out there, I don't want to get into that mindset as I think disappointment awaits. Plus, I'm aware that the stronger medicines are usually used after hospitalisation, I don't want to be making a mountain out of a molehill.

pippanippa · 20/05/2017 09:49

I'm so sorry that was so long - and also sorry for complaining, I know I'm so lucky not to be suffering too bad with the nausea this time round, I remember it from last time and that is truly crippling, so it all feels a bit silly for me to be moaning in comparison to what many of you are enduring!

Hollyhop17 · 20/05/2017 10:03

Dont apologise to us for complaining Pippa. It sounds awful. My suggestion is to try ondansetron. Doesnt hugely help with the nausea, but does help with limiting the sickness. Just because you havent been in hospital doesnt mean you arent very ill. I've never been on a drip either, but I was prescribed ondansetron, as finally they could see that nothing else had worked.

flossyfloss · 20/05/2017 11:37

I had a lovely nights sleep in my own bed last night after coming home from hospital and I'm so happy with the ondansetron results, they are bringing my nausea down to a 2/10 where's without or when they start to wear off it's 10/10 and I haven't vomited since Thursday Smile

How often do you take your ondansetron? I was told every 8 hours but I've been taking it after 7 as from 6 hours the nausea comes backConfused I'm only taking 3 in 24 hours. I've also got metochlopramide and cyclizine although the cyclizine does nothing except sedate me so I'm only taking that at night.

Determined to be well enough to go on holiday 🤞

katemeister · 20/05/2017 11:52

Hello! I've not posted in a while, sorry to see so many new people joining with nausea kicking in so early. I've been back at work for a week but really only managing about 10-2 in the office. I'm still nauseous all day but vomiting 1-2 times every other day, so there is a trend toward getting better. What some you have said about people not understanding that we are not just suddenly fixed because we had one good day is so true, and so frustrating. Yes I'm having good days now, but even on a good day I can't eat much and I'm so weak from weight loss and sickness it doesn't mean I'm fixed!!! I did one full day in the office because I believed the nonsense of being fixed myself and I was left being sick in a carpark after picking up DD - with her shouting "That's very naughty mummy you must be sick in your bowl" for the world to hear.

Even without posting this thread is so helpful to know I'm not the only one going through this, so thank you.

Mustang27 · 20/05/2017 13:22

Aww Kate if it's not mortifying enough to vomit in public, got to love our kids Smile poor you it's so hard not to just push through when you have felt utter pants for so long.

Pippa don't apologise for moaning, id push for more meds it's worth a try to see if you can get better than just the occasional functioning day. Although ondansetron isn't really working for me either Sad it's only been 4 days though so maybe it will get better.

So jealous of your 2/10 nausea moments flossy but I barely get 4 hrs out my ondansetron think I might need to get on the cyclizine too. Glad you got a good nights rest in your own bed.

LucindaE · 20/05/2017 14:01

KatemesiterYou poor thing - Public Puking is awful, but that objection from LO - entirely logical from LO's point of view - was grotesquely funny. We need a new thread! I'll do it now. I've never known one be used up so quickly; I've been caught unawares.

Hello
I really need some help. I'm 6 weeks and I'm so so sick. Constant nausea and starting to vomit.
I had HG in all my other pregnancies and tried cyclizine and prochlorperazine neither of which agreed with me. I'm terrified of having it again and dont know how I'll cope
I read that vitamin b6 can help? To be honest I don't know if anything will help and I can't stop getting panicky and crying I don't know if I can do this again
