I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lemon, I said the same to my DH. At least you get drugs in labour...

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 11:37

I was thinking the very same thing Holly!!! I need an epidural for this!

Hollyhop17 · 12/05/2017 11:51

Be glad you dont have a consultant attempting a 'manual evacuation'. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I was like how have I got here?! What poor choices in life have I made to end up in this situation...!

They did eventually give me gas and air which did sweet FA so at least I know to bloody bypass it straight to the good stuff in labour!

Sorry you're having such a rubbish day. How close are you to 20 week scan?

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 12:18

No that's true but I have had to resort to me own manual removal on several occasions....although I think I'd much rather be doing it myself that involving some random consultant! 😱 Honestly, the things these babies put us through

Ah good to know about the gas and air. I fully plan to skip it to - although I'm terrified I'll have a fast labour and won't be able to get my epidural

I don't get my 20 week scan until almost 22 weeks. It's very annoying. I think I'll be a lot happier and more relaxed once that's over and when I start feeling baby moving, which I still haven't felt yet. Scan is two weeks today.

How far along are you now Holly?

Oklahoma · 12/05/2017 13:45

I found the gas & air made me puke so would definitely approach with caution. That said I was sick with every contraction while in labour. (I gather that is pretty unusual though so please don't worry!)

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 14:00

Ergh, I feel awful Sad I had that horrible dream last night. Text my SIL this morning and she was fine. Now just heard she's had a funny turn and needed to go for a scan. I'm worried sick.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/05/2017 14:50

That's why they're called ginger snaps. They make you snap with rage Angry

What's all this about toddlers rubbing backs?! Mine makes convincing retching noises and shouts at me when I'm trying to hide in a bush and vom into a bag Hmm

Entonox made me feel queasy at first but they do tell you to stick with it and it should wear off quickly. Mine did. I only threw up from trying to drink.

HaichM · 12/05/2017 15:08

Oh no Lemon. I hope everything's ok.

Peace: good one! I'm afraid my 6 yo liked to rub my back or stroke my shoulder when being 6 too. Now I've got passed that stage, I still get lots of pats and strokes and cuddles and things. Think dh is a little jealous. He teases about it since ds will pretend to shoot dh or play fight with him rather than all the kisses and things, though he does still get those of course.

flossyfloss · 12/05/2017 15:11

The nausea has landed Sad in only 4+5 - usually by 5+4 the vomiting starts Sad was hoping I'd escape it but clearly after 4 HG pregnancies I'd have no such luck!!!

Hollyhop17 · 12/05/2017 15:57

I'm 30+2. Had a horrific day today, went out for lunch and threw the lot back up. Thats 3 days in a row now. So at my next consultant appt I am going to demand an induction, preferably for 37 weeks.

I am also asthmatic and found the gas and air made me quite wheezy.

Yeah my 20 week scan was at gone 21 weeks too, it is annoying, but he will be a bit bigger so they will be able to see more. I am sure your SIL will be just fine Lemon.

Sorry to hear the nausea has hit Flossy. As its your 5th you sadly know the drill.

flossyfloss · 12/05/2017 16:13

Thanks holly

Do I start the meds now or wait until I vomit? I've never taken pre emptive meds before

Hollyhop17 · 12/05/2017 16:31

Its only my first, but I think other ladies on here have taken them as soon as the nausea hits. I think pre-emptively taking them seems to have a good effect on how much you are actually sick going forward. I'm sure someone with better knowledge than me will be along soon!

LucindaE · 12/05/2017 16:32

IAmSerious I am so glad for you that it is today, and I so hope that was the last puke you had, this morning. You were very forbearing over those ginger biscuits - such idiocy in a trained midwife!
Hollyhop Good advice. Sorry that the vomiting continues. I hope it is less severe than the first tri?
Lemondrop That is so upsetting about your dream.Such experiences can be unnerving. Do let us know how your SIL is. Fancy your going on the tube - very brave.
I am sorry to hear that HaichM still has awful symptoms, and
the nausea has set in for flossyfloss. I hope the meds help a lot.
I am glad DeadDoorPost had a successful scan, but sorry about all that puking and having to do starjumps!
Barmaid I hope some of those liquids stay down.
SnapJack I am so glad it has been diagnosed.
Mustang and SnapJack My goodness, I am in awe of women who breast feed for so long - because I was one of the unlucky ones who found the hormones seemed to trigger the sickness, I gave up at five months - feeling very guilty. Mustang My DD was also always on the go as a toddler, just never stopped, but that is normal enough, and those who have had a quiet toddler find it exhausting. I even met of two years olds whose LO's never had tantrums: how enviable! Sometimes I had to sit it out for forty-five minutes - I timed it.
Waves to peaceloveandbiscuits and everyone.

Sorry to hear of the bad days Holly and Lemon. Mustang so glad to hear that the breastfeeding helpline was useful, it's an amazing resource, so helpful and reassuring to be able to talk to someone who really knows her stuff.

Lucinda you absolutely shouldn't feel guilty, it's amazing that you managed to breastfeed for 5 months when it made you feel poorly. I can't imagine how I'd have felt if I'd still been ill after giving birth, that's so unfair!

Peace I hope things are going well!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/05/2017 18:51

Sorry you are all suffering still

It does get better I promise once reach pink castle and all worth while when baby is here and in your arms

@mel. You don't want to be induced at 37/38

Baby will not want to come out. Being induced at 39.3 was bad enough and took 3 days of long contractions

Someone said about cyczline. I was on that and although still sick it did help with the nausea

@holly sorry you are really suffering

Waves to Shirley and peace and to all others x

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/05/2017 18:52

All worth while though

Melleebacca · 12/05/2017 19:03

I loved the gas, especially during my stitches. Got high as a kite. But I had completely emptied my stomach on arrival to the delivery room. First drug they gave me was IV ondansetron 😂

Flossy - I took the meds when the nausea hit and managed to delay the vomiting by a few days compared to DD.

Blondes - don't want to be induced, just want baby to come early. My induction date at 41+3 happens to be the start of what I refer to as 'the birthday week of hell'. Somehow 3 of my siblings and Father's Day are in the same week!

Lemon - advise from my midwife was not to cut down on ondansetron until haven't been physically sick for a few weeks. I waited 4 weeks before cutting down. Nausea has picked up since, but coping ok, I think.
Hope everything is fine with your SIL.

Iamserious - you can do! I can hear the trumpets for you at the pink castle already. Good luck.

Melleebacca · 12/05/2017 19:04

Blondes - cross posted. Gorgeous, happy baby!

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 21:29

Lucinda, massive kudos to you breastfeeding for that long even if it made you feel sick. I fully intend to try hard to breastfeed but I'm not sure I could stick with it if it meant a continuation of this sickness.

Yes Mellee, I know I shouldn't be cutting down just yet. I'm just soooooo sick of the constipation. Such a dilemma.

What a funny day here. Faintly nauseous but nothing to drastic. But so wiped out, I slept solidly from 3pm-8pm and I have no idea why! Taking a promethazine at lunchtime probably didn't help. SIL seems to be ok, they don't know what happened but hopefully she's fine.

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 21:29

Awww Blondes, what a cheeky little smile!

Starstarbright599 · 12/05/2017 21:34

Well done Blondes your reward for all the pain - very cute little thing

LucindaE · 12/05/2017 22:54

Starstarbright599 Welcome, if you are someone new and not someone under a different pen name!
Blondes What a lovely photo.
Lemondrop and pippasnippa Thank you for your kind words. Fortunately only a small number of people suffer birth and with breast feednig, a handful out of all the hundreds who have been on these threads, so I don't want anyone to worry about its happening to her! Waves to Melleebacca and everyone.

Agree with Lucinda she and I are the only two people I know who had symptoms continue with BF and after birth. It won't happen to any of you

Lemondrop09 · 13/05/2017 08:40

Can I just say..... 20 WEEKS TODAY!!!! Officially half way there (not that I'm counting or anything Wink)

It's not just the HG, I'm finding pregnancy pretty miserable in general and I just can't wait to get to the end and meet my little boy. Today feels like a big milestone Smile Although this has been the longest few months ever!

Hollyhop17 · 13/05/2017 08:55

Thats brilliant Lemon! I found a big psychological boost thinking I have done half of it now. In less than 2 weeks time you'll have your scan and then you will be much closer to the end. I think it was Mellee who said to try and have something to lool forward to each week and I have found that massively helpful.

I had a scare this morning, my LO didnt move for ages despite me prodding him. Woke up DH at 6 this morning and luckily, we got him to move. I am with you Lemon, I pretty much hate pregnancy. Even without HG I find it a pretty miserable time. Cant wait for it to be over, NEVER again...

Waves to all, hope its a better day for all of us.
