I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Zofran is a brand name for odansetron. Yes it's the one that made Holly ill but she was very unlucky. Many people find it the best drug. I have no idea about breastfeeding on it though

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 22:51

Mustang i have only ead your last 2 posts so sorry in advance if i say anything silly here.. I am.so sorry you're having suxh a crap time. I was breastfeeding for the first month or so with this HG and it was so so tough to do and amazing that you're managing it. I had to stop in the end as i ws just so weak i couldnt do it anymore and it made me sick and little one got upset. My little boy was 2y 8 months though so I was wanting to stop soon anyway and he had cut down to a couple of feeds a day so it kind of came naturally anyway.

Before I stopped I had a lot of pressure from friends and family to stop especially when I was so Ill with HG and I know how frustrating that feels if you're going through that. Your mil sounds like a pain in the butt.

Are you struggling finding foods and fluids you can tolerate? It's so hard when you find something and then 2 days later the thought it alone is unbearable.

Hang in there.

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 22:52

Thank you everyone for your kind words

Mustang27 · 11/05/2017 23:22

Thanks lemon, yeah I know Holly was unlucky and after what the midwife said I'm desperately looking for the go ahead to take that one to see if it works for me.

Oh snap my wee boy is 23 months and he is about 2 or 3 times a day and mostly sleeping through the night it's not loads for us but I still think he is benefiting from it so would really rather not stop but it's getting harder every day as I'm similar to you and just getting weaker. I also don't think he is ready yet to stop. Oh god that's so true I seem to change every day or so what I can tolerate and there is only so many times you can vomit up something before it's just not appealing anymore. She isn't awful and she has helped but she doesn't think before she opens her mouth, I may have pd her off by giving my wee one calpol today for his fever, she isn't keen on any drugs for kids Hmm. Yeah because fighting a fever and. Vomiting is so much fun when your 23 months.

Iv found that fact sheet pippa and a number so I'm going to try calling them to get some advice then get an emergency app with a dr as soon as I get enough info. Then il sit there like some fidgety junkie demanding my drugs lol.

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 23:40

Ah well you're doing amazingly well carrying on.. proper trooper.

Don't be too hard on yourself though and if you get to a ppint where you feel.you can't do it anymore or just want a chat with someone who was in a similar ish position and stopped then give me a shout!! Are you 40 plus weeks pregnant though did I read ??! Or was that how far yoi were along when first arrived?!

Ah mothers in law... mine asked me if I had tried ginger the other day. 18 weeks into HG round 2..... love her

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 00:06

Snapjack, saw this and thought of you.....

Mustang27 · 12/05/2017 00:06

Oh god ginger, yeah my Mil is obsessed with it too. I never get a craving pregnant but feck me my aversions are strong and ginger is up there with coffee and milk!!

No im only 8 +5 Sad sickness started about 4 days after testing and she helpfully suggested it was all in my head as I knew I was pregnant not the fact that the hormones were getting higher lol. Oh god I could moan about the stuff ppl say that is just downright stupid and insensitive all day long.

Ooo like how are you feeling? You look a bit better, wtaf so burst capillaries in your cheeks is a healthy look yeah Hmm.

I know and I do hope to have stopped before bump makes an appearance as I don't think tandem feeding is going to be fun. I'm sure he would cope just have no idea how to even start as I just hoped he would phase it out himself lol. I'm superiorly lazy.

Oklahoma · 12/05/2017 07:42

Quick dive on will post properly later.

Mustang Holly was very unlucky with her reaction to Zofran / Ondansetron (they're the same). Most people take lactulose or another stool softener with it and are fine most of the time. It really is by far the best antiemetic around so I highly recommend trying it. Please don't be put off by Holly's awful experience.

Hollyhop17 · 12/05/2017 08:11

Hi all, sorry for the silence from me for the last couple of days. Been sick again so feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Sorry to those with toddlers who are ill. You are already troopers for going through this again, so I cant imagine how hard it is to deal with a poorly child on top of everything else. I really hope your LOs get better soon.

Mustang, yes Zolfran (sp) is the American name for ondansetron. Like others have said, my reaction was very severe, the doctors said they hadnt seen something lile that before. I dont think it helps that I was just given ondansetron without anything else to help relieve the situation. Finally, I left it too long to get help. 7 days without going is far too long and I should have sought help much sooner. It was working for me otherwise, so I wouldnt be put off by my horrific experience. I am bsck to being sick again, so I would recommend you try it, I think it has helped most ladies on here.

Waves to everyone else, hope today is a good day. Sorry for the new ones who have had to join us, feels like there are a lot more of us lately Sad

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 12/05/2017 08:18

Good morning everyone,

Sorry for being quiet this week, been getting everything ready for the babies eviction day!

It's finally here! On my way to hospital now for induction thank goodness. Had a spectacular vomit this morning post breakfast, I think HG just wants a final moment of glory before it too is evicted from my life!

I hope you all have good days... I'll keep you posted on my journey to the castle. Xx

OnNaturesCourse · 12/05/2017 08:33

Ahhh good luck!! ✨

Hollyhop17 · 12/05/2017 08:38

Oh so exciting I Am Serious!! Wishing you all the luck for a safe, speedy birth, you certainly deserve it!

DeadDoorpost · 12/05/2017 09:00

So I finally caved and spoke to my Dr again and he's prescribed me another tablet beginning with M and ondansetron as well just in case. If these don't work he s going to have to admit me into hospital.

I had my 12 week scan yesterday as well, And have never been more sick. I didn't bother counting but the friend who came with me said I'd been sick 12 times in the space of 4.5 hours. Threw up 2 times before even meeting her and 3 times last night as well. New record for me.

Scan was hilarious as baby didn't want to move at all until I had to do some jumps to get it to move. Right little strop he had afterwards. Friend was wetting herself.

Husband was happy with the scan photo. It brought him out of a bad mood.

But as for the sickness today... 2 times so far and more on the way until I get those tablets. Then I'm going to be sleeping the rest of it.

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 09:26

Morning everyone

Holly, sorry you're being sick again. Still that's a few more days down as we shuffle closer to the castle.

Glad you had a good scan Door but how awful that you're still throwing up that much.

Serious, I'm very excited for you! Hope all goes smoothly and we'll see you on the other side as you emerge HG free and with a beautiful baby Smile

I'm feeling sorry for myself today. I know I shouldn't be, as things seem to be looking up, but I think I've had a whack of hormones. I think I'm hitting at 20 week turn around, I actually haven't been sick since last Friday and cut down to 1 odansetron over the last two days. Obviously very happy about that. Went out last night to the Royal Albert Hall and saw one of their movies in concert which was brilliant. It finished late and by the time we got the tube home, we were starving. Only place open was McDonalds so went in and got a milkshake.

Stupid move as I got in gone midnight and realised I can't take the bisacodyl within one hour of dairy!!! So when I woke up at 2.30am, I took the pill. I then woke up at 5an with awful stomach ache and I still have it now. I don't know why my stomach hurts. I expected gut cramps by not this. Still waiting to see if it worths, but obviously took it very late.

After waking up sore, went back to sleep and had the most horrible vivid dreams. I dreamt about my manager being horrible about my sickness, then an even worse dream about my pregnant SIL starting bleeding Sad I had to text her this morning to see if she was ok. Woke up feeling really miserable and shaken. Just want to hide in bed and not face the world today but I have work Sad

Barmaid101 · 12/05/2017 09:36

Thank you Lucinda! Getting all the staples with the weekly shop this weekend! Bring on the quavers!

Just been off the phone with the dr and they are willing to prescribe me the cyclizine for now as a pre-emptive and then if needed she said to call back and she will do me a script for the ondansetron!

Feeling positive this time as I'm not going into the unknown and I can't just go to bed for a month like I did last time!

Hang in there ladies, it's all so worth it when you have your baby in your arms the memories of the toilet bowl disappear pretty quickly! I always said never again and here I am!

Good luck Iamserious!

HaichM · 12/05/2017 09:43

I too am having a crappy morning though thankfully still sickness free. Was so nauseous this morning I started retching in the bathroom when I went for a shower-not done that in some time- and have had a full on vertigo episode as I call them as I arrived at work: very dizzy, as in headspinning while sat down; lightheadness so bad I wasn't sure I wasn't going to fall over; headache and that dizzy sensation behind my eyes plus some nausea too. I am so tired as well and have a runny nose, which won't be helping the situation. Don't think I'm going to be getting much work done today...

Anyone feeling sorry for themselves should stop feeling guilty about it - it is normal, understandable and Ok.

Holly: sorry you're back to being sick and I agree, there seems to be lots of us at the moment.

Hi to all the newcomers, sorry you've had to join us.

Door: that image cheered me up. I had the opposite problem with a baby who wouldn't stop moving. Sorry you were so sick though and hope the new tablets help.

Serious: congrats and good luck! Looking forward to hearing good news soon hopefully.

Sorry if I've missed anyone else

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 12/05/2017 09:45

Thank you for the good luck messages 😃 Just been hooked up to the monitors. Hopefully we'll get started soon.

Sorry to hear of bad days for Holly, Lemon and Door. Hoping things are better for you today.

As an aside I have just been given these by my midwife..... I wonder if the sight of biscuits will always make me so angry? ....

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 09:48

Serious 😂😂😂😂😂 That just cheered me up!!! Don't get ginger rage on your poor midwife, you might need her later!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 12/05/2017 10:20

I held the rage inside Lemon.... the midwife has access to the gold drugs we need her on side. 😃

First gel given, now the long wait. Feeling sick, blurghh. Get this baby out!!! Xx

SnapJack68 · 12/05/2017 10:20

Mustang ah wow ok sp a little bit longer to go then! It's so hard with a toddler too. My one used to run and fetch me water and rub my back when I was being sick first thing... thEn he got fed up and was shouting.. no more sick now mummy. . Downstairs dinosaurs and toast please!!!

And your MIL s comments haha.. mine is the same. .. " ah so are you cmimg ti visit us on our haven holiday (2.5 hour journey and can only visit for the day) " me... um. No sorry I don't think so...I am still quite ill and probably not up to it but thank you. " oh.. well.you sound fine and you're on medication .. it can't still be bad "😂

Lemon drop haha love that pgoto.. may frame it and take it for my desk when I go back to work or make it into a baseball cap for wrong next time I go to visit family.

Hello to everyone else.. I am new so just catching up with your posts but sorry to hear so.many if you are having a hard time and hope you have a good day.

I am 18 plus 3 and had HG with my 1st little bout who is now almost 3 and with this one too from 7 weeks.

Serious hahaha at that ginger biscuit!!!!! I am so impressed you didn't scream and crumble it to dust in your bare hands and fling it around the ward! Good luck today.

I think I have a bad case of the ginger rage haha. I always just smile nicely though and say "ah yes i have tried but they're not so nice to vomit back up.. especially when they come out your nose"

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 12/05/2017 10:31

Snap it was tempting to crush it into tiny pieces.... my husband selflessly has taken care of them being the human dustbin that he is! X

Lemondrop09 · 12/05/2017 11:13

Aaaaaaaand evacuation complete 😫 I swear constipation and giving birth must have a lot in common...

I'm also sure Serious is going to tell me I'm very wrong about that in a few hours!

Mustang27 · 12/05/2017 11:15

Aww snap our wee boys are very similar, mines rubs my back and cuddles me then shouts splash as it hits the toilet bowl. Funny wee things.

Hmm gotta love mils lol.

Oooo exciting serious good luck & glad your husband did his civic duty and polished off those nasty biccies.

I'm gutted everyone is struggling so much again and yeah mcds milkshakes always seem like a good idea until they are not Sad poor thing hope your stomach pains subside soon

Mustang27 · 12/05/2017 11:24

Pippa I spoke to Wendy about the drugs I honestly could kiss you. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction xx
