I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Aww man!! 5+2 and I've vommed breakfast. Any idea when is appropriate to call GP?

mrsb87 · 11/05/2017 07:51

Been thinking it must have been about this last time, as olive remember having an early scan about 6wks while having fluids!

Oklahoma · 11/05/2017 07:54

I would call the GP now and get straight on the good drugs. Don't let them start you off on cyclizine and see how you go

Oklahoma · 11/05/2017 07:56

Starting drugs early has helped a lot of second timers stay out of hospital and stop things from spiralling out of control

pippanippa · 11/05/2017 08:07

Totally agree with Oklahoma, I started being sick on a Saturday and by Tuesday had started the meds. It has definitely made a huge difference, definitely best to stop it in its tracks pre-emptively!

HaichM · 11/05/2017 08:07

Oh no mustang! Hope he gets better soon and that your sickness calms down too

mrsb87 · 11/05/2017 08:20

Thanks oklahoma and pippa, I've called them and asked for a phone appointment. That very familiar dizzy feeling seems to be looming this morning.

flossyfloss · 11/05/2017 08:21

Is cyclizine no good? I can't remember from last time? I have the gp appointment today - should I ask for something else if he offers me cyclizine?

Lemondrop09 · 11/05/2017 08:26

Cyclizine works for some people and not others. I did nothing for me personally but some people use it all the way through. Your GP will likely want to start you on cyclizine unless you know it didn't help last time.

Agree with the above, start medication as early as possible

mrsb87 · 11/05/2017 08:26

It didn't work for me in my first pregnancy, Ondansatron was the only way to go for me...after trying everything else and 3 hospital admissions! Wtf...why am I doing this again?!

Mustang27 · 11/05/2017 08:32

Thanks Haichm he seems a wee bit brighter at the mo hoping it's just a wee 24hr bug

Oh mrsb I know how you feel there, I ask myself repeatedly why I'm doing this again too. My gp could see my notes so he was quite good and said he would try me on stemetil as that helped a little the last time. It wasn't great though I just grinned and bared it a lot at home last time. I'm going back in today to see what they can do. It unfortunately my wee one is still bfeeding so I'm not holding out much hope Sad

mrsb87 · 11/05/2017 09:34

Oh mustang I really feel for you. Can't imagine breastfeeding through the sickness. Huge mummy points to you for pushing through xxx
Just heard from the GP, he's happy to give me Ondansatron. So grateful for good GP'S.

LucindaE · 11/05/2017 09:47

flossyfloss I hope you get effective meds.
mrsb87 I am so glad the dr is going to give you the meds that helped last time. As you are a veteran, you need no suggestions about pre emptive meds to ward of constipation.
HaichM I am glad that they are investigating all possibilities.
Mustang27 I'm glad baby is a bit better. Goodness, how do you avoid becoming dehydrated? I was one of the half of one percent or whatever it is of sufferers who suffered the symptoms after birth for a while, and I found it a nightmare trying to breast feed while unable to retain liquids.
I think you all were entirely right to go for it again - giving your LO's a sibling is the best thing you can possibly do for them. There speaks one who for various reasons didn't go for it again!
Great advice from everyone. I hope everyone is avoiding admissions and OK-ish.

My delightful 2yo has a stomach bug. I feel queasy. This is not fair to someone with HG!

Barmaid101 · 11/05/2017 12:30

Hi, just dropping in to see if I can be pointed in the right direction. I got a bfp yesterday and this will be my second.
With my first I had HG and was in and out of hospital some day admissions and some overnight ones in the first 12 weeks. By 12 weeks they worked out a combination of two tablets I could take which would significantly reduce how often I was sick which I had to take up to when I gave birth. Did try reducing them but it just made me worse.
I am hopefully seeing the dr tomorrow as I do not know if I am 4 or 5 weeks. It started at 6 weeks last time so I want to get a plan in place.
Another friend of mine who is looking into ttc number 2 has told me that they now reccommend pre-emptively taking the medication but not many GPs know of this. Does anyone know where I can find ou the information.
Feeling very nervous at the moment. Especially going through it again with a 2.5yr old!
Thanks

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 14:39

Has anyone had bad reactions to cyclizine?

I am 18 week +2 and been on cyclizine for 30 days for HG. seemed to work well as soon as I took it and has kept the vomiting down to 2 to 3 times a day and keeps nausea at bay. I have been taking it 3 times a day as as soon as I ease off it I feel sick again.

2.5 weeks ago I came down with a cold. Am still struggling with it. Really bad cough which is so bad my back hurts and I feel so weak and achey all.over.. almost like fever. Need ti check temp but thermometer out of battery! Am so breathless and wheezing and last 2 days i have been bedbound . My toddler in nursery mornings only on Thurs and Fri as these used ti be my days off work. I uually walk to where DH leaves car (about 25min) and then drive to pick up toddler. I had to stop as felt like I was goinf to pass out. DH came and got me and took me home...

Started looking again at leaflet I get with the cyclizine as had just picked up a new prescription and notice a lot of these symptoms above are in the side effects sections and to stop taking them as may be an allergic reaction to them.

Hadn't even thought of this. Can't get a drs appointment as is impossible here. Can't even go to out of hours as is a norovirus break our at the hospital Whixh would definitely finish me off

On the on call dr list but not heard aby thing from them.

Am ok now I am back in bed doing nothing but am so worried. Not taken Any meds since 7am and won't now until I manage to see a dr. So nausea coming back yippee. I don't know what I should do other than stay flat and hope for the best?

DH has toddler and will have to call in to work for a day of dependent leave if I am still like this as I can hardly move I am so weak

Is there anyone else I could call? The marmite waRd? 111 will just put me to the hospital out of hours but the Dr when I saw her last week and the pharmacist I picked up meds from Yday said to avoid it at all costs as norovirus would be so bad for me to get

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 14:41

The marmite ward 😂

LucindaE · 11/05/2017 19:48

SnapJack68 Welcome. That sounds awful. Can NHS direct, or whatever they're called now, advise? You could ring 024 7638 2020 for advice, but they would have to ring back. They will and give great advice. I didn't know those were side effects. I'm not medically qualified, but I wonder if it is a nasty virus that has led to a bronchial infection or something?
Barmaid Welcome. As you are a veteran, I don't need to say my usual stuff about have you got kesostix, and suggesting drinks like flat full sugar fizzy coke and the juice of tinned peaches. Pre-emptive meds are generally more accepted by GP's these days for previous sufferers. It might be a good idea to ring that Pregnancy Sickness Support number too, 024 7638 2020 for advice. They will have to ring you back but give really good advice about obtaining meds.
peaceloveandbiscuits Oh dear; that is certainly not fair....

Peace are our toddlers hanging out??? I feel your pain.

LucindaE · 11/05/2017 19:50

SnapJack68 and Barmadi101 I meant to add, there's great support on this thread, but it's very quiet today.

Mustang I just wanted to let you know of a great resource about breastfeeding & hyperemesis. I can't add a link for some reason, but if you google 'breastfeeding network' you will find it I'm sure. There is a helpful factsheet on breastfeeding and hyperemesis which gives brilliant information on which drugs are safe to take whilst breastfeeding and which are not. It is written by Wendy, a pharmacist, who you can also contact by email with questions - she answers very quickly and is able to give much more informed & realistic advice than many doctors / high street pharmacists who are often over-cautious, as this is her area of expertise.

Unfortunately the medicine I'm taking isn't compatible long-term so I decided to wean my daughter. She's 18 months so it had to happen sooner or later, but still a difficult choice to make, and I still feel guilty! Anyway, I hope the information is useful to you.

Ugh, sorry to hear about all the sickness bugs peace and mustang, definitely the last thing you need!

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 20:13

Lucinda thank you.. you were absolutely right with the secondary infection theory! Am so relieved. I had ruled out being ill as u was given the all clear last week but I finally heard back from on call dr and they go me seen straight away and i have a severe chest infection in both lungs right to the lower tracts... she thought it was very funny about my side effects of medication worry haha.. she said I was that I'll that there wasn't many drugs out there whose serious side effects I don't have right now!!

On antibiotics and that alone is such a relief. She was really reassuring and was no surprised I had been asleep non stop pretty much for 3 days

Thank you for your reassurance. Glad I can stop panic googling cyclizine side effects now!

pippanippa · 11/05/2017 20:14

snap, oh no, that's no fun - wishing you a speedy recovery!

flossyfloss · 11/05/2017 20:48

Glad you got it sorted hope you start to feel better Flowers

My gp appt was ok - he gave me stemetil and I have ordered some cyclizine from an online pharmacy so I have both "in stock" now! I have my booking in appt in 3 weeks time

Mustang27 · 11/05/2017 22:17

Thank you Pippa that was so lovely of you to share that. You guys cheer me up so much with all your help.

Question, is Zofran just another name for the drug that made Holly really unwell? Iv been googling like crazy tonight as the midwife said about the odanestron (think that's what it's called) as I just sat and cried on her for 15 minutes but she was concerned about the breastfeeding part. I'm down to lucozade orange and little nibbles of mini gf pecan pies from Sainsbury's as they are sweet but relatively plain I just don't think I can tolerate this much longer without going full on crazy Sad. I had found some stuff that suggests ppl have taken this whilst preggo and bf with no major side effects other than baby getting a little constipated but again this can be treated preemptively.

I know nothing is a magic cure but there has to be something better out there!!!

Tried to get the Ketostix today in pharmacist today but they didn't stock them but she had suffered in pregnancy and said you can get them on amazon. Am I right it's just the ketone stops I'm after. Sorry HG/baby mush brain is in full swing today. Poorly toddler does not help matters and my Mil went home as she is too exhausted and told me my son is wild Confused he isn't he is actually pretty well behaved gentle loving wee guy he is just energetic and on the go from morning until night, he isn't distracted by tv or anything for long so you never really get a chance to finish a brew or potter about as he just runs everywhere. Maybe I'm clouded as he is mine but as I said my partner has crippling social anxiety and always has so was never adventurous so maybe that's just a shock to the system.

Sorry for the long post ladies just needed to vent Blush
