Pregnancy After Infertility IV

Blueroses99 · 10/02/2017 06:40

Pregnancy after infertility or fertility treatment can be a scary place, from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding to other random symptoms.

We are a supportive group of women across all stages of pregnancy who are used to being on the wrong side of the odds and still can't believe it's really happening.

Hi folks

How's everyone doing?

blackcherries · 24/08/2017 22:07

Hi all. I'm nearly 17 weeks. Had an appointment to talk about birth options as I had a 3rd degree tear with my first birth. I'm not in a position to decide yet but the doctor did slightly take me aback by telling me I get two more growth scans (after the 20 wk one) due to increased risks of IVF babies not developing properly (I think he meant they tended to measure small - and I know with ICSI there is a slight risk of other abnormalities like hare lip). I'm not too sure how correct this is as I take quite a lot of things with a pinch of salt, but it's playing on my mind a bit. The IVF clinic said there should be no difference than with a 'normal' pregnancy. I have a lot of irrational fears about this pregnancy and this isn't helping!

Also bit miffed I was supposed to see the consultant about birth choices and 'just' had a doctor who relayed it to the consultant while I sat in another room waiting for ages.

Custardandcream · 25/08/2017 08:56

Bean I'm so sorry

Congratulations Trixie!

Blondes I remember you having your little girl, can't believe she's nearly 5 months!

Blackcherries try not to worry too much about the extra scans, it seems that certain NHS trusts do extra scans for IVF pregnancies. I had scans at 28 & 34 weeks and tried to just see it as extra reassurance

Ash75454 · 26/08/2017 07:24

blackcherries try not to worry (easier said than done I know!)
I've been told same as you, I'm just like any other pregnant person now and where I am won't be offered any additional scans. It's all just certain trusts rules I'd say.

I'm also saying I'm just like any other pregnant woman but if I read one more thing that says 'yeah second trimester now you'll be feeling great' I'll blow, have felt worse last few weeks than the first 12. Serious bloating all the time! My bump looks about 6 months by evening time and I'd say it's the stuffed sinuses giving my daily headaches. Joy! Planning a little holiday in a few weeks hoping a chill out might help.

Sara237 · 31/08/2017 09:04

Just to say I had my baby last Thur! Birth a saga but he is amazing. Had to have csection due to complications with him but all fine now. This time last year I was having my first cycle of ivf which failed. I was so devastated but then cycle gave me him. Still anxious as hell bit never been happier. This thread eped a lot. Best wishes to everyone x

Sara237 · 31/08/2017 09:06

Oh god that's how tired I am!
2nd cycle gave me him
This thread helped a lot
Sleep deprivation is shocking..😁

Ash75454 · 31/08/2017 21:36

Lisa1705M
I have one question for you: why is the clinic you're clearly here to advertise so unethical that you think troll posts pretending to be someone with infertility is a way of recruiting new patients? Is the clinic really that bad that it is the only way you can advertise to potential patients?

Ok so that's 2 questions. And now one piece of advice for you: Fuck off and don't ever come back here (or to the infertility, surrogacy or donor conception threads)

Blueroses99 · 31/10/2017 19:02

Just checking in... how's everyone getting on? (Where did everyone go?!)

OP posts:
maplebaby · 01/11/2017 13:11

Hey blue I still lurk from time to time! But I had a couple of scares at 13 and 14 weeks and just been keeping my head down! All is currently well and I’m sitting waiting for my 25 week midwife appointment now (am 25+6 today).

How are you?? Hope everyone else is ok too!

star1980 · 01/11/2017 16:18

Hey, I still lurk too. Also had a tough time at 14/15 weeks but all is well. Am 28 weeks and started antenatal classes that's night, it's all starting to feel real. Struggling to find a comfortable sleeping position but shouldn't complain.

My friend is doing her first ivf round and I feel like I should know exactly how to be given what we went through, but I can't help feeling that support from someone who beat this wretched infertility thing is a bit galling so I'm keeping quiet. For example, it's been 2 weeks since her transfer and I haven't heard anything - I'm thinking about her every day but don't know whether to check in or not.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Maple we're so close together, when's your due date? I'm due 20 Jan, finishing work at Christmas!

Blueroses99 · 01/11/2017 18:11

Maple, Star good to hear you're both doing well but sorry that you've had scares along the way. Christmas doesn't feel all that far away now!

I had a similar thing with a friend doing IVF, I did let her know I was there if she wanted to chat but left it there. Privately I figured that she'd have told me if it hadn't worked so just waited until she felt ready to tell me that she was pregnant.

Hello, please can i join, i know this thread has gone a bit quiet but i recognise quite a few names from cycle buddies threads and i don't feel i fit on other threads!

I've name changed i used to be Hope2409!

star, maple, blueroses hello its lovely to keep up with your progress and read how your doing!

blueroses how is little Aviana getting on now, its lovely to read your blog from time to time and see how your both doing.

I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant following our third try, a FET. Had a bumpy start with a few bleeds but at our scan today everything looks good and we got to see bubs clearly, saw the heart beating and saw them moving about too which was amazing, so keeping everything crossed!

star1980 · 01/11/2017 22:50

Hello Coco, welcome and congratulations! I remember you from the 18+ thread, very happy to see you here Smile It's hard getting through the scares - I had bleeds at 5, 9 and 13 weeks (phantom periods?) and then excruciating fibroid pain at 15 weeks but all was well. I finally stopped checking the miscarriage odds daily maybe around 16 weeks! So glad you can start to relax now...

The threads really quiet at the moment, but keep us posted. Not long til your 12 wk scan. Exciting!

Blue, I think your approach is sensible - she knows I'm here if she wants to talk and hopefully no news is good news. Hope all's well with you Smile

star1980 · 01/11/2017 22:50

Hang on coco, are you having twins??!

Blueroses99 · 01/11/2017 22:52

Hope! Sorry Coco, welcome, lovely to hear from you, and keeping everything crossed for you too.

Aviana and I are doing well thank you. She is 6.5 months (28 weeks), but 12 weeks corrected. Prematurity has its own challenges but she is a delight.

maplebaby · 03/11/2017 07:30

Lovely to hear from you star! Was your bleed from the fibroids? What has happened to them now do you know? I’m due 8th February and my last day at work is 26th jan! Christmas isn’t too far away now! Have you been buying much?
Regarding your friend I would just wait for her to tell you. I think if it’s good news she may be waiting until 12 weeks or if not she will be feeling absolutely heartbroken and will tell you when she is ready. Really hope it’s good news for her!

Blue I must have totally missed that you were writing a blog! Is there a link Smile

Hope / coco so nice to hear from you! And congratulations on your twins! When is your 12 week scan?

Coco24 · 04/11/2017 17:07

No no, no twins here there is definately just the one baby in there they have checked!!!
I just looked back at my post and realised i wrote them 😂 sorry for the confusion ladies!!!

My 12 week scan is on the 20th Nov, i hope the time passes quickly as i can't wait to reach that milestone. I know it won't stop me worrying but it will be nice to get there!

star sorry to hear you had a rough start, 28 weeks already, i hope you have managed to relax a bit now, and find a comfortable sleeping position!!

blue so glad to hear that you and Aviana are doing well. I'm sure your getting excited about your first Christmas with her!

maple another one with not too long to go, hope your doing well. The time has gone so quick, i remember you getting your bfp!

star and maple have either of you found out what you are having?

maplebaby · 06/11/2017 07:42

Feels like ages away probably I’m sure but 20th will come round in no time! Haha I did wonder when you said them!

We are having a little boy Smile will you finding out?

Coco24 · 08/11/2017 21:04

Congratulations on your little boy maple so exciting!

Yes we are going to find out, my DH doesnt mind if we find out or not but i really want to know!
Part of me thinks the suprise of not knowing must be great but after waiting so long to get to this point i just want to know!!!

star1980 · 12/11/2017 09:22

Hello ladies, we are having a girl Smile We were finding it so hard to think of names we liked and it helps knowing.

They never found out what the bleeds were from but it's possible it was the fibroids. My consultant said that although it's annoying it's probably best they couldn't see an obvious reason.

Maple we haven't bought anything yet really but got a big haul from some friends last week. We were in John Lewis yesterday and got a bit overwhelmed by the pram and car seat options so left! Hoping to get quite a bit through hand me downs from friends and family and start shopping in December.

Anyone experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions? I'm having quite intense episodes where my stomach tenses up into a weird shape. I was mildly worried it was early labour as they were quite painful at first. Now I'm putting them down to braxton hicks and will ask my midwife next week at my 31w appt.

Hobbes39 · 14/11/2017 16:37

Hi - I am slightly scared to tempt fate by joining you on here, but wanted to ask your opinions on WWYD. I am finally pregnant (for now) just... on our 3rd fresh cycle. I’m only just 4+1 and so it’s still v v early obvs, so feeling v nervous about miscarriage at the moment. Hi to coco and to Blueroses too!
Anyway, I’ve always thought that if we did get there I’d like to get a NIPT test due to my age (40 now 😱) as it turns out f I get there the right time for the test is 10 weeks - which would be xmas day...Obviously there are no clinics offering that! So looks like new year - would you still get the NIPT test even if it falls after when you’d have the standard NHS one. I am reluctant to get the NHS test as I know people my age often get worryingly high chances for problems purely down to their age, so wanted to just have the NIPT and know much more for sure, but now not sure about it due to it being later... if that makes sense? Anyway, this could all be irrelevant as a lot can happen in the next 2 months, but just trying to think about it... thanks! X

Blueroses99 · 14/11/2017 17:27

Hobbes! Congratulations. Great to see you here. I had my NIPT at the same time as standard 12 week nuchal tests (paid privately via NHS) and the results were much more accurate e.g. nuchal results said 1 in 1250 chance of DS, NIPT result said 1 in 50,000. 10 weeks is the earliest that you can have NIPT but there may not be enough fetal DNA at that time so I believe that there is a chance it needs to be repeated if done too early. If I was you, I’d just book it for the new year. I was desperate to find out the sex so I asked for that to be included too.

Maple how lovely you’re having a boy. Yes I have blog... It’s over here blueroses99.wordpress.com

Star yaysnother girl! I remember that feeling of being overwhelmed in John Lewis! Don’t worry about getting too much stuff beforehand. I bought nothing before Aviana arrived but the stuff I ended up buying was quite different to what I had picked out beforehand eg she had reflux so I needed a tilty crib but the Snuzpod I wanted didn’t recline and I bought the Next2Me which does.

Coco hope the scanxiety is under control, not much longer to 20th!
